Guess who I ran into while running through Under 5.

Shadowman V3 is a tremendous asshole, because unlike the vast majority of V3 bosses he has three chips he can drop: Shadowman V2, Shadowman V3, and Muramasa. Getting all three can be a nightmare.

Unless you’re using Gater.

As a side note, Shadowman V3 will actually use the Muramasa chip at low health. Muramasa is basically a Long Sword thats damage is equal to the amount of HP you’ve lost.

As another side note, multiple hit navi chips don’t work on Mole viruses.

Oh hey, an Octovian.

This thing and its virus family are really, really, really, REALLY rare virus encounters. Naturally, they drop absurdly broken chips.

Octovian will shoot a red balloon forwards. If the virus isn’t destroyed before it hits something…

The whole field blows up, with the damage being whatever number was over the balloon.

However, you should not under any circumstances attack the balloon. If you do…

The balloon will simply turn the damage back on you.

After a truly epic amount of resets (Megalian E is an extremely rare encounter, and since you can’t run in Under 7, you’re better off soft-resetting until you find it), I got all four aura chips.

Once used, Under Shirt will prevent Megaman from dying as long as he’s above 1 HP. As a Navi Customizer program, it’s essential. As a chip, it’s worthless.

Some final notes.

If you run around the Wide Monitor Comp in Marine Harbor and get lucky enough…

You’ll encounter an Octon. And if you’re lucky enough to S rank it…

You’ll get Aqua Ball (hopefully. Octon viruses NEVER appear alone, and it‘s very possible to get the chip from the other virus instead). This forms the exact same balloon the Octon virus family uses, and can be powered up in the same way.

Theoretically it’s possible to get this as soon as you have access to Dad’s laboratory (you need some crazy luck though), and if you do it pretty much blows apart game difficulty.

Also, turns out Flamey viruses do actually drop a chip. You’ll need to S rank it then pray though.

Yeah, not like we’re single handedly taking down all of the ice viruses or anything like that.

Mmm. Anyways, inside the statue as a ridiculously rare encounter is

Octor.

Elec Balls do the same thing as Aqua Balls, just they do Elec damage instead.

So just as a heads-up, updates may slow down from here on.

I intend to get good at playing the platformer Megamans again.

Alright, back to the big brother.

How convenient.

Now where do we go next?

Yeah, sure, why not.

I love how the navi managed to remember the part of Megaman’s name specific to him, but forgot the part damn near every customized navi has.

Megaman’s surprised to hear the navi has a Blue Fragment.

The navi walks off.

“Lan, that is Navi is holding Blue Fragment!!”

After that, we get more mail.

W- how did he know that? Has that navi just been hanging around here? Did someone plant a bug on Megaman?

Or is Protoman here but not doing anything?

And with that, it’s time to fly back to Electopia.

UnderKoto is a pretty confusing place. Also, just like the Under most of the GMDs are trapped.

YESYESYESYESYESYESYES.

Okay, first things first.

Okay, let me direct your attention to two of the chips I just got.

Fast Gauge, as the name implies, doubles the speed of the Custom Gauge. It’s nigh-essential for speed deletes if you’re not abusing Gater.

Aqua Blade is just like Elec Blade and Fire Blade. However…

Life Sword 3 hits for a solid 600 damage. What’s really notable about it, however, is the fact that Fire, Aqua, and Elec Blade also come in * code.

So Life Sword 3 is one of the very few PAs in the series that goes with any kind of folder.

Son of a-

Okay, I’m now certain that all that “1 Battle For Style” code I used earlier kind of messed up my game. Oh well, this is easy to fix.

I’ll just accept Electric Custom…

And overwrite it.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention it earlier, but Heat Shield leveled up.

After much going around in circles, I finally made it to the exit.

That navi was clearly purple-pink.

Did the game designers really think Bug Frags were important enough to hide behind Gospel Cubes?

Yay.

Okay, enough looking around.

Normally I don’t take pictures of these, but seriously? Null and Void?

The navi reveals he was just stalling for time.

Lan demands to know where Gospel HQ is.

Of course, the navi doesn’t tell him.

Oh wait he does.

With that, the navi starts flickering and fades away. I’m not sure if it was deleted, or if it escaped.

