After he takes some damage, he’ll bury his vines underground and try to catch you in them. Note he’ll start moving again after the vine on your field moves around for a bit. Also note he’s totally open while burrowing his vines, and that he can be flinched out of it.

If you get caught, you’ll be immobilized for a while. Plantman will take this time to go into your row and hit you with a thorn barrage.

At low HP (probably around half actually), Plantman will form two flowers on your field.

If you stand next to the flowers, they’ll bloom and release pollen. The pink one will make Megaman confused, which in this game results in him moving in a random direction whenever you move him. The yellow one will paralyze Megaman.

Neither of these actually do any damage, but Plantman will take the opportunity to fire some more thorns at you.

Alright, reset time.

Ah Elemental Sonic Wave. Whatever would I do without you.

Besides Flashman spam anyways.

With that, Plantman blows up.

Megaman walks over to the machine and fixes it in approximately 1 second. No, seriously, he just walks over and says he’s done. What, was Plantman’s interference just a pop-up or something?

Megaman suddenly shouts in horror. Lan quickly asks what’s wrong.

Lan suddenly calls for the nurse, who is finally able to leave Mamoru’s room, and alerts her that they’ve fixed the program.

I found this part to be pretty clever. I mean, at first it seems weird, powering hospital machinery with some portable computer, but imagine how much power it must take to maintain something like a Navi. Then remember that Lan’s PET had to be custom-made to even contain Megaman.

Megaman raises his head and shakes it a bit.

The scene cuts to Mamoru’s hospital room.

Silently, the surgeon and the nurse exit the room.

Megaman cries for Lan to wake up.

After taking a look at Mamoru, the doctor comes to a conclusion.

Lan and Megaman are overjoyed at the news.

Scene shift!

Wily wryly notes that the person he’s talking to still despises humans. He then asks if mystery figure remembers their agreement.

In exchange for Wily giving the mystery figure the power to terrorize humans

The mystery figure responds with silence. Wily begins to laugh.

I hate the next scenario. Running all over the net is really annoying.

I got blue a few weeks ago and I'm missing my 3 Area Grab *. I love the
Anti Dmg program though. Wouldn't have beaten Bowlman on the first try without it.

As it turns out, I’m pretty mediocre at badminton. Oh well, if I don’t make the team I’ll have more free time.

Yai admits she still finds it hard to believe Dex is really gone.

Lan laughs that Dex is probably enjoying his new home.

Yai decides that Lan is right, then notes that if she really wanted to visit Dex

Ms. Mari walks over to the group.

I find Lan’s surprise at this pretty understandable. Lan has done all sorts of incredible actions and has saved all sorts of people, but he’s never been praised for it. But he saves one hospital and BAM! Commendation.

I actually think Mamoru’s family may have pulled some strings.

Mayl congratulates Lan while Yai notes it’s hard to get a commendation.

Lan begins to skate off (oddly enough, like Tora a few updates ago he heads towards Higsby’s shop rather than the metro), but Ms. Mari stops him.

Lan asks what’s wrong.

Ms. Mari explains that when she heard about the awards ceremony,

You’re two games too late.

Ms. Mari asks if Lan understands what she just said.

Once we get to SciLab Station, a familiar face catches our eye.

Fred modestly replies that he really didn’t do that much.

Lan asks if Fred works at SciLab.

Fred laughs and asks if he looks like a scientist.

Fred replies that he used to do some programming in his youth. He then changes the subject and notes that Lan should probably go do whatever he came to SciLab for.

Fred tells Lan to go.

Before I go to the ceremony, though, I have three new jobs to do.

One of them brought me to Yoka, and by proxy Mr. Famous, who has finally upgraded Punk.

Unfortunately for Punk…

Flashman pierces through his defenses.

I’ve given up trying to dodge Punk’s attacks. It’s not like he’ll ever drop anything of use.

In any case, by now I think I’ve established that Flashman + Ice Stage + Folder Back completely breaks the game in two.

So I’ve decided to create a new L-P coded folder with the intention of giving enemies slightly more of a chance.

Anyways, of the three new jobs this one is the most important. It’s not very complicated; you just need to beat a few virus battles.

Except every single one is a Omega virus. Omega, being the last letter of the Greek Alphabet, is obviously the highest enemy level possible and as such anything at its level will move very fast and deal exorbitant amounts of damage.

Our reward, Humor, changes Megaman’s L Button hint system into a randomly determined horrible joke. Incidentally, the program was created by Mr. Famous.

This, on the other hand, needs no explanation.

Anyways, there’s some new stuff to see at Beach Street.

Because of Anetta’s attack, the people of Beach want to cut down the Tree of Life. The hospital staff, though, are completely against this.

Isn’t it amusing that the actions of an eco-terrorist result in calls to cut down the city’s famous tree?

