Instead, they’re set encounters, like Alpha navis.

Once you defeat the viruses

Megaman notes the virus seems pretty tame.

After this, when we jack into the Virus Breeder

We can find the viruses in their areas.

Every time you feed the viruses you‘ll lose 5 Bug Frags. Once you’ve put a total of 100 Bug Frags into the viruses (you don’t have to feed all of them, just one), you can no longer put any more in.

What’s the point of this?

Virus chips summon their corresponding virus in front of you. Then the virus will rapidly scroll between all three types. When you press A, whichever one selected will attack.

This program will let you redistribute food, which affects attack power. Note that if you just let the virus chip scroll, eventually it will stop at the level one virus.

Each room (there are five in total) gives you hints as to what viruses you can tame.

Anyways, let’s go get all the ones we can at this point. In no particular order…

Mushies are found in SciLab 2.

Spikeys are in the Gargoyle at Hades Island.

Bunnies are found through a job that requires 50 Bug Frags to complete.

Killer Eyes are found in Principal Computer 1.

Momogas are found at the very end of Zoo Computer.

Those are all the ones I could remember off the top of my head. I had to check a guide for the next two.

Jellies are found in Beach 2, near the entrance to the path to Under 1.

And Swordies are found in Under 1.

Next time: Ranking Battles.

Current Folder

Air Shot 2 *
Spreader P x2
Sword L x3
Wide Sword L x2
Long Sword L x2
Fire Sword P x2
Bamboo Sword P x2
Step Sword L
Step Sword P
Guts Straight P
Guard * x2
Area Grab L x2
Invisible * x2
Attack +10 * x4
Wood +30 * x2
Hero Sword P
Full Custom *

Total codes (not counting * code): 2

Anyways, this scenario is pretty much the end of Lan and Douche’s character development throughout the series. Lan feels he must repent for his crime in a way that doesn’t involve moping and as such becomes both a lot more proactive and a lot more humble (barring BN4’s more WTF scenarios that is), which can especially be seen in BN6 where he point blank ignores the thanks for single-handedly stopping the Seaside Town disaster.

Meanwhile. Douche (again, it’s up to you guys if I should still call him that) finally accepts Lan as an equal and a friend. As such he becomes a lot less of a tightwad (though he‘s still chronically late), which can mainly be seen in his version of BN5.

Of course, it’s unknown if their characters were supposed to stay like that, seeing how BN 4-6 basically tossed most of BN 1-3’s connecting plot points into the trash.

I say stop calling him Douche. Only call him that when you have to fight him later.

I got my hands on Team Colonel and you're right about the chips being weak. I enjoyed it but there's no way I'm doing the postgame. I want to punch whoever created 5's Airshoes program. Its shape is ridiculous and you need it for the final boss.

I also support the removal of the title of Douche.

(The support of this LP is implicit, but this is here to state it anyway)

To be honest, the very first liberation mission of postgame is one big punch in the teeth.

There is literally only one valid monocoded folder that is easy to assemble and can get you through the game with little hassle. Hell, it's even good against Navis.

It is completely useless in the postgame liberation missions. Well, barring insane luck anyways.

But really, the worst part of it all is Nebula Gray Omega. He has 4000 HP. I don't think there's a single mono/dualcoded folder in the game that can possibly do that much damage.

Also, I recommend Body Pack over Air Shoes; still ridiculously huge, but more bang for the block.

In any case, as is tradition I'm throwing up a poll:

Still Douche: 2
No More Douche: 4

I have to say, though, that the very facts mentioned above make me like BN5 above all other BN games. In all other games, winning is trivial. Here, it's a challenge.

Voting for the removal of Douche. Not that he's nice enough to deserve a name, of course. He should be referred to as "Protoman's operator".

I'm going to be contrary and vote to keep Douche, mainly because I'm just not that familiar with the series and through reading the thread I'm used to seeing Douche attached to that character moreso than Chaud.

So, you guys have seen the absurdly broken FlashMan folder. You've also seen a nice, but fair, P-L coded sword folder. Here's a slightly different folder.

Heatshot B x3
VarSword B x1
MetaGel1 B x4
AirShot1 * x1
AirShot2 * x2
AirShot3 * x1
RockCube * x4
BeastMan v2 B x1
BeastMan v3 B x1
BubbleMan v1 B x1
BubbleMan v2 B x1
BubbleMan v3 B x1
BubbleMan v4 B x1
Atk+10 * x4
Aqua+30 * x2
Navi+20 x2

As for what it can do... Well, BeastMan uses BeastMan's desperation claw-claw-head attack, each version doing more damage. BubbleMan fires a bunch of shots straight forward, and while all version do the same damage per shot, each one fires more shots.
But hey - there's no better way to show you the power of this folder than to show how it fares against an opponent, right? Well - here's how this folder almost optimally plays out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkIA15Ftmlc

Admittedly, this was an opponent weak to water. But look how fast he went down, with just one strike - his HP barely managed to drop by 100 before deletion!

