That's not very much for a turn-based game. Most SNES-era or later Dragon Quest games, you'll have 4,000 kills before you've hit the three-quarters mark. Good luck getting through DQ7 with fewer than 5,000 kills.

Eh, it probably wouldn't be that tough. I don't think that Expel/Suplex/Knockdown count as kills, so you can abuse those to keep the kill count down (but still earn points toward your class levels), and then make up the difference by killing Metals.

OTOH, I don't think that would be very interesting to watch or play, so.

Well, KnockDown and Expel anyway. Suplex has a glitch in it where if even 1 enemy is killed, every single enemy in the fight who got Suplex'd out also acts like you killed them and the kill count goes up anyway. And KnockDown is the foundation of my 1,471-battle hybrid skill grindfest plan (which is tediously slow and ultimately probably not worth it), so yeah.

But a proper minimalist DQ7 run? One in the same vein as that DQ8 level 9 challenge (yes, someone actually got to the end of DQ8 at level 9)? That would be cool.

I was furious when I found out that particular joke was actually present in the NetHack sources, but commented out such that it never came up (someone was possibly missing a sense of humour...), after a similar list of dead monsters. Glad to see it catching on elsewhere!

The "Original Staff" credits are the same as the opening credits from the NES version, which didn't specifically credit Sakaguchi in the first place. He and the rest of the staff are presumably grouped into "Square A-Team."

The part in A Christmas Story when Ralphie checks his mailbox in vain for his decoder pin always reminds me of this issue. I checked the mailbox at least twice a day that summer, and the mailbox was a half-mile away (yeah, I'm small town). The waiting was agony.
