Would the FF4 LP include the awful sequel as well? I couldn't even make it through the first section of that piecemeal piece of shit.

Oh god. Do it, Brick. Do it for the Children!

Hey, After Years wasn't that bad.

That reminds me- I still have to find a way to play After Years without a dolphin or Wii...

I just went back to read part of the solo thief run and remembered that it started as an April Fool's joke. Damn.
You know, if I could play it on a portable, it would be a lot more tolerable. The game is WAY too grindy for playing on a TV. |

I'm the type who will grind through any final fantasy game and just obliterate it if my mood is right, and not many RPGs can hold me back when I'm like that. I don't care often for storyline, and I get as much as possible. How bad could it be?

Assuming you buy all of the chapters...
Ceodore and Kain's chapter (the one the game comes with) isn't very hard, though the Kraken can be a bit difficult. Their Challenge Dungeon is pretty ridiculous though. Rydia's chapter can get as frustrating as hell until you get Bio. Her Challenge Dungeon is absurdly annoying until Luca gets more useful. Palom's chapter is fairly annoying until you get Bio. His Challenge Dungeon is pretty meh, except for the boss. Porom's chapter can honestly go to hell until you get Kain. Her Challenge Dungeon is freakishly retarded. Edge's chapter is pretty hard the whole way through, mainly because you're stuck controlling the four new guys for a bit. And they suck. Edge is awesome though. His Challenge Dungeon is pretty fun, but ridiculous at the same time. Edward's is pretty easy. Honestly, you'll probably complete it around level 20. His Challenge Dungeon is actually pretty fun. Yang's chapter is pretty easy. The Challenge Dungeon is just annoying. Golbez's chapter is frustrating. End of story. Never tried the Challenge Dungeon. The final chapter though... well, it's not very hard to grind (enemies drop a LOT of XP and money), but the enemies get ridiculous. |

You have to buy the chapters eh... Well that explains it >.<
Still I wanna try it someday |

I bought The After Years on the Wii and then stopped when I realized you had to shell out another $25 or so to get all of the content. I'll probably get the whole thing someday.
As for the next LP. I've actually never seen FFIV on the SNES, so that gets my vote. |

Brickroad, use emulation tricks to get all the impossibly ridiculous rare drops like the secret summons and that one accessory. And then show them off for us.

Wow, and here I was thinking that DQIV was the one that had the ridiculous sixth chapter shoehorned onto the end of its rerelease. Perhaps they're just doing that to ALL games now.

Eh?
All of the chapters may have had their annoying parts, but that doesn't mean they were bad. Except for Porom's chapter. **** that. Besides, the option to have Edge duel Rubicante in The Crystals makes up for any bad parts. Really, you have to remember the game was originally made for cell phones before you judge it. |

No, no I'm pretty sure a shitty game doesn't become good because it has reasons for being shitty.

Hey, I played through the entirety of The After Years and found it to be a pretty fun little throwback. I also love ridiculously massive dungeons and this game was more than happy enough to oblige. That endgame dungeon is like 15 hours and has something like 50 bosses from the first six games. It's a good challenge and pretty damned fun. Is it perfect? Hells no. Was it worth my money? Yeah, it was fun enough for me to finish.

Oh, and here are four reasons you can not use: 1) Graphics. As I said, it was made for cellphones. Also, it built off the GBA version's engine. It isn't going to look spectacular. 2) Plot being near the same as FF IV. For one, this actually becomes a plot point in Edge's story. For two, while there certainly are a lot of similarities, it's in no way a carbon copy. 3) Porom's chapter. Yes, it sucks, I know. (Hey, let's make the players navigate up through Mt. Ordeals with a party composed of mages! And let's make two of them suck! And let's make the only character who won't fall over in four hits appear late in the story! Oh, and let's also fill the Challenge Dungeon with monsters resistant to magic!) 4) Price. It's $37 total. That's still less than your normal FF game. EDIT: Make no mistake, I'm not saying After Years is a great game. I'm saying it's not as bad as you guys are making it out to be. |

I think they did actually remake FF4 for the cell phone.

Oh yes, they did. For the FOMA 703i and 903i, to be exact. They also remade or ported it on PlayStation, WonderSwan Color, GameBoy Advance, DS, and Virtual Console. It's the third-most-ported FF game, right behind the first and second Final Fantasy. I can only assume someone on the Squenix staff really likes FF1, 2, and 4, because their remakes and ports rarely do very well.

Also, I can back up that "damn near everything" for FF6; I helped ChrisRPG figure out how to rearrange things in memory for our FF6 retranslation project, after all. He used to tell me daily of the nightmare that was FF6's code, especially the battle engine code. It's a miracle they ever got it ported to GBA... |

+1 for the slightly sadistic notion of "continue the LP through The After Years". I'd really like to see it, but I don't really want to play it (nor do I have any sensible means of doing so even if I did).

The only way I would consider doing The After Years is if it were some fucked up charity thing, a la Desert Bus.

Hmm. Maybe I could do a thing like that for another bad game, like Lord of the Rings for the SNES.

I'm going to play that damned thing on emulation some day. I think the fact that I'm not a big fan of LOTR to begin with will help with my tolerance.

Samwise Gamgee will not leave the shire until you go in to the Cave of Monsters to retrieve Ol' Gaffer's glasses.
HAVE FUN WITH THAT. To clarify: This is one of those games I grabbed when I was a kid for a 5 dollar rental at a Blockbuster video, because it looked neat and RPGish, when I was just starting to get in to RPGs. I am not invoking hyperbole when I say that I felt terrible when I asked mom to take it back after two hours. |

Desert Bus lied to me. There's like... three turns between here and Las Vegas. The first two are just around open desert, no real loss if you miss them. But do you have any idea how hard it is to free yourself from a submerged car after sailing over the edge of the Hoover Damn and sinking 20 feet under the surface of Lake Mead?
