Looks like it works. I'll leave Ramza where he is, because I don't want to break anything by not having him (unless someone can confirm taking him out is fine).

Quick question: What skills are covered under Item? Assuming you aren't letting us use X-Potions.

Phoenix Down is banned. All other Chapter 1 items should be fair game. So Potion, Antidote, Eye Drop, Echo Grass, Maiden's Kiss, Soft, and Hi-Potion.

Source

Mogri should confirm.

So apparently, if you only edit the actual stats, they'll revert back to whatever it's calculating from the "real stats" when you blink. Yaaaaaaay.

Right, there's some trick to making the raw stats reflect the displayed stats in FFTastic. If you don't figure it out sooner, I'll try fooling around with it tomorrow and get back to you.

They're proportional, so it's a simple fix. Still annoying.

I'll see if I can get all the teams in by...this weekend, let's say.

Also, do you know if removing Ramza would cause issues? Because if I can get rid of him, that's four teams I can fit to a save, and only three without.

I was trying to see if I could do something with the CLF thing it mentioned so you could have all of the teams in one file, then just move them to the save as you need them, but I have no idea how the CLF thing works at all (or rather, I can't find where it says "create new"), so I scrapped that idea pretty quick.

Yes, you can scrap Ramza as long as you don't trigger any story battles. Make sure to set the gender and sprite appropriately.

I never got the CLF thing to work.

I don't have a definite start date. If someone else wants to take the reins, feel free.

So I guess this never got off the ground? Did anyone ever decide if they'd be able to run it or not? Does anyone still want to?

Mogri didn't have time and neither me, Destil, nor turtle stepped up enough.

The computer I was going to do it on is dead now.

I still have access to the team files, if anyone can run the battles.

It's winter, which means I never go downstairs, which means I'm not recording. But, believe it or not, this hasn't fallen off my radar.

still rather have someone else do it, but... well.

So despite having a frost warning the other night, I'm pretty sure it's not winter anymore.

I was just thinking about this yesterday, believe it or not...

I stuffed my files into Dropbox a few months ago so that I could theoretically record on my laptop. I haven't touched it since. As always, anyone is welcome to do the recording, but I can't promise a firm timeline right now.

Hello talking time peoples.

I just want you all to know that there's a different FFT AUTOBATTLE tournament going on right now at Final Fantasy HACKTICS. It uses a customized mod WITH customized abilities. It's a different flavor of autobattles. I think I've mentioned it before but here's a link to the website. Here's a video of the types of videos that get posted...

Hey guys how's it

SO. I ran into some problems getting this set up. cough First, the team files I got didn't work; then, I couldn't get FFTastic to run (you need to run it in administrator mode); then, my first recording got eaten. But all things considered, I feel like it went okay.

If the first recording had worked, though...

In case you've forgotten (how dare you), this is double-elimination. As in previous tournaments, the losing player has a one-time opportunity to perform some team edits.

READ AFTER WATCHING PLEASETHANKS
Both teams have some real flaws. Destil's team relies almost entirely on BURN for damage, and a team that can put her down (as mine managed in the scrapped recording) leaves his team scrambling to put her back on her feet.

For all its flaws, I feel like my team is very close to functional. Xavier and Gambit perform their roles perfectly aside from Gambit using weak Throws. Wolverine and Cyclops need an AI change. Arguably, Support Xavier is not pulling his weight on the team, but I have a soft spot for Last Song, and this is the only format where it's even possibly worth using, so he stays.

Xavier: No changes.

Gambit: Throw -> Throw [Axe]

Wolverine: Protect allies (Wolverine) -> Save fading life

Cyclops: Protect allies (Wolverine) -> Protect allies (Gambit)

Isn't throw axe not allowed in this format?

Hey neat. Thanks for running, Mogri!

Is the speed noticeably increased from previous videos? I had a hard time following this one.

Battles in this format are interesting! Since all the god tier strategies are locked you don't just watch one super unit sweep the battlefield and party strategy and synergy become more important.

You're right. It'll have to be Throw Sword.