I dunno man.

That's folder's undeniably great against bosses (hell, that's Bubbleman's thing: the complete destruction of a single target), but it doesn't seem to have much utility beyond that.

See, the reason Flashman is so great is because he's easy to beat, easy to set up, has a Program Advance that goes wonderfully with his code, and he removes every trace of difficulty in the game because he works on viruses and bosses.

Same goes with a certain P coded Navi chip I am totally adding to my folder once I get it. (I'm not sure if anyone's noticed the LP joke I made with my folder codes incidentally).

Not only that, but it seems it kind of relies on your navi chips, with the others mainly being filler. Variable Sword and the good old Rock Cube + Air Shot combo are great, but they both flinch the target, which makes them pretty useless for guaranteeing Bubbleman hits and Beastman sweet spots.

This folder is totally usable, but I think you should wait until you have access to Fast Gauge or Full Custom (or Double Hero) before you try and make a Bubbleman folder.

EDIT: The sad thing is, Blue version has a chip that would be just perfect for your folder: Zap Ring 2 B.

Yeah, I wasn't planning on using it for anything other than bosses. The whole thing is meant to arealock and then combo without resorting to MomBomb. RockCube+Airshot is meant to help in arealocking, actually.

My normal folder is still Flashman :P

Lan laughs that thanks to Chaud he’s finally come to his senses.

Chaud starts things off by restating that the mission is extremely dangerous. Lan is unsure how to respond, but Megaman answers he’s fine with taking risks.

Seeing that Lan and Megaman are absolutely certain now, Chaud explains that an Official investigation into the Undernet has revealed that the Undernet has a ranking system.

Lan asks how he’s supposed to even become ranked in the first place. In response, Chaud admits that the Officials don’t actually know yet.

Lan sighs that he may as well just go to the Undernet and look around.

Another Story program. Yay.

How very convenient.

Yay, my NC is all screwed up again.

Anyways, let’s see Black Mind in action.

Before.

After.

With our cunning disguise, we can now infiltrate the Under Square.

The Under BBS remains the only BBS you’ll actually want to read.

These two guys are talking about something I don’t think we can actually see yet.

There are actually a lot of navis that have alternative dialogue if you have Black Mind equipped. It’s really nifty.

In case you were wondering, if we uninstall Black Mind in the Under Square

The NPCs will yell at/make fun of Megaman, but they won’t throw him out.

Ooo, Air Sword *.

Air Sword (later replaced by the Wind Racket chip) is essentially a super Air Shot with the range of a Wide Sword. As long as Megaman swings it in the front column, every enemy will be blown back to the back column.

Speaking of Air Shot, I’ve just noticed that I have no Rock Cube *s. Blasted version exclusive shop lists.

Anyways, behind the Net Dealer is another Simon Says person.

How unspectacular.

We need to talk to this guy and follow his instructions to advance the plot.

Megaman, you’ve only been there for like three seconds. Be a little more patient.

Then three Heel navis warp in.

Three more Heel navis warp in.

Four more Heel navis warp in.

The statue’s eyes light up while Megaman and Lan panic.

Lan asks the statue how they can get ranked.

A Heel navi asks if the statue is saying that if he beats everyone else, he’ll be able to challenge Rank 10.

The statue confirms, and adds that there are no rules.

All ten Heel navis warp out.

As soon as we warp back to Under 3

We find the first four losers.

Though we only talked to one of them, we actually have to fight all four of them. As you can see, each virus battle has at least one Omega virus in it. This is also the case for the other six, who will either set you up against two normal viruses and one Omega, or just two Omegas.

This may seem tough, but really, it isn’t. Only reason I took so much damage was because I messed up repeatedly while trying to Reflect the Shrimpy Omega’s Bubbler.

With that, the four navis warp out.

Considering the Officials made us fight 20 battles in a row last game, I don’t see what the problem is here.

Lan and Megaman are being overdramatic. The next six battles are all just find and defeat.

Oh, so that’s where the Flashman V3 cube was.

This guy is probably the toughest one out of all ten. Why?

Three Omega viruses. More importantly, an Omega Yort, who can basically chew through your HP.

Megaman explains he’s looking for someone named “S”.

During the battle, there was much lag. It was very annoying, especially since the virus I was up against used quick, non-flinching, multiple hit attacks.

Yeah, Ranks are actual objects. If you look at them in the Key Items box, you’ll see that they’re essentially little black placards/tickets (kind of hard to tell exactly how large they are).

Megaman and Lan cheer.

Megaman asks if Rank 10 knows S.

Rank 10 then gives Megaman a warning.

Rank 10 warps out.

Megaman wonders what they should do while Lan begins to worry. Then they get an e-mail.

Why would Roll be in there?

Lan’s known Mayl all of his life. There’s no way in hell he wouldn’t be able to pick up this is a trap.

*sigh*

Megaman notifies Lan that he doesn’t see Roll anywhere.

The four Heel navis from earlier warp in one by one.

Megaman realizes the e-mail was a fake.

