So, just as a note of what's to come, Priscilla sucked. Even after twenty resets, I couldn't get her to get a level up that didn't suck.

Also, Castle Caelin is full of archers and Port Badon is filled with axe users. And you guys made me bring in two aerial units.

I won’t be supersizing any maps bigger than four screens. Anyways, the main things to note about Castle Caelin is that there are way too many Archers. So all you people who asked me to bring Florina and wanted Priscilla to be a Pegasus Knight? Screw you.

Also, from turn 7 onwards a Cavalier and a Nomad will spawn at the bottom of the map and will totally kill Merlinus if you don‘t leave some people behind. That’s why I had to repeat this mission.

As for strategy, what’s there to say? Move forward, recruit Raven and Lucius, save the stupid Caelin NPCs, open the chests (bottom two hold an Unlock and a Hero Crest, top two hold a Silver Sword and a Knight Crest), and kill the boss.

Quote:
Hector: Mark. We can’t count on the captured Caelin soldiers to be able to fight. We’ll have to protect them as much as possible. What!? That chill feeling… Someone’s watching… and wants me dead! No sense in worrying, though. I’ll deal with it when it happens. Let’s go, Mark!
This is a hint that Hector actually has some magic potential.

Quote:
Marcus: Lord Eliwood...

Eliwood: Marcus?

Marcus: I have been watching you progress on your journey...

Eliwood: What is it? There’s no need for formalities with me.

Marcus: Ah, just, I was thinking how much you’ve grown... Even on this journey, seeing you go off to battle, brave and strong. You have much of your father’s presence.

Eliwood: You think so?

Marcus: I do. Mine eyes fill with tears of joy, truly...

Eliwood: There you go with the poetry again, Marcus. ...That reminds me of something my father once spoke of. Marcus, you went into battle by my father’s side when he was young?

Marcus: Indeed. I was just a page at the time. But under Lord Elbert’s command I swung my spear as best I could.

Eliwood: And you fight by my side on this, my journey, as well.

Marcus: I made a promise to Lord Elbert. I swore to protect the lord Eliwood until his return. Knights of Pherae always carry out their orders, you see.

Eliwood: And Pherae owes its very existence to you, Marcus. Thank you.

Marcus: Thanks are wasted on me. I merely do my duty.

Alright, time to make Raven change his gender… next chapter. The codes only go up to slot 16, and Raven’s in either slot 19 or 20.

Quote:
Bartre: Ah! You!

Raven: ...What?

Bartre: That gaze that misses nothing! That gait free of wasted effort! You are strong! And someday, we shall fight!

Raven: What are you talking about?

Bartre: Uwaaaaaah! ...Ungf!

Raven: ...Hey, are you hurt?

Bartre: H-Hey! What’s the big idea! Why’d you step aside!? You knew I’d fall!

Raven: I believe I should be the one asking “what’s the big idea.”

Bartre: What need have we of chit-chat! We are men who live by the strength of our arms! Fists, not words! We--We talk with our fists!

Raven: ... ...

Bartre: If you have not realized this, then you are greener than I thought! Bwah hah hah!

Raven: I...see.

Bartre: So--gaaah! Wh-What was that all about, all of a sudden--

Raven: I believe you were the one who rushed me first?

Bartre: W-Wait! I dropped my axe when I fell just now, and-- Whaa!?

Raven: Fists, not words, right?

Bartre: H-Hey! I-I know your type... Cool face and heart of fire! Men shouldn’t be temper--uwwaoh! W-Wait! Whoaa! I-I said wait! Wait!

Crap.

What are you idiots doing there are two archers right there argh

Quote:
Marcus: Hrrmph!

Lowen: Urrgh...

Marcus: What, can’t you stand up, Lowen? What kind of a knight can’t take a single blow of my spear?

Lowen: Y-yes, sir...!

Marcus: And again! Grrarr!

Lowen: Oooff!

Marcus: Ha! And how about this one?

Lowen: Hunngggh! Ahh...

Marcus: Lowen... If a mere glancing thrust like that is enough to dismount you, you need far more training! Now listen...before we meet to spar again...

Lowen: Not... yet... I can... still take more... Sir Marcus... Please continue...

Marcus: ...... All right, then! Next, take...that!!

I reset something like twenty times trying to get Priscilla a level up that didn’t suck. This was the best I could do.

I think this boss is screwed.

He was.

Quote:
Wil: Lady Lyndis, are you all right?

Lyn: Wil? You surprised me! What's the matter?

Wil: I, too, am one of the knights of Caelin, you see... As such, I must protect you as well as I can.

Lyn: Yes, yes of course. And how are you, Wil? Are you unhurt?

Wil: I am quite fine!

Lyn: Wil, you seem much happier now than you did back in the castle. Why is that?

Wil: It might be imprudent of me to say this, but... Something about this kind of expedition excites me! There are so many new things to see!

Lyn: Wil, you are from Pherae, are you not? Tell me...what sort of place is Pherae? It's under the rule of Eliwood's house, so I would think it peaceful, perhaps?

Wil: Yes. It is a nice place. It is near the sea, and the smell of the brine rides on the wind. I have not been home in a long time...

Lyn: Your parents are well, yes? Do you write to them often?

Wil: Eh!? Ah... Not that often, no...

Lyn: Well! That won't do! You should write them at once! That's an order!
Chapter 17x: The Port of Badon

Hector’s Tale features a notably different conversation with Fargus.

Quote:
Fargus: Well, whelps, what is it you wanted to see me about?

Hector: I’m Hector. You’re the pirate chief, Fargus, right?

Fargus: Gwah ha ha! Tell me something, lad, where were you raised? Is that the tone you take when you’re about to ask a favor?

Hector: You insolent…

Eliwood: Peace, Hector!

Hector: Bah… don’t worry. All right, I’m sorry old man. Okay? Listen, we need your help.

Fargus: Hmph… you’re an odd bird. You sure you’re noble born? I’m Fargus, captain of the Davros. Now what do you want?

Hector: We want you to sail us to Valor.

Fargus: How much will you pay?

Hector: Don’t know the current rate. How much do you need?

Fargus: 100,000 gold.

Hector: What!? 100,000 gold?! You’re daft, old man!

Fargus: Well, will you pay?

Hector: Very well. We don’t have it with us. We’ll get your gold and be back here as quickly as possible. Let’s go, Eliwood.

Eliwood: Hector?

