I've been considering doing this for a while, actually. I'm currently thinking of making a biannual event of cleaning house, so expect me to get around to it sometime in November once I finalize some of the details.

I'm gonna have to duck out of that one. Awesome idea but I don't see myself feeling up to it anytime soon. If anyone wants to take my Suikoden 3 spot they can - that one's kinda hung up on technical issues and everyone kinda agreeing Suikoden 2 ought to be done first.

If it really, truly gets to the point where no one wants to do Suikoden II and no one wants to do Suikoden III with me, I'll figure out a way to do the whole damn thing myself (Kirin, you're still down right? Maybe we can tag-team it). But I'm really hoping it doesn't come to that. I'd still like to see someone do II first anyway...I would bite the bullet and do it myself except I don't know the game well enough to do that. I wish I did; it'd solve a lot of problems.

I don't either. I know it reasonably well but I've never even gotten the good ending and never figured out why.

I know why I got the bad ending. My problem is that I've seen the good ending and I like the bad ending more because ITS THE BETTER ENDING SCREW YOU 99% OF THE SUIKODEN FANBASE YOU'RE WRONG. If I did an LP, I'd go for the bittersweet bad ending rather than get the completionist-all-108-stars-yay-we're-happy-ending. This would piss people off, and that ain't right.

I'd still do it anyway, except I don't know the game well enough to do what Brick did and rotate party members. When I played it, I used the same few people the whole game. If I had to use different members each update, I wouldn't know how to break the game and get money to equip them like Brick did. I can do that with III, sure (I've beaten it several times since it was the first Suikoden game I owned and didn't borrow from a friend)...but not II.

I'm jonesing to do one of these for Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (or Alien Crossfire, more likely). I haven't played it in awhile, but a couple years back I played it to the point where I could easily win transcend level AIs.

Alright, if nobody else wants to I'd like to try doing Suikoden II. Like I've said before I don't know it perfectly, but I've beaten it probably a dozen times. It's easily one of my favorite games and I think I'd have a lot of fun showing it off to people.

PM me your address and I'll send you the memory card with my endgame Suiko1 data on it.

Unless you'll be emulating, in which case... uh... I guess don't worry about it!

How exactly were you running Suiko for your thread? I was thinking of using emulation for the sake of simplicity, but I really love the idea of passing one save from LP to LP, so if there's a good way to play it on real hardware I'd like to try it.

You'll need a capture card of some kind (so you can plug your PS2 into your computer monitor) and some software to screenshot it. I use a really low-end USB thing that ran me about $50.

Alternately, they used to sell USB gadgets called Dex Drives that let you copy save files from PSX memory cards onto your computer. I have no idea if those still exist or, if so, if the saves are compatible with the various emulators.

Dex Drives aren't manufactured anymore, but I'm pretty sure you can still buy them online for <$10. As far as I know, the saves are compatible with ePSXe, since they output to .gme, which ePSXe can read.

Yeah, I was most worried about getting the file to actually work with the emulator, but that apparently won't be a problem. Now all I need to do is get the file off the memory card, but I don't think that'll be too hard. ○✗∆□☆'s legacy shall live on!

THANK YOU! People always got mad at me when I said that was the "real ending". It fits the flow of the game so much better. Super Spoilers: I loved Nanami to death but that's what made her death REAL. Then in the end vs Jowy I kept that "But thou must" loop going for ages!

You people are crazy and the "real" ending of Suiko2 is by far the best.

[With the "real" ending it's a story of betrayal, tragedy, and ultimately redepmtion. The bad ending is just a story of betrayal and tragedy.

Herokid and Jowy do what Han and Genkaku couldn't. That's the point.

(And I say this as someone who doesn't particularly like Herokid, Jowy, or Nanami. =P)

I'm still down for an eventual Suiko III sharing assuming I can find a good way to do captures. As I mentioned elsewhere, if the PS3 implements universal screenshotting that would be ideal for me. Other than that, I'm on an old-ish Mac with no video capture, so my options are limited.

I really like the idea of something where I can do chapters and pass off, though, since although I'd love to do some LP action I don't feel like I have the free time to do a whole game at a decent rate of updates. Being able to take time off while other people do their chapters sounds great. (Ideally passing a save around if possible, but even if not, blowing through other chapters locally to match what they did without having to screenshot is sure to be much faster.)

Suikoden 2 would have been better if it had just focused on the main storyline. They didn't need that whole "war" subplot. I mean, when I play Suikoden 2, I'm here to battle The Organization with Hai Yo, not unite Faux Asia to battle some stupid Faux European Country

I've been having to use Hoi + Double Beat. Which isn't great because I don't think Hoi joins until after you beat Luca and you can't realistically get a Double Beat Rune until you finish the Tinto events.

And you just know whoever has to play Suikoden 2 is going to get stuck with Tuta nonstop.

Untrue. They drop off the monsters in the very first mountain area between Jowston and Highland. If you're patient you can get as many as you like.

That's why I said realistically. You can also get Technique Runes (like the one Hoi has in his weapon) from the same enemies, but it's extremely, extremely, extremely rare.

But boy would it be great for Suikoden 2 Hero to have a Technique in his weapon and Double Beat that early in the game. You'd never ever have problems with money.

i got a double beat early on and stuck it on shiro, and that pretty much won me the game. when you see him attack 8 fucking times around...jeez.

They're not extremely extremely extremely rare. Just merely rare.

To put it in perspective a bit, I like to get an early Double-beat for Nanami. So I save in that mountain, then run it. If I don't have one before I get to the boss, I reset. I do this because I don't like to burn clock time. I seldom have to run the dungeon more than three or four times, and it's relatively short.

I never gave up! If only for the novel idea of having the LP be my first ever exposure to the game, I want in. Although I'd be way happier if the PS3 added that screen capture option first, since I don't want to find a way to run this through my PC if I can avoid it.

And if they add it, I'll finally allow The Boyfriend to get a PS3, then promptly steal it for another insane messageboard project.

I just spent the last 4 hours of my life beating Hydlide, and then writing about the games finale.

You people will never, NEVER be able to fully appreciate how much I just suffered for your enjoyment.

Anyhow, I want to do Nightshade next. The awesome Point & Click/Beat 'em Up hybrid, not the mediocre Shinobi spin-off.

I know that's the point, but I just think it's way more interesting to see [the cycle continue rather than YAY LETS ALL GO ON AN ADVENTURE THE END.]

That's right, it would be your first time through...

Then it's settled. You're Hugo.

By the way, many moons from now when Suiko II and III are done, and assuming I can get a way to get a PS2 emulator to work (or find a way to take captures off of my PS2), I'm willing to take on IV. Because I know no one else is going to want to.

I got one without grinding. I kept it on Viktor for most of the game. With that and a Violence Rune, (always berserk) he was one of my best damage dealers right to the end.

We do have a pretty staunch Suiko4 apologist skulkiing around here somewhere.

I preferred Nanami since she has a decent shot of scoring double-hits anyway, which then turn into triple-hits. Violence is a good idea too of course, but it's pretty trivial to get everyon Berserk with Herokid's L3 Shield spell.

Really? We do? Well if they want it, then that's fine. But if not then whatever. SIII is the one I know inside and out, but I have beaten SIV twice so I know what to do. If it gets to the point where someone needs to do it and it hasn't been done yet, then I'll do it. The real question is should we use the training room glitch or not? Yes, yes we should. Level 99 [Ted] ftw!
