Can’t you just order them online?

Oh hey, a BN2 reference.

These hints are so detailed I really do not understand how this guy could be having trouble finding these things.

So to complete this task, one would have to be both familiar with ACDC and good enough friends with the Ayanokoji family to enter their house. In other words, you’d have to be Lan.

No.

As a side note, this could be a reference to that really weird Mettaur Village chapter in the manga.

Way to go.

And the translators were doing so well.

Our man is in ACDC 2. Apparently “totally hyper” people rapidly walk back and forth.

Oh, so someone else is also taking this request. Well, I guess it is just data retrieval, like BN2 and BN3’s preliminaries.

So Mettaurs are nomads. There’s a Fire Emblem joke to be made there.

So the other request taker was just a treasure hunter?

Well that was easy.

I doubt all of the Mettaurs you deleted on the way to this corner were doing anything either.

So apparently Megaman is a virus’ rights activist now.

You’re not reading that wrong: it says Heal Navi. As you might have guessed, this is a pretty amazing typo of Heel Navi.

So viruses are sentient now. Guess that makes Megaman guilty of genocide.

I really have no idea why they put a question mark here, since ? and ! are nowhere near each other on a keyboard.

The man instructs Lan to go to Den Dome to take part in the finals, because apparently the preliminaries and the finals are going to happen on the same day.

I’m going to assume “Nice price juice” is a slogan.

I think this sign is supposed to say that the City Battle Tournament is at the top of the stairs.

What about the N1? You know, the tournament that happened a few weeks ago?

You can jack into the grill right next to her for a HP Memory.

Also, VulGears and Spikey 2s appear as rare encounters. They’re absurdly powerful though; one hit from that VulGear EX would delete Megaman.

Inside this vending machine is a Recover 50 S.

“Framework chairs”?

I have a theory that the preliminaries were already over when Lan got there. However, that man decided to take advantage of the situation to help out his friends by having Lan solve their problems as his preliminary round. This would presumably mean that the actual eighth contestant was kicked out for Lan.

Not much going on on my end.

We'll use this later.

Pairings.

My folder is the same as last time. I really ought to improve it, but it should do for now. I made my Areagrab be the regular chip.

Looks like a normal Heel Navi to me.

That’s not being presumptuous at all.

Either Lan is shouting out his assumptions at the top of his lungs or Tetsu has some amazing ears.

A long fade to black later and

What?

Hold up one second Lan, just what did you mean by that previous stateme-

This… what…

I’m… I’m just going to pretend this conversation never happened.

Too late.

I dunno, walk around? Like Megaman suggested?

Good thing there’s a hot dog store right next to Den Dome.

It’s hard to capture what just happened here, but basically the guy in the pink jacket purposefully moved in Lan’s way.

From colliding with a sixth grader.

Then use your other hand. Believe me, it’s not very hard.

And you figured this out by looking at the opposite arm from the one that was hit. Also, apparently you have X-Ray vision.

Lan angrily points out that Mr. Pink crashed into him.

I honestly can not even tell if this is a scam. That’s how random this scenario has been so far.

Never mind, definitely a scam. A really, really bad one, but a scam.

I somehow doubt that.

Mr. Bald points out that a grade schooler couldn’t possibly have that much money.

If this had happened a few weeks ago, Lan actually could have paid that much.

Mr. Bald agrees that 100,000 Z sounds reasonable and asks Lan to fork over the cash.

BN4 is correcting its own dialog errors now. My mind is full of fuck.

I wonder what the nearby NPCs think of this.

Mr. Bald demands to know who said that. He and Mr. Pink then look around for a bit.

How did he get up there?

Er, wouldn’t a fall from that height actually break some bones?

Anyways, a fade to black later and the fight is over.

Mr. Bald and Mr. Pink run away. Meanwhile, Tetsu asks if Lan is okay.

Even assuming “Tetsu” was supposed to be “You”, this is still a really awkward thing to say to the guy who just saved you.

Oh shoot, I think Tetsu got offended.

Or not.

Who wrote this?

Tetsu then alerts Lan he won’t hold back in their match. Lan responds he doesn’t have a problem with that.

That’s a random thing to announce.

And with another fade to black, we regain control of Lan.

So… now what? I guess I’ll press L and ask Megaman.

Why didn’t Lan do that before Tetsu left? Oh whatever, off to Elec Square.

But to get to Elec Town from Den Dome, you have to take the Metroline. And, well, you have to wait for those. In fact, Lan, Tetsu, Mr. Bald, and Mr. Pink probably all got on the same train. What I’m trying to say here is that this confrontation should have happened a lot earlier.