The settings are the same as before, but I'm on a more powerful computer. It's running at 200 fps, more than three times normal speed. I'm pretty sure I can throttle it -- I'll try 120 for the next video.

No idea. They wouldn't open in ePSXe or FFTastic.

FYI, I've made the following team changes:

aturtledoesbite: Nils's movement ability changed to Move +3 from Move +2; Ninian's movement ability changed to Move +2 from Move +3. This was done because Move +3 is illegal on Ninian.

Precarious: Zeddemore's AI changed to Protect Allies (Zeddemore) from Protect Allies (no target specified). Precarious can request an alternate AI for that unit within the next 48 hours.

Regulus: Castor's accessory changed to Diamond Armlet (+1 PA, +1 MA, Immune: Slow) from Power Wrist (+1 PA).

In hindsight, I think I could have safely kept Wiznaibus on the legal dance list. It does deal decent damage at a very fast rate, but it triggers reaction abilities like crazy. In particular, anyone with Auto-Potion is nearly invincible against a Wiznaibus team... and every team is carrying Auto-Potion... so maybe it's for the best that Wiznaibus didn't make it into the tournament after all. But I extend my apologies to one-year-ago-Solitayre anyway.

There are a lot of other abilities that could be used (to varying degrees of theoretical effectiveness) against Wiznaibus:
  • Critical Quick*
  • Damage Split
  • Dragon Spirit
  • HP Restore
  • MP Switch**
  • Regenerator
  • Speed Save*
  • Sunken State (maybe?)
* These are probably best if paired with some healing ability.
** This would probably be incredible if paired with a Chakra user. Spell Absorb would work but not as well.

And there's also Move-HP Up.

Also, I learned something interesting while looking through the Battle Mechanics Guide - Sing and Dance don't work on Sleeping targets.

Last edited by Torzelbaum; 10-17-2015 at 10:24 PM. Reason: Wiznaibus is not a "countergrasp" activator.

I'll let you live this time.

If/when I lose, would you let me swap it in or are you going to stick to your original ruling? I do have a dancer after all.

Sure. If you want to swap it in, it's your funeral. Meira's Wiznaibus is 8 damage per tick. An opponent with Auto-Potion would have to whiff four counters in a row to break even against her.

You could boost that to 10 per tick by switching her to Monk (or Samurai, but there are no Samurai weapons available). It still wouldn't kill an Auto-Potion user, but it would do a number on the rest of the team. You'd still need to watch out for anyone with HP Restore, Critical Quick, Speed Save, Damage Split, A Save, or MA Save. (Wiznaibus doesn't trigger Dragon Spirit, Transparent doesn't prevent Wiznaibus, and Regenerator doesn't benefit from being constantly triggered.)

Despite all that, I think Wiznaibus is at least theoretically menacing. If you can slice the enemy team down to a single Auto-Potion user, then your other three teammates shouldn't have too much trouble getting their attacks to align against the guy. That's assuming your dancer doesn't get Damage Split to death first, and most teams are. (The rest really should.)

How are you getting that per tick damage? It doesn't quite make sense to me.

More or less true. All that gets you is a longer duration for the regen status.

I'm getting it first and foremost from having accidentally given Sol the full Dance set in my first recording attempt, but if you want the math, the formula is PA + floor(PA * Br / 100). Dancer PA is 5, plus 1 from the Diamond Armlet, so 6 + (6 * .7) = 6 + 4.8, and I am suddenly coming to the uncomfortable realization that FFTastic's math is off.

After some experimentation, I've realized that the error is in FFTastic's calculation of the base stats. We've had enough careful eyes on previous videos that I'm pretty sure our stats were right in those cases. My best guess is that FFTastic is simply inaccurate when calculating for lower values.

That's... really annoying. I guess I know how I'll be spending the next 15 minutes.

I've already recorded Solitayre vs. PrivateJoker, and I don't plan to re-record because both teams were affected, but the stats will be fixed across the board as of the third battle.

So if the math were right I'd be getting 10 damage per dance, which I think is totally viable.
