Sounds good to me. I always thought S+K looked like a fun game at my friends house, but I never owned my own copy.

I thought of a good angle for writing one of these for the game Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon for N64, but I want to wait and see if it will ever come out on VC first (or...not). Good timing and all. Oh and it's crowded right now.

This is an awesome game and I'm glad I'm not the only one holding out hope for a VC release.

Board seems kind of slow this morning... I'm hoping things pick up... Also wondering if anyone knows why/how the Silent Hill LP has stalled?

Pheel couldn't handle the terror. Also the next area is sort of the game's wall where it starts becoming work and is a lot less fun.

So, I was kind of thinking about doing a Baten Kaitos Origins LP. I know it's kind of an obscure game, but looking at the current queue, I don't think that's going to be much of a problem.

What is a problem is that I'll have to invest in a DVR or one of those things (Dangles? Dazzles?) that allow you to route a game system to your computer, and that might take a while for me to obtain. So things are on hold for the moment.

In the meantime, I might try a Fire Emblem 7 LP, since no additional equipment is required and I know that game about as well as any I've played in the last ten years or so, but that's still in the "mulling over" stages.

Oh my gosh how did I make it through life before seeing that?

So I think I'm going to work on this one starting about tomorow or so and hopefully by the time the timing is right it will be all done for posting and there will be a consistent spread. I'm going to focus on the setting of the game (i.e. Japan) and the authenticity of it...and lack of, seeing as the areas were actual areas in Japan. It will be done in the style of a travel brochure, and maybe even have the layout of one if I can get it to work. And, of course, humor will ensue as well.

Don't make it too gimmicky. When I read a Let's Play, I'm really just looking for someone's informal running commentary on a game, so anything that obscures or pads that is just overwrought.

Also, you may want to look at this site for help with the Japanese cultural references. It specifically refers to the first SNES game, but I'm sure there's some overlap in there.

I appreciate that. This is a new thing for me and I'll take any advice and resources I can get.

Default I was worried...

... That something was wrong, yesterday had very few updates and today there are even less. Then I remembered that here in the States it is Memorial Day weekend and most people (who aren't at work ) are outside in the real world right now...

le sigh

I'm interested to see if someone can do a Let's Play that ISN'T snarky/ridiculous. It's okay to be kind of carefree with it, I guess, but it seems most of them are leaning that way. I think the X-Com one was(is?) pretty technical in tone, but that's exception to the rule I suppose. ;p

Have you checked out poetfox's Arkham Horror LP? It's chock-full of rules-lawyerin' goodness, with a good helping of storytelling thrown in just for fun.

Actually, as I'm making my way through the SA archives, this is bugging me more and more. The Crystalis LP they have up is incredibly juvenile, which is a shame because even though the game isn't really deep there's a lot that could be said about it if it were in the right hands.

I'd go to GameFAQs if I just wanted a dry walkthrough of a game.

Sure, but there have to be more options besides dry, silly, and juvenile. Those styles are pretty easy to do, so I get why it's used; I started a QFG dry run earlier and ran into this problem, which is why I got to thinking about it. I don't, you know, personally have that answer, it's just a question. ;D

I actually stayed away from the Arkham Horror one because I really miss playing 3-4 hour board games with a group. =/ (Guys, we're going to be playing Twilight Imperium today. Yes, today. The whole day.) I may check it out now though.

I wouldn't say writing for comedy is easy. Of course, some games lend themselves to it more than others, but the best LPs all have a great sense of comic timing and clever, unexpected observations. Even Brick's FFI thread had this going on.

Yeah I honestly have been feeling pressure to conform to the whole wackiness tone standard that has been set by all of the other threads just because I thought that that was the point. Not that I'm naturally humorless or anything. It's just that with what I want to do with mine, turning it up to 11 all the time would seem forced. I'm honestly hoping there is some interest in different ways of doing it that are still interesting. Also, I really like those threads that heavily involve the audience, even though I understand they all can't be like that. (Lone Wolf, Arkham, Legend of Mana)

Well, that's kind of what I was getting at. Can you get an LP that DOESN'T rely on this, and still be engaging?

I'm wondering if part of it is just dependant on the audience; do the participants want to buy into the game, or is it more fun to just mock it and go the parody route? And can the former be fun for readers as well as participants? Because obviously anyone can read along in a thread and laugh at the jokes no matter where they jump in.

The "mock/parody" thing is what bugs me about a lot of the LPs I'm reading from the SA archives. It's one thing to poke fun at the game, and another thing entirely to just come off like you're not having any fun.

I think parody/humor is alright for the raising sim games (Princess Maker 2, Monster Rancher 1+2). On the other hand, there's a Secret of Mana Let's Play currently running on SA that's... well... you can look at it yourself.

The worst though are the video ones with commentary by the player because commentary consists of "HAHA LOOK AT THIS SHIT YOU GUYS IT'S FUCKING CRAZY HAHAHAHA"

It's not that Secret of Mana or any other game isn't conducive to humorous commentary. It's just that the guy writing that particular thread is a halfwit who doesn't know what he's doing.

It's also the 12,000th time I've seen the "make the girl character wear skimpy armor!" joke.

Like, I'd make one if the opportunity arose, but I'd at least have the common decency to feel ashamed.

Yea, the title's kind of a clue that it's going to be pretty sophomoric, but still, it makes those first couple of LP posts of mine look thoughtful by comparison.

Sigh...SOM is one of my favourite games ever. I wither inside to see shit and fart jokes applied to it.

I plan to just have fun with my Mega Man X LP. If anyone has a problem with that, they can line up for a very hilarious shot to the teeth.

Is it too late to call dibs on Contra/Super C/Alien Wars? I didn't see them on the list in the OP, and I'd like to do them (in, like, a fucking year when everyone else is done with theirs) in the same fashion IssunBug is doing his Mega Man 1-6 LP.

So, uh, dibs.

Did we really ever end up deciding if you can call dibs on more than 1 game, and/or whether you can do more than 1 game back to back?