*Hector, Eliwood, and Mark exit the pub*

Eliwood: Hector! Where do you plan on getting 100,000 gold?

Hector: I’ve got a plan.

Eliwood: A plan?

Hector: I’ve got to get back to Ostia.

Eliwood: Oh… you’re going to ask Lord Uther for the gold.

Hector: Don’t be stupid! I will not kneel at my brother’s feet to beg for money!

Eliwood: Then why are you going to Ostia?

Hector: I’ve got some ceremonial garb, armor, helmet, books… I’ll bring it all and sell it!

Eliwood: Hector… Are you sure about this?

Hector: Yes. My brother would be unwilling to part with that much money… Not without knowing the reason why. And we don’t have time to waste! There’s not much I can take freely, but it’s a start. We’ll take that money to the arena and raise 100,000 gold!

Eliwood: Good idea, Hector. I’m off to Pherae!

Dart: Ahoy! Hold you ground, boys!

Hector: What now? We don't have the money yet.

Dart: Fool! Of course you don't! I know that. The captain's got a message for you.

Eliwood: A message?

Dart: All of my mates in this village are going to attack you. If you can beat us all and get to the ship unharmed, he'll give you passage.

Eliwood: For free? No gold?

Dart: The captain's a tad off-kilter. He'd rather have a bit o' fun with you than take your gold. Smooth sailing to you.

Eliwood: Do you think he’s serious?

Hector: Just play along. Let’s go!
After that, the dialogue proceeds as normal.

The way you’re supposed to handle this map is to sneak around the main forces using the upper path. You guys asked me to just charge through the middle.

This is both a terrible idea and an excellent one. The pirates on the main path are as strong as hell and have some super powerful equipment (though one has a Devil Axe). Beating them both gives a ton of experience and quickly clears a path to the arena. Since I have ten turns to beat this chapter for a good Tactics score, and because I need a bunch of money if you ever want to get anything done in this game, getting to the arena as fast as possible is a priority.

Also, Canas! I can’t change his class yet, but he’s going to just be walking around visiting villages for me. Also, Bartre is taking his Secret Book. With it, he’ll have raised his Skill high enough to no longer have to worry about it.

There is a conveniently placed tree right here, and Eliwood’s going to be making the most of it.

Crap. On Hector’s Tale (or is it just on Hard?), this boss moves.

Quote:
Priscilla: Lord Brother...

Raven: Ah, Priscilla...

Priscilla: It is I-- Might I be with you a moment?

Raven: ...Certainly.

Priscilla: Thank you. ... ...

Raven: Something wrong?

Priscilla: I...am very happy. To be next to my lord brother like this... I have dreamed often of this day.

Raven: ... ...

Priscilla: Um...Lord Brother? ...Do you remember this ring?

Raven: Hmm, what’s that?

Priscilla: You have forgotten... That is too bad. When I was young... When I was with you in Cornwell... You made a promise to me, brother. You said: When I grew larger, you’d take me as your bride.

Raven: Yes, but, surely... Priscilla... ?

Priscilla: Yes, I know. It was a child’s game. So you said to me as I cried and cried... And then you gave me this ring.

Raven: And...And you still...

Priscilla: I am still a child -- So allow me one more childish wish of you. Please, let me stand here, by your side. Don’t make me suffer in loneliness again.

Raven: ... …

Thankfully, the boss decided to attack Hector, who proceeded to double critical him into oblivion.

A mediocre level up, but not having to deal with a Paladin is worth it.

This time it’s a terrible level up, but having Eliwood survive this really, really, really, REALLY dangerous Pirate is more than worth it.

Turn 3 of Operation Suicide. The Pirate I’m displaying and that Archer down there both hold Killer weapons, so they need to die now.

It probably says something about these enemies that a critical hit did not kill this Archer.

Quote:
Wil: Dearest Mother and Father, I am sure you are both quite well as I write this... No, that's not how to begin... Hrm...

Lyn: Wil? What is it? You've been mumbling over there for a while...

Wil: L-L-Lady Lyndis!

Lyn: Well, you'd think I was a monster come to eat you! Say, did you ever write that letter?

Wil: Actually, that's what I was about to do, you see...

Lyn: Wil!

Wil: Ayee! H-Hey! It's tough, you know! I mean, I haven't been home in five years. What do I say?

Lyn: Five years!?

Wil: Yes, well, a lot has happened...

Lyn: But when I met you in Bern, didn't you say you were on your way home?

Wil: Ah... You remember that?

Lyn: Wil!

Wil: C-C'mon, give me a break! Why should I go home? My parents don't care either way.

Lyn: ...Is that true?

Wil: Huh?

Lyn: Nothing. ...Sorry for pushing you so.

Wil: Lady Lyndis?

This guy, though? He’s dead. I have no idea why I’m getting so many criticals, but I’m not going to complain.

I need someone to take the upper path, and Lyn seemed like a good idea. I’m sure she won’t resent not being part of the Pirate slaughter.

Turn 4 of Operation Suicide. Eliwood personally killed at least four Pirates, but now his Rapier is almost broken. Meanwhile, Hector rescued Wil and proceeded to survive something like five attacks in a row. I should go heal him.

oh god what is that

I know I said I was going to have Canas just visit villages, but this Archer seriously needs to die.

Quote:
Lucius: You... You are with us, aren’t you? I am Lucius. I am...delighted to make your acquaintance.

Priscilla: I am Priscilla. It is an honor, sir.

Lucius: Lady...Priscilla...? Are you... Might you be... of House Cornwell?

Priscilla: Hm? Have we met... somewhere before?

Lucius: No...I have just heard your name in passing, I believe. Lord Raven has... Forgive me... To you, he is Raymond, is he not?

Priscilla: Are you a friend of my brother, Raymond?

Lucius: Yes. I served House Cornwell. Raymond has told me of you. He said that he once had a sister who was sent to live with the count of Caerleon.

Priscilla: So... My brother speaks of me?

Lucius: Have you seen Raymond recently?

Priscilla: Yes... He is the same as always... He is a fine man.

I’ve got three turns. Let’s do this.

In the end I got about 3000 gold and one level. Not really worth it, in my opinion.

Chapter 18: Pirate Ship

No new unit next time, but I’m going to be doing two chapters again. As such, this time you guys decide the fate of Fiora and Dart.

