I probably wouldn't be down for Zelda randomizer specifically, but this has reminded me that I need to get my new machine set up to record jank if I ever want to do one of these again.

I couldn't help it, I was coming up with visual and audio ideas left and right.
For example, for the bingo cards, making use of as icons for individual people. |

BTW, the new beta build of the randomizer added a BUNCH more stuff. Can't wait for this thing to go public |

OMAHGERD NECRO THREAD REVIVAL!
What? Nari is bringing back Racing Time? Yup!
I currently have 3 races from a long long time ago I am editing together. Super Mario All-Stars (Featuring Dadaph, Red Silvers, ShadowWarriorLuke and Myself) Mega Man NES Pentathlon -only the 1st heat survived- (Featuring Dadaph, Kefkafloyd, Torgo, ShadowWarriorLuke, and Jasubakuhasu) Panic Restaurant (Featuring BEAT, Red Silvers, ShadowWarriorLuke, and Myself) If you tune into my twitch channel tomorrow afternoon I will be streaming the editing of the Super Mario All-Stars Race! (Part Two @ twitch.tv/narishm) I plan on making the editing of the races a weekly twitch stream, and the races (at least from my end, a monthly release, on the last Sunday of the Month). That being said, I have a release schedule for the first four races. Super Mario All-Stars - Sunday, January 24th, 2016. Mega Man NES Pentathlon - Sunday, February 21st, 2016. Panic Restaurant - Sunday, March 20th, 2016. SNES Pentathlon - Sunday, April 24th, 2016. I am currently planning out the SNES Pentathlon right now, still looking for suckers challengers to participate. ^_^ The recording date hasn't been set yet but I am looking at late February for it, with a similar date every month, at least one month ahead of when the race is due to come out. I want to do this monthly, and I am not exactly lacking in ideas, here are a few: NES Pentathlon 3 (I have ideas for this) SNES Pentathlon 2 and 3 (I have about 18 or so challenge ideas from the SNES XD) The Legend of Zelda (Original) Zelda Randomzer and Zelda Randomizer Bingo The Adventure of Link A Link to the Past Super Metroid Zero Mission Metroid Fusion Battletoads Portal Metroid (Justin Bailey Race) Super Mario 64 Axiom Verge Shovel Knight Super Mario Maker (featuring Talking Time levels judged by an impartial person to make sure no kaizo ones get in) Race for the Wool The Binding of Issac Ducktales Remastered I am open to new ideas and to editing races done by others, but the editing is going to be done via livestream on my timetable (which isn't years anymore). Part of the reason I am editing them live is to make sure I do it on time. XD I am also laying ground rules for racing this time.
So, with all of that stuff out of the way... Anyone excited for new races? (Also, I have need to summon Red Silvers, in order to re-acquire the keys to the Let's Racing Time channel.) |

Wait, wasn't I in that Panic Restaurant run too, or was there more of them?
Oh well, I'm down for a few of these, including Battletoads. You know where to find me |

Anyway, I'd like to do this? I think??? I've moved since I've done this last and I'm not longer in an area with butt-internet, though I could really only do weekends. Weeknights would be super difficult. And I don't have any way to record Wii-U games so no Mario Maker for me, and I'd need to buy Ducktales Remastered on Steam if I went in on that one, and ehhh. But any of the emulated ones should be fine, I'm partial to the Pentathalons, they were fun. |

Awesome, Brickroad has also tweeted that he will host a race if I get one posted this month. Which is totally happening.
I will be editing and posting a race every month, starting in February I plan to host one a month too. Anyone else is free (and encouraged) to host additional races. If you want to host a race but can't edit it, just make sure to follow the rules I laid down for recording, and you can put the race into my queue to edit. I'll just drop it into my next free slot for a race. (That would usually be 2-3 months down the line.) |

It's a little early, as the video is probably still processing, and I missed the release date by a few days due to the snow and having to work every day last week cause everyone else called in.
But here it is! Only 2 years late. You should probably not listen to us when we talk about a second heat and whatnot, while there may indeed be a second heat of this race (perhaps with more competent Mario peeps) I don't currently have one planned. And I don't really feel that way about Mario 1, I was really salty. |

