Lan confirms, then remembers that Dex also fell down a pit.

Dex explains that cushioned mats were placed at the bottom of each pit to minimize damage. Unfortunately, Yai fell on her head.

Megaman notes it sounds serious. Lan asks which hospital she was sent to, despite the fact there’s only one hospital in the immediate surroundings.

Lan then gets a phone call.

Yai asks if Lan is winning. Lan asks if Yai is okay.

Yai, you somehow fell right on your head (despite the fact that you were standing straight up when the hole opened) and didn‘t break your neck by some miracle. I don’t really think you should whine about being alive to have tests run on you to check for possible brain damage.

Lan asks Yai to wish him luck. Yai hangs up at that.

Mayl’s also relieved that Yai is alright and Dex points out that Lan can concentrate on the N1 now.

Megaman notes that if the crowd is going wild, Douche’s battle may be over.

Lan’s surprised Douche is having trouble and wonders how strong Q is. Megaman suggests Lan look at the display screen.

Q’s navi compliments Protoman.

You know, if Q weren’t obviously evil, assuming there’s something wrong with someone who shows great skill is really bad sportsmanship. I guess Douche is rubbing off on Protoman.

But you fought him to a standstill in it.

Douche warns Protoman to be alert.

Q orders Desertman to not delete Protoman just yet. Desertman wants a reason why he shouldn’t kill (yes, they actually use the word kill) his enemy.

Can you guess who Q is yet?

Douche orders Protoman to delete Desertman.

The screen’s waving again.

Desertman zuzuzozo’s that Protoman’s eyesight must be shot now.

Desertman proclaims he’ll devour Protoman slowly and begins to inch forward.

Do you really need to announce what is essentially closing your eyes?

Protoman senses Desertman and tries to slash him. Unfortunately, Desertman turns into sand and retreats.

Q decides he’ll have to delete Protoman here and now.

Douche just said Wily as well. Clearly he’s part of the WWW.

Moving on, Q confirms.

Let’s not ask who was standing in for Sunayama while he was doing his announcements earlier.

Douche realizes Sunayama has been stringing everyone along the entire time.

What kind of question is that? If you want to inspire terror, you need to do it in public.

The only WWW operations that have actually been secret are… hm… Flashman’s, I guess, and… maybe Numberman’s? Yeah, that’s pretty much it. Everything’s been pretty public.

I thought WWW just wanted to destroy the world.

Douche deduces that the purpose of the N1 was to show Sunayama, a member of the WWW, defeating some of the strongest Netbattlers in the world on live TV.

Sunayama laughs that when people see that the “legendary” Douche is powerless against the WWW everyone will be too afraid to face them.

What makes this scene so ridiculous is that at the very beginning Lan was introduced as the kid who stopped WWW. You’d think Sunayama would mention him.

THEY ALREADY LOST TO AN ELEMENTARY STUDENT.

Sunayama asks if Douche understands yet.

At this point Lan rushes over.

How did he run all the way to the editing room in the span of like ten seconds? He from Central City or something?

Douche proceeds to stroll away. Lan stops him and declares that he’s going with him.

With that, Douche continues to walk away.

It would be hilarious if the reason Ribitta said this was because the actual N1 show was going through a commercial break while Sunayama was ranting.

The elevator finally works.

It says this, and yet the On Air light on top of the door isn’t on.

Lan decides to listen in on Sunayama and Douche’s conversation.

Douche’s response is silence.

Why is everyone forgetting Lan?

Douche asks if Sunayama wants a Net Battle.

Douche calls Sunayama a coward.

Protoman asks Douche to hand his PET over. Chaud growls at his inability to do anything.

Yeah, so all this time Lan though Douche was just this random highly skilled kid.

Megaman asks if Lan is carrying anything that might help.

Lan quickly discusses his plan with Megaman.

Douche apologizes to Protoman while Sunayama walks forward.

Lan skates over.

Once again, Lan shows off his awesome dart skills. I mean, he just needed to hit Sunayama. He didn’t need to headshot him.

For once Douche doesn’t argue.

Douche and Douche Sr. comply, and proceed to stroll out.

Sunayama commands Desertman to delete Megaman.

Desertman can be pretty annoying.

Like Kingman’s Pawns, Desertman’s hands are constantly trying to line up with you. If they succeed, they’ll morph into a lion and fly down the row.

The hands can be destroyed, but they’ll eventually regenerate.

Desertman’s second move opens up some sinkholes on your side of the field. Where they open up is pretty random, but I’m pretty sure it never opens up underneath you.

If you hit Desertman with anything, he’ll collapse into sand and reform on a different panel. Usually those sand pillars will be strategically placed to protect him.

