I'm not convinced on Another Moon, but it's definitely true for Mountain of Trials.

Whether "praying" got written down as "wishing" as the result of censorship or the consistently awful translation is a mystery for the ages.

In the original game I always thought that Namingway looked like a minotaur in a sombrero.

I can see Namingway being a rabbit from that portrait. The ears are long enough for it if you consider the turban's positioning; you're only seeing the tops of their ears.
Besides, lunar rabbits are hardly anything new to Japanese storytelling. |

And the GBA portrait just seems like someone hilariously misinterpreted the original sprite to me. The portrait is only of his upper torso, so it doesn't even make sense to include a tail there at all.
That pink and white thing at the bottom is an open book, not what seems to be a skirt in FFIVA. The thing that turned into a tail was originally Namingway's left hand. They just removed the right hand too, since I guess they thought it was a whisker. |

Can we not obsess over stupid little details trying to reconcile what this character is and just agree that it's a bad design?

I always used to think that Namingway was just a fat kid wearing some weird turban-hat hybrid.
And it didn't occur to me just now that the Namingway in each town might have been meant to be a descendant of the original Namingway who left the moon, rather than one guy who runs from town to town to town faster than the party can fly (or teleport.) |

Maybe there's a tenious Namingway relationship to THIS (something I scrawled out of mash potatoes, i don't know what it means):
And then a voice said "When you understand namingway, you understand god." Speaking of which, i jumped the gun awhile back, but now that FuSoYa has been introduced, his Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy inspiration (TV 1981): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPWnitDyIOw |

Regardless of whether you say it outloud or read it silently, "Lunarians' slumber" means "the slumber of multiple Lunarians."
Even when I played this as a 9 year old, I thought it was pretty clear at the time because of: It's still an awkward translation though, due to the dropped "the." |

No, see, the point is, Rosa isn't reading it silently. She's listening to FuSoYa say it out loud. Unless he pronounces "Lunarians'" as "Lunarianses", she can't tell the difference.

"Ten! Nine!" "We're here!" "Eightsevensixfivefourthreetwooneblastoff..."
This got me when I got this game for Christmas 1991 and got to this point...about a few weeks later? Anyway, I just kept going back and forth between the moon and the blue planet just because that animation was so awesome.
Believe it or not, this is a problem I have with the (erm, hypothetical) DS version of this game - the cinematic just shows you approaching the moon/Blue Planet, not the start where you actually lift off of where you started. Though it's almost worth it for Edge thinking to himself, "From here, the planet looks perfectly round!" Take that, flat-earthers! Ah, and I also pretty much beat Bahamut by beating the crap out of him before he finished his countdown. I wasn't too much on this 'strategy' thing when I was a kid.
