Yeah, seriously guys. The joke was funny at first, but enough's enough.

It makes it awful difficult to come up with new jokes, too.

Remember the Chrono Trigger podcast? Someone needs to do the Sharkey approach and name a bunch of the main characters after the main villian. ("Lavos: we have to get Lavos in order to fight Lavos!")

I remember doing FF7 with everyone called Sephiroth. That was kinda dumb.

Naming the main character something like "Kiddo" or "Sport" would be great for making like everyone else in the game look like asses.

i like pants >

To me it's gone past joke into just the thing we do. And if life's about anything, it's about mindlessly aping the ways of the past.

I am seriously never going to name my LP guy PANTS.

I'm just contrary like that.

By the way I'm pretty sure I've picked what game I'm doing come July, and I'm all hell of excited.

I'm still working on getting FFX-International to play in an acceptable way but I think I'm going to be able to keep my start date. To sum things up: do not attempt to mod your own PS2. And emulators still suck for beefier games like this.

I like giving mine the internal consistancy with names. Or perhaps I've said too much?

Anyhow, I was thinking about it today, and I really want to do Tombs & Treasure, the heck with whether or not anyone wants it!

Mr.Reel? I call Dibs on it.

I'm definitely naming my sword (or whatever I end up getting saddled with by the mob mind) Pants when I run Vagrant Story. Not that it counts for much.

I am strongly opposed to this Pants backlash.

I've nothing against PANTS alone, just don't make every name suggestion a variation of it. Geez.

I'm one of the (apparently) five people who actually played Tombs & Treasure, so I'm looking forward to it, at least.

Well, after getting my summer all planned out, and hopefully with as many distractions out of the way as possible, I've decided on a potential date!

I'd like to start my Pokemon Emerald LP on August 3rd, if it's ok to reserve that far in advance. Depending on how long it runs, there'll be an interruption for moving back into the dorms, but otherwise I should be a-ok.

I've just got a few more details to work out, but otherwise I've thought up a few ways to make sure it's not just any old Pokemon playthrough. Also, it will be a PANTS free zone. Consider HATS as an alternative.

Or, y'know, an actual name.

Okay, I want to do a run through my game before I fire it up in July to make sure I'm up to snuff. I've narrowed it down to two selections:

1) Crystalis (NES / Action RPG)
Pros: Fun game, easy to find, very nice graphics. Probably no longer than my FF1 LP.
Cons: No major audience participation (beyond the hero's name, which won't be PANTS). Can't really be broken, so no "wow!" factor. Some grinding required.

2) Suikoden (PSX / RPG)
Pros: Awesome characters and story. Nice and short for an RPG. Lots of stuff to show off. Lots of opportunities for audience participation (build my party as you go!), though the hero's name still won't be PANTS. I think I probably know some awesome stuff about the game you guys don't.
Cons: Hard to find, so anyone who wants to jump in will probably be out of luck unless they already own the game (see also: recent Suikoden Fun Club). Capture card is inferior to emulators for screenshots (at least mine is) so the images might be crazy.

I was PMed by a person a while ago asking to not do Crytalis because he wanted to do it, but then he later recanted saying he probably wouldn't have time anyway.

WHAT DO THE MASSES WANT? Whichever one I don't do now I might could do down the road.

I'm always a Suikofan though Suikoden 2 is far superior. I vote in favor of Suikoden only because it might lead to Suikoden 2.

I'm slightly more interested in seeing a Crystalis LP since I could never really get into the game, but I can go either way really. Just go with whatever one you think you can do a better job of.

Also: Last time I checked, there are decent PS1 emulators out there. I played some Suiko2 (and Final Fantasy Tactics) on one of them a few years ago and I imagine they've only gotten better. Though when I did that memory card saving didn't work so the whole carry-over-data thing didn't work between games. Probably not the case any longer.

I remember my sister used to be a member of a Suikoden fanfiction message board where each forum poster would write stories for certain characters or something.... Probably part of why I never played the game even though I was interested in it, so it gets my vote.

I've written up a suikoden side story. I've had a map of the suiko world on my wall. I've got a full set of the CCG, all of the soundtracks, a suiko ipod, two sets of figurines AND the business cards of the lead designer.

so there.

/somehow i don't think i'm winning here

I knew there was a Suikoden CCG video game - Suikoden Card Stories? - and, like, piles of manga, but I missed that one! @_@

Go for Suikoden baby!

Use an emulator if it gives better screens, not to mention how turbo/save states will make your life so much easier. I'm pretty sure using an emulator in this case qualifies as legit, it says so in the Constitution (might be written somewhere on the back).
