I think the rule is "use common sense." Like, don't call FF2 through 12 or something. Probably the only time it makes sense to pick more than one game is if it's a series of short games.

Considering how slow these go, even "short" games draw out if you're unwilling/unable to update frequently. I wish people would just go with one game and then see where they are after that.

I speak only for myself, but those three games are so short that I would do them all and capture the screens before starting the thread. Then update the thread everyday until they were done.

But that's less "Let's Play" and more "Look, I Played."

I'm going to do a Let's Play for Culdcept (PS2). Given the overall dearth of Let's Play updates this weekend, and me finally overcoming some technical hurdles, I've already started working.

The first entry is ready, but I feel like I should hold off posting to avoid any potential toe-stepping. My current level of free time does ensure regular updates, but I figured I'd see if there are any objections first?

I wouldn't take the slowness of updates this weekend to mean anything since 1) It may be harder to update on weekends for some people and 2) Since it's a 3-day weekend in the US, many people will be doing other things.

Most people on this forum seem to prefer having fewer ongoing LPs at once and if we're being nice to people who have asked to do games earlier and are waiting for current LPs to finish, I think you should wait for quite a few to finish.

Yeah, less seems to be the consensus forum wide, and we're still being told to hold off after the current crop finishes, so it'll be a while.

So hang out, sit on that update for a while. It'll be fun when we get to it.

Yeah, I think calling for Mega Man 1 through 6 is a bit much, especially since Mega Man 3 isn't a short jaunt through the park and Mega Man 2 is just epic on its own.

Given the length of those games, I'd be done before most people checked the forum again.

I miss the day-to-day routine of playing and writing up for my Dragon Warrior Lets Play.

If only there were.. I dunno.. I mean, I wish they'd made a Dragon Warrior sequel, you know? I can imagine that series going on for awhile!

;D

Put me down for Quest for Glory, I guess. I'm still trying to figure out if it'd even make a decent LP, but I can always have you strike it off later if it turns out I can't make it work. =p

EDIT: And after finishing off first game again, I think I DO see a way for this to work; mainly asking "okay, what direction should we explore now?" and that kind of thing. Should keep interest/participation up. Will wait a week or so to make sure it still seems like a good idea and see how much traffic the current threads are getting before starting, though.

I know, I know, but regardless of the sequels existing it'll probably be six months or more before my turn came up in this queue. I mean, assuming this subforum lasts that long.

Also, part 2 isn't exactly the highlight of the series.

The queue is a bad idea. I think I've mentioned that before. =)

Yeah, but at least it's better than the first one.

(Yes, I think I'm trying to start a Dragon Quest flame war with this post)

Pounding a rusty nail through your foot is better than playing DQ1.

DQ1 is way, way better than DQ2.

You've been institutionalized. Your only hope is to up stumps and go to an island in Mexico. I saw it in a movie once.

EDIT: Or you could, you know, start planning another LP

Then fuck the queue and go ahead. Your thread is one of the highlights, and you update it frequently and make it a lot of fun. No one will complain.

Other NES part 2s that aren't exactly the highlight of their series:

Final Fantasy 2
Fire Emblem 2
Super Mario Bros 2
Zelda 2 (though I do like these last two)

EDIT: Also, it's not like there's any formal queue.

Even if we had a formal queue, I think we should let LP veterans skip it. Let's face it, most of the LPs started won't be finished (for whatever reason), so don't make the people we know are capable of going the distance wait around forever.

(Note: this is a completely selfish suggestion.)

Now that I think about it I really don't have time to play through DW2+ right now- there is just a little over two weeks until Metal Gear Solid 4. After that I might just bite the bullet and take a stab at another one if no one has any objections, though.

I think that Mario 2 is brilliant. If you tried to measure it objectively to Mario 3 or SMW it might come up short, but it's so different that doing so seems misguided. I think it's held up beautifully after all these years and is remarkably unique even after 2 decades of new game releases.

I have very fond memories of Zelda 2, which I will one day put to the test by replaying it (if I ever get a Wii).

EDIT: Brickroad, if you want to start 3 concurrent LPs, I will petition for you to get your own subforum.

The queue may not be a great idea, but neither is just going willy nilly. There's gotta be some middle ground.

Add Castlevania II and StarTropics II as well.

At least Cheatahmen II was awesome!

That would probably be the best way to relive it, because of the saved states. The level system is a pain in the ass if you have to, you know, live your live and can't play to 8000 experience in a single game. But other than that, it's a great game. The big secret of the Zelda series is that the combat for the 3D games is more related to Zelda II than anything else, but a lot of the fans try to pretend Zelda II is sooooo bad.

I've found that I fizzle out on any Let's Play for a game I haven't played myself, so I'm in favor of starting more because that'll make it more likely that I'm familiar with the game and will learn something new!

Yeah, I'm in more of the "everyone should get a chance to try a let's play before people who have already gone" camp. But I also think there should be a limit as to how many are going at once and probably a more formal structure for who goes when. So, whatever. I have the first two posts of Bard's Tale ready to go and I can wait until the appropriate time.

EDIT: And who knows? Maybe most of the current LPs have actually died and we'll get a big new influx soon.

FOUR-JESTER PARTY, GO.

You know what, it's not Toriyama, but that Dragon Warrior III box art, in my opinion, still rocks really hard.

Holy crap, I just noticed the foremost sword hilt in that picture is actually the Crest of Loto.

Ditto. I think that if you've finished a game and your thread has a 5-star rating, you automatically get to go whenever the hell you want.

Mark me down as doing Fire Emblem 7 (aka Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword, aka Fire Emblem with no subtitle because Nintendo didn't want us dumb 'Murcins getting confused). I will definitely be going ahead with that once my plate and the forum's plate is clearer.
