Let's see what the agenda is, first. I don't think we'd want the debate to last longer than this time tomorrow, in any case.

Actually, how about this for voting: If no one has posted an argument within 12 hours of Googleshng posting his agenda, we'll move on to a vote. If anyone does so within the time limit, debate will continue until up to 24 hours after the agenda is posted. If the prevailing view seems to be a desire to vote earlier, we can do so. Sound reasonable?

In fact, since you need to tap planets for Influence to vote, you can't be forced to vote.

You don't tap the planets for Influence, your voting power is just the number of untapped Influence planets. Nothing is lost when you vote.

Forced to play a political card eh? Well, since I get to be one of the last to vote, might as well throw this weird little number out there:

Mutiny
“It is a question of honor!”
For: Each player that voted for this agenda gains 1 victory point.
Against: Each player that voted for this agenda loses 1 victory point.

So if the "for" side wins, everyone who voted yea gets a point, but if the "against" side wins, everyone who voted nay loses a point?

No, I think if it wins everyone who voted yes gets a VP but if it fails everyone who voted yes loses one. Question is, can you go into negative VPs?

Pretty sure it's that if the nays win, everyone who voted yea loses a point. So... you can go with the flow and probably get a free point, or a couple people can start going that way, then everyone else can be a jerk and smack'em down.

Basically I just didn't feel like playing the sensible card I had.

You can't go into negative VPs, so if you vote against and lose, you just stay at zero. I don't see that much to debate about the agenda, honestly, aside from figuring out what it's saying.

Oh, and before I forget, recent turns! You may notice I've stopped stacking GF graphics on top of the ships carrying them, opting for simple numbers instead. That'll make it easier to keep track of things without messy visuals.

The Mentak Coalition makes reaches out and coalesces someone.

The Universities, er, educate some neighboring territories.

The Federation sends a lone Destroyer on a survey mission to a space anomaly.

Making a large map is time-consuming, so I'm going to skip it for now. I'll definitely post a large one at the end of the round, but maybe not before then.

Vote for and lose you mean. Neither outcome effects you if you vote against it. It's just that the people who vote for it either gain or lose a point depending on whether it passes or fails.

Lucas, would you mind recalling that vote? I think voting order will matter for agendas, since someone might change their vote depending on which way the wind is blowing (which is how it's meant to be done — it's an advantage to vote later in the order).

If there are no objections before then, we can end debate and start voting at noon PST. Egarwaen (Yin) first, then clockwise around the board.

A camera pans across the surface of Muaat. Fires smolder everywhere, for no apparent reason. From behind a boulder, an Ember sits up and clutches his head. "Oh man, guys, I think we drank a little too much heavy element last night. I'm pretty sure Sally actually went Nova... Wasn't there a city here when I fell over?"

Other heads poke up, and one of them jabs at the speaker urgently and points at a flaming watch on its wrist. "Shit! The Galactic Council meeting! We hella forgot! Quick, someone call my space-car!"

The Embers of Muaat vote Aye, with 1 vote from their exhausted planets

Yeah `Hrist, you vote for or against Mutiny, with the effect of a majority vote either way as described.

Voting in strict order seems to go pretty slowly, so this might be another aspect of the game the bears modifying for easier play in a PBF format on future votes.

But for now, Stiv votes next.

OK, so voting seems like it'll take a really long time to resolve this way and no one has any points to lose, so let's forget the voting order this time — if we have a hotly debated agenda in the future we can always reinstate it. Voting is now open to all, with the exception of severian, who votes last and breaks ties.

I vote aye, because I like points and have nothing to lose. Taking Lucas' original vote into account, I think the tally is, so far:

Aye: 6
Nay: 0

I'm voting Aye eventually since, well, no real downside to doing so at this point. Also, in the interest of speeding things up, I'm going to be activating the secondary off this once we're done with the voting to refresh Capha and Arnor. Which will leave me with...

Strategy Allocation: 3

Nar - 2/3
Capha - 3/0
Arnor - 2/1
Jol - 1/2
Lor - 1/2 (Red Tech Bonus)

Also, while it doesn't matter now since the tech card's already been played, but tech bonuses don't require resources from the planet they're on to be spent to get them, do they?

Nope, they don't. Resources are universal, and tech specs still work if a planet is exhausted.

Yeah, some of the Political Cards don't have the clearest names vs. effects. It's not really about being in favor of a mutiny so much as being in favor of getting a VP.

Mutiny's really a weird name for this card. Vote of No Confidence or something else overtly political would make more sense.

I don't want the voting to hold up the game much longer than it has, so let's put a time limit on this: Any votes not in by 9 p.m. PST today will be assumed abstained.

severian, you can wait till then or post your vote earlier, your choice. Also, everyone can feel free to announce if they're taking the secondary Assembly action and resolve it anytime today; I don't see any reason it should wait till voting's over.

I've only got 1 vote this time, so I'll put it in with the For votes.

Adding 1 to the vote, not sure what the current tally is.

If anyone's sitting back and not voting because they figure it'll pass anyway and everyone will get the point, remember that you only get your VP if it passes and you voted Yea on it.

But I doubt anyone is doing that.

Yeah, I think Stiv just hasn't been in to check out the thread for a bit. Must be busy with "work" or "his life" or whatever.

Some pages of this thread are blocked at work, so I'm not able to go back and dig up how many unexhausted Influence planets people have, but here's the list of votes and the number for the ones I've found.

1. Egarwaen - 1 vote For
2. Stiv - no vote yet
3. Ephithet - 1 vote For
4. Lucas - 1 vote For
5. `Hrist - 1 vote For
6. Sarcasmorator - 1 vote For
7. Googleshng - 3 vote For
8. severian (SPEAKER) - 1 vote For

Total Votes: 9 For, 0 against

The vote is almost unanimous! Unless Stiv has around 10 or more Influence to throw around, the Mutiny is successful. So, now we're just waiting to see if Stiv wants to get in on the mutinous actions (maybe some plundering too?).

Everyone except me can spend a command counter from Strategy Allocation to refresh your tiny planet cards (combined 6 or less resource/influence).

I believe Googleshng had 3 votes (with an unexhausted Nar) and everyone else had 1 vote.

OK, so it turn out Stiv is super busy with work and travel for the next three weeks or so. For now I'm going to play his turns. I've asked him if he'd rather I find someone to take over or simply hand control back to him when he's able to play more regularly, so we'll see. As it was when I took over the Sardakk for a bit, the Mindnet can take objectives but can't win the game.

The L1Z1X Mindnet votes for the Mutiny agenda. Since the measure has passed unanimously, everyone now gets a Victory Point. Nine more to go for the win!

RETROACTIVELY ADDED BECAUSE I FORGOT BEFORE: The L1Z1X Mindnet also spends 1 Command Counter from Strategy Allocation to execute the Assembly secondary, refreshing [0.0.0].

COMMAND COUNTERS
Command Pool: 2
Fleet Supply: 3
Strategy Allocation: 2

Here's a quick recap of play order since the original one is back on page 2:

1. Googleshng — Leadership
2. Sarc — Diplomacy II
3. severian (SPEAKER) — Assembly
4. Egarwaen — Production
5. `Hrist — Trade II
6 Epithet — Warfare
7. L1Z1X Mindnet — Warfare II
8. Lucas — Technology II

Egarwaen is up.