(HP: 70%, Str: 35%, Skl: 60%, Spd: 50%, Lck: 30%, Def: 20%, Res: 50%)

(HP: 70%, Str: 65%, Skl: 20%, Spd: 60%, Lck: 35%, Def: 20%, Res: 15%)

I'm also still counting votes for Canas.

Fiora should be a Pirate.

I also suggest we make Fiora an archer or cavalier if the archer sprite is too ugly due to the mounted/unmounted thing.

Default Luck manipulation yay

I dunno, bigger numbers kind of got boring after a while. Making numbers small and interesting is nice.

I believe all unpromoted units (Lords included) have all stats (except HP) capped at 20.

I could care less about the numbers. It's the animations that make Fire Emblem boring.

As Satonakaja said, 20 is the cap for everything but HP and Luck.

I... kind of like this idea. Or Archmage. Because the beard is, like, the opposite of Canas.

Magic Horsie girl into another Nomad maybe? Or another wyvern rider. Maybe magic horsie food has been tainted with wyvern mutagen.

Turning Canas into an Archsage would make him completely useless for the same reason turning him into any other promoted class would make him useless.

Rapid contradiction aside, he's got a monocle. (Do non-main Lords work for Seizing? If so, change Hector into a General soon.)

Oh my God, you actually did it. BlitzBlast, you have balls of steel.

I dunno. In all honesty, I think SRW goes too far in the other direction - it's so over the top that it just gets annoying to watch after a while. Fire Emblem's more reserved, but it makes its crazy acrobatics and spellcasting count and reigns it back in in favour of letting the game move faster.

Canas: Make him a Pirate. YARRRRR

Dart: I'm guessing he's not up for voting for the same reason Raven couldn't be changed right away? In any case, I say we turn him into either a Knight or a Fighter, depending on which one looks better in the end.

Fiora: Do Cavaliers have female sprites in FE7? If so, make her one. If not, make her a WyvernRider instead.

Oh damn, I actually forgot about Dart. But yeah, he's up for voting.

(What I'm trying to say is that after the incredibly basic movements of Fire Emblem, Super Robot War's crazy ass animations are really, really refreshing. Plus, personal battle themes.)

Nope. And seriously, I'm not changing any of the Lords. The special weapons are tied to their classes, not their character data, so changing their classes would ban me from using the Rapier, Wolf Beil, Mani Katti, Durandal, Armads, and Sol Katti. I kind of need those.

i don't know what you're talking about

But SRW can be faster than Fire Emblem. Or at least more convenient to turn animations off and on, since you can easily do that on a per-attack basis instead of having to dive through option menus for it, and you can just skip the rest of the battle animation if you don't want to watch the whole thing. I usually only turn them on when I want to see some bastard boss get wrecked in an awesome way.

I'm feeling like Geitz might be the best option. Or at least most effective, since he's got nice hard mode states, solid growths where it counts, and plenty of levels left to take advantage of them.

I kind of want someone to turn into a Magic Seal at some point. It doesn't really matter who, since stats don't really mean much to him. He'll just walk around and ruin everyone's day.

I apologize, but this update is filled with Support Conversations.

Quote:
Serra: You know, I’ve been thinking... If you have trouble around guys... Maybe it’s just because you’re shy... See, you’re even a little reserved when talking to other women...

Florina: Y-Yes... I am.

Serra: Then you just need to have more confidence! No matter who you’re with, just think of yourself as being better than them! That’ll do it!!

Florina: I can’t think of them...as equals?

Serra: No, no, not at all! Think of them as lowly little bugs if you can.

Florina: As...as bugs?

Serra: look, your shyness is pretty deeply ingrained, right? Then you’ll have to take drastic measures!! Stand up straight! Push out that chest! Raise that chin! Look me in the eye! No! I’m a bug, remember! Look at me with disgust!

Florina: Err, umm... Stand up...straight. Puff out... Like this?

Serra: No! No! No! More defiant! And your legs! Take a wider stance! Yeah! That’s better!

Florina: ...Um... I feel weird...

Serra: The eyes! Don’t forget! Raise your chin! More disdain!

Florina: ...My...neck... ...hurts…
Hector’s Chapter 18 has an exclusive scene with him and Lyn.

Quote:
Lyn: ……

Hector: Eliwood! …Huh?

Lyn: If you’re looking for Eliwood, he’s talking with the captain.

Hector: Oh. I won’t bother him then.

Lyn: ………Do you need something?

Hector: I’d like you to stop pouting. This pirate ship is the only way for us to get to the Dread Isle. I thought you understood that. Was I mistaken?

Lyn: How I feel or what I think is no concern of yours!

Hector: Eliwood told me… about your parents and those bandits. But these pirates? They don’t seem like bad fellows.

Lyn: It wasn’t just my parents! My entire tribe! Everyone was killed! They poisoned our drinking water… My people were in such pain, they could hardly stand… That’s when the bandits attacked! They waited until we were defenseless!

Hector: ……

Lyn: My father put me on his horse, and I escaped… Just me. My poor father… the pain must have been terrible. He lifted me up… his arms shaking…… with his last breath… Now do you understand? I was found unconscious by another tribe… and I awoke ten days later. When I awoke… What I felt… The bodies of my people had already been buried. I never even had the chance to say farewell. My last memory of my father… He was… broken… dying. I can still see the axes rising and falling. It… It’s not…… Hey!!

Hector: You’re a strong woman, Lyndis. I thought you would not want anyone to see you cry.

Lyn: You’re such a fool! If you think that’s what I want, then why not just leave!

Hector: I… I lost my parents, too.

Lyn: You…

Hector: It was illness that took them. Nothing like what happened to you. Still, I wanted nothing more than to cry like a little baby. And yet, I couldn’t cry… Not in front of others. And when I was alone, I found I still couldn’t. So… I simply thought… I don’t know [how to cry]…

Lyn: You really are a fool. That’s no way to… You can’t just…………

Hector: ……
From there, the dialogue goes back to normal. That means Ninian gets pulled aboard, which means that the Black Fang attack, which means that this Chapter finally starts.

I’d have liked to use Canas or Guy, but I only get 8 units, and Matthew, Rebecca, and Raven need to catch up. I threw in Wil simply because Rebecca could use the assist.

Anyways, strategy. Kill everything. Watch out for those Pegasus Knights though; they still hate Merlinus.

