Lan mulls over what he needs to do to get to the WWW Base for a bit.

Alright, time to find a boat.

Not much of a choice.

Megaman notes the engine will need to be replaced. Lan wonders where he can find a new engine.

Megaman thinks it over and admits it won’t be easy.

So now we need to find someone who can get us an engine, pronto.

Unfortunately, we’re given no hints whatsoever.

The answer does make sense though.

Lan explains he’s looking for a boat engine.

Yai’s certain that she could get a boat engine if she really wanted one.

Yai repeats herself and asks where Lan wants to go.

Man, it’s like BN 3’s final scenarios are doing everything they can to redeem the characters who have been insufferable pricks throughout the series so far.

Yai tells Lan the engine will be ready by tomorrow.

Lan thanks Yai, who tells him to just get going.

Rei asks if they can now proceed with the plan. Wily confirms.

Haven’t you already done tha- oh, right, Guardian.

Sunayama laughs that this was definitely worth breaking out of prison for.

The room is silent for a bit.

Wily suddenly calms down and faces the screen behind him.

Wily explains that in a short time the WWW will conduct an assault on the Net that will destroy all Net society functions.

Megaman wonders if they should tell someone. Lan immediately responds with a no.

Then Lan gets an e-mail from Yuichiro.

Yuichiro tells us to install the program he attached to the e-mail.

Oh great, another story program.

Two final notes.

First, if you go on the Net, everything is all bleak and gray because Alpha is absorbing it at a reduced capacity.

Second, the prize for beating Drillman Beta sucks.

Next time: The infiltration of Skull Fortress.

So yeah, just as a note the next update is probably going to take a while, since I'm juggling Pokemon Black, SRW OG 1, and SRW OG 2.

As such, I'll just throw up a quick interim update about

Rockman.EXE Operation: Shooting Star, a game that never left Japan because it sucked.

Or, as it would probably be called in english, Megaman Battle Network Operation: Star Force.

This was a "remake" of the first BN game for the DS. I put remake in quotes because, really, it was pretty much a port.

The following are all of the minor differences:

1. A new intro.

2. Music slightly remixed. Example: Net Battle, BN1 version and OSS version.

3. Touch screen features (read: map).

4. The ability to get the Bass chip legitimately and an amazing total of five new chips (one an event chip), all navis. There are also two new program advances involving the new chips.

5. Some chips have had their chip codes changed, and others have had their damage adjusted.

6. Permanent autorun, with the B button allowing you to walk.

7. Voice clips like BN5 Double Team.

8. Brand new mugshots fo Lan, Megaman, Chaud, Mayl, Yai, and Dex, and several other mugshots have had some very minor revisions.

9. Elecman's scenario's invisible paths now have small dots that flash every now and then.

The following are the "major" differences:

1. At the beginning of a new game you'll see a new scene involving Star Force 3 characters.

2. A new scenario involving the Star Force Megaman has been added after Elecman's. Said new scenario has no effect whatsoever on the rest of the game.

3. You can now only ADD once. Also, time freezing attacks do damage during the animation instead of after.

4. At the title screen, a special code can be inserted to get a Gutsman * chip. From what I know, this is the only * coded chip.

5. There is a new multi-player minigame that can be accessed at the title screen.

6. Removal of the Heat, Wood, and Aqua Armors because why not.

And that's it.

Haha, just kidding. Like I would forget the "biggest" new function.

Midway through the new scenario, you gain the ability to play as Star Force Megaman. Using him causes the following:

1. The virus and boss battle themes are changed to the SF1 and SF2 versions repectively.

2. An icon of SF Megaman is placed on the touch screen. Touching it will cause a short conversation between Omega-Xis and SF Megaman.

3. Game difficulty is removed. SF Megaman has access to all of his normal functions, including a shield, the ability to do Mega Attacks (by locking on to a target in your row, you can jump to the panel in front of them and hit them with your next chip), and a faster charging buster with the damage multipliers of the later games. There is literally no valid reason to use BN Megaman.

4. Gigantic plot holes, as nobody comments that Lan is using a new navi. Oh, right, and SF Megaman gets the boosts from Hub.bat despite said program specifically being for Hub.

Though this list seems sizable, actually playing the game shows that there really are very few differences.

If they ever finish an english patch, I might LP this, but I doubt that's happening anytime soon.

Oh right- I might as well help out point out some things new with BN5 double team DS when we get to that point if someone isn't already going to do it... Quite a few changes even if gameplay for major plot points is mostly the same.

Eh?

As far as I know, the only differences are voice acting, touch screen functions, three new gimmick NC programs, slightly remixed music, new mugshots, the ability to legitimately acquire Lord of Chaos/Leaders Raid, the weird party switch/assist mechanics that only affect Liberation Missions, and some ridiculously broken Number Trader prizes.

