I didn't, (see my edited paragraph). I made it to World 8 after about an hour, when... a thing happened. So as butt as they are I guess that makes me 101 kinds of Butt.
I blame all the SMBX I've been playing for throwing off my SMB1 game, the physics and Mario's momentum kept getting me killed. I'm normally not butt at all, I swear. Also the talking while playing threw me off, I dunno how you LPers do it. |

Same here, and I love that it has kindof become a thing in the youtuber community. Would love to join a game eventually (I see the list has gotten quite long).

Interesting way to go about this: Triathalon!
Like say... Super Mario Bros. Contra and uh... SMS Moonwalker? As soon as one game's done (you'd need an agreement on exactly what counts as "done" for each game) you load up the next. Potential for more turnarounds and upsets than single games. |

Spoony, how do you want to get your video file to me?
|

|

You want it? I mean, since I couldn't hear you guys while you were Skyping I pretty much just said whatever, so there would be a lot of talking over each other if you mix my video in with yours. It'd be like three guys having a conversation with each other while crazy uncle Spoony is talking to himself in the corner.
I was gonna just stick some BGM in the video and upload it like that, but if you actually want it I'll probably try and either upload it to youtube as is, or try one of those storage services mentioned on the last page. Either way it might take a bit since I need to run it through the zune converter to reduce its size and upload it, which might take a bit. If you still want it I'll PM you a link once it's uploaded wherever I upload it. |

Yeah, send me a PM with a link either to the video file or the torrent. I can always mute your audio if it's too distracting.
Although talking over us might not be the worst thing. We talked a lot of really dumb shit. |

Is there an ETA on the video? I'm curious to see it.

Alright, welp, I started uploading the video to Youtube and I'm about to hit the sack. I'll check it when I get up tomorrow and see if it succeeded or failed. If it failed I'll try again (my connection is usually better first thing in the morning when most of the people in the region aren't online so if I have to re-try the upload then hopefully it will succeed).
I'll PM a link once I have one. Whatever this will result in will probably be hilarious one way or another. |

Psst, narcodis!
You have to actually seed the torrent for me to download it. =P (Don't worry about the sound thing, I'll try and figure something out on my end.) |

Dang, I'm having trouble getting good-quality video using CamStudio with my new OS. Does anyone here record in Windows 7 64-bit? If so, can you suggest a codec and settings combination to gives a good framerate? Everything I've tried so far ends up looking like a slideshow.
(I downloaded and installed ffdshow, but it doesn't appear in the codec list in CamStudio's options menu. Might be a 64-bit problem?) |

Here's a race idea: Ducktales!

Whatever we race next, I'm definitely going to practice the game a few times before recording.

Welp, my video uploaded and I passed the link on to Brick, it's in his hands now. Can't wait to see how this nonsense shapes up.
Ya'll better brace yourself for some epically bad SMB1 play though. I really have no other excuse besides 'I'm not used to talking and playing at once', but even that doesn't justify it. It's just the saddest thing. |

If we did SMB3, would there be any goals other than quickest time? Skipping levels ok?
|
#79

I vote no whistles if you do SMB3. Everyone knows how to beat world 1-2-8, but you'd be surprised how many levels most people completely forget about in the middle. That's what would make a race interesting. Maybe put a time limit on that, though.

So basically everyone fucked up in the race.
I recorded at a shitty framerate for some reason, so it looks like Mario is ice skating everywhere. Spoony's internet connection crapped out, and having his audio is too distracting, so we'll have his screen but not his tantalizing man-voice. (Although he does have commentary on what he DID record, maybe he'll make it public.) narcodis recorded his stereo mix, which might cause audio problems. I'll know more once I get hold of his footage. (Check your PMs, bro!) Nodal had never played Mario before, so his footage is basically just failure after hilarious failure. But by gods, it's entertaining to watch. =) Anyone have any idea how I can add an onscreen timer? I don't think Camtasia has a setting anywhere... |
#81
|
|||
|
|||
Well, I meant for example, skipping 1-4 means not playing an optional level... in world 2 you can skip levels... world 4 and 6 have branching paths...
|
#82

|
|||
...Like, any Mario ever?!
|
#83
|
|||
|
|||
Oh yeah, totally. Brick sent me an SMB3 race a little bit ago where some of the players SUCKED, so when one died on the airship it flew behind levels he hadn't beaten. All part of the game!

I'll probably make my video public, but not until after some edits. I'll chop off the first thirty seconds or so since it's the deadest of dead air. I'd also like to add some BGM since there's still a lot of moments where I don't say anything. I'll also probably cut it into 10-15 minute chunks since the original video is over an hour long.
I can add BGM with Windows Live Movie Maker easily enough, but when I tried it last night it changed my video so that it was smaller on the screen and surrounded by a black box (letterboxing, is it? I dunno the term) Anyone know how to make that not happen, or failing that know of another simple video editor that'll let me chop up the original file and add MP3s? |

I might've actually played worse than Nodal, so we'll see how this race ends up.

The maddening thing is, looking back at the STTB2 promo I made up in Movie Maker, it didn't happen at all. So I have NO idea what's going on. |

It miiiight help to convert the video to WMV first before importing it into windows movie maker... but that's a ton of time wasted. :\ |

I recorded it with Hypercam, which might explain the resolution being off since it was a 'drag and select recording area kind of thing. Same thing I recorded the STTB2 promo with, but that was a much larger recording area and it's possible it was closer to a resolution Movie Maker could work with without panicking and going 'MUST FIX RESOLUTION'.
I'll try running the video through the zune editor, maybe that'll help. If not I'll just deal with the smaller black box, it's not a deal breaker, just annoying. |
