I sent ya a message Mike, we can now commence planning this Mega Man Pentathlon. ^_^

It would be an insane amount of work. I say we make Destil do it.

That's 25 minutes less than three hours!

Wow. Those racers look damn determined.

Also, who else was laying in bed weeks later thinking about the MM2 challenge? Best solution I came up with was "PACE", forget the bonus. Also, I have several challenges for an NES pentathlon 3 planned out, but mines a stave state gimmick one like Bricks and I'd need some time to finalize it and make the states. Quote:
EDIT: It took me almost my entire life bar to remember what the block button was in punch out. Last edited by Destil; 06-10-2013 at 12:44 AM. |

Best solution is WHAM! Actually requires you to defeat 4 robot masters, and spells a word that only truly exists in the Adam West Batman universe.

There's a block button in punch out?

Brick, go ahead and go for your MMX run. My desktop is dead.

I did not know that going into the race, which is why up to that point I was always stalling out at Great Tiger.
Once I learned of it, it was like a whole new world opened up, my eyes were opened. I surpassed myself in that race. (of course I still can't actually defeat Bald Bull) |

Yep, that's why I figured it would go faster than anything without Airman. Two stage with a weakness chain to follow, then an easy third pickup.

The first word that came to mind for me was CHEW. I thought that's what Brick was going for until they started talking about fake words.

If you aren't playing on level 9, then why not bury yourself down to level 0 and brute force the challenge? I really don't understand why you would stay on level 8 for half an hour.
Maybe I'm just a metagaming fool. |

I don't understand. Which boss gives you the "!"?

Here's one I came up with: Megamantactoe
Get any three RMs in a row to move on. |

You have to go beat Ice Man in the original Mega Man, then you take the i and turn it upside down. Come on, Brick, think outside the box a little!
Also, I would totally play a round of MegaManTacToe. You could sort of fudge it in the first game by saying you have to beat three adjacent robot masters. |

Nabbing Red's and McClain's pentathlon footage now.
Umby and Mike: Just shoot me a link whenever you get your footage to wherever you plan to upload it. Brick: Similarly, feel free to throw me a download to the pentathlon resources whenever. Any time is fine. Bummer to hear that, man. Was anything lost? |

Brick and I were talking about it (and I think it was mentioned upthread) but i think for future pentathlons it might be good for the games to be announced ahead of time. It's a bit much to have people playing games they have never played before. At the very least I think a list of 10 games that the five will come from should announced. I think it makes for better races when people know what they are going to be playing, even if the challenges are surprises (as they should be) and it'll help with commentary if people don't have to dance around "the third game" the whole time.

I think that's part of the fun, although it's also kind of excruciating to watch Narishm lose to Don Flamenco repeatedly.

Yeah, I really like the whole surprise angle, personally. There's definitely room for races where the games are sorta-kinda known ahead of time but not completely, but I still plan to make more pentathlons in the same style as the first two in the future. Though I'll probably try to pick shorter challenges for them.

To be fair, they did announce the Pentathlon I games in advance.

You don't have to do one or the other, either. I missed that Metroid was in the first one but still managed to fumble my way up that shaft. I think announcing some games would be reasonable (especially those with a lot of execution difficulty or that are less well known), but not necessarily all.

Megaman Tic-tac-toe is a great idea! This gets me thinking there could be an entire Pentathlon devoted strictly to Mega Man/X games. No switching between consoles, of course... that would just get hectic. Unless people are up for it, I guess it wouldn't be too bad. But sticking with classic megaman would probably be best.
ideas: 1) collect all the item(s)/rush forms/armor pieces etc. from a specific game (would not apply to MM1). 2) beat a stage/boss without sliding/dashing and/or jumping 3) get through a stage without using any weapons with one e-tank on reserve. Juuust brainstorming here... I'd like to be involved in the next one of these things! |

Is there a password that starts you with the leg upgrades in MMX? Because it would be nice to see a race of it that wasn't in the same order as every other one.
(I mean, we could get one that skips the intro level, I guess...) |

I'm okay with including the other items, but there's no contest which stage to to do first, especially since legs are required to get all the others. Also I like the idea of judging how well you can play the end game vs. the time required to grab them.
