Well... My crazy build/strategy didn't work. I guess I have no choice. I'll just have to use... a crazier strategy!

And here it is:
Torzelbaum (OK... Maybe it's not all that crazy.)

Still, we keep seeing, time and time again, units with "Run like a rabbit" AI charging headlong into the enemy ranks. Equally as often, we see units with "Save fading life" AI turtling in the corner.

I don't think those AI options actually affect much. You can much more effectively control what your units do by limiting what ability options they have.

Fight for life makes a noticeable difference.

I can see the ones that require targets making a more noticeable difference, since it actually effects who they'll prioritize targetting. The more general strategies seem to just get ignored, though.

I have to agree. My units are set to "Run Like Rabbit" and they both charged forward to fight.

You can't make all of your units run. The AI will always make someone act aggressively. For example, a unit in critical status will run away until it's the only one left on the map.

I've seen that taken even further, although it was on a custom mod.

Two healthy units had permanent "Don't Move". One unit on the opposition in critical. The critical unit just stayed there on the other side of the map and resulted in a stalemate.(it resulted in a stalemate because the "DM" units were right next to crystals but couldn't grab them). If the critical unit ever actually decided to fight it might have won thanks to crystals.

The A.I. is so weird.

I'll let my team ride, unless there are objections?
That battle went pretty well considering I lost.

This is all too complicated for me. I won't bother making changes. I mean hey, I killed that ninja like three times right?

You don't have to change your team, but if you want suggestions, people would be happy to help.

I think it would be interesting if there was an FFT game which had the Gambits from FF12. (But I doubt Mogri would want to run a tournament for that theoretical game - there would be way too many things to set/screw up.)

OK. Changes made, post edited.

Changelog:

Cersei's AI: Save Fading Life -> Fight for Life
Cersei's Faith: 70 -> 40
Cersei's Draw Out: Muramasa, Kiyomori, Murasame -> Muramasa
Cersei's Accessory: Setiemson -> Chantage
Cersei's Armor: Wizard Robe -> Robe of Lords
Jaime's Armor: Robe of Lords -> Chameleon Robe
Jaime's Hat: Ribbon -> Thief Hat
Jaime's Accessory: Chantage -> Setiemson
Jaime's Math Support: All Skills All Sets -> White: Holy, Esuna
Jaime's Reaction Ability: Blade Grasp -> Abandon

Whew. Trying to turn these guys into two focused killing machines.

Anybody have opinions? I thought about Run Like a Rabbit on Jaime, but I want to be sure he'll actually do things all the time.

Will taking the Ribbon off Jaime bite me with Abandon on? Seems like only geomancy and chaos blades are to be feared.

I was originally going for "this is totally the most awesomest unkillable unit you guyz" +1. I'd like to improve the chemist but I can't see how to do that without taking equipment away from the knight. I can't squeeze revival onto the knight without sacrificing something either.

I'm also a terrible person who would like to see how well a non-adapted holy-math-knight does in the losers bracket.

Can you only make changes if you lost? My lack of Ribbon is starting to trouble me.

Yes, it's a one-time thing.

I have changes from Torzelbaum and Gerad, and Jikkuryuu and Elfir have chosen not to change anything. I'll give you another 24 hours to change your minds before we lock in for round 2L. Time for a change of scenery!

I added in changing Jaime's AI to Run Like A Rabbit after seeing how well it worked for reinoe. Team post edited accordingly. I'm done for reals now.

EDIT: I'll also change Jaime's Magic Defense UP to Defense UP.

Here's the pairings for 2L:

19. Jikkuryuu vs. reinoe
20. Torzelbaum vs. Elfir
21. Gerad vs. PrivateJoker
22. Torgo vs. DeeMer

The battleground for 2L and 3W is the Colliery Underground First Floor, part of the Beowulf/Reis sidequest.

Ya know, I always thought mimes were total butt. I don't care what anyone says, "oh you can get them to do some cool stuff by having them blah blah blah" if you want them to copy doing cool stuff, then why don't you make them the class that can do cool stuff?!

But in this format, where duplicates of things actually aren't allowed? A mime copying calculated spells is actually quite handy indeed. I'm a little afraid of what would happen if we squared off, because I think it would degenerate into robin spending all his time picking batman off the ground.

Yeah, maybe... or maybe she'd mimic Demi 2 and murderfry everything.

It would be kind of fantastic if reinoe won the tournament with this team. Pretty long shot, though.

I couldn't help but think how hilarious it would be if Cheesiest would have cast a Height spell, moved to that height, and then got hit by the mimicked action.

That's what I mean. Batman would just keep getting dropped by all the calculated spells flying around, and Robin would spend most of his turns picking him back up instead of healing himself. It might go oon for awhile, but eventually reinoe is gonna land a combination of spells that drops both my guys.

I can see it playing out that way for him vs a lot of teams. As long as he puts them on the defensive first, he'll probably chip them out. His mime is only a liability in that it doesn't really resist damage or status effects, so it'll hit a lot of random roadblocks.

Hey PrivateJoker, how you feeling about this one?

I have to say I'm feeling pretty good about it. Good luck Blade Grasp/Abandoning calced Holies and Draw Out.

(Watch me go the way of Mogri v. Sol in tournament 1).

I dunno, I agree that I might be in some serious trouble with this particular matchup. My only hope is that Batman manages to kill cersei before she can draw out (plausible, he's fast, and has a lot of movement range) while robin simultaneously lands a jump on the math killer (less plausible, he's too slow to get jumps off often)

You've got a fair chance of killing Cersei (can you beat MP switch?) but landing a jump on a hasted 13-speed unit will be tougher. It would do the trick if Robin manages it.