Oh, and Number Ball * and Sol Cross.

The basic game is still the same, if not worse due to the removal of E-Reader functions.

Bass Cross was in the original BN5 too, just as an E-Reader function.

But yeah, I forgot about the music.

To be fair, it does come with both games, and noone actually owned an E-Reader, and most of the E-Reader prizes were Health Ups/Power Ups, right? So, like no point in getting them unless you were obsessive or something...

You couldn't be more wrong.

Then again, it was technically Japanese exclusive. The data was still in the english version though, fully translated and everything.

Heck, BN4 and BN6 had it too, though nobody likes BN4 enough to find a way to access the card data, and BN6's card data (among other things) was completely deleted in the translation process.

Man, Japan gets all of the cool stuff. At least you can access that stuff with a GameShark (hopefully it doesn't ruin your game).

Like all cheat devices, the codes won't ruin your game unless you either:

a) Put WAY too many in.

b) Put in a faulty code.

c) Do something stupid (Ex: Saving in a debug area).

The e-Reader patch codes work perfectly fine; I use them on my actual copies of TC and TP. Let me tell you, after you do that, pre-postgame difficulty vanishes.

Especially with Hub Hikari.

oh my god this update is so late.

Alright, it’s time to face the WWW.

Dex, Mayl, Yai, and Chaud walk over.

Well he doesn’t have much of a choice since you guys never show up until the last minute.

Oh I’m certain you guys can help, just not in a timely fashion.

I find it kind of funny that Chaud essentially says the same thing Dex does. I guess it’s because he’s new to this “helping a friend” thing.

Dex alerts Lan that they know what they’re doing is dangerous.

After a moment of hesitation, Lan makes his decision.

Pfft.

Yai reminds Chaud she was one of the top 8 battlers of the N1.

Tora walks over and is relieved to see that he made it in time.

Yai shrieks at her new nickname.

The boys walk on to the boat. After a quick black screen interlude, they reach their destination.

With that, Chaud proceeds to walk away.

And Lan waits until after he leaves to tell him to wait up.

Tora and Chaud also waltz off.

No you aren’t.

You’re going to jack into this random hidden computer.

And get one of the most crucial NC programs of the game.

Collect guarantees a chip drop from any enemy that can drop chips. Naturally, it’s a lifesaver, as you don’t need to worry about getting Zenny prizes instead of chips.

And unlike it’s following incarnations, BN3’s Collect is a reasonable size. I still won’t be using it (I think I have every single chip the viruses here can drop already), but it’s a nice thing to know.

And that’s it for this computer. For now anyways.

Amazing how Anetta, an eco-terrorist so dedicated she attacked a freaking hospital, doesn’t notice her base has purple water flowing out of it.

What’s up with the BN series and purple water anyways? (As a side note, White version has much more sensible dark green water instead.)

Nearby the waterfall of pollution is a door leading to an odd room with a chair in the middle.

A very advanced chair.

Tora marvels at the sheer power of the nearby computer, while Dex is freaked out a human body is being displayed on the screen.

Megaman tells Lan to find a jack in point.

Lan asks if Dex sees any jack in points.

OH GOD WILY HAS LEARNED.

Chaud turns around and demands to know who’s there.

Oh hey Fre- wait, how did you even get here? Lan and co took the only boat in Electopia, and the place can’t be approached by air.

…Did he swim or something?

Lan, Tora, and Dex rush over to Fred. Chaud asks if Lan knows the man.

Because apparently Cossack was too long.

Lan’s surprised at the revelation that a mysterious super programmer used to work in the most well-known Internet laboratory in the nation.

Meanwhile, Chaud recognizes Cossak’s name as the head of the Independent Navi Project.

No, seriously, he calls it that. Jeez, why do BN3’s backstory events all have two names?

Chaud wonders why Cossak is here.

Chaud complies.

Lan asks how that’s possible. Dr. Cossak clarifies that it’s not the body being digitized, but the brain waves.

Dex asks what happens after that.

Wouldn’t there be a lack of smell and taste? Probably hearing too, and maybe touch.

Ah, the old “fool your body into thinking it’s hurt” gimmick.

Tora shakily asks what happens if you die in the Cyberworld.

Dr. Cossak explains that SciLab developed the technology, but it was abandoned for being too dangerous. He then muses that Wily probably got the technology while he worked at SciLab.

A quick fade to black later, and Dr. Cossak has strapped himself in.

Dr. Cossak tells the boys he’ll get to work on activating the teleporters, and adds that they can see what he does on the monitors.

The screen pixelizes. Dr. Cossak quickly turns around.