It’s a good idea to buy some weapons here. There’s no way to restock on Dread Isle, and I’m already running low on weapons anyways. Anyways, I gave Eliwood the Silver Card to essentially double my money (the game counts the overall value of all of your items for your Funds ranking. When you buy something with a Silver Card, you get it at half the price, but the item retains its value. As such, if you constantly buy everything with a Silver Card you can quickly boost up your Funds ranking).

I swear to God the RNG was just fucking with me here. I had to go through almost seventeen random numbers before I got a level up that didn’t just boost HP.

Quote:
Florina: Um... Th-Thank you for saving me! Do... Do you remember me? I am Florina... servant of House Caelin... ...I said it! I... I did say it, didn’t I! Huey, I said it! Now, if I can just... ...I can say it to Lord Hector’s face now, right? C’mon, Florina! Chin up! Take a deep breath... You have to speak loudly, remember! ... ... J-Just once more... For practice... Breathe deep... Lord Hector!

Hector: Yeah?

Florina: Ack!

Hector: Say, aren’t you one of Lyn’s...

Florina: Aaah! S-Sorry!! I beg your p-pardon!

Hector: What was that all about? Am I some kind of monster? Huh.

Man, what is up with this chapter? It took a ridiculous amount of resets to get just this.

Huh. I don’t remember a third ship boarding. Oh well, Hector and Eliwood are already in position to kill them.

Quote:
Wil: Greetings! We seem to run into each other often.

Raven: ... ...

Wil: You’re Raven, right? I’m Wil. Nice to make your acquaintance.

Raven: Ah...

Wil: Say, Raven. I’ve got a question for you, as a fellow in arms...

Raven: What?

Wil: How old are you?

Raven: Why ask me that?

Wil: I was just thinking that we were probably about the same. But you’ve got this aura like you’ve seen it all... And you talk like you’re older... So maybe you are, I thought.

Raven: ...And what of it if I am?

Wil: Eh? So you are older! Ah, I shoulda shown more respect, eh?

Raven: ... ...

Wil: Very well. I shall treat you as my senior in all things henceforth! Nice to make your acquaintance, senior!

Raven: ... …

why didn’t i bring serra argh

A mediocre level up, but at least Wil survived.

Quote:
Priscilla: Lucius...

Lucius: Ah, Priscilla...

Priscilla: About...what I asked you earlier... You said my brother spoke to you about me...

Lucius: Yes.

Priscilla: What...exactly did he say?

Lucius: Ah, yes... That you were his younger sister, Priscilla, who left Cornwell when still young...

Priscilla: And...what else did he say?

Lucius: What else? That you were close as children... That you were often in ill health... and that you were very shy...

Priscilla: Was there nothing else? For example... That I was cute when I was small... Or that he had made a sacred promise to me long ago... Or that he often thought of me after I left?

Lucius: Lady Priscilla? Are you all right?

Priscilla: ...Yes. It’s nothing. Please forget about it. But...Lucius?

Lucius: Yes?

Priscilla: You are--how can I say this?--beautiful. Your face is like a woman’s... No... Your face is even more beautiful than that of a woman... ...I’m sure even a few lords must have fallen for you...

Lucius: You...must understand. I am...a man. As a child, I was often teased for my appearance, and I have never once profited from it. Perhaps you meant to imply...otherwise?

Priscilla: ...... I meant nothing. I... You must excuse me...

Lucius: ...Lady Priscilla.
The after-chapter dialogue has a new scene.

Quote:
Hector: “Something in the air“… Are you some sort of hound?

Lyn: Ah! Are you mocking me?

Hector: No, the opposite. I’m in utter admiration. …Say, Eliwood. When I left Ostia, I was attacked by a dark-robed group.

Eliwood: What? Why didn’t you tell me this before?

Hector: Many people hold a grudge against Ostia. I didn’t think it had anything to do with this. Until now…

Eliwood: Hector, do you think…

Hector: They were all wearing very distinct black robes. I don’t know about “something in the air”, but… I’m convinced they were related.

Eliwood: What in the world is happening in Lycia? …Father……
And before I start the next chapter, have some more Support Conversations for the road.

Quote:
Bartre: Oi! Come here, punk!

Canas: W-What is it?

Bartre: What’s with that get-up? Are you another one of those magic types?

Canas: Err, well... I do dabble in the dark arts...

Bartre: Dark arts? What’s that?!

Canas: Ah, well it’s quite interesting, really. You see, there are several types of magic in this cosmos. Monks practice light magic, mages practice anima magic, and we shamans practice elder magic, which some call dark!

Bartre: Nguuoooohhhh!

Canas: W-What’s the matter?!

Bartre: Nnng. Hard words make my head hurt!

Canas: I-I apologize. Did I use... hard words?

Bartre: You callin’ me stupid!?

Canas: No, err, I never meant-- No.

Bartre: Right. Well, that’s all right, then. I’m just going to punch that rock over there until my head feels better...

Canas: Righto. Have fun... I guess…
Quote:
Wil: Lady Lyndis, about that letter...

Lyn: It's OK. Really, you don't have to write one.

Wil: I-I must apologize! I didn't know about your parents... I'm afraid I have been most unforgivably rude!

Lyn: ... ...

Wil: Actually...I ran away from home. Together, with a friend... Five years ago. We had a plan, the two of us. We'd get lucky, make a fortune. Both our families'd live in happiness. That was our dream... But things didn't work out that way, of course. My friend went back home after only a month.

Lyn: ... ...

Wil: I thought I'd never forgive him, you know? How could he do that? He quit halfway... How could he respect himself after that? Of course...I was no better. I wandered for a few years. Finally, I came as far as Bern... But nothing ever changed. I was afraid to tell my parents, afraid they'd find out... After all, I was the one deserving no respect.

Lyn: ...Nothing ever changed? I would think that you realizing your own mistake was a big change.

Wil: Lady Lyndis...

Lyn: It's true, Wil. Sain often told me: "That Wil is such a miser, he'll not loan me one gold." "What's the point in saving all the time? Gold's to be spent!"

Wil: ... ...

Lyn: And Kent, too, he said: "Wil is my best student-- the most attentive by far." "He's driven, that one..." "There's someone he wants to please by becoming a knight, I can tell."

Wil: ... ...

Lyn: Stay in the Knights of Caelin until you've reached your goal. But I think your parents would like to hear that you are safe and well... More than seeing you as a knight years from now... or having you bring them mountains of gold...

