All-Stars is bad and you should feel bad! Also, at least my copy was glitched in that it saved your inventory, but not your place in the world, so you could go to a mushroom house, save quit restart and then go to that mushroom house again.
And, how hard would it be to just leave it running for a couple of minutes while you wait for your opponent. |

That's not a glitch. Aside from Lost Levels, all of the All-Stars games drop you back at the start of the world you were in, as if you'd gotten a game over.

The All-Stars version of SMB3 saved the fortresses (and subsequent path unlocks) though. It's basically the same thing that would happen via game over on the NES version, you'd restart the world and all the stages would be back, but the fortresses would stay cleared so you could skip at least some content via bypassing the locks (so, say, if you game overed in world 1-6 or something you'd restart at the beginning but could run south straight to 1-5)
It's not a feature I personally used all that much, since on the NES cart a game over usually either meant a reset or the end of the playing session, and even when I was playing All-Stars I'd usually save sessions in between worlds, and not in the middle of them. Still, it was a neat touch. |

Yeah, being able to redo Mushroom Houses was considered working as intended, to the point that it was mentioned in Nintendo Power as a "unlimited Tanooki/Hammer Bros. Suits' trick at least twice.
I know Brickroad and some others would prefer to run a daytime race, but I might be able to run a late night race on Friday or Saturday evening if anyone is interested in that timeslot (the downside is I wouldn't be available until after 8pm Mountain/10pm Eastern) Barring that, I'm trying to see if I can free up some time on Saturday during the day. |

Well I am fine with sitting out in place of a TT vet who wants to take part. I'm still really new to the community here and I wouldn't feel right being in something with limited spots when another long standing member of the community wanted a spot. ^_^
I'm fine on the B team, I have plenty of things to keep me busy on my channel. =) |

Man, Disney Afternoon and Mega Man 2 both had people not from TT on it.

Well, just saying. ^_^ I've been thinking about hosting one of these myself at some point too, I just didn't have a big enough group of kewl people to pitch the idea too before now. =)

Have you played around with the technical side of putting together race videos? The more folks we have to who can do the grunt work, the more races we'll be able to have.

Well I haven't used AVISynth, I caught the tail-end of a discussion before about that program I believe. I typically edit all my videos by hand with Premiere Pro. However since I started doing LPs I haven't ran into anything that I couldn't figure out how to do. As long as I have video at a decent frame-rate with no skipping, and good audio. I can raise or lower volume levels or resolutions. Working with 8 and 16 bit graphics is easy for resolution re-sizing. Oh... and a good sync point XD, very important.
I'm sure there are probably surprise things I am not taking into account, but I am fairly confident I can handle them. So then, no I haven't done it yet, but yes I believe I can. ^_^ In some ways it will probably be easier than my typical videos because there aren't a dozen other graphics I have to make. ^_^ |

Narishm, we try not to take too much stock in any sort of seniority around these parts. As far as races go, I consider 'em first come, first serve to anyone who to play. If we have more than six we can look into splitting it up or doing multiple runs. Basically, if you want in, then jump on in.
If you (or anyone really) wants some pointers with virtualdub(mod) or avisynth, free free to hit me up. I'm still a huge noob when it comes to video stuff, but I know enough about getting these races put together that I can probably troubleshoot any sticking points you might have... or at least show you what I did to get the results. |

Thanks Torgo and Red for making me feel welcome. =)
Yeah, I don't mind helping out with the 'grunt work' as you put it, Brickroad. Having another editor would lighten the load on everyone. ^_^ Hit me up on Skype if anyone wants to get in touch with me. My skype name is Narishm. ^_^ YeY for unified branding. XD |

Final jump of 8-2 is a dick.
I should be free Saturday during the day, so anyone else free at that time let me know! |

I should be free Saturday during the day. (EST) I'll have to double check to make sure, but I think I can swing that.

If anyone is available tomorrow (Friday) night, I have put together the first LETS RACING TIME NES PENTATHLON. This is a series of grueling surprise challenges that are designed to make unsuspecting racers groan and/or cuss a lot. Can I make you hate five classic NES games in just a couple hours? I'm willing to bet I can.
If anyone's up for it, download and install the FCEUX emulator. The savestates I made are compatible with the newest version (2.2.1). Anyone game? |

I haven't yet figured out this whole uploading-vidja-games-to-the-interwebs thing so I won't be able to do any SMB3 racing. At least not for this weekend.

I am willing to participate in this so long as your delicious schadenfreude does not involve anyone getting FUKT.
If it doesn't spoil anything, are you using the definition of 'classic' that implies 'good'? Or is this gonna be a transforming cephalopods only kind of deal? |

Man, Friday nights are usually awful for me but now I'm super curious.

I'm obviously interested in pentathlons, and Fridays are pretty good for me in general, but it might depend on just how epic you are planning on making this. Any idea how long it would take an uninformed player to complete this thing? Did you do a test run of it yourself?

I'm just preparing for the worst, like beat Igor and The Monster with no subweapons, or Buster Cannon only Elec Man. XD

So "forever", then.

Saturday daytime: Super Mario Bros. 3 race!
Ideally, a total of 4 or 5 racers. My net is down at home, but I plan to be racing from a secondary location anyway, so the lack of net will not stop me from racing. I plan to be available on Skype starting between 12pm-1pm Mountain time (2pm-3pm Eastern) and if you're interested, please post here as well as adding me on Skype (red_silvers, you should recognize my avatar on there). Please remember that SMB3 can take some time to clear, so clear some time from your schedule! Rules: No warp zones, you can have Warp Whistles in your inventory but you can't use them. You do NOT have to beat every level, so strategic level play and Jugem Cloud use are up for grabs! Off the top of my head I can think of SpoonyBard and Narishim being interested in racing, but I'm not sure if the time is good. |

Should be fine by me, I'm going to make myself avaliable on Skype from now through Monday pretty much all the time. If you (or anyone) need (or want) to chat. ^_^ (Skype = Narishm)

I literally have no social life whatsoever. My plan is to sign onto Skype at, I dunno, 5pm or so, and then just sit here all night playing games and eating Cheetos.

The games are Metroid, Mega Man 2, The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Dragon Warrior. Quote:
I tried to stick to games that most NES players know. It was tempting to spring Bubble Bath Babes or D-Pad Hero on you guys, and maybe I will someday, but sticking to the classics is better. To give you an idea of what to expect, if this were an SNES challenge, you might see things like "get 100 points on Hit That Switch!!" or "beat Agahnim with the bug net". My pal Jude suggested some of the challenges, and the first idea of his I rejected was "finish the Turbo Tunnel". |

Well seeing the lineup I feel better about it, 4 of the games I know inside and out... however one of them I've never played. XD