Megaman notes that they now have two Blue Fragments. Lan orders Megaman to head to Gospel HQ.

I think Lan was supposed to say the second line.

After that, we get more mail.

Conveniently enough, the ice inside Gospel HQ is only of the yellow variety.

Anyways, I need to switch back to my main folder.

Hmm… that last navi said the Supreme Commander was called Freezeman. This guy appears to be made out of ice, and is also surrounded by it.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say he’s Freezeman.

Called it.

…What? Let me count the problems with this plan.

1) You’re somehow going to cause a magnitude 10.0 earthquake (such a quake has never happened in recorded history). It’s weird enough that earthquakes are even happening right now, but it’s implied that these earthquakes have just been in a frozen state (as in the cause is there, but the effect hasn‘t quite happened yet). I don’t think you can just cause the tectonic plates to smash into each other.

2) By definition a magnitude 10.0 is about 32 times stronger then a magnitude 9.0 earthquake. A magnitude 9.0 earthquake can devastate an area several thousand miles wide. What I’m getting at it is that this is likely to both permanently damage the crust, and affect all of the continents nearby (relatively speaking anyways) the fault line. This presumably includes Electopia, and Kotobuki Town by proxy. And if the cyber world base is in Koto area, it’s likely the real life counterpart is in Kotobuki.

3) This will somehow destroy civilization. Earthquakes are nothing new. And even if this earthquake is enough to collapse every building and house, that doesn’t change the fact that there are people outside the cities or the fact that there are people on other continents.
Civilization =/= buildings. Civilization is people. And the people are going to be fine.

4) According to that e-mail we got earlier, the people of Electopia are already heading to earthquake shelters. Considering the fact that earlier earthquakes did absolutely nothing to the buildings we’ve been through, technology has evidently advanced to the point where buildings can withstand most normal earthquakes. A place specially designed to shelter people from earthquakes can probably protect them even from this super quake.

Er, a quake that magnitude would crash the Net. You won’t be watching anything.

…What…? You know what, screw it. You’re the last Blue Fragment, sure.

…But we need the Blue Fragments to make the Blue Cure. If you’re the last Blue Fragment we can’t just destroy you.

Megaman asks Lan to handle the battle routine.

Freezeman is a pain in the ass. Like damn near every BN2 boss, he’s got a gimmick.

He surrounds himself with a chunk of ice. At V1, it has 45 HP.

Once you break it, Wind will start blowing, pushing you to your back row. This is probably the most annoying part of the fight, as the Wind makes it extremely difficult to effectively use close range attacks.

Freezeman’s main attack are these icicles.

Aside from that, he’ll send out Ice Towers. He’ll fire three in a row.

Freezeman, incidentally, does not move.

Reset time.

The entire field is covered in ice panels. I’m not sure if I mentioned it earlier, but Elec attacks do double damage on ice. Freezeman is weak to Elec.

In other words, Elec does Quad damage in this fight.

Freezeman laughs that there’s no more time to make a Blue Cure.

What body? He exploded.

Megaman suddenly yelps. Lan asks what’s wrong.

Lan wonders what they should do.

Doc notes that Freezeman was the ices’ power source.

So this magically stops the earthquake somehow.

Knock yourself out. Not like they did anything.

Doc walks off.

Then we get more mail.

I give up trying to understand how the hell this Environment System is supposed to work.

Here’s a good look at Gospel’s crest.

Haruka observes that Lan and Megaman are very good at making their parents fret.

Now Protoman knows what it feels like to be assaulted by navi ghosts.

Douche, they’re programs. They can be copied.

Yuichiro notes that the situation may be more complicated than previously thought.

No we didn’t. Koto Square is fine.

The Scientist NPC asks Yuichiro if they’re overlooking anything.

Scene shift!

Lan gets an e-mail at this point.

Remember this lady? From Shadowman’s scenario? She will give you Gate Key A after you deliver Note Data.

We can finally challenge Douche again.

Sonic Boom is such a pain in the ass.

*sigh*

Anyways, round 2!

So I found a way to cheese Protoman. Just punch a Rock Cube into the top or bottom panels of his back column.

Since Protoman can only launch a Sonic Boom from the top or bottom panel of his back column, if you block one he’ll be forced into the other.

