For what it's worth, I would have asked if the answer wasn't given before I checked the thread. I have been following this, but it's specifically because I don't know Fire Emblem (beyond the very basics that are obvious following any LP of it) that a) I can't meaningfully participate otherwise and b) I'm interested in mechanics details.

Oh my God Florina capped Strength, Speed, and Skill.
At this point, I should probably give her an A Support with Hector so I can get an excuse to hack Lilina to start with max stats. |

After receiving aid from Queen Hellene, Hector rushes to the sealed shrine. The secret road they follow is known only to the royal family… They pass Bern's soldiers unnoticed and unhindered. They approach the castle…
Quote:
This map only gives me ten characters to work with. Such a shame. Anyways, unlike Eliwood’s Tale, Hector’s version of Cog of Destiny (Lloyd) mostly has enemy magic users. Because of this, Rebecca and Raven (and by proxy Wil) are out. I really ought to bring Serra (there are some awesome things to steal here), but I don’t want to risk it. In fact, I’m just going to kill my Experience rank and only bring promoted units. Anyways, this chapter’s objective is to kill all enemies. As such, my strategy is going to be a simple divide and conquer. Fiora, Farina, Florina, and Kent are taking the left path, Harken, Eliwood, and Guy are taking the center path, and Bartre’s taking the right path, with Lyn trying to keep up with him. Quote:
God damn it. Quote:
This seems like a bad level up, doesn’t it? Thing is, Florina had already capped Speed and Skill. With that level up, she’s capped Strength. I guess I’ll be manipulating for Luck growths now. Quote:
I really wish I had a Map attack. Or a Chain attack. Quote:
Murdock you are the best person ever. I am so sad I have to kill you next game. Quote:

Despite the fact that they kept the map sprite of a female Druid, they didn’t keep the battle sprite. Anyways, I decided to Triangle Attack this Druid because Luna is way too dangerous. Quote:
…I actually forgot Vaida comes in this chapter. Good thing I left Hector at the beginning so he wouldn’t steal any experience. (HP: 60%, Str: 45%, Skl: 25%, Spd: 40%, Lck: 30%, Def: 25%, Res: 15%) Vaida’s two levels higher than Florina and getting Hard Mode bonuses, yet the only stat Vaida is superior in is her ridiculous Defense. That doesn’t mean Vaida’s bad though. Honestly, she’s probably one of the better units, again because her base stats are just so high, but Florina’s doing even better. As such, Vaida’s getting a fast track to the bench. Quote:
So much for Hector not stealing any experience. Merlinus has 20 Speed and he’s in a forest, so he’ll be fine. Still, I’ll need to send some units back. Quote:

Out of curiosity, I decided to see if Lloyd’s Iron Rune would protect him from a Triangle Attack. It didn’t. Quote:
Hilariously, when Ninian transferred her powers back to Nils, she also transferred her player character status. Because of this, the game remembered that Nils is supposed to be a Fire Dragon, so… Quote:

Chapter 30: The Berserker To the west of Elibe lies an archipelago known as the Western Isles. Here, a sacred weapon lies waiting, the seal guarding it broken. However, to retrieve the weapon, one must pass a trial. Armads, a sacred axe filled with the destructive force of thunder. To wield it, one must prove one's worth. Hector faces a test unlike any he's ever experienced. Quote:
Only two units are allowed, and one of them has to be Hector. Since this map has pretty weak enemies, I decided to bring Wil in to get a level or two. In hindsight, I should’ve brought Nino. Oh, and just like the FE6 version, this map has a bunch of poison gas vents to make your day annoying. Quote:
Hector’s sword sprite is awesome. Quote:

Chapter 31: Sands of Time Because my Experience ranking took a more significant hit than I expected, I’m going to bite the bullet and try and use Nino next chapter. Quote:

Ninian is dead. Now, only Nergal's echoing laughter remains… On Hector's advice, the group heads toward Ostia. They are weary to the bone, and they need time to regroup. Ostia is the most heavily guarded fortress city in all of Lycia. No enemy should have been able to breach its walls.

Quote:
This another survival mission. Once again, I don’t care if I might get a reward for saving those NPCs, nothing is worth babying such idiocy. Oh, and the formation seen above is not what I used. Nino should be an Archer, and she, Florina, Rebecca, and Fiora are the ones at the bottom right. Anyways, time for a lesson! It’s called: Why Warp Is Amazing. Warp teleports an adjacent unit to a spot of your choice. How far you can move the unit depends on the caster’s Magic stat, but this is Raven we’re talking about so that’s not even an issue. Warp lets me move otherwise slow units directly into the fray. It also gives the caster a nice chunk of experience, but that’s neither here nor there. Still, this was just a demonstration; there are much better places to use Warp’s measly five uses. Alright, time to actually start the chapter. Nino is relying on her A Supports with Florina and Rebeccas to get as many Critical hits as possible, as that is the only way she’s going to be killing things for a while. Meanwhile, I’m warping Wil over here so he can enter Rebecca’s Support zone and hopefully draw some fire away from Nino. Quote:
Here’s what Wil looks like promoted. Quote:
Random fact: Longbows have decreased accuracy if you use their three panel range attack. Quote:

