Tentatively yes, assuming I remain gainfully employed through tomorrow and can in turn afford internet.

Ok, so now that TT seems to be back up, is the race tonight or next Friday? And if it's tonight, is it still going on? I think I have to give out my Skype info to whoever is running the race.

So my plans got finished earlier than usual, so if Torgo and Jasu want to start earlier, we totally can.

Yeah, count me out. Never got time to test my recording setup with a Genesis emulator, and I've had a pretty balls week, just not in the mood to come in last place in a Sonic race.

Sonic 3 race was a lot of fun and might feature the most hilarious reason to Game Over ever.

In the meantime it looks like Brickroad uploaded a little 'channel advertisement' video, so go check that out!

MAMEhub apparently has netplay. Three player Moonwalker would be amazing...

Looking back over our published races, it looks like I just need to organize one with Jikku, McDohl and Umby and then I will have raced everyone.

(I'm not counting Shadow Warrior Luke because he is not ONE OF US.)

Torgo and I were tossing around the idea of racing Milky Way Wishes in Superstar, and I think it'd be cool to feature people racing the various games within Kirby Superstar.

I'd be down for that.

I think I'd like to get a new style of competition going: timed races. Boot up a game, play for one hour, whoever gets the most _____ in that hour wins.

Two benefits: 1) we'll be able to race games that are otherwise unraceable, and 2) hour-long videos are nicer to watch than 2-and-a-half-hour-long videos.

Some ideas:

Most stars in Mario 64
Highest total score in Yoshi's Island
Most gil in FF6
Most bank in Great Cave Offensive
Lowest floor in Lufia 2's Ancient Cave

Thoughts?

I like it! I'll try to think of other good score attack challenges.

Can I be totally self serving and suggest stars in STTB?

Limiting the time sounds like a great idea, a couple of the pentathlon races finished well past my bed time. As soon as I have a functional computer again, I'll be interested.

I'd be all for some time-limited runs. But I'll be on vacation for the next two weeks and likely won't be racing anything, alas!

I'd like to see a "who can get the most gold in an hour" race of Spelunky. It'd be a little hard to keep track if people died a lot, of course, but has a lot of hilarity potential.

You could just start with clean installs and check the high score at the end of an hour.

I'm totally down for any of these time limited races (and I'd love to throw FFV Ancient Cave into the pile, too, but I know not everyone is as enamored with it as I am).

I'd be down for some Ancient Cave in either FF5 or Lufia 2 flavors. If Lufia 2, I would be silly and contrary and use characters like Lexis and Tia.

It's Maxim, Selan, Guy, Artea, Dekar, Lexis, and Tia, right?

If it's Lufia 2, I would totally need a save file or save state with the AC game mode already unlocked.

FF5 AC would be good to help spread our translation patch, too. I bet lots of folks still don't know about it.

I think we can find some kind of challenge in any game if the time is limited.

Could even do really tough games this way.
I think I already suggested a timed Battletoads race, but that's not the only difficult game on NES. What about Dragon's Lair or Silver Surfer?

It might also be possible to only race parts of a game, like the first stage of Bart vs the Space Mutants. New players WILL struggle, as the stage is structured very linearly, yet the goal(removing certain number of purple objects) is pretty open ended. Yes, the game causes tons of deaths because of clumsy controls and bad gameplay, but it's not too difficult to do, even for new players.

The first area of A Boy and His Blob could also be a fun experiment, limit the time and see who can find the most treasure.

Yeah, both of these games has aged horribly and are terrible to play. The racers will be going through hell in attempting. But I also believe the races might turn out fun to watch, as the goal is not just getting from A to B, but also figuring out how to collect most loot.
