Aaaand I just noticed that link in your first post.

Seems pretty interesting, but I don't really think it would go over too well. If it's constant battle, you're pretty much restricted to the Cyberworld, with thereal world being cutscene stuff.

And while they did that in Network Transmission/Battle Chip Challenge, it got boring, fast.

As a side note, the whole claiming territory thing makes me think of BN5's gimmick.

It could get pretty interesting with alternate uses of chips/PAs- say, Dash/GutsShoot being used to cross a gap (or just speed you up through the level), the interesting effects of certain chips that haven't shown up yet (AirHocky) when the bounce-back gets removed for clearing long formations of enemies...

Kind of surprised there isn't a Jump chip or NaviCustProg in the regular games that allowed you to move over a square regardless of consequence, being unattackable for that bit. Or just a short dodge, though it'd be too inferior to other defensive options then...

Well, if it's temporary invincibility you're looking for, Anti Damage does the job.

There's nothing that let's you move and be invincible at one though, Bug Style shenanigans aside. To be honest, it would probably be too abusable.

It was more an exercise of "How would one fit (lateral) jumping into Battle Network rules?" I guess it'd probably, in the proposed structure, be a program sort of like FFT "Jump+2" move ability.

...which brings my train of thought to "Megaman Battle Network Tactics"...

Also, Dex threw a boulder. That elevates him to, like, useful, cool levels, and makes him quite strong.

It also begs the question of where the hell did he find a spherical boulder that is just large enough to clog up Bubbleman/Desertman's tank.

Mistman, and another reason that White is easier than Blue. In fact, if it weren't for FolderBack, Blue would be completely outclassed in the chips&codes availability department.
Anyway, online walkthroughs tell me that Mistman has another attack: He can make poisonous smoke appear in your area of the field, and then two things happen: Touching the smoke will do damage, and being left or right of the smoke will cause that smoke puff to become Mistman and punch you.

Really? I thought it was suprisingly frustrating. And people complain about X3...Maybe you should LP it because I'm kinda confused on how I should approach the game (like a Classic game and speed through areas or a Battle Network game and grind for specific chips before going through areas).

Well, there are kinda stuff like that in the singleplayer mode. I mean honestly, how many enemies can really break Shadow?

To be certain, some of the boss fights were just ridiculous, and aura enemies could go right to hell, but in general Network Transmission was really fun.

As long as you knew that Mini Bomb and its variants were the most ridiculously overpowered chips ever anyways.

Yo-Yo enemies, Swordies, Devils, and some bosses are the only things I know of that can pierce Shadow directly, but pretty much everything else can just wait for it to fade.

Alright, it’s time for the finale.

Lan skates forward, passing around eight failed Pulse Transmission Systems.

Wily wryly notes that Lan has defeated the entirety of the resurrected WWW.

The screen scrolls around the area,

revealing the limp bodies of the WWW operators, who are now presumably brain dead.

Wily laughs that Lan is too late.

Wily explains that he will transmit Alpha worldwide from an antenna on top of Castle Wily.

Remember when I said that Wily had learned?

I wasn’t kidding.

Wily seats himself in the Pulse Transmission system behind him.

It’s actually kind of brilliant what Dr. Wily did here. He let Lan penetrate his entire fortress, even enter the final room. But in that final room, he has taken extensive steps to make sure that Lan can’t do anything as the world ends. There are no jack-in ports, no ways to climb up to where Wily is standing (EDIT: On second look, it actually does look like Lan could climb up there), there isn’t even anything to throw. And the only Pulse Transmission systems in the room are all broken or occupied.

Or at least, that’s how it was supposed to go.

Like how Wily planned out his scheme in excruciating detail prior to this game, Wily probably constructed Castle Wily during BN2. However, while he was building the place there were five high ranking members of the WWW, so he built five Pulse Transmission systems for each of them. So originally, Lan was to also face a fully synchronized Beastman on his way to the final room.

But near the end of his plan, Wily decided to execute Inukai in order to threaten the other four members into giving it their all.

This last minute decision has given Lan and Megaman an entrance into the Net.

Megaman solemnly points out Lan could end up like the WWW operators.