Matthew promoted. Where did he get a Guiding Ring, you ask? Er, he found one. On the ground. Totally. Quote:
Kent’s capped Strength, and Wil’s one point away from doing so himself. I’m fine with these level ups. Farina’s enemy phase level up is just shameful though. Quote:

Chapter 31x: Battle Preparations Quote:
Quote:
I’m going to be using the 30,000 gold I was handed at the beginning of the map and my two Silver Cards to try to save my Funds ranking by buying as many Killer weapons as I can. But first, something special happens if you bring Bartre to this chapter in Hector’s Tale. He needs to be a Level 5 or higher Warrior though. Quote:
Quote:
Recruiting Karla can be hard, as both she and Bartre have to survive the battle they have with each other. This isn’t hard for Bartre, barring an unlucky critical (the Iron Rune fixes that though), but this is really hard for Karla. To succeed, you’ll need to take advantage of the fact that Warriors can equip Bows. Quote:
(HP: 60%, Str: 25%, Skl: 45%, Spd: 55%, Lck: 40%, Def: 10%, Res: 20%) I honestly have no idea what Intelligent Systems were thinking when they put Karla in 31x. Her recruitment speech implies that she was supposed to be obtained before you found Karel, and nothing about the battle she has with Bartre says they have to be in an arena. In any case, Karla only has four chapters to build Supports with people, so all of her Supports are going to get mixed together to save space. With that done, might as well use the arena. Quote:

Chapter 32: Victory or Death (HP: 60%, Str: 40%, Skl: 30%, Spd: 35%, Lck: 15%, Def: 20%, Res: 40%) Renault is just meh. Quote:

Hector moves ahead, and his brother Uther's dying wish goes with him. His destination is the Dread Isle. An enemy waits there, one who must be defeated. Nergal surrounds himself with his morphs and waits for Hector's arrival. The final battle draws near…
Hector Hard’s Victory or Death is ridiculous. I have 20 turns to recruit Renault, talk to Sophia, pick up Set‘s Litany, and get Hector across the map. Oh, and I also have to deal with super powered enemies that constantly spawn in as I advance. Whatever am I to do? Abuse Warp, that’s what. Quote:
I have finally reached the point in the game where Iron weapons just aren’t as effective anymore. Time to bust out all of the Killer weapons I bought! Quote:
Much like Cog of Destiny, there are three paths to Limstella. I’m going to be sending units down each of them, keeping Nils in the back with Merlinus in case I get back attacked. Quote:

Valkryies have been spawning here for at least two turns now, so I decided to drop Guy and Wil here to handle them. Valkyries and Falcon Knights have also been spawning here, and since it’s only Turn 9 I’m going to let Hector and Eliwood get some levels. In case the enemies stop spawning, I’ll have Raven Warp Hector. Finally, these guys are the only things between Limstella and my remaining units. Raven’s capped Magic and Speed, so there’s really nowhere left for him to grow when it comes to enemy phase level ups. Quote:
Quote:
So one thing I didn’t talk about earlier was how Renault is quite possibly the worst character in the game. Not only does he have terrible growths and not enough levels to use them, but he also has a ridiculously crappy base Magic stat. Renault is a healer who can’t heal things very well. It makes sense when you know he used to be a melee unit, but it doesn’t make him any less crappy. Quote:

Ha, Nils got a critical. I dare say this mission was a success. As an aside, what the heck is up with my play time? I’m pretty sure I haven’t played for 25 hours. …Maybe it’s because I’ve used turbo? Quote:

Chapter 32x: Value of Life Hector gains the upper hand in the battle of Valor. Taking the lead, Hector moves straight toward the Dragon's Gate. Before his eyes, eerie ruins appear. What could they be? Are they connected to Nergal? If they overlook any enemy lurking within, they could be attacked from the rear. Without pause, they open the rusty steel door and step inside… Quote:

My Experience rank took another massive hit, so I’m going with Team Low Level (replace Matthew with Serra, and you’ll get my team). FYI, the chests held a Fortify and a Runesword. |

Chapter 33: Light Athos is ridiculously overpowered. Anyways, the next chapter only lets me bring in seven units besides Hector, Eliwood, Lyn, Nils, and Athos. I’d like to leave it up to you guys who I bring in, though I have a sinking suspicion that nobody else is going to post and I’ll have to choose. The following people are eligible for the final chapter. Last edited by BlitzBlast; 07-22-2011 at 03:26 PM. |

What are the ranking stars based on?
|
#264
|

|

Now, let's see... Here's how I think they go, but I'm not certain. Tactics: How quickly you finish maps. Survival: How many characters you've left dead. Basically a guaranteed five unless you're playing it wrong. Funds: The value of your gold and unused items, compared to some standard or another. Exp: Amount of exp gained across all units. Since higher level units get less, always using the same few characters drives this rating down. Combat: ...Wins versus Losses, maybe? No idea, to be honest. |

They are based off bullshit.

Combat looks at how many wins you've had compared to your total number of battles. Five stars is having 40% of your battles being wins.

I don't think I've ever gotten Rennault's support conversations. Pretty interesting to hear about him, you'd think he'd be a little more important in the main storyline than he is, though. Too bad noone bothers using him for the final chapters because he sucks gameplay wise. Anyways, here are my picks for the final chapter.