Wil: Lady Lyndis... I'll do it. I'll write them a letter tonight.

Lyn: Yes. And Wil... I'm sorry for pushing you.

Wil: Not at all! I feel like I will owe you until my dying day, Lady Lyndis.

Lyn: Remember, a letter isn't enough. You need to go home.

Wil: Yes! I will!
Chapter 19: The Dread Isle

Hector arrives on the shores of Valor with a new companion in his numbers, an enigmatic young girl named Ninian. The majority of the island is covered in dense forest. Legend has it that no one has ever returned from those dark woods. A dense fog crawls over the party, engulfing them one by one…

Cautiously, they move deeper into the trees.

To get the side chapter, I need to beat this map in under 15 turns. As such, I went with the best team possible. Well, almost the best team; instead of Serra, I chose Canas. The strategy for this map is to wait for Fiora to appear, then march to Uhai.

I hope Clownas looks better as a Berserker.

Alright, time to charge.

Egh, the next Support Conversation… for it to make sense, it pretty much has to play immediately after Wil and Rebecca’s B Support and before the two meet Dart. Yet at the same time, I think the overall tone of it works better after the Lyn and Will A Support. That’s why I’ve delayed it until now.

Quote:
Wil: Hey... What are you so mad about? Did I do something?

Rebecca: ......

Wil: I don’t get it...

Rebecca: ...I don’t care if you do! Why don’t you just go to your Lady Lyndis!?

Wil: You can’t let it go, can you? That stuff from when we were little...

Rebecca: Shut up! You don’t know me! I’m no one to you!

Wil: What does that mean?

Rebecca: Wil, I don’t care where you go, just stay away from me! You’re just like my brother! He left and never came back!

Wil: Dan hasn’t come back yet?

Rebecca: No... Why?

Wil: Well, Dan and I left together to make our fortunes, to help our families. Of course, things didn’t go so well... But when we parted at Badon, that was only a few months after leaving the village!

Rebecca: Really? Then my brother...

Wil: ...I’m sorry, Rebecca. I thought Dan had returned to Pherae long ago.

Rebecca: ......

Wil: Rebecca... I’m sorry I left... ...It must have been...hard.

Rebecca: Wil! ...Wil!

Wil: I won’t leave you again... I’ll always stay near... and protect you…

I think Raven and Priscilla are cursed.

It sucks that I can’t really manipulate enemy phase level ups.

Quote:
Bartre: So, it’s you again, magic man.

Canas: Why, hello there!

Bartre: You read a lot of books, huh? What’s that book there?

Canas: Oh, this one? Yes... Well it’s actually... a rather fascinating excursion into cryptopaleontology...

Bartre: Stop!! Say no more!

Canas: Oh, right.

Bartre: That was too close! I don’t care what kind of book it is! But you can kill people with that book, right?

Canas: Ah, no. Actually this is not a dark tome...

Bartre: What? Then what good is it on the battlefield?

Canas: Well, no good at all, I suppose.

Bartre: What?! That makes no sense! Why are you reading it then?

Canas: Why, for the thrill of new knowledge, I guess. Man lives for the joy of new ideas, doesn’t he?

Bartre: Ummm...Uhh. I see. See, like, I try to eat all I can after a battle. And this is, like, the same thing, right?

Canas: Yes, well...perhaps. I suppose.

Bartre: So, that’s...that’s what you do, right? I like you, magic man! I hope you learn everything and stuff!

Canas: Well...I shall try. Err, thank you.

The Wil/Rebecca - Dart Supports work pretty well when you mix them together, but they unfortunately don’t mesh too well with the Wil - Rebecca Supports. This really annoys me for some reason.

Quote:
Dart: So! Who's next? Come on! Attack me!

Wil: Huh?

Dart: Wha--! ...Oh. You're on our side, right? You've got a sort of slack-jawed look about you...

Wil: Dan?! Hey, you're Dan, aren't you? Wow, how have you been? And hey! What are you doing here, anyway?

Dart: What's it to you!? The name's Dart, and I'm a mate in Fargus's pirate crew!

Wil: You're...Dan, right?

Dart: Uhh, no.

Wil: Yes, you are!

Dart: No, I'm not!

Wil: Hmm... Are you sure you're not Dan?

Dart: Will you knock it off?!

Wil: Fine, just say you're not Dan... I can take a hint... It was just an honest mistake, you know! Man...!

Dart: ...... What was that about!? And who did he think he was messing with, anyway? I'd run him through as soon as look at 'im!
Quote:
Rebecca: Brother?

Dart: Huh? Are you talking to me?

Rebecca: Oh, uhh...

Dart: Ah, a case of mistaken identity? Forget it. No bother. Now get lost.

Rebecca: I’m sorry... From behind, you look just like my brother who ran away from home.

Dart: ...What was his name?

Rebecca: Dan... His name was Dan.

Dart: Hmm... Don’t know him.

Rebecca: What is your name?

Dart: I’m Dart! Mate on the Davros, vessel of the feared pirates of Fargus!!

Rebecca: P-Pirates!?

Dart: ...Hey, now that’s the reaction I like to see!! You don’t just go walking up to any man you see and take his arm, missie!

Rebecca: ...Dart…

Goodbye Uhai.

Chapter 19x: Prisoner of Magic

Quote:
Raven: Still under the weather, are you Lucius?

Lucius: No, I’m better now. Sorry to be such a... burden...

Raven: Something you want to say to me, then?

Lucius: Ah! How did you know?

Raven: Just look at your face! It’s about the revenge on Ostia, isn’t it?

Lucius: Y-Yes... Is...is there no way your heart can be changed?

Raven: If I wanted to change how I felt, I wouldn’t be here.

Lucius: The marquess of Cornwell and his wife... They were very important to me... I feel such sadness when I think they are gone...yet still!

Raven: Settling this grudge will not bring them back. Should we bury Hector to spite Ostia, that would just give rise to more hate.

Lucius: If you understand, then why do you proceed? Tell me...why?

Raven: Two summers have passed since the house of Cornwell was destroyed. You tell me to forget the crime that was committed. Have the teachings of the benevolent gods given you the strength to love thine enemy?

Lucius: No... No that’s not it, Lord Raymond!

Raven: I... I have no such strength. And I think we were never more than a temporary family to you. Is that it?

Lucius: Lord Raymond, listen to me! You’re wrong, it’s just that I...

Raven: If you have objections to my actions, you need not to come. Go where you will! Is that what you want?