I’m pretty sure Lan is just trying to psyche himself up here. Dr. Cossak explicitly told him what would happen if a human using Pulse Transmission was deleted.

On the other hand, perhaps Lan guessed that, just like how deleted navis can have their remains retrieved for reconstruction, the data of the WWW operators was still somewhere in Castle Wily’s Net.

Man, I wish Dex would run over here with another Deux Ex Machina boulder and chuck it at Wily.

After a moment of contemplation, Megaman agrees. Lan seats himself in the Pulse Transmission system.

Yes, Lan just figured out how to use an incredible complicated piece of machinery in under ten seconds. Though admittingly Wily might have designed it to be idiot proof.

Lan observes the Pulse Transmission was a success.

You know, something about this whole Lan in the Cyberworld thing seems familiar.

Lan just connected the dots.

Megaman asks what’s wrong.

Lan and Megaman fully synchronize.

As is standard for final areas, it’s impossible to save.

Inside Alpha, there’s only two type of viruses: Slimey and Alpha Bug.

I’d like to point out that Megaman still has Giga Freeze. Don’t expect him to use it though. Then again, Lan might not be a Chosen One so maybe Megaman’s just playing it safe.

This is what the entire Net looked like during the Alpha Rebellion by the way.

Anyways, remember how Wily said he had only decrypted 80% of Alpha?

There’s a reason it was taking him so long.

Suspicious, Bass asks why Wily wants Bass to become stronger.

Bass states that Wily amuses him.

Once the screen returns to normal, Guardian has been completely destroyed.

Bass begins to flash blue as he absorbs the Guardian Core.

Megaman runs up.

So yeah, Dr. Wily realized that Lan could use Inukai’s Pulse Transmission System, but he just figured he wouldn’t be able to muster up the courage to do it. Or maybe he thought Lan would hesitate more. Meh.

Megaman shouts that humans are not as stupid as Bass is making them out to be. Bass responds that humans see navis as only tools to be used.

Megaman pleads for Bass to look back and remember how he used to trust Cossak.

Bass is the same as he was before, only now you can destroy his aura.

A task that is ridiculously simple since Reflect does 100 damage.

The Guardian Core, incidentally, is probably the reason Bass’s aura is now destroyable. As the first seal (though in this case it’s the final seal) on Alpha, it presumably acts as a destabilizer. To elaborate, while Alpha is the original internet, it’s only a threat in a concentrated form. What Guardian probably does is constantly monitor Alpha for any “clumps” and immediately break them up.

Getting to my point, when Bass absorbed Guardian he probably did get some power (the Guardian program is undoubtedly extremely powerful if it kept Alpha in check), but in the process Guardian recognized his aura as a “clump” of Bass and destabilized it. So now we can break it.

Of course, it’s just as likely that Megaman can break the aura now because he’s stronger or something.

Man, Wily really planned this out.

I’m confident that Megaman said something more severe in the original script.

The screen begins to rumble.

So presumably during Bass and Megaman’s fight, Alpha began to clump together.

The red goo surrounding Bass sinks into the floor.

Wily cackles.

So you know how genies tend to screw people over by taking their wishes literally?

The red goo surrounding Wily sinks into the floor.

The screen begins to rumble again.

The screen goes white.

If you’re wondering why we can fight the Internet‘s core, some people theorize it’s because Alpha is no longer the Internet. Well, it is, but it’s not the only Internet anymore. That… thing in front of Megaman is just how Alpha looks on the new Internet. Like how viruses, despite being pieces of code, are now distinct creatures that Navis can interact with, so are things like the Internet.

To put it another way, if Alpha was still the Net being used, Lan and Megaman would be screwed, but since he’s the former Internet being run on the current Internet, we can totally fight it.

Of course, this is all theory. Maybe Lan and Megaman can fight the Internet because why not.

Alpha actually appears piece-by-piece. First the claws, then the metal armor on top, then the red stuff.

Anyways, Alpha is a pain in the ass to fight if you have a crappy buster. Why? The red stuff is actually a barrier protecting Alpha’s core. To damage Alpha, you need to destroy the barrier, which will regenerate. Well, barriers. There are two total, but they don’t have much HP. In fact, one Wood charge shot is enough to completely destroy it.

