(Or, uh, if you're interested in literally blowing the guy's mind I guess it's page 133 by default, isn't it?)

We need to brain 'splode as many things as possible on this journey. 133 is the clear winner.

I'm pretty sure blowing his mind will only kill him and then we'll have proven how stupid we were. Don't prove anything to the chump!

I'm not really convinced there's an actual choice to be made here. Learning Mind Blast comes with the responsibility to blast minds whenever possible.

No exceptions.

I really want to use Animal Kinship because the scene I envision is just so lame it's awesome. "See? See? I'm a friend to rats! I'm a Kai Lord!"

But unfortunately, there's no way it could win over Mindblast. And who would want it to, really? Blast away!

348. Looking directly into the sailor's eyes, you concentrate your Mindblast at his open hand. Suddenly the man falls backwards from his chair, clutching his hand as if he had just picked up a red-hot coal. When you explain what has happened to him, he looks at you in amazement.

Turn to 268.
WHAT?! I blasted his hand?! Hands don't even have minds to blast?! What the hell, book.

Time for a little rewrite...

Quote:
348. Looking directly into the sailor's eyes, you concentrate your Mindblast at his brain. Suddenly the man falls backwards from his chair, his head exploding in a shower of blood and bone fragments. When you explain what has happened to him, he looks at you in amazement.

Turn to 268.

Much better.

Quote:
'You are indeed a Kai Lord,' says the sailor, but the astonishment on his face quickly changes to an unpleasant sneer.

'Or should I say you were!'

Quote:
As he speaks, a door crashes open behind you and you turn to see three harbour thugs advancing towards you. Each is armed with a scimitar and you have no choice but to fight all three as one enemy.

Harbour Thugs: COMBAT SKILL 16 ENDURANCE 25

You may evade after two rounds of combat by running through a side door. Turn to 125.

If you win this combat, turn to 333.
Oh, so the book wasn't teasing at all. It was an elaborate form of foreplay. Time to bash some heads.

Combat ratio: 18 + 2 - 16 = 4.

Round 1
I got a 5. Springing up from my seat I toss the table into the rouges. They fall back into each other's weapons receiving 9 damage. My hands receive 2 splinter damage. Smarts! I'm down to 27 e.

Round 2
9! I leap into the mass of brigands, biting, punching, and kicking. They're too shocked by my bravery to do anything but take 14 damage, and I emerge unscathed.

Round 3
8! Though I've pretty much got them beat at this point I decide to go for the overkill and manage to break 12 bottles over their heads, doing one point of damage each. Soon the tavern is nothing more than ruined furniture and broken bottles strewn with the corpses of my enemies. Huzzah!

Quote:
333. The sailor who claimed to be First Mate Ronan seems to have escaped during the fight. You quickly search the bodies of the harbour thugs, but find nothing of value. However, you do notice that each of them has a tattoo of a serpent on their left wrist. Whoever sent them to kill you must already know of the importance of your quest.

You leave the tavern by the side door and discover the dead body of a sailor lying beneath some stairs. Inside the collar of his bloodstained jacket is a tag bearing the name 'Ronan'. This must be the real Ronan. He has been murdered. You cover the body and turn towards the quay, where the Green Sceptre is anchored about three hundred yards from the harbour wall.

If you wish to use one of the many small boats or coracles that are roped to the quayside, turn to 300.

If you wish to hunt down the impostor who pretended to be Ronan, turn to 67.
I don't want to miss my boat. On the other hand...

Talking Time! DO I PERSUE REVENGE?

Default do sailors count as people?

So no harm no foul as I see it, to the awaiting high-seas adventure!

Also you said rouges instead of rogues in that last post, which is ok we all know pirates wear make-up, bet they were pretty pissed when your table attack messed up all that eye-shadow...

You must slay him and take his codpiece. That thing is going to haunt my dreams until you take it and throw it into the magma in which it was forged.

Hunt him! Slay him!

No, we cannot be late for the boat! If we miss our ride now, how will we get to where we need to be? 40 days! Remember, 40 days!

Also, you can hunt him down when you get your Aweseomswerd. Just remember that!

This is all a trick, as he's in one of the many small boats and coracles. He figured your destination was the last place you'd look if you wanted revenge. Also, what the hell is a coracle?

