That's a total of 3957 kills during their quest. Wow... Just wow...

That's not very much for a turn-based game. Most SNES-era or later Dragon Quest games, you'll have 4,000 kills before you've hit the three-quarters mark. Good luck getting through DQ7 with fewer than 5,000 kills.

Is that a challenge?

By all means! I'd love to see a minimalist run of DQ7. It'd make a far more interesting LP than the one at the LP Archives. Good luck with HellCloud!

Wonderfully done Brick!

OTOH, I don't think that would be very interesting to watch or play, so. |

But a proper minimalist DQ7 run? One in the same vein as that DQ8 level 9 challenge (yes, someone actually got to the end of DQ8 at level 9)? That would be cool. |

I was furious when I found out that particular joke was actually present in the NetHack sources, but commented out such that it never came up (someone was possibly missing a sense of humour...), after a similar list of dead monsters. Glad to see it catching on elsewhere!

The obvious question now, of course, is what Brickroad's conducts were.

I never engraved Elbereth. Not even once.

Brickroad, this was incredible. I have revealed myself after, well, about a decade of lurking to bestow props. Well done, sir.

I'm not sure I'm ever going to catch up on all the LPing I got behind on over the holidays, but I had to make time for this one. Obviously. Congrats!

Aw, I remember that issue... <3

Why does the ending credit everybody on the original team but Sakaguchi? None of them still work at SE, do they? Is SE still bitter over the money Spirits Within lost?

The "Original Staff" credits are the same as the opening credits from the NES version, which didn't specifically credit Sakaguchi in the first place. He and the rest of the staff are presumably grouped into "Square A-Team."

The map from that issue is hanging on my wall. It was only in the last couple years that I noticed that the chapters are labeled incorrectly on it.

The part in A Christmas Story when Ralphie checks his mailbox in vain for his decoder pin always reminds me of this issue. I checked the mailbox at least twice a day that summer, and the mailbox was a half-mile away (yeah, I'm small town). The waiting was agony.
