Hahaha, well, just over an hour of recording was 9 gigs. Is that a problem? But the quality and the audio sync seems perfect, so that's good!

Also, when it comes time to send one of these things off to someone, how do I send a file that big? If a race is two hours, that's going to be pushing 20 gigs for me.

I'm using 30 FPS, Microsoft video 1, 100% compression quality, 1.00 temporal ratio.

ffdShow will give you a smaller output file, like way smaller.

And even then, it's not necessary for the file we use for Racing to be HD quality since it's going to be merged with a bunch of other videos so it won't be taking up the full screen. I use a program called 'Zune' mentioned upthread that can reduce the size of videos.

Zune, as in converting video to play on an actual Zune? Like this one?

Does that work for the people doing the editing? I'd rather just have my settings like they are for if/when I do my own LPs and shrink my files for races after.

E: EH, actually, this is taking for freaking ever to upload to Youtube, so yeah, I guess I'll try out FFDshow. Any setting tips, or do the defaults tend to work okay?

hahah, well I just set it to upload and went to work, and I'm probably not going to do too many 1 hour videos.

I'm going to try doing a recording with the ffdshow codec and then try compressing the one I already have with zune and see what works better. I don't know how far I'm going to do with this thing, but I suppose HD space could become a problem eventually.

One thing to keep in mind if you race, McClain, is how you're going to get your footage to the person who's putting the race video together. I tend to upload to Youtube, so dealing with LONG upload times might be something you'll have to deal with.

Also, keep in mind for Youtube uploads that your framerate will automatically be set to no faster than 29.97 frames per second.

I'm sticking with 30 fps because for some reason when I upped it to 60 one time it looked like shit

Do you use a smaller codec like FFDshow or just deal with larger files like I've been doing so far?

I personally record in Microsoft Video 1 codec. My race videos usually end up between 4-8gb.

Huh, well hell, I wonder how just 1 hour became 9 gigs for me, then. Maybe it's the size of the area I'm capturing, since I enlarged my emulator a bit.

Well, either way, I have A way to capture that I know works. I'll keep playing around with settings, but I'm basically ready to race.

SO, anyone up for something like Sunday afternoon? Or any other times planned?

In case anyone actually cares, here's my test video for the first half of SMB3. I guess you could scout me or something, haha.

You calling hax? After looking at your performance in the SMB3 race there are more than a few times where you do some pixel perfect "Longshot" style doding. One of the times is on Wendy's airship with a running duck jump past 3 cannonballs then sliding when you land under a bullet bill. XD

Oh, and the video and audio sound (and look) fantastic McClain! ^_^

Wait, are we having a Mario 3 race?

Can someone tell me when and what I need to do?

Yup, you got solid picture and audio there. Just remember: For racing you don't want to record your game audio. When it's go time, make sure to bring headphones.

Earliest I'm available on a Sunday is... 4pm Pacific. 5pm is probably more realistic. Friday through Monday are my best days personally. Thursdays are an absolute no go for me for the foreseeable future.

I really want to race SMB2.

This is the second time I've missed a race. I really need to pay more attention to this thread.

I'm only available in the late evening anyway, so maybe when a blue moon strikes I can be up for one.

Isrieri, here's what you do.

"Hey guys, I'd like to race SMB3! I'm available X:XX to Y:XX, Xday, or Yday. Who's up to race?"

I'm hoping we can do a repeat of some games. I don't see any reason to not do SMB3 again in a while.

Yep, that's just my mic picking up my speakers. I also tested with headphones and you just get my soothing melodic voice.

That's going to be getting kinda late for me on Sunday. Sunday afternoon works well for me because it's when I'm home alone, and Michelle gets home around 6 or 7 Eastern, so I don't want to be racing then.

I'm TOTALLY down SMB2 racing times, though.

I'm also good many mornings, since I work in the evening, and maybe some evenings, but right now Michelle is going to be busy with school since she's taking a Maymester.

Oh. Thanks!

I could do Super Ghouls n' Ghosts at 12:00AM - 3:00 AM EST May 20th or 21st.

And by "What do I do" I meant "How do I into Skype?"

I just mean like, Skype seems to be the method everyone uses to get connected and voice chat with each other during the race. And the only thing I've ever used skype for was the chat for typing. So I've never actually called anyone with it before.

But if I want to figure out how to do that I can probably not be lazy and just read the damn manual.

I'm up for anything this weekend(as I got the house to myself and can sit up screaming all night without bothering anyone, if needed).

SMB2 is one of my favorite games, so I'm all up for that.
