That's no woman... that's a space station.

Also, Axe Lane.

I'd fire my proton torpedos down her exhaust port.

And by proton torpedos, I mean mind explosions. And by exhaust port, I mean brain. You know. To kill her.

And nthing Axe Lane. Maybe there's a legendary weapon down such an awesome street name!

257. This rubbish-strewn cobbled street runs between rows of ramshackle, rot-infested houses and shops. The few inhabitants of Ragadorn that you see appear a cheerless lot, their faces haggard and drawn. They shuffle through the gloom, hunched against the pouring rain, their eyes fixed on the cobblestones at their feet. Then you reach a junction where Axe Lane bends towards the north and another street heads off towards the east.

Axe Lane is surprisingly dull.

Quote:
If you wish to continue north and enter Black Knight Street, turn to 335.

If you wish to head east, enter Sage Street by turning to 181.
Didn't someone earlier say that Kai Lords always go east? Seems like good advice to me.

Quote:
181. This street seems dirtier and smellier than the one you have just been down. The cluttered window of a shop to your left catches your attention. In the window are many useful Items, all of which bear a price tag.

Quote:
Sword--4 Gold Crowns
Dagger--2 Gold Crowns
Short Sword--3 Gold Crowns
Warhammer--6 Gold Crowns
Spear--5 Gold Crowns
Mace--4 Gold Crowns
Fur Blanket--3 Gold Crowns
Backpack--1 Gold Crown
You may enter and purchase any of the above Items. Remember to mark them on your Action Chart. When you have completed your purchases, you continue your way along Sage Street, towards the Ragadorn Bridge. This bridge is the only connection between the east and west sides of the port and you push your way through the crowds of people and carts. You find yourself in a rubbish-strewn thoroughfare known as East Trade Lane.

Quote:
Turn to 186.
I think I should pause here and buy some things, but I'm not sure what. Remember, I only have 34 gold.

IT'S MALL MADNESS, TALKING TIME.

Here you go! Warhammer and fur blanket, if you please; it gets mighty chilly when you're covered in the jellied skulls of your foes.

No axes? Man that street name is so misleading. I'd take a blanket, a backpack, and a sword. Because I like cutting things more than smashing them.

Don't we still have our backpack?
I say we get a warhammer and a blanket. After all the stuff we've lost, any more would probably be wasted.

what do we need a blanket for?! We have our Kai cloak! Or the tatters of it, somewhere, it's how everyone recognizes us.

now the image I have of Lone Wolf is not the indomitable hero Loki has drawn for us but instead Linus from Peanuts... Thanks... Our blankey holding hero is sure to defeat all enemies... By crying on them

I am bummed that there weren't any B. C. Rich Warlocks on Axe Street. How is Lone Wolf supposed to rock out? \m/ \m/

Anyway, a sword to make stabby, a backback to make spacey, and a blanket because when the time comes to be smooove with a an itinerant acrobat or cute sneakthief, a soft blanket will be more suitable for nocturnal lovin' coverin' than a tattered Kai robe. Cloak. Whatever.

*Sigh* I wish there were more astronomers and sages that sold warhammers. At least we can support this one with some hard-earned cash!

Let's get a backpack, Gredlen's blankey (a fur blankey! Arctic adventures, here we come!), and yes, I vote for a warhammer. Why is it more expensive than any other weapon? I don't know -- let's find out!

I believe this is right on the money. Blanket and Backpack for who-knows-what, spear because they're awesome, dagger in case something happens to the spear.

Okay, so I got the backpack, spear, warhammer, and Gredlen's blanket. This leaves me with 19 gold and I'm all set to go.

Quote:
186. You are standing opposite a large building with a sign on the wall:

RAGADORN STABLES AND COACH STATION
A green-clad coachman is sitting next to a notice board that reads, 'Port Bax--Journey Time--7 Days'.

If you wish to approach the coachman and ask to buy a ticket for the journey to Port Bax, turn to 136.

If you have no money, turn to 238.
Back on the road! Let's buy a ticket.

Quote:
238. 'The fare to Port Bax is 20 Gold Crowns,' says the coachman in a gruff Ragadornian accent.
That's fine I have plenty of mone....

Damn it, Gredlen! This is all your fault. Short by one freakin gold coin. grumble gumble gumble...

Quote:
If you have 20 Gold Crowns and wish to purchase a ticket, turn to 10.

If you do not have enough money for the fare, turn to 238.
238 it is. THIS BETTER NOT GET ME KILLED, GREDLEN.

Quote:
238, Opposite the coach station is a narrow street leading to a gaming-house with a sign outside.

No Weapons Allowed Inside
You are excited by the chance of being able to win some gold and you quickly enter. Any Weapons you may have must be left with a guard at the door. You can recover your Weapons when you decide to leave. You are given a silver token worth 1 Gold Crown, that can only be used in this gaming-house.
Casino? Neat! It feels like I've wandered into a Dragon Quest game all of a sudden.

The entrance hall opens out into a huge room where many gambling games are in progress. One that catches your eye is called 'Cartwheel'. At one end of a long table, an attractive young woman spins a black dish divided into ten sections marked 0-9. As the dish spins, she drops a small silver ball into it which eventually comes to rest in one of the numbered sections. Several merchants are seated around the table and they are betting heavily on the fall of the silver ball.[/QUOTE]

Dear lord is everyone in this country hideous? I thought the book said the game was run by an attractive woman, not the elephant man. I'm just going to pretend that she's a healslime instead.

Quote:
To play 'Cartwheel', you must first decide the number you would like to bet on and just how many Gold Crowns you would like to stake. Make a note of these numbers and then pick a number from the Random Number Table. If you pick exactly the same number, you win 8 Gold Crowns for every 1 Gold Crown that you gamble. If the number you pick is immediately before or after the correct choice, you win 5 Gold Crowns for every 1 Gold Crown that you stake. There is a limit to how much you can win on this table: 40 Gold Crowns.

You may play as many rounds of 'Cartwheel' as you wish until either you lose all your Gold Crowns or you decide to pick up your winnings (maximum of 40 Gold Crowns).

If you have lost all your Gold Crowns, turn to 169.

If you have winnings to collect, or if you wish to withdraw with what money you have left, leave the building and turn to 186.
Alright. Let's start small and bet 18 gold.

WHAT NUMBER SHOULD I PICK, TALKING TIME?

Well, since you win on X, X-1 or X+1 you want to stay away from 0 and 9 since those give you only a 2/10 instead of 3/10 chance of winning.

Personally I don't think you should gamble at all. You might walk into a crippling addiction.

Or, just use savestates and reroll every time you don't win. I mean, you said it was a Dragon Quest casino, right? Act like it!

Actualy, there's a foot note that states that 9 raps around to 0 so you win half on them if you pick the other.

THREE it is!

.
..
...
...8.

Crap. I'm down to 1 gold.

This next number you guys pick better be a winner.

I believe the errata for this book says that on the casino wheel 0 and 9 are next to each other.

But don't bet all our money! Jerk! Then we'll never get to whatsit.

You shouldn't have bet more than 8 gold You can't win more than 40, remember?

You are ALSO GAMBLING INSTEAD OF PLAYING HALO 3 WITH US. What's more fun, knocking three of us in a warthog over a cliff with a gravity hammer, or rolling a single, sad die and losing 18 golds.

Still, yay for this Let's Play not dying too!!!

Bet on 3.
