Regarding the DUMPS password...

The phrase used for testing out new fonts on systems is usually "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" since it has every letter of the alphabet in it. How the word "jumps" turned into "dumps" is beyond me.

Looking back at it, turns out what I thought was a D was actually a J.

So yeah.

Still, look at it.

Does the tile in the center look like a D or a J at first glance?

That is clearly a D, in the far right. Compare it to the O which is adjacent so you aren't confused.

Well yeah, I can tell the difference (little box on the lower left) now, but while I was writing that update I couldn't.

And the D is the leftmost panel there, so no idea what you mean by far right. Yes, I know you mean the right side of the picture but that's still not the far right; that'd be the edge.

...and so the clue based on a phrase associated with fonts is derailed by a bad font choice. Good job, MBN2!

Haruka says we can get a passport at the Center.

Might as well see what Lan’s “friends” have to say about this.

I decided to challenge Gutsman V3 again.

Then I did it again with Air Shoes in my folder and as my Regular chip.

Turns out Air Shoes doesn‘t last the whole battle.

Once we enter the Metro, we get more mail.

Mr. Famous notes that Electopia needs some stronger Net Battlers.

If you beat him, you’ll get a special chip folder.

Yuichiro reminds us to go to the Center for our passport. He also asks us to stop by his lab.

There’s a familiar face at the Marine Metro.

Douche is just staring at the ticket machines, so I have no idea what he’s talking about.

HOLY SHIT RECOGNITION!

…What? That’s the only thing Megaman really did solo besides all the puzzle solving.

As it turns out, even at V1 my Aqua charge shot is strong enough to destroy the Gate Soldiers. And since it charges up pretty much instantly, I had a much easier time.

Aside from a cheap shot with the Gate Cannon (was dodging some Gate Soldiers and got forced into the row he was firing in), and some more Remote Gate shenanigans (seriously, screw that thing. It makes almost all projectile attacks completely useless), it was an easy battle.

Mr. Famous then e-mail us the instructions on how to use his Folder… despite being right in front of us.

Basically all he tells us is how to change Folders. The 30 chips already in this folder are pretty useless except for Hi Cannon E-F-G, which is pretty much a free Program Advance.

What’s a Program Advance? We’ll get to that.

He’s totally lying. Netopia’s Net is the same as Electopia‘s, if not worse with all of the stronger viruses.

As tempted as I am to go with option two, I do want to get on with things.

…Ah, screw it, why not.

The woman tells us that our passport is stored on our PET as data.

I’m sorry, I can’t hear you over all of the foreshadowing.

Anyways, now we can got to the Airport through the Metro.

HOW DID SHE FIND OUT?

Seriously, how? Lan didn’t get to tell her, so I can only assume she was just spying on him or something.

…What…? That… wow, that is possibly the worst way to buy gifts ever.

In the anime, Lan created this thing himself despite being a stereotypical shonen hero (read: he was an idiot). Yeah, it was pretty random.

Anyways, this thing is pretty much useless. You have to put the Wireless into the jack in port before you can use it, and if you’re doing that you may as well just jack in normally.

We can jack into the machine that displays flight times. Inside was a Bug Frag.

Lan walks through.

Lan proceeds to moonwalk through the gate.

Seriously.

Megaman asks if Lan is carrying anything strange.

Lan walks through again and sets the detector off again.

What.

And to do that you’re going to take away something society has become dependent on.

Couldn’t you, you know, just remove or block all of the jack in ports?

The man takes Lan’s PET, despite Lan’s protesting.

The man then gives Lan’s PET to the lady nearby.

Yeah, so they didn’t even bother to transfer Megaman over. Jerks.

Without Megaman, only an automated voice alerts us.

And we’ve lost most of the menu options too.

Oh well, at least this couldn’t possibly get wor-

*sigh*

Yeah, so Netopia is basically a combination of all of the countries of the West.

Lan realizes that man stole his money. How he did this when it was presumably digitally stored, er…

Well, let’s ask an NPC for help.

Okay, let’s try another one.

Oh God.

Meet our first Quiz person. Throughout the game there are certain NPCs who will ask you a number of questions. Answer them all and you get a prize. Get one wrong and you have to restart.

The questions never change though, so it’s easy to brute force it.

Douche, you know very well Megaman is actually Lan’s brother.

Seems Douche responds only to douchiness.

Megaman asks Lan what’s wrong.

Yeah, only 60k Z.

BULL.

This might be a problem.

So yeah, presumably that French guy from earlier was speaking French in Japanese. Yeah.

Japan’s view of the West is rather… disheartening.

The guy sics some viruses on us.

Anyways, Ribitta is here too, filming without a permit, much to her cameraman’s dismay.

LET’S DO TH-

OWOWOWOWOWOWFORGOTABOUTTHAT.

Toadman has been given a severe boost in speed and attack. This is quite possibly one of the most frustrating battles in the game.

Lan asks Megaman how they even get into town.

Megaman tells him he should look for a bus.

A man steps in and pushes Lan back.

The man asks where Lan is going.

Lan responds that he was going to take the bus.

Even Lan isn’t that stupid.

Megaman, on the other hand…

Lan gets pushed out the door.

The scene cuts to a castle. The camera then proceeds to pan over the entire area, showing a grass field and a river.

Welcome to Netopia Town. Seriously, it’s called that.

I think that was kind of obvious already.

Yeah, this “Electopian chips” business is completely nonsensical, since it’s the same virus type no matter where you are.

Lan is thrown out of the car.

It only gets worse from here.

You guys are getting a little over-eager with this "E-breaker" thing. Petty, comical theft requires a Teen rating? Not likely. The murder-by-siutcase-bomb is more debatable, but may get a pass because *graphically* it was just a fade-to-white.

Is there really any E breaker in this game? I guess that Yae thing may be a bit over the top, but besides that, nothing comes to mind.

He got thrown out of the car... I think that counts as mugging instead of comic theft.
Fade to black murder could count, but it depends on your own opinion there.

Alright, back from my trip.

Well, glad to see that such a common event isn’t mentioned in any travel guides.

I imagine we’ll be seeing this guy later.

Anyways, to the hotel. It’s downtown.

Naturally, this stuff gives up rarer chips.

Too bad WE DON’T HAVE ANY CHIPS.

I have no idea what he's complaining about.

Megaman notes that it’s been a pretty rough day.

Lan’s got a point here.

Megaman tells Lan that that wasn’t very nice. And really, it wasn’t. Lan should know pretty well that Hub honestly would love to live as a human.

This is a pretty big out of character moment for Lan, but honestly saying he’s had a rough day is an understatement.

Lan skates out of the room. If you go back and try and pick up Megaman…

What you’ll really want, though, is in the refrigerator.

Anyways, the place we’re heading to is that field. There we meet a familiar face.

The ACDC school theme kicks in at this point.

Higsby notes that it’s been a long time since he’s seen Lan, while Lan responds that he was worried when he saw Higsby’s chip shop close.

Higsby proclaims that Numberman is doing his part as well by scanning the Net.

Lan laughs that some things never change.

Higsby asks if something happened.

Higsby points out that Megaman and Lan have argued with each other before, but they were always the best of friends.

After a pause, Lan admits that Higsby is right.

Higsby asks if Lan is still angry.

And with that Higsby vanishes.

Megaman still doesn’t reply.

What, did Lan forget to lock the door?

Well that’s an odd thing to take. I mean, there’s all that money right there.

Ignoring the whole passport stolen thing, Lan asks Megaman if he’s okay.

Megaman muses that he deserved it for yelling at Lan.

The “backstreet” (actually the Underground) is this alleyway.

…Yeah. If you agree…