Anyways, Incident is playing (Count: 3).

Except for all the cars driving around.

Didn’t he already beat you in a fight?

Lan skates in.

So there are Officials posted in Elec Town but not in Den Dome?

Tetsu sighs that Lan is right.

Lan, do I need to remind you what your usual plan is to stop disasters?

Where the hell did that come from?

Okay, it looks like this is going to end peacefully.

What are you angry about?

Huh?

Mr. Bald and Mr. Pink are just as confused as I am. On the other hand, Tetsu is intrigued.

“Yeah, that is I am a master Net Battler, too”.

Lan sighs in relief, apparently happy that things have escalated from a ceasefire to a Net Battle.

Mr. Bald demands Tetsu to come to Town 3. He and Mr. Pink then strut away.

Huh?

Tetsu disappears with another fade to black, because apparently the sprite artists were too lazy to sprite Tetsu walking. Also, Incident stops.

Okay, what do I do now? Guess I should ask Megaman again.

I’m pretty certain Tetsu’s the kind of guy who wouldn’t accept help in fights, but sure.

Tetsu’s navi demands that the battle continue. He boasts he won’t stop until he’s defeated everyone.

The other purple Heel navis begin to roar as well.

Megaman rushes in.

Yeah, that’s pretty poor sportsmanship, but I guess that’s to be expected from thugs.

But you just said that wasn’t fai-

Oh, you were talking to Tetsu’s navi.

Tetsu’s navi groans and is forced to kneel.

Violence isn’t the answer huh?

Tetsu’s navi demands that Megaman leave, but Megaman ignores him.

Okay, I guess this will be two sets of three Heel navis. This shouldn’t be too hard.

Or it’ll just be six one on one fights.

Megaman hasn’t even hit you yet.

Each fight was one virus and one Heel Navi with an Area Grab.

Megaman shouts that it’s all over. The black Heel navi scoffs that the fight has only just begun.

I’m going to assume that was the other black Heel navi. Anyways, the two warp away.

The black Heel navi orders the crew of purple Heel navis to smash Megaman to bits.

Each battle was against three Heel navis.

I would like to note here that according to BN4, Megaman is quite capable of taking on a small squad of navis all by himself.

Megaman turns to see Tetsu’s navi walking over.

And by “walking”, I mean “inching”. Seriously, he takes quite a while.

Megaman attempts to protest, but he gets cut off.

Megaman gets out of the way.

Is the other black Heel navi incapable of speech or something?

The ensuing fight was so violent it had to be censored.

Something tells me this line wasn’t translated correctly.

I’d like to type something that could explain how confused I am, but I just can’t find the words.

Megaman points out Tetsu’s navi is heavily wounded.

All three of those lines would have been appropriate alone, but together they’re a mess.

Anyways, let’s finish this scenario. To the Den Dome.

Lan walks in, causing the crowd to begin cheering. He then skates to his position.

Did that chat really need six lines of dialog?

The hologram of Megaman and Tetsu’s navi is flickering a lot, so don’t be surprised if they suddenly disappear.

What, no BSD?

For all of the crap you have to go through to get things started, Tournament battles are pretty damn awesome. Not only is there a spiffy new animation/background, the music that plays, Battle Pressure, is pretty nice to listen to.

Tetsu’s Heal navi is slightly different from the 15 other Heel navis I just faced. First off, he obviously has more HP.

Instead of a Long Sword, he has a Fighter Sword.

Instead of a Single Bomb, he has a Cannon Ball. Only his Cannon Ball flies directly to your panel instead of going three panels forward.

Finally, at low health he’ll summon a virus.

Anyways, while I could easily beat this guy, there’s something I want to show.

As you can see, Megaman’s gone into Full Synchro without Countering. But why? Quite literally, it’s because of Random Full Synchro. As the name implies, every time you use a non-time freezing chip there’s a chance that Megaman will just randomly go into Full Synchro. This is a mechanic that can be heavily exploited with BN4’s two main multi-hit chip families.

Random Full Synchro (and its sister mechanic, Multiple Delete Full Synchro) is a part of Battle Network 4’s Karma system, which I will explain in detail later. All you really need to know right now is that the more Karma Megaman has, the more likely Random Full Synchro will happen. At max Karma (1000), it’s pretty much guaranteed Full Synchro every time you use a multiple hit attack.

Alright, let’s finish this.

The Zeta Cannon series has been replaced with the Giga Cannon series, which are pretty much worse than their Zeta counterparts in every way possible. Oh well, at least they look cool.

