Oops. In that case, I'm 0k with her promoting into a Bishop; Divine's still a pretty awesome weapon in the right hands.

Hmmph... The problem here is in asking who gets saddled with Thief duty for the rest of the game. If you hold off on changing Chad until after that map, how soon do we need another thief to steal/open chests?

Well, I'll need a Thief for the chapter where Chad is recruited (that's why you get him there), and the chapter directly after Clarine and Rutger, and... pretty much every chapter with a castle, really.

*didn't see what was edited away*

Hmm... I'd personally be tempted to make Clarine the thief, because I -hate- mounted healers. Especially in FE8.

God, she gets on my nerves.

It was a joke about how Lance would have been an excellent Thief, but got turned into a Nomad because he's the same as Kent and Kent was a Nomad so unoriginality blah blah blah.

We're gamers... Since when have we been original? Especially since most originality leads to horrible romhacks.

Edit: Of course, I should point out that this LP is what happens when originality works.

Clarine thief instead? It sounds like she has stats that would pair great with it... (If something else has better speed/luck upgrade caps consider that instead)

All a Thief needs is Speed. Unfortunately, characters with good Speed also tend to be characters I'd actually want to use in battle, and being a Thief runs directly against that.

Since this chapter has some chests to open, I won’t be changing Chad’s class until next chapter.

Anyways, I think this map shows one of the main features of FE6 Hard Mode: large punishments for messing up. As the above image shows, I can do a lot more damage to this enemy than he can do to me. However, he has enough HP to survive a hit, and he can do a nice chunk of damage to me as well. As such, getting unlucky with the RNG is much more likely to force a reset in this game.

Really, I could go on and on about how difficult Hard Mode is, but I doubt I could really convey it. It’s something you have to experience yourself.

Quote:
Alan: Sir Marcus.

Marcus: Alan. What is the matter?

Alan: I need you to teach me something...

Marcus: Teach?

Alan: You said to take my time in battle. Then was my fighting style up until now wrong?

Marcus: No. But you only use the one style of fighting you are used to.

Alan: Just one...

Marcus: Your courage is not a bad thing. Rather, it should be praised. However, I am worried that you might go berserk and go rushing in, leaving Master Roy behind.

Alan: Yes...

Marcus: A true knight must think about what he must do at a given moment and
change his style accordingly. Charging is not always the best way.
Marcus is just bitter I always had him stay in the back.

Quote:
Lance: You are Lott, the mercenary. An axe-fighter, with much endurance.

Lott: You... You're Lance.

Lance: You seemed to have a troubled look on your face.

Lott: Oh... I was just thinking some things over. Actually, this is a perfect chance. Let me ask you something.

Lance: If it is something within my meager knowledge.

Lott: All right, axes are weak against swords. This is just common sense. What I'm wondering about is why it became like that. I just don't get the evidence or physics behind it. That's what I was thinking about.

Lance: I see. Some time earlier, I asked the exact same question as you. I think I've found the answer after I looked through several books on war strategy.

Lott: So is it...the weapon's weight?

Lance: Exactly. Because all weapons are designed bearing in mind that humans will be wielding them, it is almost inevitable that minor flaws and weaknesses would appear.

Lott: So... It's impossible for a weapon to just make you really strong.

Lance: Right. In the past, many kinds of weapons were made, and disappeared. Among them, the sword, axe and spear remained, thus creating what is commonly known as the weapon triangle.

Lott: I see. But wait, what about weapons like the Swordreaver?

Lance: Well, that brings us to a whole different dimension. So...

Lott: ...Ah, I see... Then what about...

Quote:
Ward: So, who's next! ...? Hey! Thany!

Thany: Hey, Ward. What's wrong?

Ward: Don't be scurrying around the front lines so much.

Thany: What!? Scurrying around!?

Ward: It's annoying when some weakling who gets shot down so easily by a puny archer is flying around all over the place!

Thany: Oh, yeah!? Well, it's a pain for me to have some slow axefighter with no brains fighting near me as well! Haven't you ever heard of the concept of dodging?

