Here's the chills and goosebumps moment for me: Ocarina of Time's "The Legend Begins Here" theme hits its apex when Ganondorf swears his eternal vendetta against Link and Zelda's descendents, then the inevitable poignant time travel moment where we find out more or less how things are going to be resolved(and how confused those guys who care about timelines are going to be), and just when you think things couldn't be more epic, OMG! ....Zelda's Lullaby played by Zelda.

Thread Necromancy? After two years of an LP being dead?
WHO THE FUCK CARES. I'M ABOUT TO BLOW YOUR FUCKIN' MIND. A long time ago, Alixsar gave us the big reveal that Sheik is Zelda. Watch this. http://youtu.be/9BdKUkFnNYc?t=3m33s Now... WATCH THIS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7OczEmbFZI |

I'm not normally in the business of thread necromancy, but I thought it would be appropriate here for a number of reasons. Let me tell you about how I finally gave Ocarina of Time a proper chance and found out I love it...
As many of you may well already know, Ocarina of Time got a port to the 3DS recently. Well, I recently got a 3DS (in anticipation of Tales of the Abyss coming out on it; I'm a sucker for a good portable RPG, especially one I know and love). During my wait for better games, I grudgingly decided to pick up OoT3D and see if maybe this time I could like the game. The N64 version had chased me off on four separate occasions with its unintuitive controller, dodgy aiming, and all-around clunky feel after having experienced Twilight Princess, so I was really banking on the updates to the 3DS version having a noticeable impact on my enjoyment of the game. And... they really did. I took immediately to the tilt-sensitive aiming, quickly learning to combine it with the analog stick aiming to get precision shots off that you would never be able to manage so swiftly on the N64 version. The visuals are no longer painfully 1998, the boots are no longer a pain to swap, menus are lightning-fast, and it just generally feels like the game it was meant to be but never quite got to be back in the day. In my typical fashion, I ended up clocking about 80 hours across 5 play-throughs (one of them on Master Quest, which was a surreal experience since it's all mirrored; shouldn't he be called Recht instead of Link in that case?). So yeah. It took me upwards of 13 years, but I finally managed to find a way to properly appreciate Ocarina of Time for the great game it is. And it was with a version that a very vocal minority of fans of the game are declaring to be the worst thing to ever happen to Ocarina of Time; I find that fitting somehow. |

I've never heard this vocal minority. What are their complaints? |

They mostly appear only on GameFAQs, and their complaints can pretty much be summed up as "it's not the N64 version, therefore it sucks".

Still good to hear you finally got into Ocarina. I still prefer Link to the Past, but OoT has its moments. |

Agreed, the tilt controls for aiming are amazing. Other parts of the game that would seem tedious (archery minigames) become enjoyable.

I feel like the only missed opportunity was the chance to have fully orchestrated (or at least redone and less N64 sounding) music but that's a pretty minor complaint given that OoT has one of my favorite soundtracks ever anyway. Exactly. For the first time, I actually had fun doing the archery game. That's an achievement in and of itself. |
