Bummer. I can reschedule, but I haven't heard either way from anyone so far, so unless I get any requests, it's 11am Pacific/2pm Eastern.
While we anxiously await that, here's a really depressing battle. |

Crap. So apparently the game had the old save data in memory or something? I'm really confused, because the save file has the correct data.
Anyway, have a video that's still rendering! |

I can make 11 AM PDT tomorrow.

Congratulations Destil.
Also, Jean why didn't you use your break skills on the priest!? |

Yeah, I meant Tempest. Obviously I can't tell my team apart. They're so easy to confuse.

Getting ready to go. We'll be live in 20 minutes at http://www.twitch.tv/ttmogri, and you can join the Skype call at surprise-mogri.
Last time, there were some issues with me figuring out the Windows 8 Skype interface, so there's a possibility I'll need help in that department again. |

We're live! If you want to call in, do it now.

And we're done. It's going on YouTube, but for now, you can watch it on http://www.twitch.tv/ttmogri/c/2767396 if you didn't catch it live.
As we discussed on the stream, Destil is running the next tournament. Suggestions for the format? We'd discussed a Chapter 3 Equipment format and a Support Jobs format, but the sky's the limit. A single-class format could also be interesting. (edit) That was fast! |

Unfortunately, I missed most of the finals. I saw enough of it to see that Mogri won. The battles were apparently close enogh that they decided to have an exhibition afterwards, to see if the other team could pull out a victory, which they did.
And I guess Destil is gonna run the next tourney? What format are we gonna run next? It's looking like we'll either run "Chapter 3 equipment" or "Underdog classes only". I'm good with either one, though I'd like to try out a more vanilla format. Since I missed the first tournament, I think using what I've learned about the AI to build a more standardized team would be cool. "Underdog classes only" would be pretty sweet too though, cuz I think that sounds like an interesting format in general. It would actually force a lot of people to relearn how the AI behaves, since totally different sets of options become all that's available. |

Good matches, Mogri.
For tourney 3 I think we should do something vanilla again. Level 35, chapter 3 equipment seems pretty good, but I need to do a run down of the gear list to be sure. The basic banned list Mogri has in the first post feels pretty good for this with two points I'm open on: What Draw Out skills should be banned? I'm likely going to error on the side of caution for the damage dealing draw outs, even if you only allowed the utility skills I think Draw Out would still be a viable support command. Should Hamedo remain banned? Watch the first tourney and see how rarely attacks that Hamedo can counter actually come up. I think being able to build a viable melee dominating unit with it could be interesting. That said the AI is very stupid about triggering it, and it's really annoying if the wielder has a gun or a bow. |

I like the "underdog" classes idea too, although I think that format needs a bit more discussion as to what exactly would be allowed.

Hamedo is OP because it actually triggers really often. Situations where it works don't come up super often, but building a ranged unit with it makes it work way more often. It's not so much that the counters are too good, it's that it's Counter plus Blade Grasp together. It makes it so you don't take damage, while simultaneously countering. I think if it was allowed, units with guns+hamedo would become the norm.

Yeah, the only way I'd allow it is Melee only, on reflection.
But the best reason I still have for banning it is that the AI is stupid about triggering it unnecessarily. |

If we ran the Utility/Underdog format, I think that limiting the skills allowed to things only available from those classes should be the way to go. By that, I mean if we have Archers and Oracles and Time Mages and stuff allowed, you could have an Archer with Time magic etc, but not an Archer with Black Magic, cuz wizards are banned. Otherwise you just end up with, say, a Dancer with Punch Arts and Martial Arts instead of a Monk, or an Oracle with White Magic instead of a White Mage. the actual Samurai units is pretty underused, but Draw Out certainly isn't, and I don't think it should be available in that format. In Chapter 3 though? I dunno, something with damagfe should be allowed, but even Maramasa seems too OP, especially once we limit equipment options and lower everyone's HP values. The Draw Out users won't care, cuz Wizard Robes are still available.

Yes, if classes are restricted skills from restricted classes will generally be banned.

Here's a silly thought : if the next tournament is Chapter 3 equipment only then it should be 3 character teams.

That's a somewhat interesting idea. The thing about unlimited doubles that made it really interesting was that BOTH your characters had to be really well optimized, and work together well, or you'd get crushed. In the first tournament, one really powerful character *coughcough*cersei*cough* could just carry your whole team, and I'm wondering if that's because one uber character lives too long when having lots of useless meat shields around? Fewer characters makes it a little easier to optimize the cooperation among your units, and makes the combat less chaotic overall.

Don't let this die, guys! What format do people want?
Chapter 3 equipment? Utility classes only? (if this gets picked, we'll decide what classes qualify) Chapter 3 equipment, 3 characters? I'm down for chapter 3 gear. Vote! I wanna start coming up with a team, it's the most fun part! |
#592

Chapter 3 gear sounds solid to me. Honestly, the only reason I haven't said anything is because I'm fine with just about whatever. I love pitching in on these regardless of the format.

I'm totally interested in the Utility format, but since we just got all crazy with unlimited doubles, I wanna try something more vanilla. I already defeated Cersei with unlimited power, so we'll see how well I do in a format where her design was actually without equal.

By the way, I've updated the OP with the round 2 matches. If you want to go back and watch anything, or if you're just curious how many times I screwed up and had to run a rematch (five), it's all there for you.

I'm up for Ch. 3 equips with 4 characters or 3 characters. Though the theme naming I was gonna use requires 4...

I won't have time to dedicate to this until after PAX, but I'm pretty set on Chapter 3 equipment, 4 characters, same general ruleset as the first time.
Anyone know of an a FAQ that says what's buy-able when? Once I get the equipment last codified and think about a fer things (Draw Out, Throw) I can post full rules and stat accepting teams. |
