Yeah, I'll echo this. Thanks, Mogri. I'm sure this was tons of work with all the long battles and rematches due to various problems, but I enjoyed it all the way through, even after my team embittered me.

Much appreciated, and I'm glad you got someone else to take the reins for you. I'm looking forward to Destil's turn at the helm.

So what happened to this? We still doing another round? I know Destil's been busy, but I thought I saw him say somewhere that this would be starting up a week or two ago, but no word since.

What's the status? Even if Destil is still busy, we could still figure out what format we're gonn run, and begin signups. The more time to think about your team, the better.

He likely forgot, or his schedule extended longer than he anticipated.

And you saw that in the PFS Discussion thread, I think.

If he forgot, all the better to remind him

If his schedule just stayed busy longer than expected, we can still do the things like signups, and voting on format, without him. Then when he's ready to start, we'll be ready too.

Last week was pretty bad for me on call. Should be able to work out some test recordings this week or over the weekend.

Just in time for round three(?):

The ridiculously comprehensive FFT reference guide

Despite being ridiculously comprehensive, it is missing a few things in the Abilities reference.
  • RSM abilities are largely unsourced, so filtering by source will turn up few to no non-Action abilities. (Affects the Units reference, too.)
  • Action abilities for special units' secondary skillsets are also unsourced. (For example, Velius has a secondary Summon skillset that includes Lich, Titan, and Cyclops.)
  • Many abilities are missing their Jp cost.
  • A few abilities have incorrect formulas. This should just be monster abilities, and I'm working on filling in the gaps.

I mention these not because they're particularly relevant to tournament teambuilding, but because I am hoping to avoid redundant bug reports.

Speaking of bug reports: Yes, this reference guide is attached to a functional multiplayer FFT simulator. Mega Tact is in open alpha, so if you are interested in playing FFT with other people and not afraid of filing the occasional bug report, give it a spin.

Yeah, but Mega Tact is in beta now at least, so you can totally get your FFT fix. If you looked at it when I posted that link in October, then you might notice a few changes.

(Now with optional AI-controlled teams, all unit types available, tons of new maps, and other crrrrazy features)

So is this still gonna be autobattle or just battle?

(I did not actually look at the link to see if it has co-op, but I assume it does if AI-controlled teams are optional.)

The tournament (Destil willing) would be autobattle. I'm not running a Mega Tact tournament, though I suppose I could if there were sufficient interest. My Mega Tact advertising is completely tangential to the purpose of this thread.

There's no support for co-op in Mega Tact, but you can put four teams onto a single map and pretend you're doing co-op. You can put all, none, or any of the teams under AI control. You can fight yourself, or you can fight an AI-controlled version of yourself. You can fight three AI-controlled versions of yourself, but like I said, there's no co-op support, so they'll be just as happy to beat up on each other as to target you.

You could theoretically run an AI autobattle tournament in Mega Tact, except that it doesn't support multiple AI profiles (Save fading live/Run like a rabbit) and it would be impossible to video, since the game is asynchronous (as opposed to real-time).

Hey, it's been a while, huh? I wonder if there's interest in another one.

Tournament 3: Little League

What's New
Chapter 1 was a magical time in Final Fantasy Tactics. You were discovering new things, the truly broken abilities were still a lifetime away, and the story had nothing to do with magic rocks.

Everyone is level 10 this time, and equipment selection is limited to what you could find in chapter 1 (with exceptions as noted below).

How it works
Each contestant will put together a team of four characters following the rules below. I'll import your characters into the game and use debug mode to make them fight each other to the death. I'll post the videos on YouTube. (Actually, I'm really hoping someone else will step up to the plate this time, but if not, I'll do it.)

Making a team
All you need to do is come up with a party of four characters. Restrictions follow:
  • No special characters. You're using a team of generic humans or monsters.
  • Brave and Faith between 40 and 70. This is the normal range for generics.
  • All characters are level 10. They will have the maximum possible stats for their level.
  • No duplicates. Only one copy of each ability per team. Innate abilities do not contribute to this restriction, so you could have, for example, a Ninja with Martial Arts alongside a Monk with Two Swords.
  • No Zodiac signs. Allowing Zodiac compat gives later entrants an advantage.
  • No MP Switch + Move-MP Up. You can use either ability, but not both on the same unit.
  • Math Skill is banned. It would be pretty stupid in this format.
  • Phoenix Down and Zodiac are banned. The Item skillset is still really good without the game's most broken ability. Revive and Raise are still legal.
  • Hamedo and Blade Grasp are banned. Abandon is not banned, but it's significantly worse than usual.
  • Frog, Nameless Dance, and Water Ball are banned. It's very difficult to recover from Frog.
  • Sing is restricted. Angel Song and Last Song are the only available Sing skills. (Life Song restores 20 HP to all allies three times per round.)
  • Dance is restricted. Last Dance is the only available Dance skill. (Wiznaibus deals 10 damage to all enemies three times per round.)
  • Throw is restricted. Sword is the only available Throw skill (throwing 7 WP Mythril Swords instead of 9 WP Battle Axes).
  • Chapter 1 weapons, armor, and medicine only. Anything you could buy in chapter 1 is fair game.
  • Chapter 1 monsters only. In case you want to use a monster, you'll have to choose from Chocobo, Bomb, Goblin, Black Goblin, Red Panther, Morbol, and Dragon. (Only monsters that appear as enemies are legal. If I've forgotten a monster that you want to use, let me know.)
  • Legal accessories are Battle Boots, Defense Armlet, Defense Ring, Diamond Armlet, Feather Boots, N-Kai Armlet, Power Wrist, Rubber Shoes, Small Mantle, and Spike Shoes. Chapter 1 only gives you Battle Boots and Small Mantle, so I've included most of chapter 2's accessories for variety.

