The Mega(man) Battle Network LP!

The scene shifts to Lan, who has found himself in a very odd place.



Lan looks around for a bit and wonders if he’s in the Cyberworld.



“That”?

Suddenly, Megaman calls Lan’s name.



Megaman runs over.




Lan wants to know why.









Megaman runs away.





Lan screams.

Megaman notes that Lan doesn‘t look so good and asks if he‘s okay. Lan responds that it was just a nightmare.



A quick fade-to-black later, and Lan is fully dressed.






Next time: The stupidest segment of BN3. Oh, and lots of clarifying exposition.

Megaman sighs that the army showing up can only mean that the situation has gotten even more dangerous.



I find it very touching that Lan is blaming himself when it really was Megaman’s screw-up.

Lan resolves to do something.





With that, we regain control.



Haruka’s still at Yuichiro’s side.







Dex wonders just what’s going on.

For some reason, this trade reminded me of something I have to do.

After Lan talks to all three of his friends, he’ll get some mail from SciLab.




Oh come on, who’s been doing more work here? The Officials or Lan?



The e-mail requests that we meet Protoman in SciLab Square and get an Official Pass.




You’ll wait for us, eh? Good, because I have stuff to do.

The battle should have been much faster, but the candles kept turning green and Wood takes forever to charge at Charge 3.

Now then, off to the Undernet.









You know, why are these cubes here anyways? Did Dr. Wily somehow claim parts of the Undernet and give them to his subordinates?

Flamman’s cube opens up the path to Under 7, as well as a BMD with a Weapon Level +1 program.



Huh, Bubbleman Beta’s BMD is there now.

Before I go to Under 7, there’s two things left to do in Under 6.




Now I have all four Sub Memories.






Drillman’s new move has him open up three holes that send a barrage of drills down your rows. If you can guess which one Drillman’s in, you can hit him out of it.

I reset around eleven times trying to get a no damage battle (the drills move so fast the lag after a Wide Sword variant can get you hit). Amusingly enough, I only succeeded after I decided to stop trying.



More specifically, Hades Isle.



Drillman’s chip is interesting. First he’ll use his “rush down every row” attack. Then he and his drills will rocket up from under three random panels (though at least one of them will always have an enemy on it), then three rocks will drop on three more random panels.

Moving on, Under 7 is very odd. There are three paths you can take from the entrance, and all are blocked.



One by one way panels.




One by the Drillman Beta Security Cube.





And the last by a hungry Spikey.






Behind the Spikey (and the Drillman Beta cube) is a curtain that only Rank 1 can pass.

Yes, we’re going to fight Serenade in a Rankings match later.



Behind both obstacles is also a ramp leading to the upper level. There we can find the Hammer.

You can only open this door after beating Sorry, not telling.

Alright, back to the plot.






Sorry, but they’re going to be waiting for much longer.




Alright, there’s some more loose ends to tie up.




I think this is the only time in the entire game this sprite and its corresponding mugshot is used.

God I hate Punk. Probably would have gotten a 2 if it weren’t for Super Armor.





Man, you’d think he would have figured that out after Lan S-Ranked Gateman V3.

The only other thing to note about Yoka is that all of the animals in the Zoo have been transported to a safer place.

I think there’s only one Purple program in the game.













Another trade I can’t do.

I actually almost deleted him in under 10 seconds on my first try, but I screwed up (accidentally started the turn without completing Life Sword) and had to retry.










At Alpha and above, Bowlman starts to shoot gold pins. They have more HP and probably deal more damage.




Bowlman’s chip has him set up a row of pins between him and the closest enemy in his row. He’ll then throw a ball down the row, and any pins hit home in on random enemies.

It’s personally one of my favorite chips, but it’s pretty sub-par compared to Bubbleman or Protoman.







ANOTHER trade I can’t do.



Alright, finally got this. Now there’s only one more thing to do in Beach.

Or more specifically, Hades.





I’m not even going to bother getting the V2 chip.



Yay, a trade I can do.












So in order to stop the WWW, a net terrorist organization, from attacking, you’re using tanks in the real world. Tanks that were created by the leader of WWW for that matter.

Seriously though, what possible use could the tanks have? Do you just intend to shoot any malfunctioning electrical device?



Probably because he was ashamed to be associated with you morons.




Alright, I finally have access to this job. Its description simply tells us to go to Hades Isle.

The navi asks Megaman to find his tomes.





The navi tells us to search the Undernet.




Our first target is in Under Square.



7000 Z for the Land Tome.

After we pay him, the navi cheers that he’ll be able to earn back all of his losses. He then gives us some more information regarding the tomes.





Our next target is in Under 3. But before I go there, I need to get to a Chip Trader. I’ve got like 60 chips to dump in.



I didn’t really get anything of note besides a Bamboo Sword P and a Wood +30 *.

The navi’s surprised we want the book.




…Can I even face Bashers as random encounters yet? Guess I’ll have to postpone the completion of this job.



Wait, I have one? When did this happen?



Best not to look a gift horse in the mouth I guess.




Our last target is in Under 6.






We’re Rank 2. If we don’t have what it takes, nobody does. Well, I guess Serenade would, but still.

Alright, now that we have all three tomes, let’s go to



ACDC School.





Megaman explains that the markings on the tomes match up with markings on the statue.









I have no idea how you’re supposed to figure this out without a guide.

As a side note, the “Finding the blue Navi” job is the last attempt to defeat Megaman by those losers from the fight to participate in the Rankings matches. It’s really not very hard (just one battle), and you get a HP Memory for it.

