Looking back, it seems me and my friend actually made the mistake of switching the King with the Queen.

Now it's slightly less humilating. Slightly.

You do realise that even in that bizarre situation that doesn't make sense, you could have blocked the check with your knight pawn, right?

Okay, okay, I get it, the loss wasn't really a real loss, it was only caused by the fact me and my friend did not understand the rules.

(I thought Knights could only move in L's with one two space row and one three space row) I can't read and I'm starting to think my friend suckered me.

Ah well, at least I learned something about chess from all of this.

Edited the original post.

He was talking about the knight pawn - pawn in front of the knight, who could've moved one space forward to block the check.

And as for shops in the previous updates:

Bugfrag shop in Yoka. Last chip there is a Mine A for 100 bugfrags. Only the Wood+30 is really notable here.

Beach Square shop.

Note that God Stone; it, along with the Rock Cubes you could purchase earlier gives you access to the Mom Quake Program Advance.

This drops about... 10 (?) 200 damage rocks on random places on the opponent's field.

Combine this with the Area Grab * you could buy earlier to arealock an opponent, and you can deal a solid 2000 damage to every area lockable boss in the game.

Yeah, great how out of the entire class four people came.

Yai? Not happening.

I like to think this is the old man who was part of WWW from BN 1.

Now he acts like he did in BN2.

And that’s it for the cheers. Let’s go to the ferry.

…Seriously?

This conversation is in no way foreshadowing. It’s just random.

Sunayama moans that he can’t stand amateurs.

Apparently there’s a Spain and an England somewhere in this world.

Megaman tells Lan to not keep everyone waiting.

Megaman screams Lan’s name a few times before realizing that it’s pointless.

Tora boasts that they’re all ready to go.

We are then given control of Lan, who for some reason has not entered the Demon’s Maw yet.

First off,

Our folder has been locked to the Hades Folder. To be blunt, it’s crap.

Second,

And third,

Though it says this you can’t jack in just yet.

Yasu asks us to follow his instructions closely.

Lan decides to cross over.

Megaman warns Lan to be careful.

We then get control of Lan.

Jeez, there are invisible barriers here. What was Lan worried about?

Yasu notes that everyone has the same folder.

Bonzu cuts in and asks what the rest of the rules are.

Megaman notes that this is like the first preliminary, except this time they’re timed.

Lan jacks in.

You’ll need Press to navigate most of Hades.

Momogras are gigantic pains. They attack by warping behind Megaman and hitting him with their shovel. Thing is, while they’re attacking is pretty much the only time you can hit them.

Thankfully, Hades Folder does provide Gutsman V2 and Gutsman to help deal with them.

They drop Mole chips, which are basically a weaker Popup.

Apparently Lan was really slow in jacking Megaman in, because according to the other Navis

Another navi notes that Q seemed to already know where the Victory Data would be.

Okay, this area is pretty annoying (mainly because damn near everything is Fire elemental) so I’m just going to sum up what you actually have to do.

Take the Press path northeast from the beginning and follow it until you get this.

Then take the other Press path near the beginning and follow it until you reach this door. You’ll find a forked Press path.

One side leads to this.

The other side leads to this.

I assume both Lan and Tora know that the losers are actually perfectly fine. Lan’s just shocked that they’re eliminated via a long fall.

Tora is just being a douche/showing off for the camera.

A wooden bridge appears in an animation that I accidentally turboed though. Sorry.

Lan and Megaman ponder the words: “Losers will be eliminated”. They decide that that means they’ll just have to win.

All four doors lead to the same battle. The only difference is the field. The “correct” choice, no matter your element, is the Amazon Pit.

Lan asks if Megaman is ready. Megaman confirms.

Special battle music plays during the N1.

The reason the Amazon Pit is the one you want is because the Hades Folder has a decent amount of Fire chips, and because you probably don’t have Float Shoes yet so the other three fields will bog you down.

While I’m here, I may as well explain Cardboard Immortality. Basically, if you’re a Wood element and you’re standing on a Grass panel, your HP will regenerate. If you have Undershirt installed, any attack that would have killed you just drops you down to 1 HP instead, unless you’re already at 1 HP.

Combined…

You’ll pretty much always be at 2 HP, rendering you immortal, unless the opponent uses a multi-hit/panel changing/Fire attack, that is.

Okay, reset time.

Oh yeah, at this level Metalman will start using his Metal Fist attack, either cracking the target panel (if you‘re standing on it) or turning it into a hole. Note that if you don’t Airshoes on, this can really ruin your attempts to dodge Metal Blade. Also, you can’t move for a bit after he actually punches.

Lan fist pumps.

Tamako wishes us luck.

Megaman wonders if Douche made it. Lan assures Megaman there’s no way Douche wouldn’t make it to the top 8.

Lan wonders what kind of chips will be in the folders.