Ward: What did you say! You pickin' a fight with me!?

Thany: You're the one picking the fight! Well, even if we do fight, there's no way that slow axe of yours is gonna reach me up here.

Ward: Hey... Thany! No fair! Get down here!

Thany: No way! Catch me if you can, slowpoke!

*Thany flies off*

Ward: Goddammit! Why does she always have to mess things up for me!?

Chapter 37: Collapse of the Alliance

I swear to God the RNG was just rebelling against me here. Every single action took at least three resets to get a favorable outcome, even though my odds were consistently over 70%.

Quote:
Wolt: Sir Marcus!

Marcus: Ah, Wolt. What is it?

Wolt: I have something I must ask of you.

Marcus: Something to ask of me?

Wolt: Yes, could you... Please, could you teach me how to use a sword?

Marcus: ! ...May I ask why?

Wolt: I can only use bows. An archer is done for if he gets ambushed in close range. I wouldn't be able to protect Master Roy if that happens...

Marcus: That's not true. There are certain things than can be done only with a bow.

Wolt: But...

Marcus: Besides, is there much point in learning swordplay now, at your late age? Mediocre skill would do nothing but hinder Master Roy.

Wolt: Well...

Marcus: Do not worry. You are being a great help to Master Roy already.

Wolt: ...I wonder…
Considering I had Wil be Wolt’s father, Wolt’s request to learn specifically about swords actually makes some sense.

Chad’s poll was tied, so I started flipping coins again. He ended up getting Pirate.

Lugh is as weak as hell right now, and he can no longer exploit the enemy’s low resistance. This means, much like his mother, Lugh is going to need a lot of babying to become good.

Quote:
Lugh: Sister! I got the medicine and sheets that you asked for.

Ellen: Thank you, could you leave them there please?

Lugh: Yes. Well then, I have to get going.

Ellen: Wait!

Lugh: ? Yes?

Ellen: Are you an assistant to the transporter?

Lugh: No, I'm fighting as well.

Ellen: What? A child like you...in battle?

Lugh: I may be still a kid, but I'm pretty handy with my magic, you know!

Ellen: No, I wasn't doubting your ability... It's just that...children shouldn't be on the battlefield.

Lugh: I'm only 2 years younger than Master Roy, though.

Ellen: Master Roy...well, he has no choice. But that's not the case for you.

Lugh: No, I'm no different. I have a reason to fight, too.

Ellen: But...!

Lugh: Thanks for being concerned about me. But I'll be fine. Oh, I have to go! I'm in the middle of an errand. See you later, Sister!

*Lugh leaves*

Ellen: ......

argh roy can’t talk to clarine

Chad has the same problem as Lugh, but at least he has a weapon that’s pretty much a guaranteed kill. Too bad it’s both inaccurate as hell and too heavy for him.

Over ten resets, and this was the best I could get.

Screw this, I give up trying to actually get a hit with the Halberd.

Quote:
Lugh: Chad! There you are.

Chad: ? Something smells good...

Lugh: Here you go. That's your share.

Chad: Hey, baked tarts! Where'd you get these?

Lugh: The meal delivery man gave me some extra ones.

Chad: ...Man, they look good... I can really have them?

Lugh: Of course.

Chad: Yes! ...Man, these are good!

Lugh: Haha!

Chad: What?

Lugh: Oh, sorry. It's just that you always look really happy when you're eating.

Chad: I do?

Lugh: Yeah. I think that's one of the best things about you.

Chad: W-What the... I'm not gonna give you anything even if you praise me. I-I'll be going now. Thanks for the food!

Lugh: Haha, that's nothing to be embarrassed about.

All three GBA games have at least one recruitable annoyingly obnoxious girl you want to just leave to die but can‘t because they‘re actually really good. In my opinion, Clarine ranks second on the hate list, only being beaten out by FE8’s Lute.

Anyways, I’m just going to ruin that potential and turn her into Thief. Amusingly enough, though, Clarine actually fits the Thief class extremely well. Not only does she have the growths for it and a ponytail,

But she also fits the palette. Ha, look at that pink knife.