I wonder how this guy even got Mayl’s e-mail address.

Dude, your impersonation sucked. You’re just lucky that Lan is a gullible moron who’s always ready to help people.

After a warning that this time things will be different, the four rush at us with a new animation that I unfortunately did not screen capture.

Amusingly enough, only the last of the four battles had an Omega virus (and it was a Trumpy Omega so it wasn‘t very threatening), so things were actually easier this time.

Megaman warns them that if they want more, he won’t hold back.

The four warp away.

Megaman wonders what they should do now. Lan reminds him they have to find S, but also notes that they don’t any leads.

Lan sighs that if they knew where Rank 9 was, they’d have a better chance.

It’s from Rank 10.

Man, are bad riddles mandatory or something?

Megaman wonders if they can trust the e-mail. Lan points out it‘s the only clue they have.

So I think you can all tell we’re heading for Hospital Computer.

What you probably didn’t guess is where in Hospital Computer we’re going to (or maybe you did; we got Hospital Code from a story event, so it‘s naturally suspicious). Still, I imagine that green NPC down there tells you how to get here if you talk to him.

Megaman introduces himself as Rank 10. Rank 9 asks if he’s come for a battle.

Rank 9 asks Megaman if he has any idea just how frightening S is. Megaman responds that he’s heard a little, but he has to meet him.

Megaman pleads for information.

Rank 9 repeats that he’s giving Megaman his rank. He admits he’s tired of the ranking system.

Megaman asks if it’s really okay to just hand over a rank.

Megaman thanks the former Rank 9.

You know, technically it should be 3Rednu.

Megaman thanks the former Rank 9 for the hint.

If for some reason you couldn’t figure it out, “Rednu3” backwards is 3 Under.

Battle cry?

Anyways, Rank 8 roars.

It’s called a back-up.

I wonder if my new folder can take down Beastman Beta as well as my Flashman folder could?

Oh wait, yeah, a Shield program totally nullifies everything but the desperation move.

I ended up deleting him with Reflect.

I don’t see why Megaman finds this so strange. In BN1 and BN NT, WWW completely controlled the Undernet (which is extremely odd given some of the details that will come to light in this game) and in BN2 there was the entire WWW Area.

Er, isn’t the whole point of the Forbidden Program the fact that it can stop Alpha?

With a final roar, Beastman jacks out. Megaman and Lan proceed to have a quick talk over WWW’s knowledge of the Forbidden Program.

Lan then notes that Rank 8, Beastman, ran away.

Megaman then spots something on the floor where Beastman was.

Wow, Beastman is such a klutz.

Megaman notes they just need to find Rank 7 now.

Suddenly, a Heel navi rushes over.

Megaman asks who the navi is.

Wow, that’s awfully nice of you.

I wonder where that could be.

Megaman turns to leave (I don’t know why he doesn’t just jack out).

I barely got a screen capture of the rush this time.

Amusingly enough, despite having just agreed on this, Lan and Megaman proceed to look for Rank 7 based off Rank 8’s hint.

You know, it’s really convenient all of the Ranked navis frequent places Lan goes to.

Oh God, don’t tell me I need to solve a quiz.

Oh, whew, fetch quest.

Megaman asks Lan what he should do.

Rank 7 observes that Lan is a very forceful operator. He then explains the quest.

So while common sense would tell you to check the zoo in Yoka, where we’re actually supposed to go is

Mamoru’s old hospital room.

I think the hint could have been better written as “One of many false birds”. Then again, this fetch quest would have been stupid no matter what to those without guides.

Megaman politely asks for the clue to Rank 6. Unfortunately, the former Rank 7 can’t recall.

Megaman urges the former Rank 7 to try harder.

Megaman sighs he’ll have to search on his own.

Megaman groans.

Then Lan gets some more mail.

Well, that’s both interesting (Lan’s the one getting challenged this time) and frightening (this guy can access Lan and Megaman’s personal information a little too easily) at the same time.

Lan points out that if they beat him, they’ll instantly go up four ranks.

I love how now its Lan that’s suspicious and Megaman that’s gung-ho.

Lan decides Megaman’s right. If they climb up the ladder faster, they can find S faster.

Before we head to Under 4, I need to mention something I forgot.

In Yoka Station, we can buy 500 Z chocolates.

Lan’s apparently a food critic in his free time.

Anyways, this is probably going to be a player’s main source of Number Trader codes. I’m not sure exactly how good the prizes these numbers give are though.

I hate how I have to keep on installing and uninstalling Press every time I go to the Undernet.

Anyways, because the Undernet feeds off the tears of confused gamers, to get to Under 4 we need to go to Under 2.

And talk to this guy, who will finally allow us past. No, Black Mind won’t get you through here earlier.

I’m not sure what’s up with this guy, since he isn’t Rank 3.

Under 4 is interesting in the fact that it has three different levels (one red, one blue, and one green) and a giant pillar in the center. Its BMDs held a Recover 200 N and a Speed +1 program.
