I am currently at Zozo, but I may just restart because I did grab all of the treasure chests at the beginning and I don't want to have cheated myself out of something better. Are there any one time only items you can get before going to Zozo (I'll try looking it up in an FAQs this time)? |
#364
|

|

There really aren't any unique missable items that early on. Not even the stuff you can leave to get better rewards near the end of the game is unique (though some of it is rare, none of it is one-source-only). You don't really start hitting one-chance-only items until a fair bit after Zozo, in fact.

Are we going to get to see the Return to Figaro scene with just one of the Brothers? I mean, I know people can do it, but I never saw the point... until now!
|
#366

|

If you mean trying to trigger the scene showcased in this update at Figaro Castle with only one of the brothers, it cannot be done. Both Edgar and Matias have to be present. If you only bring Matias, he just rejoins you after you leave the castle and insists on exploring every time you return until you do watch the scene. If you only bring Edgar, you don't even get that much.

Forever Rachel (while we're on the subject) might just be my favorite piece of music in this soundtrack. Not because I think it's the best, but because it was such a kick in the heart when I realized, my second or so time through the game, that it is a slowed down and melancholied up version of ♪♪ Locke's Theme ♪♪ (which, my first time through, I didn't even connect to Locke, thinking it was just the game's "It's heroing time!" music). I was amazed that the same melody could be used to such a different effect. Coin Song, of course, has a similar relationship to ♪♪ Edgar and Sabin's Theme ♪♪ |

"Ramah"? Explain yourself, mister.
On the contrary, that's what makes that line so hilarious. |

I've never been able to figure out if that line is supposed to mean "people in this town can only tell lies, so naturally since I've just been brutally mugged and left for dead I'm going to tell every passing tourist that this place is wonderful!"
or if he's just piss drunk. |

I hadn't thought about it, but I'm not surprised. It would still be a devastating attack too, with its own spell power and bonuses. Still, a 1/16 chance of activating when you're at critical health isn't something you can rely on in the best circumstances....

BART DO YOU WANNA SEE MY NEW CHAINSAW AND HOCKEY MASK?!!?
And THIS is why Edgar should've been in Dissidia Duodeccywhatever instead of, apparently, NO NEW FF6 REPRESENTATION. Booo. |
#377

|

Correction: No new FF6 representation confirmed. Remember, Terra was the last announced character in the original Dissidia. And besides, Phantom Train. The creator basically confirmed Locke in an interview a while back, though.

We're no longer in the 'pre-release info dump' phase, the game is in the hands of gamers, and a new FFVI addition seems to be entirely absent. Last edited by SpoonyBardOL; 03-07-2011 at 11:26 AM. |

There's always DLC...

The Short menu does take getting some used to, no doubt about that. Though the few times I used it long enough to do so, I found that it was marginally faster selecting commands that way. But not nearly fast enough to justify keeping it enabled.

I don't know how anyone can stand to not use it. Having your commands stacked one on top of each other is so slow! This game isn't turn-based, you know - those thirteen seconds you'll save over the course of the game are important!

You know it occurs to me that the Chancellor of Figaro is one of the few JRPG Chancellors I can think of that isn't in some way evil.
The guy even has a unique(ish) sprite and he just doesn't do anything. I'd think he was a red herring.. but... from what? |
#385
|
|||
|
|||
Actually, Squaresoft was pretty fond of defying and playing with the "evil chancellor" trope back then. FF5 had at least one non-evil chancellor as well, and Chrono Trigger both played it (very obviously) straight both early on and late-game and subverted it too.

LIFE THINGS are occurring which preclude me posting an update at midnight tomorrow, so next update will probably be around 4:30 PM PST instead. If said LIFE THINGS continue, following updates will likely be posted on Saturday mornings.
There's a few NPCs like this; they don't really have unique sprites, but the NPC "class" to which that sprite belongs is so small it's easy to think they're unique. I mean, there's what, two chancellors in the game? Three? They all look alike, but it's hard to remember that when you go hours of gameplay between seeing them. |