Quote:
Marcus: Lance, have you gotten used to the Pherae family yet?

Lance: Yes, Sir Marcus. Everyone has been very good to me, who is an outsider...

Marcus: I see. Good.

Lance: You have been very caring as well, Sir Marcus.

Marcus: Well, we must have you work especially hard.

Lance: Especially?

Marcus: You have something that the other knights do not.

Lance: I do...?

Marcus: Yes. And that will help Master Roy in the future.

Lance: ......

Oh fuck, that’s where he spawns? This is going to suck.

Damn it. *loads state*

Finally.

Lugh, give your sword to someone who can actually use it.

haha what the christ is that (He looks better promoted).

Well, this is going to be a problem.

Or not.

Quote:
Chad: Sister! Wait! Hey wait, please!

Ellen: ...? Me?

Chad: Yeah. Sorry I shouted... But I needed to ask you something.

Ellen: Oh. I will help you if I can.

Chad: Okay, if I'm not wrong, one of these herbs is medicinal, right? You can make a vulnerary out of one of them.

Ellen: Yes, it's this one. I'm surprised that you knew that one of them was medicinal.

Chad: Yeah, Father taught us at the orphanage I used to live in.

Ellen: He's a good man.

Chad: Yeah, he sure is! Well I better go. I have to bring him this herb quickly.

Ellen: Him? Is someone hurt?

Chad: Eh? Yeah, he's a traveler, and he got hit by a stray arrow. It's not a large wound, but the bleeding won't stop.

Ellen: Wait, then my healing staff would work better than the herb. Can you show me to this traveler?

Chad: Really!? You would really help him out!?

Ellen: Yes.

Chad: Gee, thanks! Then let's hurry!
Chapter 38: Fire Emblem

Whoops, I forgot this chapter existed. Oh well, I guess this means you guys get an extra chapter this update.

Quote:
Lance: Master Roy! Are you all right?

Roy: Lance? What's the matter...

Lance: I...couldn't see you, so...

Roy: Oh. Is that all.

Lance: No, that is not all, Master Roy. You are this army's leader. You must watch for your safety more.

Roy: Yeah, you're right. I'll be more careful.

Lance: Are you sure?

Roy: I promise.

Lance: ......

The strategy for this chapter is simple. Split into two groups, and have one go around the mountain and the other charge the gate.

Most of the units at the gate are mostly just going to sit around until the enemy frontline is breached, so having them Support the units doing the breaching is a really good idea.

You know what I really wish I had right now?

That.

Things are getting pretty congested over here too.

Quote:
Lance: Master Roy, if I may suggest something.

Roy: What is it?

Lance: How about if you stay out of the front lines for a while?

Roy: ?

Lance: Then you can command the army from a safe location.

Roy: Well...

Lance: I know what you are thinking, but please understand. An army's leader is crucial. If the leader is lost, so is the battle.

Roy: That's true...

Lance: Then...

Roy: But I don't think anyone would listen to me if I only keep myself safe and start telling people what to do.

Lance: That's not true!

Roy: I'm not particularly smart, and I don't have much charisma, either. So I have to gain trust by experiencing the pain that everyone else is...

Lance: Master Roy...

Roy: Perhaps I'm not meant to be a leader. Perhaps it's just how I am.

Damn it Dieck, why is it so hard to get you a level up that doesn’t suck?

Quote:
Clarine: Oh! We certainly do meet a lot.

Rutgar: ...You again?

Clarine: My name is not 'you.' I am Clarine.

Rutgar: ......

Clarine: I have always wanted to tell you something.

Rutgar: ?

Clarine: It is about how you look.

Rutgar: ??

Clarine: You actually do have quite an attractive face. Of course, it would come nowhere near my beloved brother Klein, but you are quite impressive for a commoner.

Rutgar: ......

Clarine: Therefore, I can use my advanced Etrurian aesthetic sense and make you into a truly handsome gentleman...

*Rutgar leaves*

Clarine: Oh? Wait! Where did he go? I was not finished speaking to him! So he is just a tramp after all!

