At least I can do better against Gutsman this time.

Anyways, I can now access the Metroline for some reason.

Marine Harbor is pretty small.

Lots of stuff to do though.

Meet Ribbita. She’s a jerk in BN5, but here she‘s pretty much a typical reporter.

A reporter with a Netnavi.

Toadman is a MASSIVE pain in the rear end.

He spends the battle moving from lily pad to lily pad, and said pads are always moving left or right.

Toadman’s first attack has his lily pads send tadpoles at you.

Toadman’s second attack, Shocking Melody, sends a quick, homing, and stunning song note at you. If you get hit, as soon as Megaman is no longer paralyzed…

Toadman punches you in the face.

Anyways, the thing about Toadman is that if you line up with him, or fire a chip in the same row as him, he’ll jump to his other lily pad.

So you either have to use wide range chips, or just use fast chips like Shotgun.

Alternatively, wait for him to use his Shocking Melody, and if you’re certain you’re in a safe position from the music notes blast him in the face.

Note he’s weak to electricity, so Zap Rings are really nifty here.

A battle with Toadman is pretty long since hitting him is a pain, and all of his attacks but his punch do relatively little damage.

Got hit once by a tadpole while dodging a music note.

I think she forgot a “this”.

Anyways, Ribitta gives us a fee, in her own words.

We’ll be using that here.

Ribitta’s Van has a BMD with 1000 Z and a Elecsword E (100 damage wide sword with an Elec element. Would have been really useful against Toadman.)

It’s also got some new viruses.

Shrimpys move up and down their column until they line up with you. Then they fire off a bubble that goes down their row. If it hits something, the hit panel and the panel behind it get damaged. Upgraded forms change the radius.

They drop Bubbler chips, which do the same thing.

Shellgeeks don’t move. Every now and then they open up and fire arrows. However, once they fire their arrows they leave their shell open for a bit, so counter attack.

They drop *Insert Number*Needle chips, which fire off a number of little arrows.

Ribitta’s van links to Den 3.

And that’s how Security Cubes work.

Now, on with the plot!

As there is only one other possible place, Mayl must be in the Center. Probably to get a B License.

…Lan stopped WWW and the Zero Virus just recently. You seriously don’t remember him? Anyways, the man tells Lan that if he has a Z License he’ll be receiving an e-mail telling him about the B License test soon.

By the way, we can jack into a nearby coffee machine to find a RegUp1. You’ll also find some Fishy viruses, who are the same as in BN1.

Anyways, Mayl wasn’t at Marine Harbor, so I don’t know why the game even lets us go there right now.

Where is Mayl?

School.

The scene shifts to the park.

Lan agrees.

Megaman asks what they should do now.

Before Lan can answer, we get some e-mail.

The mail tells us to come to the Center in Marine Harbor in order to officially become city net battlers.

As soon as we arrive in Marine Harbor though, we get some more mail.

Wait, Lan didn’t tell him about the date change yet…

Man, what’s with all of the missing periods?

Anyways, now we can pass through that “B License and above” door, even though we don’t have a B License yet.

And there…

We find the Request Board. This place is pretty much side quest central, but we can‘t use it for now.

The man opens the door to the next room and orders us to jack in.

And then we get more mail.

Seriously, did Megaman fire off some e-mails while we weren’t looking?

Five virus battles later…

Okay, time to start looki-

Ffffffff-

GOD DAMN BIG TORNADOES (I got him down to 125 health).

Incidentally, in the Square you can now access the Boards.

There’s a Street Board, a Battle Board, a Virus Board, and a Chat Board.

Anyways, I didn’t find anyone in Den 1 or Den 2, so we need to get to Den 3. And the only way there is through Ribitta’s van.

Oh hey, a PMD.

YES.

In BN1 and BN2, you can use PowerUPs to slowly boost the power of the Megabuster. You should always boost them to max in the following order: Charge, Attack, Rapid.

Anyways, now that I have a Charge level 2, I can actually charge the Megabuster one level. It will do x5 damage, which certainly isn‘t worth the long charge time.

It’s still a long ways off, but the Buster’s time will come…

Oh would you look at that. Sadly, the guy only sells one.

Anyways, just down from this guy is the navi we want.

As soon as we accept, we get even more mail. It’s from Mayl, who has finished her homework and is ready to go.

The evil navi is in Den 2.

We’re thrown into a battle with three Beetanks, who are more annoying than hard.

Amusingly, Lan doesn’t change his L-button hint even after you complete the quest, which means he honestly thought that this was some isolated incident instead of his actual test.

It’s not, of course.

Another five round battle, but this time the Mets and Canondumbs are upgraded to level 2.

We also get a little something extra.

Megaman rejoices, and Lan congratulates him.

And then we get EVEN MORE MAIL. This time from… wait, what?

