Lets racing time

We can fix the fps on our end using Avisynth. Record at whatever framerate you're most comfortable with, provided it's 100% and synced with your audio.

To be fair, 10 FPS is kinda crummy to watch. But I imagine 20 is probably not bad.

True, but if you accidentally record at that rate, or it's the only way your crummy computer can handle it, we can make it work on our end.

30 is ideal, 20 is good enough, 10 is crummy but we can deal.

I think between our personal testing in this thread and McClain's issues with Zelda Classic, Hypercam gets wonky at 30 fps. I personally record it at 25 fps for all my Let's Play videos.

FWIW, I used 30 in my SMB2 race, but then I was having issues and dropped down to 25 for the last Zelda video. I can't really tell the difference between 25 and 30, and I think the issues were mostly unrelated to the frame rate, but I think 25 works fine if that's what works for you.

So, I tried to go watch some other races by some non-TT people. It did not have the same draw.

Egh. So I just installed a random PCI USB interface card we had lying around the office (two usb1s isn't ideal but whatchagonnado?) and while it showed promise at first by actually getting my microphone to light up, indicating that there's power, as well as windows installing some generic drivers for the device, it's still not reading anything I'm plugging into it.

Since it's a random and super old card, there's no way for me to tell what kind it is to hunt down some drivers for it, so I'm going to have to cut my losses and order a new card, preferably USB-3. That unfortunately cost money... and time. So for the moment I won't be racing anything, including the Pentathlon tomorrow. :/ Once I'm good and ready again, I'll let everyone know.

Final pass of MMX is rendering. In my opinion this is the funniest race we have recorded yet. There's a series of poop jokes in the first ten minutes I think you will all enjoy, and then George Takei becomes a running gag, and it just gets better from there.

Lilfut, I'm not against you joining us, but please only do so if you've had the chance to thoroughly test your recording setup beforehand. The race will probably take around 2-2.5 hours, so a test run of about 3 would be a good idea, just in case. If anyone else is interested in playing, please say so, we might be able to work you in if someone has to back out.

So the race starts at 10 PM Eastern time tonight. I probably won't get home until shortly beforehand, so I won't be able to check this thread during the day. So my current idea for the header: "Let's Racing Time" in the middle. Some wavy checkboard-pattern in the background, to indicate racing.
At the left of the logo, I'll do a bunch of characters, like Mario, Mega Man, Scrooge McDuck, Sonic, whatever, racing each others. On the right, I'll do Percy holding a stopwatch or something.
I'll be happy to hear some input, if anyone have some crazy ideas. I plan to do some character stuff, like Tails carrying Sonic, and Scrooge pogoing.


Just made a pretty quick sketch of my general idea. The rectangle in the middle indicates that important area, but I plan to include a few more racers in there. Also need something to add to the right of Percy. A finish line perhaps, or maybe bacon?

I'll be attending a convention today and tomorrow, so will be dead tired when I get home, so I can't start working on anything until Sunday at earliest. Hopefully have it done some time during next week. Does that sound ok?

I would recommend maybe flipping it, and putting the racers on the right and Percy on the left. The reason is that the channel Avatar is going to be over-layed on the top left side. You can check out the header here, to see what things are going to be over-layed onto this image.

I think Percy should be dropping the stopwatch with his usual "oops/I'm oh so innocent" expression.

Got my setup going again and I'm pretty much good to go.

Good to know, thanks. I'll keep that in mind if I decide to flip it or not. It's usually better composition to have the movement go from left to right in an image, but I'll look more into this as I start drawing.

Having Percy somehow drop the stop watch could also be cool.

Perhaps there could also be a Derp Bird waddling the wrong way. Or something else equally silly.

Perhaps Billy "Big Bang" Blitz and Tom Guycot could show up trackside as a commentary team.