Actually, Wood is the best Element for taking down Alpha since it hits repeatedly. Aqua is fast, but you’ll need to blast the barrier twice. The same goes for Heat, only the charge is slower. As for Elec… yeah, no.

Anyways, Alpha’s main attack involves swiping its two claws at you. The first attacks your column, the second attacks your row.

Alpha’s second attack has it sprout machine guns and open fire on Megaman’s panel. If Megaman moves, the bullets will follow him. This attack is one of the main things that can screw over a no-damage run, as Megaman basically needs total free movement in order to easily avoid it.

And this next move severely limits your movement range. It’s exactly what it looks like; a laser strikes the center panel of your rightmost row and releases miniature energy waves in a T-shaped radius that also crack your panels.

As a side note, while this move does completely screw over your side of the field, you can still dodge the machinegun as long as you have at least two panels. It’s just very annoying.

Area Grab is useless. And as you can see, if the target for the laser is a hole nothing happens.

Plantman doesn’t destroy the claws, but it does work extremely well against Alpha.

Anyways, once Alpha reaches about one-fourth HP, it’ll bust out two new moves.

The first one, Alpha Arm Omega, has Alpha form a giant missile and send it down the center row. Once it exits the field, your last two columns will blow up.

The second one, Alpha Arm Sigma, has Alpha form a gigantic needle and repeatedly blast your area with lightning, alternating between attacking the center row and the other two rows. It does this about five times in a row.

This move, incidentally, destroys Flashman folders, since as an Elec attack it does double on Ice. Alpha Werewolf would probably be completely destroyed since he’s an Aqua Element as well.

Dodging this move either requires perfect timing or an Invisible.

To be honest, the best way to dodge Alpha Arms Omega and Sigma is to just make sure Alpha never does it in the first place. It’s not too hard to chew through its last bit of HP, and it doesn‘t do them too often.

Anyways, reset time.

When Alpha’s HP is depleted, its core completely spazzes out for a second. Then

Megaman sighs in relief and exhaustion.

Alpha groans again and blows up completely in a tremendous flash of light. But once the light fades…

Megaman observes it looks like a door and wonders where it goes. He worries that it might lead to a deeper part of Alpha.

Megaman hesitantly agrees and walks into the door.

Presumably Lan and Megaman cancelled Full Synchro.

Image files are actual places in the Cyberworld? That’s… pretty awesome actually. I guess this explains why so many Cyber beings talk about real world things.

Megaman notes that he’s never seen the room before, yet it feels familiar.

Megaman runs forward. Lan quickly follows.

Lan takes a closer look.

Megaman and Lan immediately move to the center of the room and scan the area.

Megaman wonders who would have made a room inside of Alpha.

Lan and Megaman frantically look around the room. Megaman asks who the voice is.

A familiar face materializes in front of the two.

Tadashi’s surprised that his grandchildren defeated Alpha.

Tadashi asks what happened to Wily.

Tadashi sighs that if Wily had never gone astray, this never would have happened.

Tadashi explains that as Alpha’s creator, this is his duty.

Tadashi asks if humans and Net Navis are getting along.

Lan confirms. He adds that some people do use Navis for bad things, but he and Megaman stop them. Megaman agrees.

The room begins to shake.

Tadashi explains that people using the Pulse Transmission System can’t jack out; they have to return to where they pulsed in.

Once again, Lan tries to get Tadashi to come with him.

Lan decides to respect Tadashi’s wish to fade.

He does.

Tadashi tells the two to hurry.

Lan and Megaman fully synchronize and leave.

And with that, we return to the final area. Time to leave.

In a word, no.

The whole Full Synchro thing is not part of what Pulse Transmission is supposed to do. Wily just realized you could use Pulse Transmission to make Full Synchro easier.

Aside from that, Wave Changing requires areas of concentrated EM radiation (or at least it did, but by SF3 there's so much everywhere that you can do it anywhere), and doesn't require the full cooperation between EM being and human.

The two are kind of similar, yeah, but it's mostly just coincidental.

Alpha looks ...ok, vaguely similar to Omega from Megaman Zero 3. Omega's main attack is to send his two claws out which shoot ring-rays at you vertically and horizontally, one assigned to each.

Omega even has a core to expose in his chest.
