Lets racing time

Sweet! Tell you what, hold off on posting it until next weekend. If I'm free (and folks are interested) then maybe we could try to run it on Friday or Saturday night. If that doesn't work out, then you can post it, 'cause it may be a while before another chance comes around.

I will do my best to be free one of those nights.

I can possibly be available on Friday. Saturday I work late-ish. I need to figure out my video issues, though.

Well I'm leaning more towards Friday than Saturday anyway, but I won't know until we're a bit closer. Need to find out if we're going anywhere on the weekend or not.

Friday should be doable for me if you care to have/need another body. I'm trying to think if I got anything going on and I'm coming up empty.

If it's about Pentathlon II, my next two Fridays and weekends are completely shot. I would like to be in on it.

I'm free...ish, so I'd be interested provided that:

1. I'll be home in time for it (I hang out at the IO office for a while, but with the boss' heading to E3, not much for me to do there this week)
2. I fix my USB problems by then (hopefully this evening)

I'll keep my eye on this thread to see what time is good for everyone and update once I know what's going on.

I came up with a list of Bionic Commando achievements. I've been working on my speed run tactics, if I can figure out the tech side I'd actually like to host it.

What if I'm probably going to be bad at all five pentathlon games and not finish? Can I join anyways? :P

Trust me, I'm pretty sure this time around there is somebody worse. XD

Okay, time to plan Pentathlon 2: The Second Heat! It's going to have to be Friday this week, starting at 9 PM Eastern time (sorry k-floyd). Several participants in the first group took over 2 hours to finish, to my great surprise, so make sure your schedule is clear until midnight or so. Also note that I am still a lazy bastard who cannot put the final video together, so, uh, I hope one our racers can do that for me.

So far there seems to be interest from Red, McClain, Torgo and maybe ASandoval? If you guys can confirm (or deny) your presence, then we'll see how many players we have and if we need any more. And if anyone can't make it, or if there's no room left for them, I have an idea! Once the second race is done, I can make a zip file with the challenge pictures in it for distribution. Since none of the challenges use a save state, and since the games are all common ones that most people will have lying around, you could do a solo run of the Pentathlon by just opening each of the challenge images in turn and then loading up the appropriate game. That would be kind of fun, right?

EDIT: Umby, you would almost certainly do as well as some of the contestants from the previous heat, even if you've never played the games before. Don't worry about it!

My NES/gaming skills are pretty hit and miss. I'm pretty solid at Mario and can adapt to most platformers, but I'm kind of shit at any shooter or things with unique controls. I've never played Bionic Commando for more than a few minutes without getting frustrated and quitting.

I'm tentatively in, I may or may not be on the way to the beach then. So do we not know what games are involved until the challenge starts?

Game Genie code SZNUIYVG gives you infinite lives. I used it first time through. Little tip: grind health upgrades the first time you encounter endlessly-respawning enemies.

Missed this one before. I'm not sure if 9-midnight is going to work for me on Friday or not, now that I think about it, since that's a time Michelle and I are both off and will probably want to do something. Plan on me not running for now. If there's an opening and we end up not doing anything I may try to jump in later, but I don't want to hold a spot out from someone who knows they can run.

I think I can make that, but replace me if I don't make it for 9 PM. I have a dinner party and I could end up staying late depending on how well I hit it off with the other guests. I'd love to fail for the camera, however.

It's entirely possible this is something she would be interested in doing. I just don't want to hold a spot since it's possible we will be going out that night or something. I'll try to find out and let you know if there's still a spot open, but I'd rather give other folks a chance to fill it up if they want to.

Slowly. I have a problem where I try to render a a pass, and my computer freezes at the 11th hour.

Render it out in smaller sections, instead of one 2 hour video, make eight 15 minute ones or 4 half hour ones. 00:00:00:00 to 00:15:00:00, then 00:15:00:00 to 00:30:00:00, etc.

That way your last render is just stitching together pre-rendered videos.

Also, at Red's request I've curated the Let's Racing Time channel a bit to make it look pretty with the new Youtube layout. However there are two things that still need to be done. Well one thing that needs done, and another that would just be superfluous but nice.

First we need channel art, as my skills lie mostly on the technical side of things I figure I should ask one of the more artistic peeps to lend aid here. You can find the specifications for making the new Youtube One Channel art here.

The other is a 2 minute-ish video for non-subscribers. (This is the superfluous one.) However if the community wants to do something like pull the racer peeps onto one skype call and record something to put there, then that's a thing too.

Other than that I cleaned up the titles and tags, made two playlists, and set up the shelves on the channel.

It'd be awesome if someone like Loki or Dadaph could art up something impressive to give it a unique Talking Time flair, but I don't want to put any pressure on them or add to their workload.

I might try and whip something up when I get home today.

Oops! Apparently I have a thing tomorrow night, so I won't be able to start the Pentathlon (#2) until 10 PM Eastern time. Let me know if that works better or worse for any of you potential racers.

Also, is there anyone interested in putting together the pieces? Ideally one of the racers.

If you can't get one of the racers I can add it to the end of my run, but I have two races ahead of it right now. (Super Mario All-Stars and Super Mario World)

The two-minute trailer video solutions is simple: we race a two-minute game. Green Hill in Sonic 1 or something.

Narishm will have to sit this one out, or else it will stretch out into a nine-minute trailer. Hey-o!

Hey now, hey... Hey. Once upon a time I used to be good at video games. Like in most of that first pentathlon XD. I won everything that didn't matter. XD (Ha, I made that joke before... because reusing material is funny...)
