Ugh… busy week. Still, here’s a new update.

Incidentally, since nobody said anything, I’m not going to be recording any more of the optional Request Board jobs.

There’s a broken toy robot we can jack in to here. I’d call it a Gundam, but I’m not sure. Inside was a RegUp1 and 3000 Z.

Anyways, there’s something new in Den 1.

Of course we can’t access them yet, but this will be very convenient.

Now, as you may remember…

We need an A License to go to foreign Nets.

Megaman recommends that Lan ignore Yumland and just try another country, but Lan isn’t having any of that.

Megaman’s surprised that Lan is so excited about research.

But before we do that, note that you can now face Gutsman V2.

He’s not kidding. Gutsman’s punch can now go down a row. He still does his normal punch if you’re standing in the front row though.

Speaking of that, he can now use one Areagrab. It’s pretty much random when he uses it unless you use one first.

I found out in this fight that Airman’s chip hits twice if you’re standing right in front of the target.

Once we enter the Center, we get an e-mail from Higsb- er, Unknown.

It explains to us how to use a Chip trader.

It’s pretty simple. Put in three chips, get one out. Since you can’t sell chips in this game, this is how you’re getting rid of excess stuff. Note the game autosaves every time you use it.

You’ll want to make sure you always keep at least three of every type of chip code though. Never know when you’ll need it.

Aside from that, there’s a new custom sprite in the room.

Say hello to Mr. Famous (seriously, that‘s his name). He appears in every game after this, and with only one exception always has a new navi for you to fight.

Among all of the Famous navis, Gateman is probably the easiest.

His main attack has him summon three destroyable soldiers out of his gate. These guys will chase you if you change rows, so you’ll need some fancy footwork to avoid them. Note they can’t cross holes though.

At low health he’ll summon a Remote Gate to block attacks. And if you line up with it for too long…

Even if you use Areagrab, the Remote Gate can still move on your panels.

At low health, he’ll also whip out his Gate Cannon. He’ll also do this at higher HP, but much more rarely.

Alright, reset time.

I spent most of this fight waiting for Gateman to go into the front row so I could nail him with a Sword.

Once he gets his Remote Gate set up, the whole battle becomes a rather ridiculous test of dexterity.

As a side note, I’m honestly annoyed with just how bad my folder is right now.

Alright, on with the plot.

The man asks to look at Lan’s PET.

The man gets Lan to promise not to tell anyone the problem.

This seems needlessly cruel.

Anyways, the first one is in that toy robot in the park. He sics three Spikey2s on you.

The second is in the School blackboard. He sends a Flamey2 and a Flamey3 virus at you. This fight, incidentally, is probably the hardest of the three since a Flamey3 can move. As such, most of your field will be holes.

And the third is in Dex’s GBA. He makes you fight three Handys.

Oh, right, we can now go to Koto Area (there‘s only 1). If you’re wondering why we couldn’t do it until now…

Yeah. Note that at this level Quickman can start off firing two Quick Boomerangs.

Also note that now you have even less time to counter attack him.

At low health Quickman V2 pulls out a new move.

Seriously? Fuck Quickman.

Quickman’s chip is just one Quick Boomerang. Naturally it can hit twice if the enemy isn’t at the far side of the field.

Its code makes it useless to me though.

Anyways, the BMD we can reach right now gives us a Long Sword L.

Yeah, you’ve got a ghost right outside really messing up your theme.

Koto Square’s got a pretty nifty shop. The person on the left is a Bug Frag trader.

Nothing really useful aside from that Attack +30 *. See that Zeus Hammer, though? If you use it, Megaman and the panel in front of him will both take 200 damage. So pretty useless.

Anyways, there’s also a Subchip dealer and a Net dealer behind the booth.

Oh, yes.

Moving on with the plot…

Okay, that’s that.

The man asks for Lan’s PET again. Lan nervously asks if he’s cleared.

Lan cheers.

The navi asks for Megaman’s name. Megaman complies.

The navi signs up Megaman so he can take a test whenever he wants now.

Anyways, you have to talk to the guy again after that.

Five battles later…

Gee, that was descriptive.

Anyways, the two navis are in Koto and Den 2.

