Really, you’d think Megaman or Lan would notice that two of the three programs had no idea this was supposed to happen.

You’ll burn?

But… you’re a program. How would you know what that feels like?

Nothing strange here!

Mr. Match asks if Lan is too good for thanks now.

Lan declares that he’s going to leave now. Mr. Match replies he has one last thing to do, and that he’ll see Lan later.

With that, Lan skates off.

Well, time to go home.

The scene cuts to two SciLab employees chatting.

The other man wonders if the air conditioner is broken.

The two men begin to look around. Meanwhile, the screen centers on the vending machine.

The two men walk over to the machine.

The other man decides to jack in and find the problem. His companion warns him to be careful.

Suddenly, the two jump.

The duo run away to the Virus Lab.

Two more scientists run over. One of them shouts they have to evacuate; for some reason the computers started smoking. Then the heat got into the air duct and proceeded to spread around the entire building.

I’m pretty sure heat alone isn’t going to cause an explosion, but these are Battle Network computers. Hell, they probably run on explosions.

The man wonders what they can do to help. In response, the other scientist sadly states that they can’t do anything; they can’t even get close enough to jack in.

The scene changes to Yuichiro’s lab.

The aide walks over and asks if Yuichiro is saying this wasn’t an accident.

Yuichiro tells the aide to escape.

Yuichiro quickly explains that if SciLab is destroyed, all of Electopia will be in chaos. Yuichiro declares that he must do everything in his power to stop that from happening.

Wordlessly, the aide returns to his computer.

With that, two other scientists run in.

The female points out that the more people working, the faster things will go.

The scene changes to Lan’s room.

Megaman notes it’s an emergency news flash. He reads it, then begins to panic.

Lan asks what’s wrong.

Lan yells that they have to get to SciLab. Megaman agrees.

That seems like a really bad idea.

Er…

The man recognizes Lan, but before he can say anything Lan desperately asks where Yuichiro is.

Lan asks why nobody has gone to save him. The man responds that they would love to, but it’s gotten so hot they can’t even send a rescue team. Because while the future has super powerful radiation suits, they’ve got nothing for too much heat.

Lan gets a phone call.

The sheer dickery of Mr. Match’s plan is amazing. He didn’t have to get Lan involved; the meeting at SciLab lasted long enough he could have done everything by himself. Hell, getting Lan to do his work for him was actually a massive risk.

But he did it anyways just to make Lan suffer.

I love how the guy standing right behind Lan isn’t saying anything.

Mr. Match begins to laugh uncontrollably, and adds that he didn’t think Lan was that much of a sucker. He then asks if Lan knows why those WWW navis appeared earlier in this scenario.

Lan begins to growl.

Calming down, Mr, Match asks if Lan wants to play a game.

Megaman angrily notes they don’t have a choice.

While Flamman does his thing, Lan wonders how they’ll put out the fires.

After that, we get an e-mail.

Two of the NPCs will actually show you the scale of this disaster.

See, EVERYTHING is connected to the Net. So if the Net is on fire, everything burns.

In fact, everyone in Yoka has evacuated to the creek near the inn.

Meanwhile, pretty much everyone in Beach is panicking, with the people at the hospital wondering if they’re cursed or something.

It’s actually amazing how much detail was put into this scenario; many place descriptions have been changed.

Anyways, time to get to work stopping this crisis.

And that’s it. Note that like in Plantman’s scenario, some of the flames will drop some Bubble Side F chips for you to use, and others will force you into virus encounters.

I’m just going to skip through this part; basically, you need to go to every single area and look all over the place to find the fires. You’ll know you’re done with an area group when Mr. Match gives you a call.

It’s annoying, but it does kind of give the feel that the whole Net is in danger.

Two notable highlights.

Flashman Beta (thank God he‘s the only Beta navi right now that appears without restrictions in a place I‘ll actually go through),

And having to install Press AND Energy Change.

Lan shouts he’s going to make Mr. Match pay.

As soon as we enter Under 3, the screen pixelizes for a second.

Megaman begins to look around. Lan asks if something’s wrong.

Lan asks if it’s Flamman.

Lan wonders what it could be, but notes they don’t have the time to find out. Megaman shakily agrees, and runs off. But as soon as he walks off-screen…

So I think you can guess where in Under 3 Flamman is. But on the path there, we get interrupted.

