See, this is the kind of stuff I remember from the games I played. Not... that mess from the second game.

As far as I'm concerned, BN3 was the best in the series in all ways.
Sure, there are problems (Style grinding, Press, Energy Change, Mistman/Bowlman), but as soon as you enter post game most of that goes away. |

Lemme guess- Videoman is the other broken one for the multi hits, right?
Also, navicust is always fun... Especially with bugfix XD |

Gah, finals are in four days.
Megaman tells Lan to get to school before the others leave him behind. Lan walks up next to Dex. Dex and Mayl cheer. Yai whines. Ms. Mari tells the class that they’ll be representing ACDC, and as such should be on their best behavior. Dex and Mayl cheer again. Yai whines again. |

One of the NPCs ask where the zoo is.
Dex and Lan whine. This part of the game is pretty confusing. We’re given free control of Lan, so you’d expect to have to go around examining everything. Actually you just have to examine this fence. Anyways, while there are three jack-in spots we can access right now… Yeah, the Sub Pet is pretty worthless. Megaman wonders what’s behind the gate. This piques Lan’s interest, but before he can go further with his thoughts, he’s interrupted. This is very odd, since if you talk to Dex he’ll grumble that the hot spring is closed for cleaning. I guess the game expected you to take more time looking around. Here’s a great example of version color differences. White version’s hot spring is a milky white, and looks a lot more like something you’d want to bathe in. |

I love how they couldn’t be bothered to make a new pose for the other generic boy sprite. The screen fades to black. Then we get some mail. Lan guesses Yuichiro fixed the program. |

|

Yuichiro’s e-mail tells us he finished fixing the transmission program. With that, we get a Navi Customizer, the three basic starting programs (Under Shirt, Attack +1, and Charge +1), and an Extra Folder. Extra Folders replaced BN2’s Folder 3. Various NPCs will give out different ones. The thing about them… Is that they can not be edited. The sole reason for these things in a single player game is to fill out your library a bit more easily. Also you’re forced to use them during two parts of the game. In multiplayer, though, they can be used to even up the playing field. *sigh* Another tutorial. How it works is simple. But before I explain it, let me just rush through this tutorial. |

Apparently while Lan was listening to the tutorial everyone else woke up and left. The Navi Customizer is accessed from Megaman’s screen. The basic idea is very simple. You have to place the programs on the right of the screen onto the Memory Map on the rest of the screen. However, there are four rules. First off, most programs have to be placed so that a part of them is on the Command Line (those black lines in the third row from the top). Second, Plus Parts (programs with little boxes on them. They all affect Megaman’s basic parameters) must be placed so they’re never on top of the Command Line. Third, programs of the same color can not touch each other, even if they are different types. Fourth, you can only use certain color programs. What colors you are allowed to use depend on your Style (yes, Styles are still in this game). Anyways, if you disobey any of the first three rules… Megaman will become buggy. He’ll actually flicker and everything. If you go into battle like this, various things can happen to Megaman depending on what kind of program you glitched up, and in some cases how many of said type of program. Messing up one Buster stat program, for example, will cause Megaman to misfire the Megabuster (as in, you press B and nothing comes out) 25% of the time. Messing up two Buster stat programs will boost that up to 50%. Messing up three will change your Buster into a Guard (though you only get 15 uses per battle; then it goes back to 50% misfire). You can find the full list of glitches on Game FAQs. As you might note, our Memory Map is awfully small. This can be fixed with a Power Up called Expansion Memory, of which there are only two in the game. Anyways, BN3 may have been the first game with the Navi Customizer, but it had the best one of the entire series. Why? Aside from frankly incredible programs in actually manageable sizes, an item obtained later will allow you to customize and upgrade Megaman even more. And there are Compression Codes. If you hold Select while a non Plus Part Program is in this list and insert a certain button combo… The program will shrink one block. This means a lot more than you’d think. |

Anyways, if you do it right…
The second page will list the programs you have, from the left side of the Memory Map to the right side. Anyways, that TV I tried to jack into earlier had an Unlocker. It also has a special type of panel called Sand Panel. These things prevent Megaman for moving for a bit if he stands on them. They also make it impossible for a Quaker virus to use its shockwave if it lands on one. They also increase (I think double) the amount of damage a Tornado chip does. Aside from that, you can also encounter Mettaur 3’s here (though that might have been White only as well). The inn we’re in is called Ura Inn, or “Reverse” (I think) Inn. Take note of that. Anyways, I see a custom sprite. Let’s talk to her. Metalman is a gimmick boss. See those gears? They’ll constantly move through their row. If they hit you, you take damage (naturally they do no damage to Metalman). Aside from that, they restrict your movement, making it hard to dodge Metal Blade (basically a boomerang) if you’re unlucky or not using Invisible. The Gears can not be destroyed with anything that isn’t a Breaking attack. Metalman’s second (and last in this form) attack has him launch a series of missiles while standing still. If Metalman is stunned, this attack will be stopped. Metalman has Super Armor, incidentally. And no, if he hits himself with Metal Blade he won’t die. Reset time. |

Life Sword is as useful as ever, but this time there’s only one. Metalman’s chip is funny. When used, Metalman will appear and do the one attack he doesn’t have in his basic form: Metal Fist (or was it Metal Punch?). This will smash the panel in front for massive Breaking damage. If this sounds useless because of its range, you’d be wrong. If you hold A after you activate Metalman and quickly press the direction buttons… You can change where Metalman will stand where he punches. Be warned that you have a very short time limit. There are other chips that change if you hold A and input certain commands. And they’re nothing new; BN2 had them too. But they’re mostly useless except for a few. And I’ll be pointing out those few. Tamako’s booth had 900 Z and a PMD with a Snake D. And gears and Metal panels. Metal Panels have one shtick: they don’t break. That’s it. Okay, let’s get back to the others. |

