It's the same graphic, but they switched around the order on the shop menu so it isn't quite as obvious or glitchy-looking:

Ah man, just did the Grog(h in the PSP remake) Hill match. Damn, 11 monks?! I can only imagine how hard it would've been if I hadn't had used Math to take out 7 of them in one go (and 2 more in the next round). Probably the only time in the game where I saw 4 treasure chests appear at the same time.

I'll try, maybe before Deep Dungeon, to show off some of the rare battles (if I can trigger them). Some of them are pretty cool! - Eddie |

I like the one at Germinas. There's also one with lots of powerful monsters that I found harder than Grog Hill's, but I can't remember exactly where it happens.

I imagine it was Barias Hill. I ran into that one quite often while I was trying to do all the side quest nonsense and it constantly kicked my butt.

Dragons and Behemoths? Are there more than usual?

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's not so much that you're fighting Dragons and Behemoths, you're fighting top tier Red Dragons and Dark Behemoths. You can also fight Hydras, which are even stronger.

As to the second question: FFT (PS1): No.* FFT (PSP): Yes. - Eddie * Of course, Gafgarion is the only Dark Knight, but if you cheated him in he couldn't use one. |

dark knights have moves beyond just gafgarion's moves. and yes they can, along with special Dark Swords.

OK, so I just completed FFT (WotL) for the first time, and wow...that ending.
PS And as far as my game expirience goes, I never managed to do Deep Dungeon, unlock the final character, and know I feel like I wasted my time stealing all of the special weapons the bosses of the final chapters had. Is there no New Game + in FFT? |

Also consider this. You're going to have to train Cid in a bunch of not so good classes to get him to Dark Knight, which doesn't even look like an all around improvement. So to get him his best stats as Dark Knight, you'd have to use a lot of degenerator traps to level his other classes down.

I finally broke down and started this game up again. I have so many other things I should be playing, but I can't resist anymore.

I'm playing something like an SCC, except with each unit as a different class. I let a friend pick the classes (excluding mime and calculator because fuck that), and the prick set me up with a Squire, Knight, Archer, Thief, and Ramza as a Geomancer. I've barely scraped by so far, but Velius is pounding me into the dirt on the rare occasion that Weigraf doesn't finish Ramza off right away. I'd like to catch up to the LP so I can play along but Urrrrrrggggh.

If you have an old save, get your Ramza into a Chameleon Robe to save you from most of Weigraf's bite (Float Shoes can help too, but get in the way of Gauntlets). Other than that, you might simply need levels. - Eddie |

No special characters, no abilities outside the job. I made Ramza the Geomancer to take advantage of his equal physical and magic stats. My generics all have close to 70 brave and 40 faith. My Thief is the only female, so I can get more use out of Steal Heart during story battles.
The first roadblock I had was the fight with Algus, but a couple lucky charms and highly defensive play (everyone went up the building) won out. The fight ended when a Wizard pegged Ramza with a fire spell, and he walked next to a badly damaged Algus before it went off. The Execution Site was next, and I ended up going with a similar tactic (up and around the wall) after ensuring that the Thief took Gaffy's sword on her first turn. The Blood Sword then allowed Ramza to stay alive for his duel with Gaffy in the next fight while everyone else used the Rubber Shoes trick. After that, the Blood Sword let my Squire tank alongside the Knight, and I got a Dracula Mantle early for my Thief (poached or stolen, I don't remember). Eventually I bought the bag with perma Regen since she spends most of her time charming people, and things went mostly ok until the attempt to save Rafa. Parking the Thief in the doorway worked well there, as Malak often liked to walk up and hit her before the Ninjas did, so they were stuck either throwing things at her (which she could catch) or going around the walls where Ramza and my Archer were waiting. A couple lucky charms and petrifies ended the fight. The attempt before that was hilarious though. The ninjas all lined up in front of the door, and Ramza managed to petrify two of them on his first turn. I thought it was over then, but my Thief got summoned to death and I realized that one of the ninja statues was now blocking the door, making it impossible for me to end the battle before she died. I don't remember whether it was shown in this LP, but during the fight one of the ninjas will turn to Malak and ask him what's going on. The game chose one of the petrified ninjas to do this, so he turned to normal, said his line, then went back to stone. I was attempting the Weigraf/Velius fight with my characters around lvl 22-25, so I'm taking them up to at least 30 before trying again. I've had reasonable success in giving Ramza the best available sword, Chameleon Robe, Twist Headband, Dracula Mantle, and Diamond Shield, so that he can beat Wiegraf about half the time with evasion. He can also use Geomancy for the last hit or two and avoid the chance of eating a counter. Of course, that tactic leaves Ramza without the benefit of Gauntlets for the one hit he generally gets on Velius. If I'm lucky, my Thief can charm a demon on her first turn. Beyond that, it's just a matter of trying to spread out while remaining close enough to get hits in, and deciding which accessory (speed, move, damage) is best for each character here. I didn't spend too much time figuring it out, as I got very lucky on an early attempt and the battle went about as well as I could have expected it to. That was the point where I decided to go level. How do the Float Shoes help? |

Well, my problem is that I've been underleveled all this time, so no. It's honestly not that bad as I've got Steal Heart and occasional Geomancer status effects to save me when I start having trouble. This looks bad compared to what normal characters can do, but I'm much better off than I would be if I'd tried some of the harder SCCs. I've got two heavy hitters, two ranged units, and two people with status effects. The Thief is a liability at times but has access to move+2 and can get me some good items earlier than I'd be able to buy them. Also, one or two successful charms can turn a fight around completely.
I also have the ability to change my strategy drastically if I need something specific. Ramza can do about 70 damage with Geomancy using equipment that boosts stats equally, or he can go for max PA and deal twice that or more with his sword. My Thief can take the regen bag and mantle to act as a third tank, or a good dagger and speed boots if I need someone to rush in and finish off nearly dead units so the others don't waste their more damaging hits on that. The Blood Sword is outdated now, but can still be used if I need my Knight to hold a position for a long time. This is the first instance where the enemy has been winning with sheer numerical power, rather than me just needing to think harder and maybe get lucky once or twice. Overall it's been very fun. I didn't mean to hijack the thread with all this, but if you're interested I can continue posting my progress, perhaps as a way to keep you all entertained between updates. |

I don't know about you guys, but Glass Knuckles' playthru of FFT sounds like the most fun way to play the game. Getting his thief to tank because she has the Regen bag? Relying on a Squire with the Blood Sword? That is hardcore awesome.
I, for one, would enjoy the extra posts to keep the FFT mojo fresh between updates (and also to avoid having to hunt down yet another thread to get my FFT fix). |