Lucius: Lord Raymond!
Quote:
Raven: Priscilla.

Priscilla: Yes, Lord Brother?

Raven: You...should return to Etruria. You should not stay here any longer.

Priscilla: What? B-But why?

Raven: ... ...

Priscilla: Please, don’t make me leave! Not after I came all this way to see you again...

Raven: But, there are things I must do. And I don’t want you getting involved!

Priscilla: Lord Brother! You are not planning something dangerous?

Raven: ... ... It’s nothing you need know of.

Priscilla: It is something dangerous! Then, now more than ever, I cannot be made to leave! If you are to face danger, then let me face it by your side!

Raven: You’re not listening, Priscilla. You were sent to Etruria for adoption-- You are no longer of House Cornwell. And...I am no longer your brother.

Priscilla: Lord Brother! How could...Lord Brother!
I actually went and fused the C and B Oswin - Priscilla Supports because they’re clearly a single conversation.

Quote:
Oswin: Lady Priscilla? Pardon my manner, but are you Lady Priscilla of House Cornwell?

Priscilla: And who might you be?

Oswin: Forgive me, milady. I am Oswin, of the Ostian Knights. I fight in this army at the side of Lord Hector.

Priscilla: Pray, how do you know of me?

Oswin: Yes, well... For a time, I was posted with the knights at Cornwell. I saw you many times during my stay. This was some time ago, however.

Priscilla: Is that so? Then you must forgive me.

Oswin: No, m’lady. You were too young to remember... You stood at the marquess’s side, always holding your brother’s sleeve. ...You were the closest of siblings...

Priscilla: Is that so? Yes, I suppose there must have been a time when it was so...

Oswin: Have you heard... about House Cornwell?

Priscilla: Yes. It was accused of stealing funds from the alliance and censured by the council of lords, stripped of its peerage.

Oswin: ...Yes. It is true.

Priscilla: My real family gave me up, and now they have given up their castle. No one knows where they are. I probably shouldn’t be asking you this... But...you seem like a proud and fine knight worthy of my trust, so I must ask you...

Oswin: I am too proud to lie, m’lady. What would you ask?

Priscilla: Are the members of House Cornwell truly...thieves? Swear on your honor! Can there be no mistake?!

Oswin: ...Lady Priscilla. I wish I could refute it...

Priscilla: ......I see. ...Then there must be some...proof.

Priscilla: ...Let me ask another question. Do you know where my father is?

Oswin: ...Yes...I do.

Priscilla: What? Really? Where!?

Oswin: ......

Priscilla: Lord Oswin! Please, I must know!
Quote:
Lucius: Lady Priscilla...

Priscilla: Lucius... What is the matter...? You look so serious...

Lucius: Forgive me. ...Lady Priscilla. You are a noble of House Cornwell. I apologize for my rudeness earlier...

Priscilla: Why should you apologize to me?

Lucius: When we last spoke... I said some things... that I thought may have offended you.

Priscilla: You did...no such thing. Did you come all the way here just to apologize to me?

Lucius: I am in the service of House Cornwell. I should think of you as my liege.

Priscilla: But now I claim House Caerleon. House Cornwell is... no more.

Lucius: ...... Yes... So...you know.

Priscilla: So you tried to spare my feelings by not telling me? And even after the disgrace of Cornwell, you still choose to stay by my brother’s side?

Lucius: Yes...

Priscilla: I can see why you were such an indispensable member of House Cornwell. So...I think you have no need to apologize as a vassal would...

Lucius: Lady Priscilla... Can you please tell me something? Why, when we last met...

Priscilla: Yes, I... Please do not trouble yourself over it. I was merely perturbed by some trivial matter... I mean...you...

Lucius: Yes?

Priscilla: I left House Cornwell when I was only six years old... And how long were you in service to Cornwell?

Lucius: That would be some ten years now. When Cornwell was torn asunder two years ago, Lord Raymond and I joined the Caelin army as soldiers for hire.

Priscilla: Yes... You see? You went to Cornwell after I left. And you have been with my brother ever since... I had only six with him, but you have had more than ten. I am a little... jealous.

Lucius: Ah...Lady Priscilla...?

Priscilla: ...It is nothing. Forget it.
Quote:
Lucius: Lord Raymond...

Raven: Still here, Lucius? I can’t stand loiterers. If you’re not going home, then go march with the rearguard.

Lucius: I have nowhere to go home to... If I did, it would be House Cornwell.

Raven: However, there is no House Cornwell, not anymore. I’ve told you that you may leave whenever you wish many times now.

Lucius: And I have told you many, many times... that you should quit this revenge, Lord Raymond.

Raven: Silence! Must you keep bringing that up?

Lucius: Yes! Let me speak my mind for the last time! Lord Raymond, you are not someone who should dwell on revenge!

Raven: What do you know of it!?

Lucius: I know you better than you know yourself now, Lord Raymond. I have been with you ever since you were small! Always, you say things to jab and jibe at me... But in the end, there is always care in your heart! You haven’t changed as much as you think!

Raven: Lucius, be quiet!

Lucius: I will not! I--will--not! Why do you pretend you are a different person? I will not leave nor will I be quiet until you explain. If I bother you so, then leave me where you may! Ignore me now and forevermore!

Raven: ... ...Fine. Relax...I hear you. Like a child, you are...

Lucius: ... ...

Raven: You’re older than me! Have you forgotten that, too?

Lucius: ...Sorry. I apologize.

Raven: You...scared me there.

Lucius: Huh?

Raven: You’re like... You’re like my last family. Priscilla is... I should not think of that, should I... I was scared to lose the last of my family.

Lucius: ... ... ...I...I didn’t...

Raven: That’s why I wanted to keep you away from the battle. ...But it seems I spoke too harshly. I’m sorry.

Lucius: Lord Raymond...!
There’s a couple of other Supports that would probably play around this time too, but I get the feeling you guys are just sick and tired of them.

For this map, I want to move everyone to Kishuna’s spawn point as fast as possible. Do note that a lot of enemies carry Reaver weapons.

As it turns out, killing Aion is a bad idea on Hector‘s Tale, as it causes Kishuna to immediately flee the next enemy phase. By the way, I had Serra steal his Silver Card to see if I can double the discount.

I’ve arranged things so that if Hector gets a Critical (which he has a pretty good chance of, actually), I win. If he doesn’t, Kishuna will just teleport away.

