That's what I did when I stripped all the video out of my video.

I am pretty amazed at just how well it turned out.

Also apparently Mega Move is my theme song now.

Hot damn, no kidding.

Now that you've done all this once, Narishm, how hard would it be to replicate stuff like this? It's probably too late for the SMB2 race to be blinged out in the same manner.

Now that I have everything figured out, it would probably take about two weeks. The extra time is for asset production, the images and such will have to be made and themed for the game being raced.

Eventually I could probably cut this down to a week once I really get it nailed down. The last two weeks have been me trying to figure out how to render it and not have everything break. XD

I'm pretty decent at image-make, and I know other folks here are too, so that's some gruntwork that can probably be shared.

That would help tremendously, once I figure out the layout I can give you (or others) quick mock ups and let you get to work on it. Different things will increase or decrease the time. Such as the achievements, without those you can knock a day or two off the time.

Doing the achievements here, for example, was basically me (and Red) brainstorming things to be achieved, then I had to watch the footage and mark everything down, then make a little plaque to replace the name-plate for each one and duplicate that for each person switching little things so they aren't carbon copies. All told 2 days of editing and 1 day of image making, with pickups, and another day for cleanups and fixing mistakes. So that's almost a week extra to add achievements. XD

I typically spend 4-5 days prepping images and such for all of my LPs, and the races are no different in the end. How fast I can do it depends on how many want to help with the images, and what features you want to see in the final product.

One change I would consider, Nari, is to reclaim the vertical space between videos. For the price of the big nameplates you could have the four videos each play at a larger resolution, which is the most important thing in my opinion. I think it would be fine to just have an achievement box pop up on the action for a second or two, especially in SMB3 which has a large, static HUD.

Other than that I thought it looked really pleasant and colorful. No way I'm putting that much work into the races I produce, though. =)

I'll do for the next one. I was concerned about whether to cover up the action a little or shrink the action a little. The next one I do I'll maximize the size of the videos and try to do achievements as pop-ups. ^_^

Yeah, Nari. I only previewed the first ten minutes or so last night, but dang. That's some impressive work, my man. I'm especially digging the way you got the music cutting in and out so dynamically.

Well I figure if I was going to suck at the game, at least I can edit it super nice so maybe no one notices. XD (except Red :P)

I will say that the music, as awesome and well edited as it it, may be just a touch too loud. I'm having a real hard time hearing Luke when he comes on (though I think he's also having skype/mike problems?).

Still, very impressive editing! I agree with Brick on the screen real estate, but you also managed to make it so it's not too fuzzy at full screen, which helps.

Yeah, Luke's audio was dodgy. I turned it up almost to the point of breaking it, and I turned the music way down, but I was still kinda worried I didn't nail the balance quite right.

Yeah, I rendered it out in 720p I figured if someone wanted to really read the little plates they can go fullscreen. ^_^ (I would have tried 1080p but I think my computer would have exploded...)

It wasn't that the music was too loud, it's that you used music from a lot of difference sources, and the music wasn't equalized throughout. There was never a spot where I thought the music was too loud to hear the conversation, but there were spots where a particularly loud song followed a much quieter one, which makes it more noticable.

That's a really hard thing to balance, though. I don't really have any tips, because I can never get it right either.

I might be up for MMX tomorrow, depending on the time. Got my snes recording set up and ready, and MMX isn't a game I'm completely awful at.

Likewise, for me it would really depend on time. Still haven't solved my general desync issues, but I have audacity recording working.

Looks like we'll have two MMX groups, because I've got one planned with Kefka and Sovan and Nodal on Monday.

It's not just a race, it's a race between races. Time will tell which race is the raciest!

Yeah, I could have spent another day or two trying to balance things, but there was no guarantee that it would have been any better, and a high chance I would have broken something. Audio is hard. XD

MMX is a no go for me tomorrow. I'm going to be dead tired when I get home from work in the morning and I got plans in the afternoon/evening.

If you haven't done a significant successful test recording you really shouldn't be racing. I've managed to fuck up a race by losing my recording after hours of setup and testing. You need to be sure you can produce a 2-3 hour video without any real technical issues before you start.

What's the consensus for MMX times? I'm only really going to be able to play if it's later in the evening, like after 7PM MST (GMT-7). Possibly very early in the morning (if we can wrap up before 10 AM or so, which I really doubt unless I'm playing with some east coasters).

Something that may help you guys with de-syncing issues. Instead of trying to record a straight 2-3 hour video. You can do what I do, and set your recorder to start a new video file every 15-30 minutes. You end up with a lot of smaller videos with a far less likelihood that they are desynced.

I'm not sure if hypercam supports that or not, I use Debut to record mine and it does.

Yeah, I probably won't even be home to film this anyway unless it happened late at night (like, 10:00PM EST) anyway. Which is upsetting because this is a game that I'm good at and could race and I love this game forever and ever. Maybe at some point down the line some people who didn't get to race this time can race the game again and then I'll be ready.

Should be prepared for at least 2 hours, maybe even 3.
I have no idea how experienced the MMX racers would be, but speaking for myself, I know the game well enough to get through consistently, but I need the armor pieces and powerups, and will probably also grab the hadoken to make all my failures against the final boss(es) go quicker and less painfully for my own sake(I always fail a million times against that final form). Would probably complete the game at somewhere between 1 and 2 hours myself(I somehow doubt I'll win), but for a game of that size, one better be prepared.
Remember even Super Mario Land lasting for nearly 2 hours.

I'm at CET myself, which is EST+6, but I'm home alone and working from home at the moment, so for me, it all depends if I'm able to stay awake.