From then on, if you stay in the row with the Rock Cube you’ll avoid all Sonic Booms and only have to dodge Fighter Sword and Step Sword.

Nah, Protoman’s just unwilling to get out of the back row. You should probably do something about that. He does. In BN3 Protoman is an all new nightmare. Or he would be if it wasn’t BN3.

Alright, my last stop is in Under 7.

Damn it.

This here is where I fucked up. On the turn before this, I was charging the Megabuster. I released the B button while selecting my chips, and didn‘t start holding it again. So when the turn began, Megaman fired the Megabuster instead of using Life Sword 3.

Shadowman took that brief window of time to Muramasa me for 1590 damage.

Oh well, at least that’s over wi-

I'm pretty convinced one of your codes fucked up the game because damn, what would I give to have that many ghost navi encounters when I play MMBN - and you're not even stopping to grind!

(I use Navi chips religiously)

I'm starting to think so too- I'm the person who has NEVER run into a navi in BN5 protoman (But the encounter rates may be different then), but dang they're all over!

Honestly, being besieged by navi ghosts always happens to me whether I hack or not. I'm just unlucky like that.

It's one of the many reasons I hate BN4 so much; until I assemble the super folder, getting through any internet area is just a bunch of praying that an Omega navi doesn't show up (One really unlucky incident I recall had me going through the entire internet to get some much needed Zenny. I faced Gutsman Omega, Sparkman Omega, Fireman Omega, Roll Omega, Burnerman Omega, Videoman Omega, Thunderman Omega, Windman Omega, Coldman Omega, Searchman Omega, and Shademan Omega. No joke. Thankfully at that point I did have the super folder, so it wasn't too bad.)

Besides, whenever I do want them to appear, they never do.

Incidentally...

Protoman is such a cheater.

Sorry this update took so long. Things got a little busy IRL for me.

Alright, a few more loose ends to tie up.

I’ll admit I just Gater-ed Knightman. Because seriously, without Airshoes he’s just frustrating.

Gater-ed Magnetman too, because he’s an asshole. Seriously though, my normal strategy to get V2 chips (let the navi hit me twice and avoid everything afterwards) doesn’t really work on this guy since I can’t guarantee a dodge on NS Tackle due to those freaking Magnet panels.

Yes, I could just use a Grass Line or something, but meh.

On my way to Freezeman…

*sigh*

That’s what Muramasa looks like. As you may notice, this battle isn’t going very well.

Meh.

After a bunch of resets

I finally encountered this guy.

The battle went terribly. My Area Grab faded before I could effectively use my Elec Blades, and I wasted all of my Rock Cubes. I was reduced to spamming the charge shot.

On the plus side, I learned how to effectively dodge all of his attacks.

Messed up again (put a Rock Cube up but I didn’t punch it, so it just got in the way), but the battle went much better.

Ugh. This battle would be so much easier if Aqua styles didn’t slip on ice like in later games.

Koto Square is now abandoned, save for the Net Dealers.

Sounds like something to check out.

If you’re wondering what they’re talking about, there’s a red portal on the wall with the Gospel crest. That Gospel navi in those picture just jumped out of it.

Lan realizes that Gospel wasn’t destroyed after all.

Why he and the Officials would assume taking out the HQ and Supreme Commander would take out the entire organization is beyond me.

Megaman decides it’s worth a try.

Another Gospel navi jumps out, surprising Megaman.

As a total side note, apparently there’s only 16 of these in the game. Which really makes me wonder, since the only Bug Frag shop in the game requires 32 Bug Frags to sell out.

Anyways, I checked a guide and it seems I’ve missed a few power ups.

Turns out you can jack into this to get a Lance P.

Came for this though.

Yeah, I have no clue how you’re supposed to find this one.

The game doesn’t tell you, but as soon as Freezeman’s scenario starts you can jack into Mayl’s piano.

Really, did they expect us to run around mashing A or something?

This girl actually darts in and out of view, so it’s not quite as bad.

I guess it was a good thing Shadowman was basically stalking me.

Yeah, I’m not going to show the questions and answers for this one.

Just know that it asks for even more useless trivia and actually gets some BN1 facts wrong (he calls Count (Jack) Zap “Jack Electricity” and spells Wily as “Wiley“).