Wood Styles can take advantage of the fact their charge shot does double damage on Sand to quickly destroy the pillars. Unfortunately, unless you paralyze Desertman the charge shot is useless against him since he’ll dissolve after the first hit.

In fact, non-time freezing multi-hit chips in general are useless against Desertman unless he’s paralyzed.

Shockwave chips are extremely effective here. Not only do they destroy the hands, they’ll go right under the pillars.

At critical HP Desertman will start transforming one of his hands into a brick and dumping them on your panel. I’m fairly certain that when it lands you can’t move for a bit.

If you’re wondering why I’ve taken so much damage on that last image, it’s because I was pretty much standing still waiting for him to actually use the move. He does it pretty rarely in V1.

Anyways, reset time.

For some odd reason, while Sunayama thinks he doesn’t blink.

I don’t know why this whole no blinking thing bugs me so much.

Lan advances and declares that there’s nowhere for Sunayama to run.

Unfortunately…

Lan is an idiot. Thankfully, though,

Douche apparently expected this would happen.

I can’t believe it either.

Oh no! A grown man has been surrounded by elementary students! What will he do now?

Sunayama accepts his defeat gracefully, and laughs that this is how things should be.

Notably, hitting Desertman with any water-elemental attack (including the AquaStyle chargeshots) solidifies him temporarily, meaning he won't auto-teleport after getting hit.

Sorry this took so long. I’m trying to get through my backlog of games.

Megaman admits he’s still worried about “the major catastrophe” Rei talked about back during Flashman’s scenario. Lan agrees.

Megaman then decides they should probably call it a day and return home for some sleep. Lan laughs that Megaman HAS been fighting all day, but notes that they should probably stop by the hospital to visit Yai first.

The scene shifts to WWW HQ.

I’d really like to make some kind of joke about “alread”, but I’ve got nothing.

Wily gloats that once he gets the other two Tetra Codes

At this point, our next villain walks in.

Meet Anetta, last name unknown.

Wily grumbles that young people these days have no respect before asking where Anetta went today.

Anetta, if you can’t tell by this, is an eco-terrorist, like 90% of all BN eco activists. More than that, though, she’s special in the fact she is by far the most mind bogglingly stupid villain in the entire series.

All three of them begin to run out, but they’re interrupted.

An NPC walks over.

Lan groans that he totally forgot and tells the other two to go ahead of him.

Then we get some e-mail.

Before we go, though, there’s something new in Beach 1.

If you can get into position to effectively use Plasma, the battle essentially becomes whack-a-mole.

Desertman’s chip sends a Sand Lion down the rows above and below yours. Whatever panels that are crossed are converted into Sand panels.

To be honest, Desertman would actually be an ideal chip for me to use. Not only is it D coded, the sand panels formed synergize well with Wood Style’s charge shot.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t work well with Flashman.

More specifically, the broken TV in Yoka Inn.

Much more importantly, though

The Chip Order system essentially buy chips from your library.

But you only get one… right?

Have you ever wondered where the chips you put in the Chip Trader go?

Would you look at that. It’s back.

Chips you put in the Chip Trader can be re-obtained through the Order System, with the number of times you can order a certain chip dependent on how many of that chip you’ve traded away… usually (Cannon C can be bought infinite times I think).

However, the chip will always be in a certain code. While this can be great with some chips, like Invisible…

Other chips don’t transition very well.

The Order System is probably the best way to get the chip codes necessary for various Program Advances. In fact, if you put in those four sword chips in that exact order, you’ll activate the Elemental Sword Program Advance, which is essentially ESW, just without the Sonic Booms or any of its usefulness.

Oh, we can jack in here now. Inside is a RegUp1, a PMD with an Attack +1 program and

A gambler I’m about to humiliate.

Remember kids: don’t gamble or a save scummer will cheat you out of all your money.

You wouldn’t know it, but you can jack in to this. Inside is a HP Memory and a PMD with a Jealousy J.

There’s also a link to the Undernet.

These security cubes are all over the Undernet, and they all require you to beat a specific navi’s V3 form before you can pass.

So what’s my prize for defeating Bubbleman V3?

Nothing. Huh, I could have sworn there was an Aura chip here.

Heh, I guess this means I reset my actual White game for no reason at all. Ah well.

Much more importantly, we can finally jack in to this. Insid-

Okay, that’s new. Moving on, inside was a Weapon Level +1 program and another link to the Undernet.

This guy is awesome.

As you can see, he sells one Elec +30, which will go great with my Flashman folder.

And in Blue version, he sells this for only 100 Bug Frags.

I’m going to be blunt.

Folder Back is broken. When used, it refreshes every single chip in your folder (INCLUDING ITSELF), instantly brings you back to the Custom Screen, and if you’re in multiplayer it also brings back Rush/Tango/Beat Support (though it brings it back for the opponent too).

Best of all, it’s * coded.