*saves state and begins RNG abuse*

There we go.

These four Mages have been attacking Merlinus unopposed for two turns now. They still haven’t killed him because Merlinus is pretty damn evasive for a tent.

Now then, if you’re playing on Hector’s Tale, defeated Kishuna in Chapter 19x, and leveled Nils up to at least level 7 during Lyn’s Tale, you’re rewarded with

Chapter 19xx: A Glimpse in Time

All of their battles have led them here. Now, at long last, they’ve finally reached the Dragon’s Gate. Hector gains a brief respite before the decisive battle. Shortly thereafter, he notices something…

Ninian has gone missing.

There! Her pale figure vanishes into the dark woods. Her gait is unsteady, as though she were possessed. Hector quickly gives chase.

This time you guys are voting for Fiora and Dart. Their growths are at the end of the last update.

Never

Take out the Supports and the sense of thrill/suspense I get from the randomized level ups, and I probably wouldn't play Fire Emblem.

Heh, I hadn't seen the Lucius/Priscilla Support before. It actually plays really well into Lucius and Raven's, uh, relationship.

They're like one big happy screwed up family.

(also I don't remember which support was the best but I'm happy Bartre/Canas is being shown)

Oswin: ...Lady Priscilla.

Priscilla: ......

Oswin: ...Forgive me.

Priscilla: ...Why do you apologize?

Oswin: I should never have told you about your parents.

Priscilla: When they were divested of their peerage... my mother and father... took their own lives. You only told me... what I asked to hear. Lord Oswin, you are not to blame.

Oswin: ......

Priscilla: But...I wanted to ask my father one thing. Why...did he...have to steal?

Oswin: My lord, Uther of Ostia, investigated the matter. He...entrusted me...with some details. In recent years, the Cornwell fortune had begun to decline. Marquess Cornwell, in acts of kindness, had assumed the debts of many close to him. When he could not pay his own debts, the wolves came out.

Priscilla: But...if it was a matter of money, why couldn’t they ask my adopted family, the Caerleons?

Oswin: The amount they stole was... far greater than they owed. Your parents did not want to involve the daughter they had sent away.

Priscilla: Father... ...Mo...ther......

Oswin: ......

Priscilla: ...Lord Oswin... ......I... I...will be fine... There is no need to stay at my side... away from your charge...

Oswin: Lord Hector... gave me leave to come. I must express my regret for what our Ostia has done to House Cornwell. The marquess did commit a grave crime. But the vilest sin was the issue of the order... that caused so much grief. If he had stayed alive, perhaps much calamity could have been avoided.

Priscilla: ...No matter what we say, the dead will not return... But as long as I will live, I will remember that you... that Ostia... were honest and just…
Before the chapter starts, a flashback plays. A Shaman runs into the ruins and drops off a girl and a boy.

Quote:

Man: There’s food and water in this pack. …If you ration yourselves, it should last about ten days.

Girl: …What about you, Daddy? Are you going away?

Man: Daddy has to go to Aenir. …I’m going to get Mommy.

Girl: …Mommy? Where is she?

Man: Some bad men took her away. They can’t have gone very far, though. I have to go after them and save Mommy. You wait ten days… If Daddy’s not back by then, take your brother and go to the other side. You’re a clever girl. You know the way, right?

Girl: …Daddy…

Boy: Daddy… Don’t go…

Man: …You’re good children. Both of you. I’ll come for you. I’ll be back…
The man leaves and the children watch him go. With that, the flashback ends.

Quote:
Ninian: ……

Lyn: Ninian? Why are you running? …Is there something here?

Ninian: ……This place… I feel as if I know it. …It’s… very familiar.

Lyn: What?

Ninian walks further into the ruins as everyone else shows up.

Eliwood: Lyndis! Is Ninian well? …What is it?

Lyn: I’m not sure. But she said she knows this place. Could it have something to do with her amnesia?

Hector: Why would she be familiar with anything on the Dread Isle?

Eliwood: It’s a very old building. It must have been abandoned for centuries…

Hector: What about the Dragon’s Gate? We’re way off course now.

Lyn: Ooh! You’re so insensitive! This might restore Ninian’s memory! Try and be a little patient!

Hector: Listen, aren’t we in a bit of a hurry here? While we’re wasting time, your father could be-

Eliwood: It’s okay, Hector. Let’s see what happens.

Hector: He’s too nice for his own good. You agree with me, right, Mark. Hm?

A Druid teleports in.

???: Hello…

Hector: You… Do you live here?

???: No, I’m a simple traveler. I was walking in the woods and became tired. I was resting here. This building… It’s been empty for a long time.

Hector: Really? I think we’ll take a rest here as well. Is that all right?

???: Yes, of course.

Hector: What is this place?

???: It’s a ruin from the Scouring… The residence of a dark sorcerer. I’ve found several ancient tomes here. Fascinating stuff, really. If I can unlock their secrets, I can move closer to the darkness. From what I’ve gathered so far, I must make further reparations.

Eliwood: Reparations?

???: Yes. It’s the fate of those who study dark magic. If you covet the dark, you must enter it of your own free will. You must erase yourself and become an empty vessel. Only then will you be able to receive the dark and master it. If your disposition is weak, the dark will overwhelm you. You will be… lost… …Oftimes, you will forget why you seek the power to begin with. Only a few people ever gain true power. To win such a prize, one’s self is a small and insignificant sacrifice.

Eliwood: ……

???: I’ve heard rumors… Bramimond, one of the eight legends, devoted himself entire to the dark. All emotion, all memory… dissolved in a river of dark. That is how he received the power to best dragons.

Eliwood: …I don’t understand. Why would anyone want power at the cost of his own identity?

???: “I must have it any cost.” I believe every living soul has felt such desire. I know I have. Have you not, Lord Eliwood of Pherae?

Eliwood: What?!?

Hector: You… It was you!?

???: Uhai and Aion’s deaths were convenient… Your exhaustion is even more convenient… I, Teodor, lay claim to the deed of killing the young noble of Pherae. When I’m done, I will examine this building’s treasures at my leisure.

The Druid teleports away, but he leaves a present behind.

Hector: Blast! Those used to this ink will have an advantage…

Lyn: Ninian!! She’s gone!! Do you think they took Ninian?

Eliwood: Let’s go, Hector!

Hector: All right! That scum… No Black Fang must be allowed to live!!

