So, then we have this as the current queue:
June 1: Spineshark (Persona 2 Innocent Sin and Persona 2 Eternal Punishment) and The Red Hedgehog (The Bard's Tale, original flavor?) June 8: Tanto (Fire Emblem GBA/The Blazing Sword) and FyreLuigi (Pokemon Yellow) June 15: Dosboot (Shadowrun) and Octopus Prime (Legend of Zelda: The Second Quest) June 22: Pombar (Treasure of the Rudras) and Zithuan (Kagero: Deception II) June 29: silent_snake18 (Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon) and Alixsar (Ogre Battle 64) July 6: Turnip (Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers) and PapillonReel (Bahamut Lagoon) Sorry dosboot I'm not sure if you were saying that you were throwing your hat into the ring or not, so I put you down for the 15th, if that's ok. I want to do mine too, but since it looks like we're pretty RPG heavy for the next little while, I'm gonna wait a week or two and see how you quickly the rest of this goes. Queue subject to Parish's approval. Last edited by Pajaro Pete; 06-03-2008 at 10:18 AM. Reason: Updating |

As I've said since I put my name forwards, I'm free after the 20th of June, so put me on for the following Monday. I've got an idea or two for an ok Treasure of the Rudras run.

I was trying to remind people that this is exactly what happened last time (confusion over whether there really is a queue and then the new slots end up being a free for all). |

I'm kind of hoping to get mine signed sealed and delivered before I go on Vacation, so put me down for June 15th.

And you'll be doing The Second Quest?

So sayeth the first post on this thread, yes.
It's very hard and not very fun. |

If we are calling dibs, June 29th is perfect for me. My classes will be over.

If we're going to start making a queue for these things, I'd like to start late-June sometime. That way I'll be able to wrap up Persona 3, play through MGS4, and then work on OB64 until Soul Calibur IV comes out. It'd be perfect. Erm, provided I can beat P3 and MGS4 in time that is...

Well then erring on the side of caution, how does the 29th strike you?

I request LPAs of more crappy games that we wouldn't have played anyway. Like that NES Transformers game where I game overed on the first enemy.

I've been thinking, though not too seriously, about doing a Let's Play of some sort for Diablo II. I'm not sure how I would approach the game though. There are three ways I could go about it:
1) Create one of the super characters (Whirlwind Barbarian, Meteorb Sorceress, Summoning Necromancer, etc.) and show how to build the character and tackle the game with it. While this might make for an educational thread, it could also be very boring for everyone involved, myself included. 2) Come up with an insane, gimped character build and see how far I could take it in the game. Other players much better than myself have done this before, and to very entertaining effect. Spineshark recently mentioned a guy who tried out crazy characters like a melee Sorceress and a spell casting Barbarian. And one mustn't forget the legendary Irene the Infirm, who took on the forces of evil with nothing but her bare fists. While I don't claim to be as skilled or knowledgeable as the people who played those characters, I'm pretty sure I could handle myself fairly well. The problem would be coming up with the character idea, though that could be something that everyone else could contribute ideas for. 3) Run an entirely Talking Time created character, letting forum members choose my class and skill point distribution and maybe other things. This could be an interesting option. So yeah, I'm thinking about it. If anyone has any ideas, especially for wacky character builds, let me know. |

Option 3 seems like the most fun to me. I say go for it.

Option 4) Everyone has played Diablo II to death, and it doesn't have a lot of potential for fun screenshots either.
Guys, the Something Awful Let's Plays are usually about showing people a game they wouldn't otherwise have known about. For the Tyrants, Mega Man/Diablo/Metal Gear Solid should be totally uninteresting. |

Even if just about all of us have played a certain game, even something like Metal Gear or Mega Man, there are definitely those among us who know much more about it than the rest. It would take an extremely ubiquitous experience to rule out that wonderful educational aspect.

Even then, just because most people have played a game doesn't mean that everyone has. I haven't played Diablo II so it would fit the SA paradigm for me perfectly.

As I said, I'm not exactly dead set on doing a DII LP to begin with, but if I do attempt it I'll do my best to make it both interesting and educational. My knowledge of Diablo II is fairly extensive, so I'm pretty sure I could teach most readers a thing or two about the game.
On the other hand, I have taken this into consideration. The other option I'm considering for a LP is Vandal Hearts, a game that I also know inside and out and that I feel doesn't get nearly the respect it deserves. |

The only people I know to like Vandal Hearts are Tim Rogers and Psycho Mantis.

I ... I like Vandal Hearts. But I don't know if I care to be in that company.
I absolutely suck at strat-RPGs, so I didn't make it very far, though. |

Vandal Hearts is a good game, honest! Unfortunately it doesn't get much love because it has long lived in the shadow of Final Fantasy Tactics.
(Also I may be blinded by nostalgia but I don't care.) |

Now that I've finished LttP, I think I'm ready to go ahead with Bahamut Lagoon. Put me down for July 6th - by then, I should have all the minutiae planned out and ready to roll, and it should be enough to give everyone on the queue a chance to go as well.

I briefly considered doing an LP of Gemfire for the NES.
Then I realized that I have not ever played Gemfire, I just liked the name of it. So.... yeah. |

I've played Gemfire for the SNES. It's pretty much an easy-mode (and greatly simplified) version of KOEI's Genghis Khan and Nobunaga's Ambition titles. Therefore, the most fun to play.

Well, there we go then. Now I have an inspiration to play it for reasons other then "I like the title".

I've played through Gemfire about 5 or 6 times on the SNES and Genesis. If you do a Let's Play start off where you only have that tiny island, it's the only way.

Tiny islands are actually great ways to start from a conquest point of view, since you have a great bottleneck right from the start. Starting in the middle with the most borders to other territories is the hardcore way to do it.

I'm taking my vacation the week of July 21. I'm a broke bastard so I'm not actually going anywhere (well, I am, but not for the whole week), but that would be a good week to slog into another LP.
There are like six games I'm considering. DECISIONS ARE HARD. But I'm in no rush. Whatever I don't do this summer can just wait until fall. This isn't a complaint, but two of my favorite and most well-known games in the universe are kind of off-limits since they're both getting DS remakes before the year is out, and it's like I don't want to play the old version for an LP then turn right around and play the new version, you know? |

I love, love, love the first Vandal Hearts. Something about the idiosyncratic designs, fast pace, and "mature" story really won me over. The 10 second vocal track over the title also really got to me, and I wanted a longer version SO BADLY.
The sequel was one of the most disappointing games I've ever played. In sum: if someone does a let's play, I'd be there with bells on. My copy is an entire country away (I'm from British Columbia, living in St. John's) and the nostalgia would be so, so sweet. Did I mention this was one of my first PS1 games? |