The crowd cheers and Lan fist pumps.

Tetsu doesn’t respond.

It seems the writers decided to recycle Tora’s speech.

Tetsu notes that he needs to train more. He then boasts that next time he’ll win for sure.

Tetsu laughs then faces away.

With another fade to black, Tetsu vanishes.

Anyways, you can jack into the Net Battle machine for a Spreader N.

Well, I happened to get Tetsu for my first round too. So here's a shot of the battle arena, which is (surprise!) red:

And here's a shot of the pairings:

That's right! Next time: The first real plot divergence!

Folder:
Cannon A x1
Cannon B x1
Cannon * x1
AirShot A x3
Guard1 A x4
HeatShot C x4
WideSht1 C x4
Sword S x1
WideSwrd S x4
LongSwrd S x1
Areagrab S x1 (REG)
Invis * x3
Atk+10 * x2

I figured, since this was so short, that I'll go on ahead and get some chips. I got enough to make the HeatSpread P.A. but decided not to spread my codes too much; I kept a quartet of WideSwords because these things are hella useful, found one Invis * in a GMD and got another from the trader, and that's pretty much all there is to say on the matter.
Also: I like Guard and none of you will take it away from me!

Or it could mean he’ll send Aqua viruses at you.

Then Lan gets an e-mail. Megaman volunteers to read it.

My reaction exactly.

Megaman laughs and assures Lan that a fortune can’t be trusted.

Megaman recommends they do something while waiting for the next match, because apparently this entire tournament will happen in one day.

Well that was a fast 180.

I’m going to take a wild guess and say that this is Aquaman’s operator.

What, did you repair the vending machine or something?

So you were cheering about successfully inserting money. That’s… interesting.

Shuko suddenly falls to one knee. Lan rushes over to check on her.

If bad luck at vending machines prophesizes a bad future, I’m going to end up dead in a ditch somewhere. Seriously, I’ve lost like $15 to my school’s vending machines this year alone.

Still, what kind of vending machine doesn’t give you anything if you don’t press a button in thirty seconds after paying?

Sad Rain starts to play. Unlike Hour of Fate, Vicinity of Sorrow and Wiping Tears though, Sad Rain is used a lot more frivolously.

Sounds like a normal day to me.

Wait, what?

I can only imagine how awkward it must be for Lan to just stand there listening to this.

I don’t think that’s how luck works.

What he said.

Sad Rain stops and Shuko jumps in shock.

Aquaman responds they’re probably in front of the Den Dome. Shuko prepares to run over there, but then she notices Lan’s presence.

Lan decides to just move out of the way.

No kidding.

Megaman points out she mentioned the name Aquaman. Lan guesses she’s his next opponent.

Well that’s rude. Aquaman’s pretty much Shuko’s pillar of support.

Er…

You got Shuko a new sister? Also, typo.

What, you’re going to browse orphanages?

Shuko’s surprised her brothers got a job just for her.

Oh, so all this time you were still talking about Aquaman.

You guys are cruel.

Aquaman freaks out at hearing that he’s going to be thrown away.

And I imagine hearing his operator say that isn’t helping.

Atsu and Ty wish Shuko luck. Shuko then runs off.

Wow, really? You were talking about a washing machine? Way to be vague.

Atsu then gets a phone call.

Ty asks what’s wrong.

This was so avoidable.

I’d like to point out that the fact that he’s asking this means that this has happened a lot.

I think that’s Lan’s cue. You know, what’s taking Lan so long to get out of the Den Dome, anyways?

I guess being overdramatic runs in the family. It’s not like one navi could flood the Net, especially seeing how there’s bottomless holes everywhere.

How is this going to help? Does it have a built-in Aquaman radar?

Okay, let’s go find Aquaman.

What.

I’m just going to ignore the sheer impossibility of this event in favor of what it means. When Flamman set the Net on fire in BN3, that naturally caused objects connected to the Net to overheat. So now that Aquaman’s flooded the Net, what’s going to happen?

I guess I should ask around.

Oh, great, nobody seems to care that the ENTIRE NET IS UNDERWATER.

Ugh, anyways that gauge over there represents Megaman’s oxygen. Because apparently he needs to breathe. When it empties, Megaman will start taking damage.

Now that the Net is underwater, Aqua viruses are everywhere.

This guy is pretty dedicated.

Aquaman is in Town 2.

Megaman tries to explain that Aquaman (very justifiably) misunderstood, but Aquaman doesn’t want to listen.

Aquaman swims off.