Megaman realizes that if he had taken one more step, he would have been a goner.

Sorry for the long pause between update segments; I had school.

Lan notes they’ll have to go back the way they came and find another route. Megaman agrees.

Weren’t there a lot of those last game?

Lan wonders what the incredible force could be. Megaman answers that he hasn’t got a clue and admits that he has no idea what will happen next.

Once again, as soon as Megaman runs off-screen

The only other path is blocked.

Bashers are interesting. They’ll slowly scan your entire field one column at a time. If you stand in one of their targets, they’ll blast the entire column, breaking every panel but the one you’re standing in. They drop Magnum chips.

Megaman explains that he’s felt like he’s been watched the entire time. Lan’s creeped out at this news, but once again decides that it doesn’t matter: SciLab is more important.

And once again, as soon as Megaman goes off-screen

This doesn’t actually make any sense, incidentally. RS was actually near our destination back at the quake. The only way he could end up behind us now is if he just decided to walk back during our battle with that Heel Navi.

Lan replies they don’t need an invitation.

Flamman is a pain in the ass normally, and being Wood Style only makes it worse.

Those candles in his back column will constantly be on fire. Their effect depends on the color.

Green makes Flamman invincible (though it takes a second for it to start). The candles always start at this.

Orange causes two flames to circle around Megaman’s area, and Red steadily regenerates Flamman’s HP.

Each candle flame has 10 HP, but if you put it out it’ll come back as a different color.

Really, you’ll want to keep the flames at Red if possible. If you can get an Area Grab, though, Orange is also acceptable since the flames only circle Megaman’s original 3 x 3 area.

Aside from that, Flamman only has two attacks. He’ll either line up with you and breath a Fire Pillar down your row.

(This is kind of a bad picture, but the move doesn't hit the entire field at once)

Or he’ll set your entire field on fire barring two panels. He’ll only do this attack at low HP though.

Okay, reset time.

Battle went pretty well, but I accidentally lost my Area Grab, so one of the Orange candle flames grazed me.

Flamman doesn’t blink, but that may be because his face is just a mask.

Mr. Match laughs that Flamman won’t go down so easily and orders his navi to incinerate Megaman.

Hah, this is such a big typo.

The screen begins to pixelize again.

Mr. Match asks Flamman what he’s looking at, reminding him that this is his chance to finish Megaman off. Flamman only gives a few wrahs in response, causing Mr. Match to ask what’s wrong.

Megaman alerts Lan that something is coming.

The screen begins to shake as Bass floats in.

Hey Bass, how are you doing?

Mr. Match orders Flamman to deal with Bass first.

Mr. Match stammers that this can’t be happening.

So once again, it’s hard to tell if he just customized Heatman or made Flamman from scratch.

Mr. Match groans he’ll have to make a strategic retreat.

Er, we fought him last game.

You know, either the WWW Area was non-canon (this is probably the case) or this is a Doom Bot Copy Bass.

As you can see, Bass’ aura does not have a number attached to it. In other words, it’s unbreakable.

In fact, this battle is impossible to win, so I’ll just go over some nifty things about it.

First off, despite the fact that this is canonically the real Bass, he uses the Copy Bass move list.

Second, in this battle Bass can bypass Cardboard Invulnerability.

I’ve probably already explained this, but I’ll say it again. Wood Styles auto-regenerate health on Grass panels. Undershirt prevents you from dying as long as your HP is above 1. Combined, you’re effectively invulnerable to anything without a Fire, field changing, or time freezing attack.

Third, the designers realized that trading can get you some powerful chips much earlier than you’re supposed to, so North Wind (a chip that removes all Barriers and Auras)

Does nothing.

In fact, he’s even immune to Poison, which normally seeps through all defenses.

However, the designers overlooked one thing.

Well, I guess you can’t really say they “overlooked” this, since it’s impossible to get Balance at this point no matter what (requires the star you get for beating the game, and you can’t trade Giga chips)

Repeated use of Balance (the chip halves yours and the opponent’s HP) can drop Bass to 1 HP, but obviously you can’t go beyond that.

Finally, using the Press Select For Instant Delete code (anyone know why it’s always Select?) will deplete Bass’ HP, but he’ll keep on fighting.

Next time: Depression.

Update coming as soon as Photobucket finishes.

You'd think it wouldn't take much more time, but it's been at it for two hours now.