Okay, first things first, don’t bring either flying units or low HP units. There are tons of long range enemies everywhere, and they’re more than happy to kill you. Second off, see that corridor down there? Don’t take it. There’s a Sniper and two Archers down there, and they’re ready to kill you. Finally, those two treasure chests down there? You’re not going to get them. There’s at least four Thieves on this map, and the ones not picking chests are going to be picking your pockets.

Matthew: Hello, Guy. That bump on your head getting any better?

Guy: Grr...

Matthew: You should know better than to try to sneak in when I’m sleeping. You’re really easy to read, you know that?

Guy: I-I won’t lose next time!

Matthew: Hey...Guy. Back in Sacae, you were saying you want to become the strongest knight of all. Is that your dream.. or your goal?

Guy: Huh?

Matthew: If it’s a dream, then be done with it. There are plenty of dreamers with swords. Plenty stronger than you, plenty with more talent... To be the strongest, you have to beat them all.

Guy: I-I know that!

Matthew: What will you do when you hit your wall? That one opponent you’ll never be able to beat?

Guy: ...

Matthew: When you hit that wall that you just can’t get over... That’s when you’ll realize. You’re not special. You’re a bit player, one of the masses.

Guy: ...

Matthew: Most people given up then. They realize they’re not young anymore, they don’t have talent. They think up some excuse why they don’t have to try. That’s how they go on with their lives.

Guy: B-But I’m different! I won’t end up like them! As long as I live, I’ll keep fighting!

Matthew: I see... Then, best of luck, Guy. I’m rooting for you.

Guy: Eh...?

Matthew: You’re to become the best knight in Sacae, right? Then you’d best beat me one of these days. And you’ll have to get stronger to do that.

Guy: Of course! I will!

In a rare display of mercy, all of the Thieves have maxed Speed except for the one that spawns right next to the bottom two treasure chests. I can have Serra steal the Dragon Shield and kill the Thief for the Eclipse.

Speaking of Eclipse, that’s what the boss is equipped with. It’s still laughably inaccurate though, so no worries.

Hello there.

Kent: Sain!

Sain: Ah, Kent!

Kent: Take it easy out there, all right? We're not the only ones fighting here, you know? Feel free to let Lord Eliwood face the enemy now and again.

Sain: But then... How can I show off my grace in battle?

Kent: For whom do you intend to "show off"?

Sain: Why, all of the lovely ladies in our camp, of course! This is the best time to catch their eye, you know. I've got to look good for my admirers!

Kent: You will never change, will you? You should think more of the needs of our whole group, instead of rushing off into the fray like a berserker!

Sain: I'll be fine, Mother! And I'm off!

Kent: Sain, wait! What a bloody fool...
I stall for a turn so Serra can grab the last chest (which held a Talisman), then I seize the throne.

Hector: That about wraps this up. Eliwood? How about over there?

Eliwood: Fine. But…where is Ninian? Has anyone seen her?

Lyn: I found her! She's inside.

Hector: Hm? Why isn't she with you?

Lyn: There's a library filled with ancient books inside. She's been in there, staring at a picture. I can't get her to move.

Eliwood: What kind of picture?

Lyn: A picture of a dragon and a human.

Hector: From the Scouring? We've got a lot of those in Castle Ostia.

Lyn: No, it's not a picture of the actual fighting. It shows a single human and a single dragon. …It's a very eerie picture.

Eliwood: …It must have belonged to the dark sorcerer who used to live here.

Lyn: I wonder what kind of person that magic user was…

Ninian: ……

Eliwood: Ninian! Are you ready?

Ninian: Yes, um… I'm sorry for the trouble…

Lyn: Well? Did you…remember something?

Ninian: There's… No, nothing. I'm sorry……

Eliwood: Don't push yourself. You'll remember soon enough.

Lyn: That's right! Cheer up!

Ninian: Yes…

Hector: Let's get moving! We've been fighting since we got here. If we make it to the Dragon's Gate, we win. We've got to rescue your father!

Eliwood: Right!

Mark, Eliwood, Hector, and Lyn leave, and after stalling for a bit, so does Ninian. A few seconds later, a familiar face teleports in.

Nergal: I was supposed to be at the Dragon's Gate. Why am I here? Ah… Now I remember. I was here a long, long time ago… During the Scouring… I studied dark magic here. This… I left something here. Something valuable… Urrgg… My head… The pain… Bah. It must not be worth much if I never bothered returning for it. I have power now. Nothing else matters. I will open the Dragon's Gate and get even more power… The power to defeat anyone. Power…
Chapter 20: Dragon’s Gate

Following Uhai’s last words, Hector ventures toward the heart of the forest. He is greeted by an extraordinary sight. A building unlike any he’s ever seen. It was clearly not wrought by human hands…

It is waiting… waiting for the masters who abandoned it centuries past. Massive beyond belief, these ancient ruins have nothing to do with humankind.

Hector has arrived. He has found the Dragon’s Gate.

(HP: 60%, Str: 25%, Skl: 45%, Spd: 60%, Lck: 60%, Def: 25%, Res: 25%)

Legault is the same level as Serra, and he beats her in every stat but Strength, Resistance, and Luck. That’s Hard Mode bonuses for you.

Bartre: Hnnh? What’s the matter, magic man? You don’t look so good...

Canas: Yes, well, I am a bit fatigued, actually. You know, scholars are not used to such strenuous activity.

Bartre: Your body turned to mush because you read too much, magic man.

Canas: Yes... I suppose that’s one way of putting it.

Bartre: Well then! I’ll whip you into shape!

Canas: Ah, no! Please. Really, I don’t think--

Bartre: Don’t worry about it! It’s no bother for me! In exchange, you can just lend me one of those books!

Canas: A-A book?

Bartre: Yeah. Maybe... a skinny one.

Canas: ...... Are you...going to...eat it?

Bartre: Are you calling me stupid!?

Canas: No! Nothing of the sort!

Bartre: Warriors must become strong!

Canas: Ah...yes.

Bartre: My body is powerful, but your body has brains. We have different paths, but we both fight bravely. We can help each other along our different paths.

Canas: Why...yes! You’re probably right... Well, it seems I may have much to learn from you. I look forward to it...

Bartre: Nnh. Yeah! But first, wait! Punch me as hard as you can!

In my dreams, Pirate Canas is actually Barbossa, but with a monocle. And it is awesome.