The Gant Lance, Al Sword, and Tina Staff are all a reference to this really terrible FE6 manga starring this complete Gary Stu who was Roy’s equal and secretly the son of Hartmut or something like that.

At this point I was temporarily stuck in a rather annoying deadlock. See, the next twelve or so random numbers were complete shit. So instead of just playing the game, I had to repeatedly reload the game to mess around with RNs.

Lot: Ward, you seem to be doing well today.

Ward: Of course! I'm always doing great. You better do well, too, you know. You gotta make money to buy medicine for your mom...

Lot: ...That's all right, now.

Ward: Huh? What do you mean?

Lot: Mom, she... She didn't make it.

Ward: What!? Why didn't you tell me!?

Lot: If I told you, you'd be yelling at me to go home to Myu, right?

Ward: What do you think?! Myu's all alone now! Don't you care about your own sister?!

Lot: But that was during a job. I couldn't pass it up.

Ward: ...Lot?

Lot: What?

Ward: You're more stupid than I thought.

Lot: ...Maybe so.

I actually forgot about the boss while I was turboing through the enemy phase, so I didn’t catch the finishing (critical) hit, but I did get Roy‘s amazing enemy phase level up.

Chapter 39: Traps

(HP: 60%, Str: 40%, Skl: 45%, Spd: 45%, Lck: 15%, Def: 15%, Res: 50%)

I used to think that Saul was Sain’s kid, but then I realized he was too old.

(HP: 85%, Str: 50%, Skl: 45%, Spd: 45%, Lck: 35%, Def: 15%, Res: 25%)

I have never used Dorothy ever so I can’t comment on her.

(HP: 55%, Str: 30%, Skl: 55%, Spd: 65%, Lck: 50%, Def: 10%, Res: 15%)

Sue is the second of Roy’s wives, so she’s guaranteed a spot on the final team.

Oh, and in case you missed it: the mounted-to-unmounted ban is no longer in effect. They’re almost always going to look kind of screwed up anyways, no sense trying to avoid it.

Quote:
Lance: Knight to F6.

Lott: Armor Knight to E3.

Lance: Pegasus to D1.

Lott: Er... Archer to B1.

Lance: Swordmaster to F1. Check.

Lott: ...... ...You win.

Lance: So it seems.

Lott: ...Do you think the mistake was when I moved that ballista six turns ago?

Lance: Yes, I think so. Where did you learn how to play? I learned it as one of the requirements of a knight.

Lott: There was an old war veteran living where I come from. He taught me. I couldn't find anyone to play with in the mercenary groups. But up against those who can play, it looks like I don't stand a chance.

Lance: Well, if you can point out your mistakes, that shows you have skill. I played with Alan the other day, but it was over in two turns.

...How the hell can you hate Lute? She's a little smug, but in a good way (which is something I do not say lightly, as a hater of smug and pretentious people everywhere).

L'Archeal is clearly that game's resident bitch. I make a point of never using her though, because I already have two healers to train by that point.

EDIT: Oh, and because she can't become a Bishop like the other two can. Mmm, Slayer...

My problem with Lute is that she doesn't have a good reason for being such a smug bitch. Serra and Clarine were pretty bad, but the former had a terrible childhood and the latter was heavily spoiled. More importantly, in their Supports they prove to be decent people. Lute, on the other hand, has no reason other than "oh hey I'm just so good" and all of her supports do nothing to change her.

Meanwhile, L'Arachel is just hilarious. She and Dozla are basically saturday morning cartoon heroes, and her supports are just full of laughs. My favorite are the Joshua-L'Arachel and the Innes-L'Arachel Supports; in the former, Joshua tries to scam L'Arachel but repeatedly loses in coin flips despite the fact he's using a rigged coin. In the latter, Innes and L'Arachel basically have a fight over whether Frelia or Rausten is better.

Lute really isn't that bad in my eyes... I think it's how cute her support with Artur is that really makes me see her that way. I will admit, I thought she was annoying on the first playthrough when I came across her, but she grew on me.

L'Archeal however... She's not the least bit funny. She's deluded, loud and annoying. Not to mention the suffering she inflicts on Rennac!