I'm honestly interested in seeing how long it will take.

This update would have been ready three hours ago, but I decided to wait and see how long it would take Photobucket to find and upload the three remaining images.

In the end it never finished, but I decided that enough was enough.

Well excuse me Mr. Invincible Aura.

Bass prepares one last Earth Break, but before he can release it

I’m not sure what the translators were doing here, since later it’s called the Alpha Revolt. But eh, Revolt, Rebellion, close enough.

Er, SciLab is on fire right now. And even if Flamman’s deletion stopped the flames, RS was following Megaman well before Flamman got destroyed.

Bass laughs that humans are still after him.

Um, he’s got an invincible aura. What are you going to do about that?

The game never really explains exactly what these two are talking about; only the manga based off the series does. But as I said earlier its canonicity is questionable.

I’d explain it now, but spoilers.

Ignoring Megaman, Bass floats over to RS.

RS explains that he did not come unprepared to battle Bass.

You can get Dark Aura later if you’re playing Blue, and it is indeed better than Life Aura.

However, it’s a pain to use and like most defense chips is fairly impractical compared to Invisible.

RS boasts that as long as he’s protected by Dark Aura, he could survive the deletion of the Cyber World. He then declares that Bass can’t even touch him.

Er, RS, you might want to set up a Holy Panel.

RS is amazed that he could feel the impact even through his aura. Meanwhile, Bass is impressed the Dark Aura held up, but wonders if it can withstand another blow.

You know, despite the fact that the only thing that makes Auras different from Barriers is that they don’t have any “HP” to deplete; either the attack is repulsed or the Aura dissolves.

Bass begins to charge up another Earth Break, but before he releases it

Bass groans at the interruption by the “feeble minded fool” and alerts RS that their confrontation will have to be postponed.

With that last statement Bass warps away and the Dark Aura dissolves.

Regaining his cool, RS mutters that he never expected Wily and Bass to team up. He then realizes that Wily mentioned the Tetra Codes, and wonders if Wily is planning on awakening the beast Alpha.

After those thoughts, RS walks over to Megaman.

I’ll have you know that just last game Megaman fought Bass to a standstill.

RS warps away as the camera centers back to Megaman.

Megaman awakens and stands up.

Lan explains that after Bass defeated them, Lan lost connection.

With that, control shifts to Lan.

One of the scientists from earlier rushes into the room and demands to know why Yuichiro is still in SciLab.

Lan screams.

The game cuts to Beach Hospital. Lan is waiting outside a room, and eventually a doctor exits.

This statement seems odd, but from what I can tell SciLab basically has an open door policy due to all of the civilian scientists that work there. SciLab itself also only works on projects for the good of the world, so attacking it is basically a gigantic dick move.

The doctor walks away.

Lan begins to cry, causing Megaman to mutter his name.

Haruka then exits the elevator.

With that, Haruka returns to the elevator, presumably off to get something for Yuichiro.

Lan’s only response is silence.

The people of Beach are now much less angry at the Tree of Life.

As far as I can tell, the program on the Net gets no replacement. Perhaps a death unnoticed?

After Lan goes to bed, the game cuts to another WWW segment.

I’m still not really sure how I feel about BN 1-3’s absolutely insane Wily. I mean, it fits, but it’s just kind of weird compared to how cool and collected he is in future games.

Drillman doesn’t blink. Instead, his eyes flash pink. No, really.

Dr. Wily commands Drillman to use his abilities to acquire Alpha. He adds that failure will not be tolerated.

Drillman responds that Mr. Match has weakened SciLab’s security to the point that the job will be easier than drilling through plywood.

Drillman assures Wily that he will not fail.

After Drillman leaves, Dr. Wily laughs that his plan is perfect.

The game cuts to ACDC school.

Yai points out the trauma could freak out anyone.

Mayl asks if Yai wants to go with her to visit Lan after school.

Yai is supposed to be 9, right?

The scene changes to Lan’s house.

That‘s right, BN did the “sadness due to disaster involving father prevents main character from going to school” long before Star Force did.

Megaman points out that everyone’s probably worried about Lan. Then the doorbell rings.

Apparently Yai is so loud she can scream through a door and still be heard from upstairs (and presumably through another door).

Lan responds that he doesn’t want to see anyone. Megaman tries to convince Lan to go, pointing out that they only came because they care for Lan, but Lan doesn’t respond.