Dr. Cossak walks to a nearby warp point in order to pulse out. But before he can…

The screen pixelizes some more as Bass warps in.

Cossak demands to know why Bass is helping Wily.

Cossak screams as the screen pixelizes some more.

That little white scar on Bass’ chest (specifically on his icon, which is supposed to just be a white dot in a black circle) is flashing green.

The following is a summarized explanation of what happened to Bass and Cossak. As I noted before, it’s from the manga spin-off so its canonicity is questionable.

Inspired by Tadashi Hikari’s Net Navigator project, Cossak sought to create an Auto Navi, a Net Navigator that wouldn’t require a human operator. And he succeeded with Bass.

Bass’ original job was to test SciLab’s security capabilities, which he did a bit too well, annoying security navis and causing some scientists to label him as a troublemaker. Cossak saw Bass as a son though, so he always stood up for him. As for Bass, his ego was genuine but he always meant well.

However, the Alpha Rebellion changed everything. Blamed for destabilizing Alpha, Bass was quarantined. Eventually, the Navi Elite Corps moved to delete Bass, claiming that it was a joint decision by all of SciLab (which would include Cossak). Bass did not react very well to this, and the fact that he was under power limiters and as such unable to fight back only made things worse. In the end, he only survived due to the intervention of Cossak (who, as you might have guessed, had nothing to do with the decision to delete Bass), who removed the limiters and installed the Get Ability program. With those two trumps, Bass quickly eliminated the Navi Elite Corps (except for RS of course. Or maybe he was but there was back-up data. Meh.) and vanished, causing SciLab to presume he had been deleted. As for Cossak, for his intervention he was arrested.

But Bass hadn’t been deleted. He ended up in the Undernet, where he slowly began to gain power. Eventually, he challenged Serenade and got his ass kicked because apparently he never Get Abilitied an Area Grab. In the aftermath of the battle, it’s revealed that Cossak installed a third program in Bass: the ability to jack out into Cossak’s PET. Bass never did this, so Cossak assumed he had been deleted.

With that said, it’s kind of odd RS has a vendetta against Bass, especially since it was proven he wasn’t the cause of the Alpha Rebellion.

Bass explains that as he swore revenge on humans as he was deleted. But he survived the incident.

So yeah, Bass.EXE has Classic Megaman/X’s powers.

Bass explains that day after day he was attacked by hordes of viruses. And occasionally, he found the remains of deleted or discarded navis.

Cossak sighs that he and Bass have become completely different.

I love how Bass is still showing off his scar. It’s like he’s in a pose-off with Cossak.

Bass calls Cossak a fool. Cossak agrees: only a fool would have made Bass.

It’s hard to see in a still frame, but Cossak is being electrocuted.

Eventually, the electricity stops and Cossak slumps to his side. Lan darts up to him.

You just saw him get electrocuted, what do you think?

These lines (along with “I was a fool for making you”) are why I don’t really think the manga interpretation is canon.

This line is really ambiguous. Does Cossak wish he could stop Bass from being consumed by hatred? Or does he wish he could have stopped Bass from being made?

Cossak groans.

Dex volunteers for the job and tells the others to go on without him for a bit.

BN3’s Castle Wily is structured much like BN1’s Skull Fortress; there’s an inside area followed by an outside area followed by an inside area etc.

No really.

Tora wonders what that sound was.

Chaud guesses it’s a guard robot.

The robot jumps down.

The machine begins to beep.

Lan actually did a quick sidestep (seems he’s really good at that) right before the above image.

Megaman, one of your folders is based off Flashman’s chip data, which you got by repeatedly deleting Flashman‘s Beta form.

Also Beastman came back in-story earlier, so…

Megaman warns Chaud and Tora of the hypnotic effects of the light beam.

Lan points out that if they rush the modified tank they’ll just get hypnotized.

Tora walks over to the far left corner.

I’d be surprised that worked if it weren’t Flashman.

Lan skates forward, while Chaud just walks.

The puzzle for the final dungeon areas is pretty simple. Don’t get caught, or else you’ll be dumped back at either the entrance or the last checkpoint you crossed.

Oh wow, Elebees. These guys actually could be encountered way back in Flashman’s scenario, as a somewhat rare encounter in one of the offline computers in ACDC School.

They attack by teleporting to a panel that’s in the same row/column/diagonal as Megaman and darting toward him. They drop Arrow chips, which probably do the same thing. I have no clue, since it’s one of the few BN3 chips I have never tried to use.

Oh hey, a BMD! I should probably go get tha-

WHAT.

So yeah, Alpha is hiding on the ground. To see it,

You need to install the Alpha program Yuichiro gave Lan.

Then you can see Alpha as little red blobs on the floor.

The secondary puzzle for the final area involves finding the Key Data for the doors to the bosses.
