Having enjoyed some of the succession LPs for Dwarf Fortress, and knowing that there are also a few abandoned LPs from this forum's bygone era that could use a playing, I was wondering if there would be any interest in starting a succession based XCom: UFO Defense LP? Something like, a new "director" rotates in every 3 months to take command.

Names for soldiers would be pulled off the list of active TT posters, and the person messaged to indicate that they were likely going to get killed in a videogame.

If you are looking for light and easy I wouldn't recommend XCOM... Unless of course you plan on playing it with a trainer of some sort.

I think he means it'd be lighter and easier because he would only be doing part of it, but even so, no.

I have no idea what the strategy of this game is.

I'm in.

We tend to have a bit of a taboo on LPing new games around here. While it's not forbidden, it is generally frowned upon. That game literally just came out today, and even a game that's been out for half a year tends to turn heads around here. So yeah, you're probably not gonna get a lot of cries of "go for it" from the higher-ups...

You are kind of the highest-up when it comes to LPs right now.

That said: XCOM is kind of a big deal, and I'm the perfect example of someone who hasn't bought it yet but doesn't want to be spoiled on it. Now would be a great time to LP one of the earlier entries in the franchise, though.

You know how easy it is to just NOT click on something guys? Mindbogglingly easy, all you do is don't click. Let the guy do the LP if he wants, maybe some people out there don't want to play that game but want to see it or can't afford it and want to see how it plays to influence their opinion or any number of fucking reasons.

No I'm pretty sure that's the guy who moderates the subforum, not a dude who just does a lot of them.

Indeed, Falselogic holds the final say and majority sway on the vote of what goes and does not. I occasionally act in an advisory capacity to my fellow LPers, and indeed have done a great deal of LPs, but that does not mean I hold any real authority. It just means that I've been around long enough and have paid attention to the rules enough to usually be able to give sound advice on what is okay and what is not.

Hey you know what if people don't want it here so be it I can always do it someplace else. You know just figured I'd share my passion for the game some place where I've enjoyed seeing other people display their own passions.

We had this very same discussion last month re: the FF Dimensions or whatever its called mobile game.

When I asked people to move the discussion into one of the pinned threads so that a rule or guideline could be developed nothing ever really came of it, the forum seemed evenly divided.

My position remains the same now as it was then. If you don't want a game spoiled don't enter the thread. We have the same policy over in the video games thread where we talk about new games and things can/will be spoiled.

If CC wants to do it, he can do it. Of course if he doesn't finish it I'll hold him in the same contempt I hold everyone who doesn't finish their LP.

Judging from the size of the abandoned list, you must be a very contemptuous individual.

They knew the risks when they started their LPs...

EDIT: Also CC, or anyone, it would be awesome if you somone finished the original X-com LP started by Sven. I mean it'd be awesome if Sven came back and finished it but I'm not holding my breath.

I'd love to Sven's X-Com LP picked back up! We'll see; I don't want to count and chickens before they hatch, given how excruciatingly long that my FFT LP took.

I think the biggest barrier (personally) is writing about the mid to late game. X-Com reaches a point where you've got power armour, two alien weapons for everyone, etc. but alien missions take a large portion of time. The trick would be figuring out how to incorporate them (as deaths still happen) without going crazy showcasing them.

Writing up "after action reports" with maybe a few pics of the crazy things that happened in the conflict might be the best way to go.

Yeah, X-COM is like FFT in terms of game flow, but it has even more battles that don't require more than a mention. You don't need to detail every turn of every terror mission; just give the highlights.

Are there any plans to fix the links in the OP? I'd be happy to dig up all the correct links I can find if it'll help.

Gosh, you're right. Oops. I guess I was remembering when I tried it a little while ago.

At least I've got lots of interesting reading now!

Ack! Guess I should have checked before I went ahead and changed all of them anyway! I was going to say I was still waiting for the auto forwarding to kick in before I changed them.

That's what I get for not checking before I act...

(cause 'find and replace' is such a strenuous, exhausting process!

I'd like to reserve King of Dragon Pass, with a view to running it in November.

(Plan is, I'll put together a bare-bones XP VM inside VirtualBox and use VBox snapshots. At least one post a day, several for things like heroquests and the pregame options.)

My Peace Walker Let's Play is at the point where I just have a bunch of leftover B-roll to scrub through, so I'd like to reserve a November slot for Haze. Sorry!

So, while what I really want to do is Terranigma, I'm not sure I can manage a full-length LP. So, I was thinking I could pick up the twice-abandoned Soul Blazer LP, try to complete the remaining three areas of that, and then see if a full LP would be feasible for me. Would that be okay?

You don't need any permissions to pick up an abandoned LP, though the common practice is to send the person who was doing it a PM informing them of the fact.

So yeah. The Seiken Densetsu 3 LP is no longer abandoned. I have confirmed with SnoopyGangnam that it is okay and stuff. Rejoice!

November has open group play spots, right? I am going to claim Hero Quest.