A quick fade-to-black later and

I’m not sure if Lan let them in or if Mayl just used her own key.

Mayl asks how Yuichiro is doing.

Lan responds that Haruka hasn’t left her husband’s side.

DAMN IT YAI.

Surprisingly enough, Lan doesn’t react to being called a hero. Instead, he remains silent, causing Mayl to ask what’s wrong and Yai to ask if Lan’s sick.

Seems it was a delayed reaction.

Yai jumps and admonishes Lan for yelling at people who came out of worry.

The two leave.

Megaman has had enough.

The doorbell rings again.

We regain control of Lan. Amusingly enough, if you press L to ask for Megaman’s opinion

He’ll assume it’s Mayl who came again.

It’s not.

Lan’s surprised to see Douche, and asks what he’s doing here. Douche responds that it’s Official business.

I’m not sure if Lan’s honesty is pathetic or admirable.

Lan’s stunned the Officials are asking him to do something.

Should you really be having this conversation in the middle of ACDC?

Lan answers that he’s heard of the Tetra Codes, but he’s never actually seen any.

Silly Douche, they’re the keys to four doors.

Lan asks if Douche is talking about Alpha. Douche confirms.

Incidentally, aside from SciLab, those are some pretty WTF hiding places. Then again, there’s precedent (BN1 Fire Program was in Lan’s oven. Was Yuichiro trying to save on gas or something?), and I have to admit I wouldn’t look there.

Lan’s surprised to hear they have a last resort.

Lan guesses the Officials want him and Megaman to locate S, get the Forbidden Program, and bring it back.

He then asks why Douche doesn’t do it instead, if he knows so much.

What, you can’t just edit Protoman’s appearance and use a voice changer?

You know, if anything, Lan and Megaman should have the respect of the Undernet.

Douche admits the mission is dangerous.

Seriously, should you really be having this conversation in public?

Well then, guess Douche is going to take this opportunity to soothe his ego and arrest La-

Oh my God, character development!

With that, Douche (should I still call him that? I’ll leave it up to you guys I guess) walks away.

Megaman tells Lan to go see Yuichiro. Lan agrees.

But first, we have two new jobs! One of them gives a Grab Revenge Y, the other…

Give us our second Expansion Memory!

Also, 10 Chip Trader. I got a Spice1 D, a Metalman V2, a Recover 120 S, and a Shake2 I.

The man thinks he may have bought the wrong one.

Another trade I can’t do. Joy.

In any case, a team of Officials are investigating the hospital.

An international team.

This sure is a smart kid.

Anyways, time to face the music. Yuichiro’s room is where Yai’s was.

But before Lan enters, the game cuts to Yuichiro talking with someone.

Someone very familiar.

I think this is the first time we actually hear Sean’s name in-game. His last name is Obihiro, in case you were wondering.

I actually like what they did with Sean‘s mug shot here. He’s no longer permanently scowling and his eyes are a little softer.

Incidentally, according to Battle Chip Challenge, Sean’s navi is Freezeman.

Yuichiro asks if Wily was the mysterious navi’s operator.

This isn’t a retcon. Go back to page 4 and read the third to last post; Sean is talking to someone there. It’s pretty confusing who’s saying what, but the last declaration is actually from Wily, not Sean.

Sean explains he expanded Gospel as he was ordered to and passed on commands to commit crimes. Then his benefactor ordered him to build “it“.

At this point, Lan enters.

Lan skates over to Sean.

Sean calls out Lan’s name in surprise. In response, Lan notes Sean is looking better.

Sean walks out.

We know. Lan stopped him. Then befriended him.

So from mafia leader to traveling therapist. That’s quite the change.

Yuichiro asks if something’s wrong.

The screen fades to black as Lan explains his role in the SciLab fire.

Lan apologizes.

Lan decides to head to SciLab.

After the cutscene, we get some mail.

The Virus Breeder is pretty cool. What is it?

The scientist explains that originally they put viruses in capsules to use as bombs, similar to criminals, but the new system tames viruses and has them fight alongside navis.

This system is probably the basis of the Virus Battler in BN6.

Anyways, to use the Virus Breeder, we need to find some benevolent viruses. But unlike BN6’s stupid Rare Virus system, benevolent viruses are not random encounters.
