Fucking god dammit.
So I tried messing around with other codecs just to see if I liked them better, but none of them recorded as well, so I went back to my original settings and recorded another hour of SMB3, but my fucking video is like twice as fast as my audio now! fjksladfjlsad;jl;ksajflsajflsjaf So not only am I NOT ready for racing, but I just wasted an hour on unusable recording and I have to figure out my setup again. Fuck me. Extra suck: On world six I did the pentathlon challenge TWICE on my first six levels. The trick is to skip level 3. |

Another tip: when you find settings that work, take a screenshot of them and save it in whatever directory you're working with. That way, no matter what you go fucking with, you know you can get back to your happy place.

I think it might be the setting "temporal quality ratio" that defaults to .75 but I turned it up to 1.0. I thought that's the setting I used before, but maybe I just used the default? A shorter test vid I just did seemed to be on target. I'll have to try some more stuff ...

HAHAHA, so I think I figured out the desync problem and will never change my settings again, but then I found a new problem: The sprite flicker on my NES emulator sometimes gets wonky and make me invisible. In particular, a decent un on MM2 crashed and burned at the dragon in Wily 1.
Any tips for reducing flicker on FCEUX? Or maybe a better emulator? I'll upload it for your amusement, though you can see mega man fine on the video, so I just sound like a crazy person. E: Here you go. Based on the MM2 race, getting to Wily 1 in 33 minutes would be competative at least, hahah. I gotta do something about the not-being-able-to-see-myself problem if I want to finish an NES race. Last edited by McClain; 05-15-2013 at 07:26 PM. |

Argh, I went to process the Pentathlon footage, only to find that keepvid corrupted Narish and spoony's videos. So I have to re-download them.

Soundtrack and final encoding should be done tonight. If all goes as planned, uploading will begin sometime tomorrow.

Torgo, please tell me you made the volume louder than MM2 race?

And Destil's footage was devoured by angry weevils. Man, I'm starting to think that pentathlon was cursed! Speaking of which, I'd like to do a second run of it with some folks who didn't make it the first time, if anyone is interested, but I'm not any more able to make the final video than I was last time, so one of the racers would have to put it together. It also won't be until next weekend, 'cause I'm leaving for Milwaukee at 6:30 AM tomorrow.

I am. The problem last time was that I was really only adjusting it to my settings, which are usually pretty high, so what sounded perfectly normal to me sounded soft for (most?) everyone else. I've cranked the volume accordingly.

Me an' Kishi an' Nich are looking to race NES Contra tonight, probably around 10pm EST. The winner of the race has already been determined, but we could still use a fourth person to be made a fool of!

I suck at Contra, but if nobody else are available at the time, I guess I can be the comic relief guy who keeps dying on level 3.
Edit: if I'm in, should I train first? Or is it more fun if I'm really sucking? I have beaten the game, but that was a long time ago, and with the code. (ok, guess I'm really gonna be the comic/sucky relief if I join for this one) Last edited by Dadaph; 05-17-2013 at 03:47 PM. Reason: should I have an 80s training montage first? |

Anyway, still any interest in a SMB2 race this weekend? And do we have someone to do the video-combining if we do? Speaking of, could someone point me to the programs/tutorials necessary to do this? Dunno if I'll be able to pull it off but I'd like to try, and the more people we have doing the video-making the better. |

I'm up for racing, and I might even make it through the game then.
Fixed my connection on my desktop computer, so I hope Skype might sound a bit clearer than it did last time. |

Oh ho ho.
These stage markers are killing me. I've got my series of images laid out and all my timestamps. The plan is to string them together and encode it as a separate video and overlay it on the final product (essentially what Brick did for the Disney Race). The problem is, for the life of me I can't think of a way to string them together that won't require an absurd amount of frame perfect calculation and take me all blasted day. Brick, do you know of a way to simply string a set of images together and have it change at frame "x"? There's got to be a simpler, less time-consuming way then what I'm trying to do, but I'm not seeing it. |

You guys need to figure out if there's a way to do this on twitch so you can have spectators/hecklers.
I probably can't do a race tonight because Michelle is doing school stuff right behind me and would probably kill me, but I'm still available Sunday lunch/afternoon if anyone wants to do something in the daytime. |

