Pretty sure you could run X this way no problem, after screwing around with the Magma Wave.

I think a better way to run this would be you can use Buster but only if all other weapons are out of energy. If you have energy for a weapon you have to use it. And you have to try and pick up every weapon power drop you can. I suppose Weapon tanks could be saved for the Wily/Fortress stages unless you want to be cruel and say they have to be used if you have one and all weapons are out of energy.

Hideofbeast has a YouTube series for the "Kirby challenge". You fight one robot master with the buster, and then you have to switch to that robot master's weapon until you defeat another one.
This, as well as buster-only or no-buster or any other variant, strikes me as a master class challenge and not really race material. I would have to invest hours of practice into a game before I'd feel comfortable racing one under these limits, and I'm considered pretty good at Mega Man games. |

Someone needs to hack the energy balancer into pretty much all the early Mega Man games.
I'm not saying this specifically for a challenge run, I'm just saying it needs to be done. If you guys want to do some Mega Man games where you just use the special weapons, you should play Mega Man: A Day in the Limelight 2. But never the first one, it's garbage. |

Mega Man 2 wouldn't be too bad with weapon only. Between quick boomerang and metal blade you can deal with nearly everything and they both last forever. But you'd likely want to do Quick Man first (he's immune to metal blade).

Got it on my first try (on difficult), though I did have to continue once due to a stupid death at the start of Bubble Man's stage, of all places (the falling platforms bit killed me) plus a pair of deaths at Quickman and Woodman's hands.

As a bonus, Metal Man is weak to Quick Boomerang.

Meh, I find that fight harder with Q than P, I just suck at dodging the blade without the full screen width to work with (took way more damage this run than I usually do, had to dip into my E-Tanks).

Pentathlon #2 is processing. Should hopefully be live by tonight. Sorry for the delay!
Still beat SMB3 though! |

Re-watching the footage, I see that Destil is technically disqualified for not completing Challenge #2. The .png clearly says that death-by-monster doesn't count!
I'm too lazy to do anything about it, though. You guys will have to be sure to tear him apart in the video comments once it goes live. |

Apart from that entirely, the "v1.0" Mega Man X rom has a partial-level-skip glitch that might be interesting to mess around with. |

All right, guys, I think I have everything that I need in place for the second pentathlon. Five NES classics have been chosen, and every challenge begins at the start of the game, so you can use whatever emulator you are comfortable with to play the games. If people are interested, I could host a race session tomorrow night from 10 PM-midnight Eastern time (although I think most people who are decent at games could probably finish in under an hour).
Only thing is, I am not even 1% ready to do the editing on the resulting product, due to a lack of software and time, so I'd like to see if any of the racers would be willing to put the final product together once it is done. Would anybody be interested in both racing and editing together the final product? |

Oh my God. McClain is right, there are points in the Pentathlon video I can't tell if it's me or Brick laughing.
I... I need to go sit down a while. |

One day you and Brickroad will meet, and when you laugh at the same time it'll cause a singularity that unmakes the Universe.

I knew I was super lucky to accidentally walk straight for the swamp, but I did not see "twice as fast as everybody else" coming. Ultra-lucky!

I'm curious what kind of start-of-game challenges Mike has come up with.
One of the most obvious but still challenging ideas I forgot: Start on Level 9 of Tetris and get a tetris (four line clear) to move on. |

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
Put me down as a maybe for tonight. 10pm EST is about as late as I'm usually willing to go on a worknight, but tonight ain't a worknight. Entirely possible I might zonk out by then though, but if I'm online and ya'll need a fourth then I'll do my best. |

Do we have space for me? I can play at 10PM EDT tonight and just do Magic this weekend.

10 PM tonight? Pretty sure my usual RPG thing is off, but someone would need to give me a crash course in whatever everyone's using to record things.

The list so far:
Brick Narishm Destil Spoony?? Red?? Could y'all PM me your Skype handles? I'll get a call going at about 9:45 PM EDT tonight. Quote:
Don't want to harsh on you, but you definitely need to get your recording rig set up and give it a stress test (~2 hours) before you sign up for any of these races. I've found Hypercam to be a good, free option that works with minimal fuss, but "minimal fuss" means you'll probably still waste 3-5 hours finding recording and codec settings that work well for you. |

Hypercam - codec Microsoft Video 1 -> Frame Compression Quality 100% -> Configure this Compresser -> Temporal Quality 1.00
As for the time, same as last time, it might be tight, but I'll try to make it. No worries if you guys have to run without me though. |

Also, you need to make sure that your video captures the audio from your microphone, but NOT from the game.