Aside from that, there’s an error code here.

And outside is this girl, who will give you a Spin Orange.

Alright, let’s go to Lan’s ceremony.

A scientist walks over.

So from this we can conclude that saving the world for no reason other than saving the world is less respectable than stopping a terrorist attack on a hospital because your friend’s going through surgery at the moment.

The scientist then reveals the hospital called them recently. Apparently Mamoru wants us to visit him. Lan resolves to do so immediately.

A bit late for that.

Scientist #2 turns to Lan and compliments him for saving so many lives.

I see no way calling an until now never complimented (or, to be more exact, never complimented by people he respects for an action that was solely his) 5th grader a hero could backfire in any way.

Megaman then notes they should probably start heading over to the hospital. Lan groans that he knows, and says farewell to Yuichiro. Before he leaves, though, he has one last thought.

That wasn’t suspicious at all.

Did Lan not tell them or something…? Actually, even if he didn’t, by now you’d think they’d realize that three Tetra Codes have been stolen.

As soon as he leaves the Virus Lab, Lan immediately pulls out his PET.

Lan boasts that the superhero of ACDC is ready for anything.

Lan laughs that Megaman’s wrong and that he can take on anyone. Lan then recognizes someone just off screen and rushes over for a confrontation.

Mr. Match snorts it’s been a while since they’ve last met.

Mr. Match proclaims that he’s now a model citizen.

Lan repeats Mr. Match’s statement in disbelief.

Mr. Match explains that after he left WWW, he decided to get his act straight and turn his life around.

Lan’s accusing attitude seems to imply that the Heatman battle was non-canonical.

Suddenly, a scientist enters the scene and calls Lan‘s name.

Mr. Match swears that he has nothing to do with the attack and reminds Lan that he should be stopping WWW. Megaman also agrees that Yoka 2 takes priority.

The “attack” is actually only two navis standing around.

Once we finish the second navi off, Mr. Match sends us an e-mail.

This time there are three navis.

Mr. Match sends us another e-mail after we finish.

Once the navi finishing exploding, Megaman wonders what WWW was even trying to do.

Megaman gasps as three heel navis warp in.

Yeah, I mean, full health and Shield style? I’ve got no chance.

The three navis begin to look around.

As a complete side note, there are two theories as to why Mr. Match has a different navi every time we see him. Either he just carries around Fireman, Heatman, and Flamman all the time, or only has one navi that he completely modifies every now and then.

The former theory explains why in BN4, BCC, and BN6 Fireman and Heatman pop up again, though it begs the question as to why Mr. Match needs three navis.

The latter theory is supported by the anime (Heatman was made by Mr. Famous from the remnants of Fireman’s data after Freezeman critically damaged him), but it doesn’t really explain the sudden downgrades to Fireman/Heatman in later games (though a later anime episode had Heatman being converted to Fireman to deal with Plantman).

The lead navi labels Mr. Match a traitor.

No really.

The navis explode, and Megaman walks up to Flamman.

Megaman then addresses Mr. Match, and notes that it seems he really has changed for the better.

Mr. Match laughs that he is an expert customizer.

Because thermal power exists in a digital world.

Mr. Match replies that he doesn’t need to be thanked in person and that as long as he and Lan are friends, he’ll be satisfied. He then notes that he needs to get back to work and jacks Flamman out.

Megaman then alerts Lan that he’s received more mail.

Megaman wonders if the e-mail was sent by mistake, but recommends they check it out anyways.

Let’s not.

I’ve got WWW gates to open.

All in all, I got a Panic C, a Custom Sword Z, a Prism Q, and I opened an alternate path to Beach 1.

Anyways, I’ll leave off with this conundrum.

OK, I'm having troubles with Battle Network 2. Any recommendations to make things easier for me? It's such a bitch after the easiness of BN1.

If you're having trouble, I recommend just changing your folder until you find something that works for you.

Or stumble through until you get to Netopia and construct a Gater folder.

With that said, what's your folder?

In the manga version, Torchman turns into falmeman with dark power, so its probably the same navi only recustomized.

Besides the obvious problem that is the manga's... questionable canonicity (not even getting into how bad the story is structured), and the fact that Dark Power didn't even exist in BN3 (and in BN4 Fireman with dark power is Fireman DS) that still doesn't explain why Match switches back to Fireman/Heatman in BN4/BN6, and why he has access to all three of his navis in BCC.

Late update, but I really have been busy. In exchange though, here’s a big update.

(To be honest, I would have uploaded this yesterday, but Photobucket took so long to upload everything I didn’t have time to do it).

So, remember that Tally we got from one of Tora’s jobs?

It lets us go through a warp in Beach 2 that leads to

A small corridor in Hades Island. Past the Press path…

Is the Undernet of BN3.