Folder Back is what makes many one-hit wonder folders work. Gaia Blade can be spectacular but if you miss you’re screwed. Flashman and Bubbleman are awesomely broken, but if you use them all up and the opponent isn’t dead yet you’re in trouble. Elemental Sonic Wave is amazing, but if you mess up the input you’ve wasted it.

With Folder Back, you essentially have infinite retries.

The hospital is one hell of a mood killer. Pretty much every other background music track is fairly light hearted (except for the obviously evil places, of course), but the hospital track is just plain serious.

There’s an amazing piano arrange of it, though.

Joy.

This TV is actually playing the interview Lan got at the end of Quickman’s scenario in BN2. You can jack in.

Inside are two new viruses. N.O.’s constantly regenerate health and try to line up with you so they can fire their… er… souls.

No seriously what are they firing at you?

Heavy’s appear on your side of the field and repeatedly move over a single column.

N.O.s drop N.O. Beam chips, which allow Megaman to also fire his… soul and do massive paralyzing damage to his row as long as there’s something (and you’d be surprised how many things qualify) behind him. Heavy’s drop Shake chips, which cause a Heavy to attack the column two panels ahead IIRC.

Aside from them, there’s a Sub Chip merchant and a Recover 120 *.

Before the Judge Tree, there was the Tree of Life.

You can only get this if you check the tree on the third floor.

If you recall, Ura is the name of the Inn in Yoka.

Here we go.

You’d never know it, but you can actually jack in to Yai’s bed. Inside is a RegUp2.

Yai’s new mugshot is an obvious recolor.

Megaman laughs that Yai seems to have fully recovered.

Someone’s been reading a dictionary.

Lan’s glad to hear Yai will be back soon. He then snarks that the room’s awfully small, considering Yai’s normal standards.

That is such a terrible idea it isn’t even funny.

Yai then asks if we saw the Tree of Life.

Lan’s surprised the tree is run by a computer.

Lan points out there’s nothing wrong with Yai, so there’s nothing stopping her from buying it herself.

Yai snickers that girls have to watch their calories. Lan sighs that he’ll be right back.

Lan’s about to head back when a nurse suddenly runs in.

Lan asks if there’s something wrong with the boy. You know, besides the wheelchair.

Megaman suggests Lan help the nurse.

And we’ve helped other people out a lot more. Something like a 5:1 ratio?

The nurse thanks us for helping and asks us to look outside while she checks the inside of the hopsital.

First off, though, we can jack in to the vending machine.

Inside is 9000 Z and another sucker.

Apparently that nurse was blind or something, because Mamoru

Lan’s starting to get embarrassed.

Mamoru’s overjoyed.

Mamoru responds that he loves it because everyone is equal when Net Battling.

Lan asks if Mamoru wants to battle with him. Mamoru is excited, but sadly recalls that his doctor told him not to do anything too stressful.

Mamoru sighs that he should probably head back for his test.

Lan replies that he’d be happy to visit.

Mamoru then starts to leave.

And amazingly, it’s not a fade to black!

Lan agrees, then notes that they should get back to Yai‘s room.

Oh, and if you were wondering, there’s a wheelchair ramp over here.

Lan apologizes and explains that something came up.

So much for being thirsty.

Mayl steps up and sighs that it’s been a while since all four of them were together like this.

Lan laughs and reveals that he was just kidding. He wants Yai to get out as fast as possible. He then asks for Dex to back him up.

Dex leaves the room. Lan wonders what’s wrong with him.

Okay, moving on.

Yeesh.

The battle went terribly, mainly because I kept on stepping into those sinkholes.

Also because Shockwave isn’t strong enough to one shot the hands anymore, so they actually gave me some problems.

In BN3White, the undernet bugfrag shop sells:

And as the gigachip, Navirecycle * for 200 bugfrags. What it does is copy the last navichip you used, and I think it also copies all the powerup chips you used on it.
While it's useful, it's not nearly as good as FolderBack.

Also notable: Navi+20, which is vital for navichip-based folders. Bubbleman and (future boss spoilers)Plantman especially benefit from it, though less than they would from the appropriate Element+ chips.

School + Community Service + Dragon Quest IX + .hack// GU = Delay

Tora explains that he’s been looking around. Where he lives, he’s the best Netbattler around. But when he entered the N1, and saw all the other contestants, he realized he was just a little fish in a pond. Now he wants to see the ocean.

Haruka walks in after his speech.

Tora decides that he and Lan will talk more after they eat.

Lan reminds Tora that he was talking about something.

Tora recalls and explains that because there were so many strong Net Battlers he decided to do a little snooping around and study other battle styles. A training misson, in his own words.

Slightly disappointed, Lan asks who the first person was.

Tora sighs that when he went to Douche’s house, he was told to go home.