Damn it Megaman, you even sent an e-mail to Douche?

What a killjoy.

Anyways, the examiner navi tells us a little more about our B license.

…We were doing that already.

Did that too.

Something to shoot for I see.

Let’s check back in with Mr. Arrogant.

Speakingly, here’s a big old hint the game gives you.

I don’t think I’ve explained Program Advances yet… meh, I’ll do that later.

Anyways, the Request Board has some stuff open now.

Meh, might as well show one to you guys.

I accept the job, and head on over.

Amusingly enough, the requestor is one of Lan’s classmates.

So she’s either in ACDC or Marine Harbor, got it.

Hey, don’t put yourself down like that.

Marine Harbor it is.

Yeah, yeah.

You don’t seem to be a magical girl, so I doubt it. Then again, you are standing right next to the Center…

Okay.

6. Kids younger then the age of 6 or so can ride on the subway? Hello runaway XD

That's not E breaking.

First one is just normal RPG stuff, second is just normal Comic Mischief.

E Breaking would be swearing, sexual references, entirely too serious situations, and gore.

Also, yeah, Airman V3 likes/hates me.

Okay, I'm going to go on ahead and say it now:

I can't defeat Air Man.
No matter how I try to dodge all his tornadoes, he just kills me again.
And even though I can get behind him
It's no use. I try to fight, but I get blown away in the end.
I shoot as fast as I can,
But when I had to go against Air Man's tornado I was helpless again

Alright, FINALLY done putting in all of the [IMG] tags.

The scene shifts to Den Board. Protoman runs in.

Douche asks Protoman what’s wrong.

Douche orders Protoman to display it on his PET.

Protoman’s reply is silence.

Seriously Douche? Shouldn’t you at least save it and then send it to the higher ups first?

Anyways, Protoman does so.

It definitely is.

*sigh*

Scene shift!

Megaman continues to yell at Lan to wake up.

This grabs Lan’s attention and he quickly rouses.

Lan decides to get moving.

Then we get some mail from Dex.

Well, might as well say goodbye to Haruka.

Anyways, I guess the place we’re going to doesn’t have a Metro station, as Dex, Mayl, and Yai are waiting at the bus stop.

Yai then alerts the group that the bus has come.

Lan and Mayl cheer, while Yai tries to act mature.

A quick fade to black later and…

Dex, Mayl, and Yai proceed to walk into Lan, Golden Sun style, for some odd reason. Lan then starts trying to search, but he’s stopped by an unexpected sight.

The crap?

Mayl proceeds to interrupt from… wherever she is.

Oh like that’s going to wo-

Bwuh?

Dex butts in to remind the group that HE’s camp leader. He then tells them to stop fussing around and to get going.

And with that odd last noise, Douche leaves and we’re free to explore.

Okay, so there is a Metro station here. What was the point of the bus?

What happened to Sal?

Anyways…

Okuden’s music is straight out of Harvest Moon if you ask me.

In the next area we find a custom sprite.

The way forward is blocked. By bees.

Mayl asks what they should do. Yai notes that this path is the only way to the campsite.

*sigh*

Alright, let’s ask the NPCs.

Custom sprite guy tells us he can’t stand litterers, and that trash is everywhere on the ground.

Time to run around mashing A then.

We?

Yai asks which we should use, despite the fact it’s pretty obvious we can make a torch of sorts.

Brilliant, Dex. Brilliant.

Mayl tells Lan to be more careful.

…Lan gathered all the stuff and told Yai what they were going to do.

Looks like Mr. Environment is fine with us waving around a makeshift torch in a forest-filled valley.

You can jack in here to get a HPMemory.

Anyways, we can’t progress to the next area.

Douche apparently entered Lan while we weren’t looking.

…Yai isn’t wearing pants.

The bear roars again.

Anyways, Lan runs away.

Once again, time to run around smashing A.

Yai wants to take a look.

The bear roars again.

Dex notes that the bear doesn’t seem to move, but it could be programmed to attack.

Guess who it will be.

Inside the bear is a BMD with a RegUp1.

Anyways, the Mr. Prog inside explains the bear used to be for an amusement park, and was very popular with kids. But then, one day, everything changed.

What, nobody bothered to virus bust it?

Well, we’ll do that now.

Incidentally, BN2 was the first game to start seriously humanizing the navis and programs. As such, whenever we run into old or broken equipment, remember that there are sentient beings inside it who can no longer do anything for the rest of their lives.

It’s pretty creepy.

Spikeys move around four times before firing a Heat Shot, which works exactly like a Shrimpy’s Bubbler. They drop Heat Shot chips.

Mayl recommends they put it by the roadside in order to not scare other campers.

This guy blocks us from heading to the dam further down the river. He also gives us a free Bubble G for some reason.