Damn, I actually forgot how salty this actually got.
If I regret something (besides not talking louder and clearer), it must be not standing up for the truly wonderful game that is SMB. Guess there is random elements to how Hammer Bros move, but it's not that difficult to adapt to every situation as you go. See three Goombas? Try not to land in the middle of them because some RNG makes your pixel perfect jump from the previous run miss this time... all I'm saying That being said... SMB is kinda unforgiving... one single mistake can lead to a chain of mishaps... there is a reason keeping that Fire Flower was so important to me, even if I have learned to deal with 8-4 wihtout powerups after this race was recorded. I should be the sugar where everyone else are salty. I never get really salty about games. Except Peace Walker and modern Sonics, but guess I won't race those. Edit: forgot to mention how nicely this race looks, wonderfully edited. I was watching half the time, so I know how much job that went into it. Last edited by Dadaph; 01-28-2016 at 10:17 AM. Reason: btw, looks nice |

Yeah, I don't really feel that way about SMB1. The All-Stars version is worse than the NES version though. They changed the physics of jumping and moving but not the stages to reflect those changes, that's what was throwing me off.
I'm glad you like the editing, but apart from the Mouse Cursor on my screen, there are 3 editing mistakes I've noticed (but it took a day to render and I didn't want to re-render it XD) |

Yeah, I agree with that. I mentioned I practiced the original NES one, and this was different. One thing I can think of right now is how you can just jump the Piranha Plants in 8-1 (as well as 4-1) on NES and just make it. On All-Stars, you crash with their hitbox and die.

1) It wasn't until I was an adult that I ever saw someone give Boom-Boom a chance to breathe. You jump on him as soon as he gets up and he'll never pose any threat whatsoever.
2) All four games might have been a bit ambitious (especially since Dadaph won halfway through and no one else quite managed to finish), but at least you had the good sense to exclude Lost Levels. 3) THAT SAID, a race where you have an hour to get as far as you can in Lost Levels would be a good time. |

I'd like to ask that you post spoilers of what the challenges were along with each of these races. I'm usually not looking at the screen when they pop up and I generally don't know the games well enough to be able to figure out what they are.
Feel free to hold off on that if there's more people waiting to run heats. |

We typically don't upload a pentathlon until all the heats are finished, but I put the info of what the challenges are in the video, so that people can see what they are. I'm not going to be making extra explain everything posts though because you can't be bothered to actually watch the video, you can back it up to see what you missed.

IT'S FINALLY HERE
oh god. I've been anxiously waiting for this trainwreck. Sadly my video footage didn't make it, but. Remember the RNG in mario bros? Multiply that by a zillion and that's my experience with the crystals in Crystal Man. Fighting him was a joke, but GETTING to him... that was awful. |

Yes, Unfortunately the second heat of the MM Pentathlon didn't make it; but you can all see what they had to endure!
Also Brick did a thing: I must say, I like the outcome of this one. ^_^ |

Arise, thread!
I've been playing with layouts and setups to resurrect Let's Racing Time in streaming form on Twitch. Would people still be interested in that sort of thing? The basic setup it one dude "hosts" the stream by capturing feeds from the racers' feed and a discord chat. Instead of futzing with editing on the back end and all the headaches that brings, all you need is OBS and a decent mic. |

I'd be in for the right race, and I'd definitely watch the wrong ones. This was always a good time, and your setup sounds way better.

By the way, I'd love to see more races in the vein of that wildcard one where you had to complete small tasks like killing Quick Man rather than finishing entire (sometimes multiple) games.
Besides that, it'd be great to see FF4FE get this treatment. |

Like Mogri, I would be happy to play if it's something in my wheelhouse (especially if the game isn't too long).
Ah, the Pentathlons. Those were super fun, although both times the authors (Brickroad and me) underestimated how long it would take some people to complete the assigned challenges. I've been thinking of designing another one off and on for the last few years, but it's hard to come up with original challenges. My favorites are the more open ones that you can achieve via different paths - Mega Man games tend to be good for those, but I can't think of many others. |

I'd be happy to brainstorm with you if you like.
You can turn anything into multiple paths by giving the runners a "choose one" sort of objective (e.g. "get any two pieces of triforce"). Just gotta make it an interesting choice for the runners, either by making tradeoffs between speed and difficulty or by making the best choice hard to guess on the fly. |

I would be more than happy to share the keys to the lrt twitch channel if anyone wants to try to host. I might try to set up a Google doc and whatnot, too.
I can/will host sometime if people want to organize a race to run from 8:30 ish to no later than midnight one night. Maybe a Sunday? Here's the channel Not much there right now, but throw it a follow, won't you? Last edited by McClain; 03-17-2019 at 07:26 PM. |
