The first time I did this sidequest I got Sylph and then continued with the plot. I found out that if you don't take the PAN back before the endgame, you're stuck with it in your inventory forever.

In all seriousness, though, this thing has been top notch and I don't think anyone else had any qualms about that update. Still, it's good that you were worried about it because that means you care about the quality of your work.

The spoon was called a 'hocho' in the original Japanese FF4, which roughly means 'kitchen knife.' A spoon is a certainly more memorable weapon.

Also, it echoes the theme of spooniness that pervades the game.

The Pan's Japanese name is "Fry Pan of Love." Which is amazing.

I should also mention that Cecil's full name in the japanese version was Cecil Freckle Dumplins Harvey. Why they changed it, one can only speculate.

I've actually never seen any of this dialogue, mainly because I've never used guides. Here's how my runs through a game tend to go:
1. Vanilla run
2. Re-experience the game, if it has any branching choices I generally go for the ones I didn't pick the first time. For Cave Story, repeat this about 5 times as I obsessively try every possible combination of weapons.
3. Challenge run (single-character, low-level, etc.) that I give up on by the first dungeon. If the game is FF1 or FF3j, repeat this step roughly 20 times.
4. "Hey, let's try going for all the exposition and seeing if there are any sidequests!" Did you know Jack tells you how Arthur became a hero of the Mimiga, and also how the Red Demon ties into the story? He does!

I've only played FF4 3 times, so...

If I were Let's Playing my current playthrough of Mega Pants and the Three Dead Thieves, you can bet there would be a montage of "Mega Pants got petrified by a random bird" shots.

I think you have to talk to him just after the Labyrinth. My memory's a bit fuzzy though, basically just obsessively find and talk to him at every point in the game and you'll get it.

If you think that's hot, wait until Cid installs the winch on the Big Whale! On the moon, the hovercraft moves on the same cushion of air that the heroes breathe and it lets you ride into the Koopa Cave where you see the Koopalings negotiate with Golbez timeshares of the Red Wings so they can terrorize the Mushroom Kingdom in Super Mario 3.

I disagree. Rosa's name sounds right, but I'm pretty sure the bard is Edward Elopticontra Spoonicus Clopashindigdoggerel.