Quite frankly, the place looks like and is a complete mess of pathways, one way panels, and warps. Meanwhile, the background will flash red every now and then. And honestly, I think it’s all very fitting.

As normal, all the viruses we’ve seen before are here at higher levels.

Two of the things I really like about this incarnation of the Undernet are how the pathways are all crooked and how there are all of these hanging panels everywhere. You really get the feeling that this place was just cobbled together and that it hasn’t been repaired in a very long time.

Killer Eyes are… interesting. They’ll spend their time firing a targeting laser forward, occasionally switching to a diagonal view. If you ever stand in the panels they’re targeting…

The Killer Eye will fire a stunning beam of electricity that will pierce through Invisible and mercy invulnerability.

Killer Eyes drop the Sensor series of chips, which summon one of them to fire their targeting laser. They’re awesomely broken since they severely limit the movement area of the opponent.

The BMD in Under 1 we can access at this point holds 1200 Z.

Under 2 is so confusing the game provides actually an NPC to help you through.

Jelly’s are back from BN1, but they’ve changed. Instead of moving up and down their column, now they stay on one panel.

However, they’ll be constantly floating up and down, and naturally you can’t hit them while they’re above you.

They still drop the Element Wave series.

For now, we can’t go to Under 4 and beyond.

Like the postman said, to progress to Under 3 you have to go to an alternate part of Under 1.

Well that’s useless.

Anyways, then we need to go back to Under 2.

If only Megaman could just jump over.

Under 2 holds a RegUp2 and a Black Bomb 2 S, but we can’t reach the latter yet.

Under 3 is the first place Volcano viruses will appear. They’re pretty weird; they’ll move up and down their column, occasionally firing rocks at your panel. Any panel hit will be on fire for a few seconds afterwards. Also, if they move over a Lava panel, they will instantly recover all of their health.

Naturally, they always appear with Lava panels.

They drop Lava Cannon chips which increase in power the more Lava panels you have on your side of the field, if I recall correctly. Volcano3s will also give up Volcano chips (which are essentially Lava Cannon 4) as a Special Custom drop.

This random area with four large torches totally isn’t going to be an important part of the plot soon.

You know when it would have been nice to run into all of these Fire viruses? Last scenario.

Under 3 had a HPMemory and another BMD I can’t reach because

Plantman’s V3 security cube is blocking the way.

Anyways, this is literally all we can do in the Undernet at this point because

I find this pretty annoying, to be honest, but it does make sense.

Now then, we had a meeting at ACDC Square’s BBS if I recall correctly.

Megaman interrupts the Navi’s internal monologue to ask why he was called here.

There anyone else with that name?

What does danger even smell like? Actually, if you can smell danger there’s probably something toxic in the air.

Well gee, thanks for the advice Mr. Random Stranger (RS from now on).

With a final shout of “Farewell!”, the navi jacks out.

Lan notes that RS was a lot more suspicious than Mr. Match. He then adds that Mr. Match had mended his ways now.

Megaman decides Lan’s right. Lan then points out they’ve lost a lot of time, and that they have to get to the hospital.

But before that, NPC dialogue!

I honestly wonder just how much the kids of ACDC know of Lan’s exploits.

This trade has actually been open for a very long while. I think it’s easier to do in White version.

Oh great, another trade.

Alright, enough messing around.

Mamoru confirms that he’s been feeling a lot better lately and happily adds that the doctors say he can go home soon. Lan is ecstatic at the good news.

Mamoru reminds Lan that Lan saved his life, and with that the conversation ends.

Mr. Match walks over. Lan asks what he’s doing here.

And why would Lan know how to do it if you can’t?

You can practically see the manipulation.

I have no idea how Mamoru got the P-code for the Hospital’s computers, but I’m not complaining.

Fire Data? Does this have anything to do with that Heat Data from BN2?

Um… what would use this?

On the way to SciLab 1, I got another Style Change.

Well, I have been abusing Flashman lately.

But seriously, no.

Oh yeah, as a note, normally it’s impossible to get a new Style Change the same element as your own. However, recall that the Style the game gave me back in Bubbleman’s scenario was Aqua Custom.

See, the element of your next Style is randomly determined as soon as you accept a new Style. So until I finally accept a Style Change, I’ll keep on getting Wood Styles.

The implications of this scene kind of bug me.

With that, Mr. Match walks outside.

You’d think Lan or Megaman would be getting suspicious at this point, but I guess Lan’s pride (he made a promise and he is going to keep it!) and Megaman’s naivety (Mr. Match helped us so he must be a good guy now!) are getting in the way of their critical thinking.

What kind of vending machine makes drinks? Well, I mean, I have seen those automatic coffee makers, but the vending machine in SciLab is clearly one of those pay-and-dispense models.

Huh. I guess things are different in the future.