Here's the code for the event icons in the Pentathlon video, for comparison: Code:
# Events counter # Game First frame # SMB3: 3173 # DW1 : 43740 # MM2 : 54838 # Metroid: 57117 # Zelda: 86570 e0=ImageSource("events_0.png", end=3172, fps=30).ConvertToYV12() e0=AudioDub(e0, BlankClip(last, length=200)).ResampleAudio(44000).ConvertToMono() e1=ImageSource("events_1.png", end=40567, fps=30).ConvertToYV12() e1=AudioDub(e1, BlankClip(last, length=200)).ResampleAudio(44000).ConvertToMono() e2=ImageSource("events_2.png", end=11098, fps=30).ConvertToYV12() e2=AudioDub(e2, BlankClip(last, length=200)).ResampleAudio(44000).ConvertToMono() e3=ImageSource("events_3.png", end=2279, fps=30).ConvertToYV12() e3=AudioDub(e3, BlankClip(last, length=200)).ResampleAudio(44000).ConvertToMono() e4=ImageSource("events_4.png", end=29453, fps=30).ConvertToYV12() e4=AudioDub(e4, BlankClip(last, length=200)).ResampleAudio(44000).ConvertToMono() e5=ImageSource("events_5.png", end=209092, fps=30).ConvertToYV12() e5=AudioDub(e5, BlankClip(last, length=200)).ResampleAudio(44000).ConvertToMono() efinal=(e0+e1+e2+e3+e4+e5).ChangeFPS(30) Fortunately the calculations aren't difficult. |

Many thanks for the script, Brick! It's been invaluable.
No, but they are time-consuming. Outside of certain contexts, straight math (even basic) is one of those seven levels of hell things for me. Fifth or sixth level, easy. Fortunately, with your script and a little more fussing and research, I have come up with a solution. Code:
mark1=ImageSource("marker1.png", fps=30, start=0, end=8434, use_DevIL=true) mark1=AudioDub(mark1, BlankClip(last, length=200)).ResampleAudio(48000) mark2=ImageSource("marker2.png", fps=30, start=8435, end=15174, use_DevIL=true) mark2=AudioDub(mark2, BlankClip(last, length=200)).ResampleAudio(48000) mark3=ImageSource("marker3.png", fps=30, start=15175, end=21325, use_DevIL=true) mark3=AudioDub(mark3, BlankClip(last, length=200)).ResampleAudio(48000) mark4=ImageSource("marker4.png", fps=30, start=21326, end=28972, use_DevIL=true) mark4=AudioDub(mark4, BlankClip(last, length=200)).ResampleAudio(48000) mark5=ImageSource("marker5.png", fps=30, start=28973, end=38670, use_DevIL=true) mark5=AudioDub(mark5, BlankClip(last, length=200)).ResampleAudio(48000) mark6=ImageSource("marker6.png", fps=30, start=38671, end=50019, use_DevIL=true) mark6=AudioDub(mark6, BlankClip(last, length=200)).ResampleAudio(48000) mark7=ImageSource("marker7.png", fps=30, start=50020, end=63678, use_DevIL=true) mark7=AudioDub(mark7, BlankClip(last, length=200)).ResampleAudio(48000) mark8=ImageSource("marker8.png", fps=30, start=63679, end=68971, use_DevIL=true) mark8=AudioDub(mark8, BlankClip(last, length=200)).ResampleAudio(48000) mark9=ImageSource("marker9.png", fps=30, start=68972, end=xxxxx, use_DevIL=true) mark9=AudioDub(mark9, BlankClip(last, length=200)).ResampleAudio(48000) final=alignedsplice(mark1,mark2,mark3,mark4,mark5,mark6,mark7,mark8,mark9) final I cribbed your line for the audio so it will play nice with the rest of the package. I honestly wasn't sure what I was going to do there. I just tested it against the rest of the video and it's right on the money. Setting aside the time it took to figure it out, I think this will shave a lot of time in the future for non-linear games like this that need progress markers. Also, less steps means less room for errors, which is exactly what an ignoramus like myself needs. avisynth is the best unintentional puzzle game ever. |