EDIT: While this isn't the best place for such an argument... I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions for what to turn the next three characters into.

There doesn't really have to be any logic in what you choose. I mean, it's nice to have classes that fit the growths, but if you want me to have a Dawn Brigade I'll try and make do.

Haha... Sorry, but my brain just does not work that way. I simply can't handle making a 'bad' decision, missing treasures or stuff like that.

Incidentally, I don't think there's any website I'm more thankful for than GameFAQs.

Except... she's not a smug bitch. The only characters that she's really mean to are Knoll (which is just slapstick - see also: Canas and Vaida) and Ross (who deserves it for being kind of a dick) - everyone else she's fairly polite to and acts in a friendly, albeit weird, manner. She approaches Vanessa to learn more about her pegasus, and the two trade lore about the animal. She helps Kyle with his training and praises him for his fighting skill halfway into the support. Her support with Artur has him recounting her years of arduous study (which, between that and her near-encyclopedic knowledge, strikes me as the title of prodigy being something she earned) and lamenting her tendency to play pranks on him. She's friendly to those that treat her with respect, she's goofy, she's curious about the world around her and genuinely likes learning new things... what's not to like?

I guess you could argue the smug part, but she's not like Clarine, who's a classist, arrogant shrew right to the core. She's just... weird, in an adorable sort of way. Boiling down Lute's personality to just "smug bitch" is a really disingenuous way of describing her considering that her curiosity and goofiness are every bit defining as traits. The fact that she likes announcing herself as a prodigy is besides the point, as more often than not she uses it as a way of introducing herself instead of putting down others with it.

(Even then, she has a reason to be smug because she just is that good. Starting at Lv. 1 with 6 Mag and 7 Spd with a 65% and 45% growth in both stats respectively means that she comes out swinging when she joins.)

Anyway, voting time:

Saul: Fighter. Not because he's terrible like Wade or Lot (on the contrary, he's quite good) but because decent Fighters are hella rare; Bartre and Boyd are the only two good ones I can think of. Besides, Axe users rock in this game because of all the dang wyverns.

Dorothy: Can go into any class, really. She's kind of... plain. :\ She's got good stats though - as far as archers go, she's pretty much the best in the game.

Sue: Is terrible, but if we have to use her... ehh. Make her a Peg Knight, I guess? At least that should make things weird when we decide on whether to head to Ilia or Sacae.

We're going to both Ilia and Sacae. FE6 has a chapter select code, and I know how it works.

(Yes, this means I'm going to do both branches of the Western Isles. This also means I'm going to get two Niimes, but I have something special in mind for that.)

This sounds awesome.

(Will a character only have to have one support in order to get bonuses with both duplicates? Also will the two duplicates level up together or individually?)

They're treated as two entirely different units. No Support abuse here.

It's not like it matters; I'm ripping off FE9.

Saul- Monk, just because you...er, I dunno how much Dark magic the enemies actually use, but it'd be nice to have someone who can use Lightning before promotion just the same

Dorothy- Cavalier, I need someone to be that class, dammit! Also she's kinda generic looking (if this was FE11, she'd be pretty uninteresting, but thankfully supports make her...eh, more interesting)

Sue- Pegasus Knight, it'll be swank

There are no Monks in FE6. Only promoted units can use Light magic.

I mean, I could just hack Saul to be able to use Light magic anyways, but there's really no point to anyways.

Oh wait, I have an idea.

Saul: Manakete. Let's fight fire with fire.

The Fire Dragon one or the Divine Dragon one?

Because let me tell you, I am not changing Saul into a little girl. That is just wrong in so many ways.

Fire, of course. Not Divine, because:

Also: I'm saving that class for Lilina.

You know, I never did bother with supports - mostly because I didn't know they existed (more specifically, how to make them happen) until after I finished Sacred Stones. But after reading some of the ones here, I just stopped because they were so interesting, and I want to find them out for myself! Especially the ones Pappy linked for Lute, who is one of my favoritest characters.

Also this is totally worth it's own thread.
