Kinda reminds me of Ramza from FFT, and how he pretty much abandons everyone at the end of Chapter 1.

Er, well yeah, that's kinda the point. I got stuck there, which is why I mentioned that I probably could've saved myself time by looking on a FAQs (although since that is pretty much the first thing I do when I'm stuck, perhaps my internet wasn't working at the time).

I am currently at Zozo, but I may just restart because I did grab all of the treasure chests at the beginning and I don't want to have cheated myself out of something better. Are there any one time only items you can get before going to Zozo (I'll try looking it up in an FAQs this time)?

There really aren't any unique missable items that early on. Not even the stuff you can leave to get better rewards near the end of the game is unique (though some of it is rare, none of it is one-source-only). You don't really start hitting one-chance-only items until a fair bit after Zozo, in fact.

Are we going to get to see the Return to Figaro scene with just one of the Brothers? I mean, I know people can do it, but I never saw the point... until now!

If you mean trying to trigger the scene showcased in this update at Figaro Castle with only one of the brothers, it cannot be done. Both Edgar and Matias have to be present. If you only bring Matias, he just rejoins you after you leave the castle and insists on exploring every time you return until you do watch the scene. If you only bring Edgar, you don't even get that much.

Thank you for spotting that. The two tracks are fairly similar, and also I composed that entire update over the course of 3.5 hours, so it's not surprising that a slip like that came up.

I've never been able to figure out if that line is supposed to mean "people in this town can only tell lies, so naturally since I've just been brutally mugged and left for dead I'm going to tell every passing tourist that this place is wonderful!"

or if he's just piss drunk.

This may or may not be apparent but since you can use Fight while an Imp it is possible to do a character's desperation attack while they're an Imp. This happened to me once with Mog's Moogle Rush (which is like the Pummel Blitz).

I hadn't thought about it, but I'm not surprised. It would still be a devastating attack too, with its own spell power and bonuses. Still, a 1/16 chance of activating when you're at critical health isn't something you can rely on in the best circumstances....

Correction: No new FF6 representation confirmed. Remember, Terra was the last announced character in the original Dissidia. And besides, Phantom Train. The creator basically confirmed Locke in an interview a while back, though.

But, the game's out in Japan. The last confirmed character was *spoiler removed on second thought, but it's an original character and not from FF6 at any rate*, there's no sign of any new FFVI representation.

We're no longer in the 'pre-release info dump' phase, the game is in the hands of gamers, and a new FFVI addition seems to be entirely absent.

Yeah, a 1/16 chance while at critical health while choosing to Fight as an Imp. So it's like a 1 in 1.1 million chance. It only ever happened to me once through all of my playthroughs of the game but I can't remember exactly what the outcome was. And I think it happened in the Zone Eater dungeon.

Also, Lucas - I don't know how you can stand to use that ring battle menu. Seeing it the screenshots is messing with my head...

The Short menu does take getting some used to, no doubt about that. Though the few times I used it long enough to do so, I found that it was marginally faster selecting commands that way. But not nearly fast enough to justify keeping it enabled.

I don't know how anyone can stand to not use it. Having your commands stacked one on top of each other is so slow! This game isn't turn-based, you know - those thirteen seconds you'll save over the course of the game are important!

You know it occurs to me that the Chancellor of Figaro is one of the few JRPG Chancellors I can think of that isn't in some way evil.

The guy even has a unique(ish) sprite and he just doesn't do anything. I'd think he was a red herring.. but... from what?

Actually, Squaresoft was pretty fond of defying and playing with the "evil chancellor" trope back then. FF5 had at least one non-evil chancellor as well, and Chrono Trigger both played it (very obviously) straight both early on and late-game and subverted it too.

Unlike Death and most other instant death attacks, this will work on undead enemies; it still doesn’t work on enemies immune to instant death though, which means the Drill is arguably better for reliable damage against bosses despite its lower power.
Hey, I just realized something - you can use this tool to chainsaw god (or at least a god / goddess) in the face! I'm glad Final Fantasy 3 carried on a grand Square tradition. OK, it's not a tradition but it should be - think of how much better every Square game would be if it allowed you to chainsaw god in the face.

I have to admit, the image of Fei wielding a chainsaw is in itself pretty hilarious, let alone using it against Deus. It'd be even funnier if he did it out-of-Gear.

LIFE THINGS are occurring which preclude me posting an update at midnight tomorrow, so next update will probably be around 4:30 PM PST instead. If said LIFE THINGS continue, following updates will likely be posted on Saturday mornings.

There's a few NPCs like this; they don't really have unique sprites, but the NPC "class" to which that sprite belongs is so small it's easy to think they're unique. I mean, there's what, two chancellors in the game? Three? They all look alike, but it's hard to remember that when you go hours of gameplay between seeing them.

I was going to say that FFIV had a non-evil chancellor in Eblan, but then I remembered that guy is actually a chamberlain, not a chancellor.
