Maybe Amano Art CG Man's a Lufenian that got turned into one of Garland's bats so some other guys that don't look like him could save the world?

Speaking of that guy, he's not what I think of when I think 'Final Fantasy I', but the closest analogue to him I can think of in-game is the Final Fantasy I remake knight's armor. Except he's wearing a weird circlet instead of a horny helmet. Guess that's to be expected with 20x24 sprites, though I'm surprised they didn't make him look like that guy in that 2D PSP remake* with higher-res sprites.

I expect we'll see horned helmet man in an actual game context if FFI ever gets remade in 3D, though.

*Why was that PSP remake in 2D, anyway? And half-assed 2D at that? And separate from that other awful game people in 'Not Japan' had come to expect it to be paired up with?

The airship. It's a futuristic zeppelin for some reason. I looked at my actual FF1 box to check.

FF2 is awesome, man. As long as you're playing one of the remakes (where the leveling system doesn't suck balls), at least. I like how different it is from the rest of the series. I imagine it's a lot like how going from the NES titles to the ATB games was like: you had to learn again.

Even the versions of FF2 that are balanced and correctly functioning still have monster closets.

I took one look at FF2's levelling system and handed it off to my OCDesque dad (2yrs to fnish FF9 cause he wanted every damned Tetra Master card, FEH).

He pwned that game.

Hell, those aren't even that bad (unless it's the first time you see them and you try to check the back walls... feh). Think of them as monster nests. 2 is actually one of my top 3 FFs! (6, 3, 2 (I've never played 7), in case you were wondering)

Well, that explains a lot. Come back once you've finished 5, 10, 12, and 9.

Link me to your post on 6 please?

Are you sure about that? It's not much to go on, but it looks closer to the style of Katsuya Terada, who did the Ninendo Power artwork for the game.

The castle-and-orb are in the FF1 section of Amano's artbook "Dawn".

Holy shit, did I just one-up Kishi in the "obscure game knowledge" department? I have such a boner right now.

I own Dawn, too, and that's news to me. My copy's about three thousand miles away right now, though, so I'll take your word for it.

The hell, didn't you feel the hurricane-force swooosh of air as I swooned over your obscure gaming prowess?

Or did you really think you get hurricanes where you live?

At least Nich and Kishi have the decency to only leave me weak in the knees!

I'd be an evil emperor if my right hand were so tiny. Also, I'll embrace the series again when I see some Amano rough sketches used as promotional art for a new game. And I want a high-budget FF1 remake that strives its fullest to use today's technology to create a game that looks like Yoshitaka Amano art.

That would be amazing and I would buy it day one. Fortunately for my wallet, there is zero possibility of that happening. :-(

The Japanese novelization of FF2. AFAIK, nobody's given it a translation yet.

The problem is, it would split FF fans even more. I was a member of the Zelda fan community when Wind Waker came out, trust me on this.

Except that Wind Waker is amazing, and Zelda fans are retarded (speaking as one of them).

And it's been proven that the people making FF kind of do whatever the fuck they want, completely re-inventing things every time.

You mean Square-Enix? (rimshot)

But seriously, every new game creates a rift in the fanbase. An FF6 remake like that would lead to no two fans agreeing on anything ever.