For some reason, Ribitta’s here too.

…?

Oh.

The man tells Lan to follow his lead.

Alright, time to hand all of this stuff over.

Dex declares that it’s time to chow.

Mayl thinks Douche is food…?

Mayl reprimands Lan and asks him if he remembers what she said about being nice.

Mayl agrees.

Lan and Dex stuff their faces while Mayl and Yai gossip cheerfully.

Then an explosion sounds, and the screen shakes.

DAMN IT HARUKA JINXED US.

*sigh*

Anyways, Ribitta and her cameraman are excited about this sudden turn of events, while custom sprite guy warns us that the dam will collapse if another bomb goes off, so we should run.

By the way, you can jack into the barbeque grill on the right.

Inside are two BMDs with a MiniEnergy and a Bubbler R.

New virus too.

If you line up with a Flamey, it will rocket up off the screen. It will then crash down on the first panel of its row on your side, breaking it, then it rise up through the panel to the left, also breaking it, and so on until it attacks the entire row and breaks every single panel.

Aside from that really simple yet hard to describe attack, Flameys float up and down, and they’re immune to damage while floating up.

Well, now we know where Douche is.

…I guess I kind of understand Lan’s reasoning, but still, what?

Then we get a phonecall from Douche.

In order to fit the text inside the dialog boxes, the translators did some really weird stuff to spelling and formatting.

Presumably he’s talking about the parts of the message board post we didn’t get to see.

Lan tells Douche to open the door so he can help.

Douche tells him to calm down, because he needs Lan to do something else.

Douche asks Lan if he thinks he’s up to it.

…What?

Anyways, once we return to the main camp site we get mail from Douche.

Megaman notes that he can also feel a strong virus.

Anyways, this dungeon has a gimmick. If you try to jack out…

You can’t.

This means you can not restore health outside of Recovery chips in battle, or Sub chips.

So either avoid battles or avoid hits.

Anyways, we need to find all of the control programs, which takes some searching, though the Mr. Progs do give hints.

Also, the path will explode at certain points, so you’ll need to find alternate paths.

After we do this, we can jack out and head to the other detonators, which are here

And here

Note in this area some Blackbombs will sometimes appear on the field. If they are hit with a fire attack, the side it’s one will go up in flames.

I’ll just list all of the BMDs in the three detonators here: 500 Z, a Cannon C, a PanelGrab L, 1500Z, a RegUp2, 600 Z, a HPMemory, and a WideSword L.

At the third bomb, Douche will give us a call. Lan asks how the situation is, and Douche tells him not to worry about that.

Well, there’s only one other guy with a custom sprite.

Not the hardest interrogation.

Say hello to “Speedy” Dave.

Throughout the BN series, we’ll see a few environmentalists. Of them all, Sal is the only one who is not completely insane.

Dave boasts that nobody can defeat him and Quickman. Lan takes that as a challenge.

Dave’s PET is the same as all of the other detonator programs.

New virus! Mettfires move around the battlefield for a bit before crouching and slowly dropping asteroids on your position. Since they’re completely helpless while doing this, they always appear with either an obstacle or another enemy to hide under. They drop Asteroid*Insert number* chips, which summon a little staff in front of Megaman. Unless the staff is destroyed, a certain number of asteroids will fall on the enemy field.

They’re fire elemental by the way.

BMDs are: Recover50 N, a PowerUp,

a Bug Frag, an Attack +10 *, and 3000 Z.

Canonically, Megaman has already encountered Quickman during the Zero Virus incident, which was about a few weeks ago. Don’t expect them to mention that.

Quickman is about to rush away, when Dave stops him and reminds him that he’s just facing kids.

Quickman is a tremendous pain in the ass. Why?

Because you can’t attack him when he’s not attacking. Even time freezing attacks won’t work.

And just to be an ass, Quickman spends most of his time standing still.

Until he moves, and when he does so he will flash around the screen like a spastic monkey.

Note you can make him move faster by repeatedly firing the buster at him. He’ll block all of the shots, but it’ll make him move.

Once he stops moving, he’ll fire off his only attack: Quick Boomerang. He’s open for a short while after throwing one.

At low health he’ll fire two in a row.

So yeah, this battle can be pretty boring.

This oddly well thought out. Four detonator programs, and if any of them are destroyed the bomb automatically goes off.

Then again, if Dave is so intent on dying, shouldn’t he have just blown up both bombs right away?

With one last witty comment (“My life’s been good and quick!”) Quickman counts down from 3, and the screen goes white while Lan shouts Megaman’s name.

…Why wouldn’t he be?

Anyways, Lan responds.

Wait… if you already turned off the bomb, what was the point of even having Protoman attack the already dying navi?

Suspicion?

*groan*

Still, Douche almost seem worried for Lan there. Maybe he’s chang-
