Nice. But from a thematic standpoint I feel like some of your guys should have higher Faith.

I'll see if I can get a team put together as soon as possible.

Yeah, and even though Ray is probably the most committed believer in the paranormal, he's not really the best option for faith of the Tactics variety. But I couldn't find ability sets that really matched them as closely as I wanted, so I ended up just going for general gameplay balance.

Quick question: How are equal-CT conflicts resolved? Like, say, both teams having a 7-Speed character, or an ability hitting 100 at the same time a character does.

'Enemy' team wins.

EDIT: Actually, it's based on their position in the lineup you can bring up through one of the menus. Just for all in-game battles that's ordered enemy team then your team.

Summoner could be good just to make your mage go second once their team is in range :P

I was looking at a different tactic. I suppose we'll see how it turns out.

Heh, Ch. 1 equipment makes it hard to come up with gimmicks. This is a pretty plain, half-assed team.

Team Third Time's the Charm:

Code:
Alpha Leo (Male Knight)
70 Br, 40 Fa
Save fading life

Battle Skill (Magic Break, Speed Break)
Item
Damage Split
Defense UP
Move +3

Mythril Sword
Bronze Shield
Iron Helm
Chain Mail
Defense Ring

Code:
Pollux (Male Monk)
70 Br, 40 Fa
Save fading life

Punch Art (Chakra, Stigma Magic, Revive)
Talk Skill (Death Sentence, Insult)
Dragon Spirit
Equip Armor
Move HP Up

-
-
Iron Helm
Chain Mail
Battle Boots
Code:
Castor (Male Archer)
70 Br, 40 Fa
Save fading life

Charge (+1 through +5)
Basic Skill (Accumulate, Heal)
Auto Potion
Attack UP
Move +2

Silver Bow
-
Red Hood
Chain Vest
Power Wrist
Code:
Cygnus (Chocobo)
70 Br, 40 Fa
Save fading life

How likely is it that Pollux is just going to get the team killed?

Funny, I was just wondering tonight when Regulus was going to get around to posting his team.

The answer is apparently "four days ago."

Gerad? Destil? Either of you feel like running this circus?

I haven't done a test run yet. My computer may not be good enough. I'll try to give it a go this weekend.

Give me the weekend, I got everything downloaded and started doing tests, but still in the early stages (need to beat the first battle or grab a save and actually play with the debug menu).

Any idea why ePSXe's fast forward wouldn't work? That's been one of the biggest sticking points, my machine is a monster so don't think I'm processor bound (can run at 4x the resolution I'm testing just fine) but all I've ever gotten the frame skipping options to do is make things choppy.

Honestly? I haven't been able to figure it out either. On my oldest machine, where I've done all of my non-finals recording, the fast forward works like a charm (framerate issues aside). On my better machines, I can't get it to go any faster than default. It might be a ePSXe version issue. I was thinking about transferring the emulator files and seeing if that was it. I'd rather not do any more recording on that computer if I can help it.

What I was using, in case it helps, is the frameskip options in the menu that pops up when you press Delete. I tried copying the settings exactly in a more recent version on a newer PC, and it didn't do a thing.

Hum. Windows version issue? 32 vs. 64 bit?

The old one's XP and definitely 32-bit. The new one's Win 8 and probably 64-bit.

If no one else is stepping up, then I'll do the recordings again. However, it would be real nice if someone else could do the team entry in FFTastic. This is the #1 source of errors for me, and it's just generally a pain.

You don't need recording equipment, an emulator, or even the game to do this. Having a save file really helps, though, and I imagine being able to check that you did everything right would also be helpful.

If you're up to the task, let me know, and I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have along the way.

Data entry? That's what I do for fun. Sure, I'll bite. What do I need to do?

1. Download FFTastic
2. Fiddle around with it to figure out what the buttons do
3. Acquire a GME file with a FFT save on it
4. Load it in FFTastic and enter the teams

Hint for #1: Google is your friend.
Hint for #2: The application is poorly documented, but it's still fairly straightforward.
Hint for #3: I can send you a file once I get home, although Destil or Gerad could probably beat me to it.
Hint for #4: There are a few common pitfalls when entering units:
  • Make sure all units are marked as "Active."
  • Only use units in slots 1-16. The other slots are reserved for guests. This means that you'll need to use multiple save slots.
  • Make sure the gender and sprite are both correct for the character.
  • Don't trust FFTastic to give units the correct stats. Set the unit's job and level, hit the recalculate button, then manually enter the correct stats for the unit (as shown here after setting the level to 10).
  • Make sure to explicitly unset abilities that units don't have, even if you don't think they'll be able to use it anyway (e.g. Draw Out if there are no katanas in inventory). The team that the game treats as the enemy uses different logic that ignores the player's inventory.

Yeah, stuck on step 3 there. I mean, I have the ROM and an emulator, just don't know how to get it to make GME files (and the emulator bugs out when I try to save anyway).