Everyone else agrees. Inside this ticket machine is a RegUp1. Alright, time for a relaxing visit to the zoo! She’s not lying. If you examine any of the animal cages You’ll get a description that basically says they’re grumpy. Anyways… In other words… |

Another random jack in place! And one that’s a lot more mood dampening. Inside the lock was a PMD with a Geyser B. Jerk. Megaman is surprised they’re first for once. |

Yai notes they just have to wait for Dex and Chisao. Mayl tries to bring something to our attention, but Yai interrupts her to whine about how there are no monkeys. Mayl and Yai jump and move closer to Lan. Lan turns to look at the lion, then turns back to the girls. |

The three look around for a bit, then Lan skates off, only stopping to see Mayl states the obvious (“It’s Chisao!”) Chisao cries again. Faced with this dilemma, what will Lan’s friends do? Leave things up to Lan of course. That “we want to help too” thing last scenario? Gone. Lan tries to follow the condor but… Lan recoils in surprise while Mayl screams. Yai is too afraid to speak. Lan and co. proceed to rush off to find another way out. Next time: Stupid puzzles. Current Folder Cannon D x4 Air Shot 1 * x3 V-Gun D x2 Sword L Wide Sword L Long Sword L Shock Wave D x4 Yo-Yo1 D Guard * x4 Area Grab L Area Grab * Invisible * x3 Attack +10 * x2 Flashman F Flashman V3 F Total codes (not counting * code): 3 |

While most bugs are bad (HP Drain and HP Loss are pretty much useless outside of Muramasa, Buster Jam is just crap, Poison Panel Movement is plain old annoying and constantly moving up/down is fairly useless), you can actually do some really cool stuff with them.
One bug makes your Charge Shot possibly create a Rock Cube in front of you. Pump your charge up to 5, fill your folder with Air Shot, Punch, and Poltergeist, and go nuts. Another bug forces you to teleport to the other side of your area when you move. This can be used to dodge some attacks. Certain programs, when equipped correctly, attract certain elemental viruses. When glitched, they'll repulse said viruses. And there are four programs that automatically give you a bug even if you use them right. You can actually get a Style based on bugs that will randomly give you certain bugs throughout the fight. While it can give negative bugs (HP drain, always moving down, etc), it can give positive bugs too (invincible, maxed out buster, 10 chips to select from). Said Style is possibly one of the best in the game, if you're lucky enough. Said Style can also give you Bug Stopper, which stops all glitches and can not be bugged itself. |

I didn't know you could break Metal Mans gears until I dropped a Rockarm1 on one my fourth time through. I tried to drop one onto him. He moves and it hits the gear. I had another so I went ahead got rid of mine as well. I suck at avoiding the gears so that made it easy.

Gah, sorry this one took so long.
Everyone else is panicking, and animals are blocking the main way out. Thankfully, there are alternate paths. We can just walk around the monument though. Are you talking about those ticket things? Couldn’t you just climb over them? I’m sure the security wouldn’t care. I see nothing wrong with this reasoning. I’m no expert, but I doubt elephant waste is as long as a 5th grader is tall. |

I’m not going to even answer that. Megaman decides to alert the others. Lan skates up to the gate, presumably to climb over it, but the condor sweeps down and knocks him to his feet. Lan, not wounded at all from having a bird as big as him tackling him, gets up. Lan wonders what they can even do. Dex, Mayl and Yai jog over. |

Chisao starts to cry. Dex screams his name again.
Yai asks if he’s being attacked. That… what… how… GAH. |

This pathway is now “unlocked”. I still can’t see why we couldn’t go through it before. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it, but BN3 doesn’t have a jacking in animation; there’s just a fade to white and bam, you’re in the cyber world. This area’s puzzle is very… weird. There are viruses blocking us… And various programs scattered around in the areas before them. If we bring the correct program to the virus… The virus will explode. The first two make some sense (cat program eats mouse virus, snake program eats frog virus), but after that… |
#476
|
|||
|

It gets kind of morbid, really weird, and always end in explosions. New virus. Beetles are essentially Beetanks, only they eventually fire more than one bomb at a time. They drop Single/Double/Triple Bombs. |
#477
|
|||
|
|||
Eventually you have to deal with more than one virus. I’m fairly certain most of this makes sense in Japanese, since it has more words for sound effects. Anyways, it’s time to use my pokemon knowledge. Zangoose is based off a mongoose. Zangoose hates Seviper. Seviper evolves from Arbok. Arbok spelled backwards is Kobra. Therefore… |

Beastman can not blink. You know what this series needs? Random racism that is never brought up again! Lan’s stunned to hear that WWW is back. |

Beastman looks more like Slashman than Slashman.EXE. Anyways, he’s essentially a reaction time test. He’ll usually start by jumping on to your side of the field and slashing. He’ll either jump in front of you or behind you. His second move also has him jump onto your side of the field, only this time he diagonally rushes you. His final, low health move has him vanish for a bit. Then, his claws will diagonally rush you and then his head will fly at you. Later forms will do this multiple times in a row. The really annoying thing about Beastman is his speed; it’s fairly annoying trying to hit him with the chips that are accessible at the moment. Reset time! It took a bunch of resets but I finally managed to no damage run this jerk. The man (Takeo Inukai. I don’t think he ever introduces himself) realizes he should probably run. |