Much as I want to get revenge right now, clearly his goal is to keep us from getting our Sword of Awesome. If we hunted him down now, we would only help him achieve his goal. We have to continue on with our journey and hope we get a chance to kick his ass later.

This.

I think my favourite part of the article is the Welsh spelling.

Too bad you couldn't have shown off your spider-sense and called him out for being a fraud. Alas, poor Ronan! It's a good thing his mom stitched his name into his clothes, though, or else his body might never have been identified!

He needs to be a recurring villain that we will keep fighting and he will escape until we face him the final time and he evolves into his final form. So yeah, just head to the ship.

Is that a gigantic codpiece, or is he wearing his trapdoor longjohns backwards?

As much as I want to track them down and discover their fashion secrets, the gentleman dog presents a solid case: that's just what they want you to do.

Onwards, then! To the sea!

Noy'ja taut! I'm going to miss my ship! To the boats!

Quote:
300. As you paddle towards the sleek trade caravel, you notice to your surprise that the boarding ladder is being pulled up. A mean-looking sailor leans over the gunwale and curses at you. He seems to think that you are a refugee trying to stowaway on board. But when you shout that you are Lone Wolf and you were ambushed by an impostor at the tavern, the ladder is soon lowered again. As you climb over the side of the ship, you are met by a tall man in a gold-braided uniform. His face is almost totally covered by a shock of bright red hair and a bright red beard.

Quote:
'Haul anchor!' he booms. The crew spring into action as if their very lives depended on it.

The captain ushers you below to his cabin where he pours two glasses of wanlo, a strong spirit. His face shows concern as you tell him what has happened.

'There is evil treachery at work and the enemy already has plans afoot to thwart your quest,' he begins when you've told your tale. 'It seems that you have lost the element of surprise--and I have lost a courageous first mate. Let us only hope that the voyage to Durenor be swift and safe.'

Quote:
You leave him to go up on deck just in time to see the outline of Holmgard on the horizon. With mixed feelings of pride and apprehension, you descend the stairway to your cabin as the last spire of the capital disappears from view.

Pick a number from the Random Number Table.

If the number that you have picked is 0-1, turn to 224.

If the number is 2-3, turn to 316.

If the number is 4-5, turn to 81.

If the number is 6-7, turn to 22.

If the number is 8-9, turn to 99.
I caressed a 2.

Quote:
316. The following morning you are woken by the cry of the ship's lookout high in the crow's nest: 'Ship ahoy! Ship off the starboard bow!'

You climb up on deck and brace yourself against the fresh sea breeze. On the horizon, you can see the wooded coastline of eastern Sommerlund, but in the middle distance is a merchant ship that looks badly damaged. It is low in the water and has only one mast remaining intact. It flies the flag of Durenor but the flag is upside down, a signal of distress.
Oh no! They must have been attacked by The Maelstrom. I'll get you for this Bloth!

Quote:
Pick a number from the Random Number Table.

If the number you have picked is 0-4, turn to 107.

If the number is 5-9, turn to 94.
This time I picked 8.

Quote:
94. You urge the captain to investigate the vessel, but he ignores your plea and orders the crew to continue with their duties. As the trading ship disappears from view, you stare at it and wonder why the captain was so reluctant to do anything.

You descend below deck and take care to lock the door of your cabin behind you.

Turn to 240.
Lame. I wanted to fight some pirates.

...Pirates of dark water...

...

...

...monkeybirds.

Quote:
240. After three uneventful days at sea, you find shipboard life rather dreary. If you have the Kai Discipline of Healing, any ENDURANCE points that you may have lost on your adventure so far are restored. This will bring your ENDURANCE points score back to your original one. If you do not possess the skill, restore half of any points you have lost in combat.

Quote:
On the afternoon of the fourth day, you are talking with an injured sailor up on deck when you smell smoke seeping from the hold.

If you wish to enter the hold, turn to 29.

If you wish to shout 'Fire!' turn to 236.

If you wish to warn the captain, turn to 101.
A fire on a ship is a BIG DEAL.

I'm panicking, Talking Time! SHOULD I STOP, DROP, AND ROLL?

That's not smoke. That is very obviously mutant space brocolli. I'd tell you to enter the hold, but you aren't armed with cheese sauce, so you should probably go warn the captain. Page 101.