This guy put me in a battle with Swordy, Swordy2, and Swordy3. I was promptly row locked (those things have like three Area Grabs each) and sliced apart. Still won though.

Seeing a pattern yet?

New virus! Sparkys slowly curve their way through the entire field. If they hit an obstacle, they’ll start orbiting it.

Lan cheers and declares that its time to go to Yumland and eat some food. Megaman reminds him that he has to do his project. Lan points out that he wouldn’t forget that, but then Megaman reminds Lan that he can’t eat food over the Net.

Lan has a solution to that though.

Megaman finally realizes why Lan has been so excited about the project. Lan assures Megaman he’ll do his research too.

There's a Netdealer here.

There’s some really useful stuff here for me: Cold Punch B and Rock Cube *. All Punch chips have the ability to push Rock Cubes down a row, and if a Rock Cube hits someone they’ll take 200 damage.

By the way, if you’re fighting an enemy that uses chips (Gutsman with Areagrab for example), and you use Catcher, the enemy will no longer be able to use chips.

The sole exception is Gateman, who can use Remote Gate anyways.

Also in Yum 1 was a PMD with a Bronze Fist S.

You don’t say.

In Yum 2 there’s another PMD.

Geyser is pretty nifty. Megaman will throw a bomb three panels ahead, and if it lands in a hole a geyser will burst out and the surrounding panels will take 200 damage.

Not using it though.

Navi +20 does exactly what you think. It’s an Attack+ chip only for Navi chips. Naturally, it’s a lot more useful for multi-hit ones.

Anyways, Yumland Area, despite the name, is just the path to Yumland’s Net. we’ll need to go through a warp in Yum 2 to get to where we want.

Once we do, a cutscene starts.

The King of Yumland gets his own custom sprite for some reason.

Shadowman deleted almost all of the navis of Yumland. That’s right, he committed freaking genocide.

Anyways, the King orders his companions to attack.

Unfortunately, Shadowman has back-up.

Yeah, I tried to get a good picture of these guys, but they attack really quickly.

You’re just now asking this?

Shadowman is awesome. In this game anyways.

And then we cut to Megaman.

Megaman asks if Lan heard that noise. Lan wonders if someone else is here, and orders Megaman to find where the noise is coming from.

Yum Square is completely desolate. There’s no music, no viruses, and no navis.

Lan tells Megaman to be careful.

Megaman asks the navi what happened. If you’re wondering why he asked that when the navi just said it aloud…

Yumland navis speak a different language.

Wow, this is one big typo. It should be “I came FROM Electopia”.

Megaman once again asks what happened.

Shadowman is very thorough.

Silly Cutman. Rock beats Scisso- wait, his name is Megaman now.

Cutman, thankfully, is just your standard boss. No stupid gimmicks like Toadman, Quickman or Gateman aside from two rocks to impede movement.

He’ll start off by summoning some scissors that will slowly move around your side of the field in a counter clockwise motion. It can’t be destroyed (though if it hits you it‘s gone), so you’ll just have to move.

If you’re in the front row he’ll use those head scissors. He’s surprisingly quick on the draw, so I don’t recommend trying to counter attack him.

And if you’re in the back he’ll throw a Rolling Cutter.

Reset time.

How convenient.

I doubt it. This guy never shows up again in the future games.

Megaman agrees and jacks out.

Wait, was the King of Yumland supposed to be the EXE version of King?

If you're wondering why it's a telegram instead of an e-mail, in this series it seems e-mail is delivered by Mr. Progs. And since Shadowman deleted all of them...

This shocks the NPC Official in the room.

No, really?

Yuichiro is an all-purpose scientist it seems.

He means Douche and like four guys in the Center.

Sadly, there guys are NPCs so they’re totally ineffectual. Who will save Electopia?

Lan of course.

So wait, did they kill off everyone in Yumland, or just the Navis, turning the physical Yumland into a desolate tech-less wasteland?

I'll be using Gater to explain Program Advances.

Obviously, my test dummy will be Airman V3.

I don't intend to make a folder around it though. Got to have some challenge.

We got some new mail.