In addition to each character's abilities and equipment, you'll need to specify his/her AI. See the general instructions post (second in this thread) for details.

Helpful Tips
  • There are no ninja swords, katanas, flails, guns, harps, dictionaries, spears, sticks, bags, or fabrics available in chapter 1. Remember, though, that some classes have other options (Ninjas can equip daggers, for instance), and anyone can use Martial Arts.
  • Draw Out is worthless, since katanas are unavailable. Throw is still fine, but is a bit weaker than usual.
  • Almost all units have 6 Speed in this format. Mime, Monk, Ninja, and Thief have 7 Speed, while Summoner has 5 Speed.
  • Because of the low Speed values, slow-cast magic is much more viable, but remember that MP is a limiting factor (60 is about the upper bound for MP). Half of MP, Move-MP Up, and Angel Song are useful ways to extend your spellcasting.
  • The Sing and Dance skills are also unaffected by unit speed, which is why they're so heavily restricted. Last Song and Last Dance execute in the time it takes a Summoner to get 100 CT.
  • Status effect resistance is very limited this time around. Time Magic will be very good.
  • Archers are at their peak in chapter 1, and Charge is actually a viable skillset. You can easily resolve a Charge +5 if you're not killed in the process, which is essentially like attacking with an Ultimus Bow instead of a Silver Bow.
  • Because of the limited equipment selection, heavy armor compares very favorably to other options, giving you an extra 22 HP compared to clothes with no downsides (unless you needed the MP).
  • Despite the limited weapon selection, there's a lot to consider. The rods boost a single element, normally-useless daggers can inflict Blind or Silence, and the Night Killer can inflict Sleep. For pure power, you can't beat the Mythril Sword.
  • The 30 HP restored by Auto-Potion is significant at this level.

Format
  • Your party will have an unlimited stock (i.e. 99) of every item in the format.
  • The battleground for all matches will change each round.
  • Double elimination.

Reference
Mega Tact's Reference section allows you to view just the chapter 1 equipment, plus you can take a look at every unit's stats at level 10.

To enter, reply with your team of four.

I'd still like to, but last time I stalled out getting all my test recording stuff working. If I have some time before this starts up I'll see if I can't give it another go.

Can I have a knight with Charge and an Archer if I don't give the archer any actual charge skills?

Here's my team.

Rules update: After some consideration, I've decided to remove Reflect Ring from the approved accessories list. I had originally put it on my Knight, which would make him way too strong. I also removed the "no duplicate items" clause, which was in there by mistake. Red Hoods for everybody.

You can take my team as a template. It doesn't really matter how it's arranged, but I have mine like this:

Code:
Unit name
## Br ## Fa
Gender Job
AI type

Primary skillset
Secondary skillset
Reaction ability
Support ability
Movement ability

Hand
Offhand
Head
Body
Accessory
Repeat x4.

It appears I've neglected to include a support ability for one of my characters, which reminds me: you can freely edit your team before the deadline. (At the moment, there is no deadline.)

Question: it is possible to get red dragons as allies in ch1. Were these intentionally left out, or...?

Only monsters that appear as enemies during chapter 1 can be used. If Red Dragon fits that description and you can explain where to find one, then yes, they're legal. They'd be pretty scary, but they're Ice-weak, and Rubber Boots neutralizes their brea-- I mean, bracelet attack.

As it turns out, Red Dragons do not specifically appear as enemies. However, Dragons do.

I think I'd be less inclined to use a Dragon than a Chocobo, personally, but I'll add them to the list.

(edit) Morbols are also available in chapter 1. Less offensive presence, but bulk to rival your best generics plus Lick for Reflect. They'd be my pick for monster if I had to use one (but I think I'd still rather have a Mime, all told).

Edge needs an accessory, too.

Also you can remove the Power Wrist from the accessory list since Diamond Bracelet is a pure upgrade.

Yeah, I knew that when I put it there. Maybe someone really doesn't want to be immune to Slow, though -- who am I to stop them?

Edge gets the Small Mantle for more Abandon times.

Question. Does 2-Handed improve Jump damage? If not, does Attack Up?

I feel like this may have been asked before, but I don't think I have ever seen an answer. I certainly can't find the answer anywhere.

Neither do. No spears will hurt as well.

FFT Battle Mechanics Guide is my go-to for stuff like this.

i've tried looking in that guide for the answer to this, and I couldn't find it. Maybe I just don't know how to read that shit, but I know i've looked at the dmg formula for Jump and couldn't find a definitive answer to whether or not Attackup or 2-handed applied to it.