Three minutes is way too long.

Especially since the “correct“ choice is right here.

All of the Extra Folder NPCs will talk on and on in an effort to waste time except for this guy.

N1 Folder C is a Snake folder.

While we wait, we may as well talk to everyone else.

This guy brags about how powerful his folder is.

The man reveals he accidentally put his checkbook instead of his folder into his PET. He then starts to laugh.

If you agree, he’ll talk about how he can’t wait to tell everyone he knows how Lan decided to use his folder.

N1 Folder B has a bunch of * chips, but it’s pretty useless.

This lady doesn’t even give you a folder. You can still talk to her, but she talks longer than anyone else.

I actually talked to her twice since I missed her wishing us luck the first time.

This guy just has trouble uploading the folder.

N1 Folder D is just a mess.

This guy will eventually give you back Hades Folder.

This kid will give you N1 Folder A if you solve his quiz. Normally I would, but I’m running out of time since I was constantly pressing Turbo. Guess I’ll have to restart.

The next question asked was what was the fake job of Beastman’s operator.

N1 Folder A is pretty meh considering you had to solve a quiz to get it.

On a normal play through I can get back here with 30 seconds to spare after talking to everyone. This is because you can mash B to get through the dialogue quickly, resulting in the hilarious implications that those NPCs were really talking that fast.

Lan’s relieved they’re at the last battle, and notes he’s all fired up.

Dex and Lan are surprised they’re paired up, but are both confident in their victory.

Yai brags about how her technique will bring her the win. Q just calls her a shrimp, much to Yai’s annoyance.

Tora tells Masa that his luck must be terrible to have been paired up with him. Masa responds that he’s been battling before Tora was born, and that he’s not going to lose.

Too bad Kingman is basically custom made to take Sharkman down, huh?

Douche notes that it’s nothing personal, but he has to win. Raoul shoots back that he has to win to protect the honor of his clan.

This is our first battle against Gutsman in a long while. He hasn’t changed though.

Your goal is to get a Snake chip as soon as possible, and to steal as much area as you can.

Then wait until Gutsman turns your entire field into holes

And completely destroy him. (if you don’t remember, Snake fires a Wood element snake out of every hole on your side of the field to hit an enemy on the field.)

Lan does another fist pump.

Yai then shrieks.

It’s never really stated, but Yai’s operating “technique” is simply rare chip spam. Without Yai, Glide is pretty useless.

Lan asks if Megaman noticed anything odd about the battle. You know, besides Yai jumping up and down screaming about her eyes.

Yasu declares that the top four have been decided.

Missed it, but Yai falls down a pit.

Well, my sleeping schedule is shot to hell now.

Lan points out Sunayama said to get on the ferry, so that’s what he’ll do.

Once we make it back, we receive some mail.

Whoops, forgot about this. Yuichiro sent us an e-mail before we went to Hades.

Well, that’s nice of hi-

Oh you have got to be kidding me. I forgot to get this?

This set-up pretty much ignores Shield’s features, but I really want to pound Tora into dust.

Here’s the Extra Code for Float Shoes by the way.

This guy introduces us to Error Codes. I’m not actually too sure who our bearded benefactor is, but I think it might be Fred.

And so have I.

I don’t know why she says this considering the Metalman we fought on Hades was also Alpha version.

And with this, we can finally access Yoka Area from real world Yoka. As long as we have Press installed anyways.

If my rival in a very important tournament came to get me so I wouldn’t be late for said tournament, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t insult them.

Speaking of Ribitta,

At this, Douche starts to walk over to DNN. He stops right next to Lan.

How is Lan’s reasoning weak? If you enter a tournament, or any test of skill for that matter, you may as well aim to win.

And it’s not like Douche’s “I’m going to win so my dad will be proud of me” is any better.

So you ask a guy a personal question and insult his answer, but when he asks you the same question you refuse to respond? Real classy there.

Douche strolls off.

Megaman agrees, but notes Douche seems a little different than usual. Lan responds that he didn’t notice anything out of the usual.

Ribitta alerts us that it’s almost time for the semi-finals and rushes off.

The crowd cheers.

Tora adds that the other three competitors all look like sissies and that Douche is the only one who looks like he’ll put up a fight.

Ribitta tries to weasel out a comment, but eventually gives up and moves on to Douche.

Tora whines that he wanted to fight Douche.

Suitably provoked, Lan turns to Tora.

Megaman warns Lan to calm down.

I dunno, I’ve turned a lot of battles in BN4-6 around with the x2 damage boost Anger gives.

Despite Tora’s talk earlier about how he was holding back…

He really wasn’t. Kingman is the same as he was back then.

Lan asks Tora what his opinion of Lan is now.

Lan asks if Tora still wants to fight.

So yeah, up till now Tora’s essentially been overcompensating to mask his surprise.