Yuichiro’s set things up so Lan can use the elevator at the Center to visit him.

First things first though…

Cutman V2 can be found in Yum 2. Besides being faster, he can now summon two scissors on your side of the field at once.

As it turns out though, an Areagrab makes the battle significantly easier. Seriously: it renders the summoned scissors harmless and turns the whole battle into a game of dodge and counter.

Cutman’s chip is just his head scissors attack.

Aside from that…

Gutsman V3 is already up. The only real thing to note is that he now has one Recover 200. Oh, right, and he now has a move that can crack your entire field.

Yay.

Once we enter the Metro, we get another e-mail.

Retro Chip traders are interesting.

To use them, you have to link with Battle Network 1. You can then give up one chip from your BN1 game to get a random chip in BN2. The chip you‘ll get is randomly selected from the six chips you can buy at WWW Area 1, BN2‘s postgame section. Each Retro trader can only be used once, and there are four in total.

The Center is pretty packed.

I think we’ve found Gospel’s target.

Yuichiro’s lab is unchanged from BN1.

Aside from the Retro trader and this new hallway of course.

Lan confirms and asks if there’s anything he can do.

Lan declares he wants to help.

Lan asks where the program is.

Yuichiro asks Lan to promise him to run away if he encounters Gospel navis.

Yuichiro explains that the program he’s working on will enhance Megaman’s capabilities, making him more powerful.

So Google it. Or… whatever search engines they have in 20XX.

Yuichiro recommends that we check out the Square’s Board for information.

Inside the computer Yuichiro is working on is a RegUp2. And in the display board in the room through that hallway is a Bug Frag and an Aqua +40 *.

Anyways, to the Square!

The board we want is the Street Board.

Megaman notes that now they need to wait. Lan asks how they should pass the time. Megaman recommends gathering information in the Square.

In other words, talk to everyone.

He’s got a point here.

Ironman saves the day.

That’s just like Ironman to not care about little details like marriage.

Somebody’s whipped.

The man asks if Lan can go deliver the battery for her PET for him.

Obviously, Lan agrees.

We use the Metro to get to Okuden now, so I have no clue what the point of the bus ride was.

The woman suddenly recalls that an e-mail friend of hers once mentioned Chng.bat.

The woman tells us to look for a purple navi.

Let’s not ask why that navi had the key.

Chng.Bat looks like a PMD, but you don’t need Unlocker.

Incidentally, this place is called the Treasure Room.

Lan asks what happened.

Lan tries to jack out, but the security program blocks him. We’ll need to exit Yum Square before we can escape.

Anyways, now that the security system is up…

Holographic navis attack us. You’d think they’d have used this when Shadowman attacked.

Lan justifies it by saying it was for Electopia.

Lan explains what happened in Yum Square. Yuichiro decides to transfer the program back after he’s done with it.

Yuichiro asks for Lan’s PET.

Megaman agrees and braces himself.

Lan asks if Megaman is okay.

Yuichiro explains that Chng.Bat is like a seed.

Yuichiro notes that he has no idea when the “seed” will “sprout”, but when it does Megaman will gain a new power.

Lan thanks his father. Then…

Megaman tells Lan to hurry. Lan agrees.

As it turns out, every single one of the Officials in this room lost to the invading navis. Many of them note that they’re not as good as they used to be (some of them were in desk jobs before this). One of them will give you a free Fire Blade R.

Anyways, let’s head to the Squ-

It’s an emergency! This room directly links to the Square! WHY CAN I NOT GO IN?

So yeah, head back to ACDC.

Goofballs are annoying. First off, as long as they have that mask on they won’t take damage from non-Breaking element attacks.

When they do take their mask off, the panels surrounding them will be engulfed in poison mist that will sap your HP. And since they’re masks are still in front of them, you’ll either have to attack from the side or use a throwing attack. Or something like a Long Sword.

They also pack Areagrabs.

So yeah, I thought my folder was pretty much useless for taking these guys on, but turns out punched Rock Cubes go through their mask.

Lan tells his father to complete the weapon while Megaman repulses the invader. Yuichiro agrees.

Megaman tells Lan to stop staring and get to work.

Doing your job for you.