Alright, I’ve kept the good people of SciLab waiting long enough.

Alright, back to the plot.





“As good as”?



Sir, you’re talking to the kid who personally stopped WWW a few months ago. I think he’s more than just a huge asset.

Lan gulps in either anticipation or nervousness.





In other words, it was the alpha version of the current Net. Seems whoever created it wasn’t very original with names.

As a side note, in Japan Alpha is called Proto. Whether or not that is a better name is up to you.

The scientist sighs that they’d thought that would be the end of it.




Lan points out that must have meant the Auto Navi wasn’t responsible.






Megaman’s amazed the Internet became self-aware.

And how exactly do you intend to delete the Internet?

An alarm goes off.




Wait, Auto Tanks? These things run on their own?

Even though you guys know that Alpha can seep into everything connected to the Net (which would be everything, pretty much), and that Wily intended to use it maliciously, you all still decided to send tanks that are computer controlled into every populated area in Electopia?

What the hell were you thinking?

Lan freaks out when he remembers that ACDC was occupied by Auto Tanks.




Oh yeah, you humans are going to be so effective against tanks.

Oh ye of little faith.



Berserk tank my rear end.



With what? I don’t think your dart skills are going to cut it here.



Wonder why Lan doesn’t even call them by name?




Lan tells Dex to leave it to him and get going.






Kind of a bad time for this.

Yai points out Lan’s saying he’ll deal with a tank.



Yai shrieks that she doesn’t like the sound of that.








The tank beeps again and releases a spray of bullets at Lan.



Who dodges all of them.

…Maybe they were warning shots?




Once again, Lan wonders what he should do.




The tank starts to beep once more.



Lan quickly sidesteps the shots.



…And the tank continues to just fire at the ground where he was.

And the tank is just going to let him do this?




Yay.




Lan urges Megaman to hurry up and delete the virus.



These guys are creepy. First off, they constantly regenerate health.



Second, they attack by pouncing on Megaman and rapidly draining him until he shakes them off. Avoiding them leaves a green hole on the target panel that you can not move on.




Lan marvels at the power of the virus and asks if Megaman is okay.






Lan’s confused that a virus would try to absorb Megaman.

Good question.

Lan jacks out Megaman, but before he can go anywhere Chaud and the scientist from earlier walk over.



Lan replies that he’s alright and asks how things are elsewhere.

Anyways, the information provided in this update actually clears up a lot of the issues regarding why Alpha wasn’t just deleted in the first place, why Giga Freeze is so powerful, and why a separate server and Net were created to deal with Alpha.

Normally I’d explain it to the best of my knowledge but this update is long enough. So I guess I’ll leave you guys to speculate.

Why take control of WMDs when you can have dinky tanks that fail to shoot side stepping teens.

Once again, this update would have been faster. However, I just decided to procrastinate. Also Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation is awesome.

Thankfully, Photobucket was very cooperative this time.

Now where were we?

The scientist gets a phone call.




Chaud asks what happened.

So they all basically said the same thing.

Huh, so he’s an Official, not a scientist. Man, you just can’t tell anymore.

The Official tells Chaud to follow him.




Oh and you do?



DoucheChaud and the Official leave.



Lan gets a phone call from Haruka.







Lan tells Haruka he’s on his way.




As a side note, almost all of the dialogue between Lan and Megaman when Lan gives a order looks like:

Lan: We have to do X Megaman!
Megaman: Roger!



WHY.



Hey, wasn’t that conductor saying Lan couldn’t do anything? Let’s see what he thinks now.

Well, he has his priorities straight I guess.








Lan asks if Haruka found Yuichiro.




Lan asks what she means by medication.





Way to go Yuichiro.





Lan points out they have no idea where he went.



Lan agrees and assures his mother he’ll find Yuichiro.

Lan notes that he found a letter. Megaman asks what it says.




This time Lan shouts that they need to find Yuichiro. And this time Megaman points out they have no idea where he is.



So SciLab.







I wonder how Yuichiro got in without the key. Maybe the one left behind was a spare…?

Anyways, Wiping Tears is playing.



Lan tells Yuichiro to get back to the hospital. Yuichiro responds that he can’t just lie in bed.

That’s… actually pretty smart. Once again, Yuichiro proves to be the only competent male adult in Lan’s life.

Well, besides Fred. And I guess Higsby has his moments too.



Lan recommends that they just leave it up to the Officials.






Yuichiro is silent for a bit.







This time Lan is silent for a bit.

“Tadashi”, incidentally, essentially means “Right”. So yeah, it’s a nod to the whole “Dr. L/Right” thing.




Yuichiro confirms and explains that that is why he must delete Alpha personally.








Someone’s underestimating Wily.

Yuichiro’s computer beeps.




The music stops as Yuichiro falls to his knees.






Yuichiro takes the pill and assures Lan he’ll be okay in a moment.

A quick fade to black later and Yuichiro is on his feet again.





I don’t think it gets more dangerous than Kotobuki. You know, the place that was so saturated in radiation that the real world and the cyber world started to fuse.



Lan adds that as long as he has Megaman, the two of them can do anything.









That doesn’t sound good.

Yuichiro explains that the “Demon Waters” are a section of the ocean known for its ferocity. He adds that it’s full of “Demon Currents”, spinning water currents strong enough to create… whirlwinds…

I wish I was making this up.




What.



I admit that airplanes would be useless, but didn’t you just finish saying how strong the currents are?
